They were reportedly caught red-handed moving the documents out of the commission’s headquarters in Port Harcout, Rivers State capital.

According to the source, two employees of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) were at the weekend arrested by the police for allegedly stealing sensitive documents belonging to the commission.

It was gathered the two suspects were apprehended by the Executive Director, Finance and Administration and the Executive Director, Project.

The two suspects, whose identities were still kept under wraps, were reportedly taken to the Police Station at Olu Obasanjo for further investigations and prosecution.

A source from the commission, who spoke in confidence, said one of them came from the Delta State’s office of the commission while the second employee worked at the commission’s headquarters.

The source said: “The two directors made a surprise visit to the commission’s headquarters on Saturday. They met some employees and demanded to know what they were doing at the office. They got satisfactory answers from them.

“They headed for the third floor of the headquarters and saw two employees coming out of the building and demanded to know their mission. But they could not explain what they were doing at the building.

“One of the directors opted to search their bag and discovered many sensitive documents belonging to the commission. One of the employees came from our Delta State office while the other one works in the head office. They were immediately handed over to the police”.

He said the suspects worked at the Human Resources Department of the commission.

A visit to the Olu Obasanjo Police station showed that the suspects were undergoing investigation.

Some principal officers of the commission were also seen leaving the police premises.

When contacted, the commission’s Director, Corporate Communication, Charles Odili, confirmed the development but said further details would be made a available to the public soon.

There have been barrage of attacks on the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the commission by powerful individuals said to be against the ongoing forensic audit of the commission.

The Abia state police command has confirmed the arrest of a middle-aged man identified as Chinedu Omeonu who killed his cousin, Solomon Monday Orji, in Mgboko Umuoria community in Obingwa Local Government area of Abia State.

It was gathered that one of the Orji's sons had gone into the compound of his uncle Chinedu Omeonu to pick some fallen mango fruits.

Omeonu allegedly pounced on Orji’s son and flogged the little boy mercilessly to the extent he fainted.

Orji was said to have rushed to his cousin’s house to inquire why he flogged his son to a state of unconsciousness.

The suspect who got infuriated after being confronted by Orji over the act, attacked his cousin with a cultlass as he was about leaving. Orji died at the scene after Omeonu inflicted machete cuts on him.

Omeonu was subsequently beaten to a pulp by youths of the community before being handed over to the police.

A massive fire broke out at a residential tower in Al Nahda , Sharjah on Tuesday night.

According to reports, the fire broke out on the 10th floor of the Abbco Tower at 9.04pm.

Nine people sustained minor injuries and were being treated on-site, Col. Sami Khamis Al Naqbi, Director of Sharjah Civil Defence told Gulf News, adding that the quick response by Sharjah Civil Defence teams averted a major disaster.

The police used a drone to check if there were people trapped inside the 48-storey building, said Colonel Dr. Ali Abu Al Zoud, Deputy Director General of Central Operations of Sharjah Police.

Col Dr Al Zoud told Gulf News: “We have contacted the building owner and alternate accommodation will be provided to all residents. It is still not clear how many apartments have been affected."

Residents of the nearby buildings were immediately evacuated for their safety.

One told Gulf News that the fire is believed to have started on the 10th floor. “It was a small fire to begin with and we came out of the building as soon as we saw it,” said one resident.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

The tower, constructed in 2006, has 45 floors, including parking, out of which 36 are residential floors. Each floor has 12 flats.

28yr old Godday Robinson (pictired above), has been arrested by men of the Ogun state police command for allegedly rape, stealing and attempted murder of a 17 yr old girl (name withheld) who hitherto refused his love advances.

A statement by the spokesperson of the state command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, says the suspect was arrested following a report received by the policemen attached to Agbara area command that a young lady was lying unconscious in a ten feet deep pit in a nearby bush. Upon the report received from the good Samaritan, the area Commander Agbara detailed his men to the scene where the young lady was rescued with the help of members of the public and she was quickly taken to an hospital.

After she regained consciousness, the victim told the police that on April 22nd while she was coming from night duty which she performed in the company where she works, the suspect who has been making advances to her before, accosted her, capitalized on the isolated nature of the area and dragged her into the bush where he forcefully raped her, dispossessed her of her Galaxy Samsung phone valued at #85,000and then strangled her until she passed out momentarily.

Godday who thought that she had died, dragged her further into the bush and dumped her into the pit . Thankfully, she regained conciousness and was able to call for help.

On the strength of her explanation, the area Commander ACP Bolanle Muritala gave a matching order to his detectives that the suspect must be traced and apprehended. The detectives swung to action immediately, traced the suspect and got him arrested on the 24th of April 2020

When interrogated, Godday confessed to committing the crime but blamed it on the devil.
