Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has taken pictures of the gas explosion that claimed 20 lives in the state to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), in Abuja.

The governor made this known in a tweet on Monday.

Before meeting with Buhari, Sanwo-Olu had on Monday set up a N2 billion Emergency Relief Fund to assist victims of the explosion, urging members of the public to donate.

He also announced the establishment of the “Abule Ado Emergency Relief Fund” after visiting the scene of the explosion

A painter, Paul Iwapele, has been arrested by members of a vigilante group for allegedly defiling his three-year-old stepdaughter in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

News gathered that the victim’s mother, identified only as Kemi, came from Benin Republic to Lagos some years ago.
Kemi was said to have been impregnated by a man, who died a few months into their relationship.

The woman was said to have met Iwapele, who promised to take care of her and the pregnancy, which was four months old at the time.
Kemi later gave birth to the child while living with the Ondo State indigene.
It was gathered that Iwapele, however, defiled the three-year-old.

Kemi, who spoke to the reporters on Sunday, demanded justice for her daughter.

The 35-year-old said she became suspicious after observing her child touch Iwapele in a strange way, adding that she later discovered that he had been sleeping with her.
The Beninoise said the suspect, when confronted, denied the allegation.

She said, “I was bathing my daughter when she started telling Iwapele to look at her private parts. I became curious and asked why she would be making such statements to him. She even went ahead to touch him in his private parts and told me that Iwapele usually put his hands in her private parts as well.

. “She usually complained of pain when I bathed her and when I checked her private parts, I discovered that they had peeled. She was also running a temperature; she complained of stomach ache and her stomach was swollen.
“When I took her to a hospital, I was told that she would undergo an operation, but I refused to go back because I was scared. I went to meet my pastor and he told me that someone had been sexually molesting my daughter.

“I don’t go out; I am always indoor. So, I don’t know how someone would do such a thing without my knowledge. I asked him, but he denied until we went to a Muslim cleric’s place, where he was challenged until he confessed to the crime.

Iwapele, confessed to the crime, saying since January 2020, he had had carnal knowledge of the victim four times.

Pandemonium and anxiety enveloped Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, as strange fire erupted in the house of former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Wednesday night.

The house located at Ita-Eko area of Abeokuta was gutted by fire about 9:30pm believed to have been triggered by a power surge.

Residents of the area and sympathizers who trooped out to the scene joined Obasanjo’s domestic workers in the house in frantic battle to put out the fire.

It took nearly an hour to quench the inferno which spread from one end to another following the harmattan breeze.

The state Director of Fire Service, Fatai Adefala, confirmed the incident but disclosed that the fire affected a store and not the main building in the former president’s compound.

He said officials of the agency swiftly responded to distress calls over the fire about 10:00pm and succeeded in putting it out.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has vowed to apprehend the promoter of a report in the social media, claiming its Port Harcourt holding facility is overcrowded and alleging mistreatment of detainees.

Head of the Port Harcourt Zonal office, Usman Imam speaking at a media briefing today, February 12, 2020, dismissed the report as fake news.

According to him, "the picture of detainees crammed into an open air cell purported to belong to the EFCC Zonal office in Port Harcourt is fake. The images are strange to us".

He further stated that the Commission, "do not have an open cell, our cell is a stand-alone facility with no close proximity to any storey building; we have never had large inmates that the cell could not accommodate, and we have no history of mistreatment of detainees".

He noted that suspects being tried by the Commission prefer to be remanded in EFCC custody. "If the Commission had been abusing the rights of detainees, they would not prefer its facility to prison", he added.

The Zonal Head described the tweet by @ TheRealDayne as a mischievous fabrication intended to mislead the public and ridicule the Commission. He vowed that the culprit would be tracked, arrested and prosecuted.

He however assured that the mischief will not deter the Commission "from the vigorous pursuit of our mandate to fight economic and financial crimes. Under my watch, there shall be no hiding place for criminals in the zone, be they illegal oil bunkerers or cyber criminals".

Imam who conducted the journalists round the Cell and Medical Centre of the zonal office, implored them to reflect the reality in their reports. "This is the reason I have invited you to see things for yourselves, to enable you inform the public about the true situation", he said

A lady, identified as Francisca Fajenbola, on Friday 7th February, 2020, allegedly suffered violence for the umpteenth time in the hands of her brother, Pastor Edmund Peace Emmanuel, and his wife, Blessing, over their late father’s property in Lagos.

Pastor #Edmund who is the Pastor-in-charge of Rulers Life Bible Ministry, was said to have attempted to evict the single mom and her son from their father’s house at ‪No. 58, Apana Street‬, Ejigbo.

The attempt was, however, staunchly resisted by Francisca, prompting Mr. Emmanuel to call on his wife to assist him. It was gathered that Blessing took the victim’s son away from her while her husband assaulted her.

“It was her scream for help that made the neighbors rush to her aid,” an eyewitness said. The neighbors quickly rushed Francisca to the hospital as she was losing blood.

The case was subsequently reported to the police but no arrest has been made. According to the eyewitness, the victim has nowhere else to go except her late father’s property, since she is a single mom who is also experiencing financial difficulties.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Port Harcourt Zonal Office, has arrested seven suspected internet fraudsters.

They are, Kufre Miller Okoh, Joshua Tom, Emmanuel Ekpuk Anderson, Pascal Alisiri, Chimeze Umungalaen, Clinton Alisiobi and Joshua Onuigbo.

The trio of Kufre Miller Okoh, Joshua Tom and Emmanuel Ekpuk Anderson were picked up by operatives of the Commission on Tuesday, February 4 in an early morning raid on their hide out, No 52/53 Azungu Street, Rumuigbo, Port Harcourt.

The quartet of Pascal Alisiri, Chimeze Umungalaen, Clinton Alisiobi and Joshua Onuigbo were arrested at Intercontinental Hotel, Umuahia, Abia State on February 3, 2020.
