Three suspected ritualists, including a native doctor and a couple, were caught on Tuesday night, June 16, while allegedly performing some fetish rituals. According to a source, the incident happened at Carwash Mobile Police Barracks in Egbeda, Lagos State. The trio were caught with a bucket of water and was said to have been performing money rituals at about 11pm when they were caught. “The Babalawo claimed the lady is possessed with an evil spirit and that they were doing spiritual cleansing for her. But when asked, the lady said they were actually performing a money ritual. Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested a 32-year old Boniface Oburuku for theft of a hand bag, belonging to an international guest from the Republic of Mauritius, The bag contained her two Samsung mobile phones, an international passport, United States Dollars, Nigerian and Mauritian currencies. 2. Oburuku committed the crime on June 11, 2019 at an event organised by the EFCC to mark the year’s National Democracy Day and Anti-Corruption Summit at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja. which had in attendance, President Muhammadu Buhari, Nigerian security chiefs, respected citizens and global leaders. 3. For over one year, the suspect has been on the Commission’s watch list and was eventually arrested in Lagos few days ago. 4. There was mild commotion this morning at Ojota, Lagos, as a lady plunged down the pedestrian bridge in an apparent attempt to commit suicide. According to Priscimedia, the initial attempts by passersby to stop her from jumping proved abortive as she freed herself from the grip of a man holding her back. It was gathered that the Lagos Neighbourhood officers later helped her to a safe place to avoid been hit by oncoming vehicles. A Nigerian man identified as Oyinkro Miebode is currently writhing in pain after his wife, Maureen, allegedly poured hot water on him while he was asleep in their home in Yenogoa, the Bayelsa state capital on June 3. Facebook user, Kelvin Ingbaifegha, who shared the story online, said the couple had a quarrel and Oyinkro slapped his wife and asked her to shut up. Little did he know she was plotting her revenge. She allegedly waited for him to sleep and then poured boiling water on him and fled their home. Kelvin wrote "They had a quarrel in the morning of June 3rd over issues, while quarrelling he got angry, slapped her and told her to shut up, which she did, thinking the quarrel was over. After everything he left and went to sleep, later she went to his sister asking if there was kerosene in the stove, the sister said no kerosene, she went out bought kerosene and fill in the Stove, the sister said they taught it was for bathing or garri, which they even notified her when the water was boiling. With the water boiled, she poured it into a small basin and went to his room while he was sleeping then poured it on Oyinkro Miebode. Waking up from that shock he was shouting in pains and scratching his body not knowing he was peeling his own skin. They said I should not call anybody nor use my phone. A few minutes later, a call from my office came in. I picked the call but my phone was snatched from me. Nigerian, identified as David, has narrated his ordeal in the hands of the police during one of their raids in Lagos. David, who recounted his experience on Twitter, said the police were unprofessional in their conduct. He said he was arrested by the operatives of the "Anti Cultism Unit" when he went to cut his hair. The policemen, he said, took him to their unit in Gbagada. David said he spent the night and was bailed the next day by some of his friends with N10,000. David revealed that the officers arrested some other Nigerians from different parts of the state who have a similar tale of human rights abuses to share. He said “I left my house around past 6 pm yesterday to get plastic buckets for a friend because he just moved into a new apartment around Gbagada. On returning, I visited a salon to have my haircut around past 7 pm. I was done with my hair by quarter to 8 pm then paid and left. I got across the road to take the tricycle from the salon to where I stay. “Suddenly, I saw four men in black, boldly written on their shirt "Anti Cultism Unit" with guns. Then one of them grabbed me from the waist; he said I should get into the bus. I asked why and he said that I should get inside. “I obeyed and entered (before I start receiving slaps). Then I was searched. They said I should give them my phone. I refused and said that it was private. They said I should not call anybody nor use my phone. A few minutes later, a call from my office came in. I picked the call but my phone was snatched from me." David further recounted his experience at their unit in Gbagada. He said, “I saw a lot of people. I overheard some saying they picked them from Ikorodu, Onipanu, Mushin, Oshodi, Bariga & Ketu etc. “One of the girls said she had been there for two days now because she didn't agree to sleep with one of the policemen. We were treated as criminals; they took us to the passage of the cell, told us to sit on the floor, while more people were brought in. A 17-year-old wife accused of killing her husband as he tried to have sex with her in Bauchi has said she had no idea sex is a marital obligation, so she thought her husband was trying to defile her. Salma Hassan, a resident of Itas-Gadau, was paraded at the Bauchi Police Command on Tuesday, May 19, for stabbing her husband to death 11 days after their wedding. She told journalists that when her husband approached her for sex that night, she thought what he was doing was wrong, so she objected. However, her husband beat her and tried to force himself on her. She said she then picked a knife to scare him but mistakenly stabbed him with it. She said: "We were married. We loved each other. “I never knew that sex is a marital obligation. On that fateful night when he approached me for sex, I refused him because I have never been involved in it. I thought he wanted to defile me. "He later got angry and was trying to force himself on me with slaps and beating, then I picked up a knife to scare him away but he kept coming. I didn’t know when I stabbed him with the knife in his chest. “I have already given my statement. I'm in great suffering. I'm in great bitterness. I don’t know what will happen to me now. But I wouldn’t have done what I did if I knew better." According to a Police statement, a knife was recovered when they arrested Salma for culpable homicide at her home in Itas-Gadau. “On the 24/04/2020 at about 0900hrs, one Haruna Musa ‘m’ of Itas-Gadau reported at Itas-Gadau Division, that one Salma Hassan ‘f’ 18yrs of the same address stabbed her husband, one Mohammed Mustapha on the chest. As a result, he sustained serious injury and was rushed to General hospital Itas–Gadau for treatment where he was certified dead. The suspect was arrested and has confessed to the crime. Tottenham Hotspur superstar Heung-min Son has returned to training after completing his military service in South Korea, where he was among the most impressive performers. State's police command for not shielding the policeman, said they are working hard to ensure that the former security operative who is in his 30s is prosecuted. Onyekachi said; “One police officer has been sacked after undergoing an orderly room trial and we are also moving for his court trial but he has gone through police orderly room trial; police internal disciplinary action which led to his dismissal. We are now moving for his trial in the court. He was accused of defiling a minor, the child is about 14 years while the policeman is in his early 30s. “We are grateful to the state commissioner of police who has been very helpful to us. He understands what humanity is all about. Once a petition from the National Human Rights Commission is sent to him, the following morning, we will get a call that it has been assigned. "He usually tells us to deal with him directly, that he doesn’t want the image of the police to be dented. So, he has helped us in so many ways. In 2019, we handled like 45 cases and 12 cases this year. "Four of the 2019 cases had to do with Gender-Based Sexual Violence and these are all minors. Pitiably, a man molested a three-year- old girl. The issue of violating minors is on the increase but under-reported. "The only time the cases are reported is when there is an underlying conflict among the families involved. “Domestic violence is on the increase even though under-reported. Under-reporting is the problem we are having on this issue of domestic violence. "If you see the culture of Igbo land; the culture changes because of the influence of external cultures too. What happens here is that most families are not literate, our culture has not been given the necessary push or change it deserves to really give us the good result that we need. In that aspect, there is a low percentage of reporting cases of violence because of the culture; it is actually considered normal for a woman to be beaten by her husband. "When it is so, a woman is indoctrinated to believe it that way. Women should know that they are human beings and being a human being, nobody has a right to infringe upon your own rights because the person’s rights start where your own start. The Rwandan government has taken delivery of 5 humanoid robots which can screen and deliver foods and drugs to those suffering from Coronavirus. BBC reported that the country’s health minister, Daniel Ngamije made the announcement on Tuesday May 19. He also disclosed that the robots were brought in to reduce the exposure of health workers to COVID-19 patients. Ngamije said; "We need additional robots for other duties like disinfection in public space and we are working to get them."The 5 robots which were named Akazuba, Ikizere, Mwiza, Ngabo and Urumuri, are manufactured by a Belgium-based company. Rwanda's health ministry says the units have a number of abilities, including: Screening 50 to 150 people per minute Recording and storing patient data Alerting health workers to abnormalities Warning people who aren't wearing marks, or are wearing them improperly There are two Coronavirus treatment facilities in Rwanda, one is on the outskirts of the capital Kigali and the other in the south-eastern town of Nyamata. The country has so far recorded 308 confirmed cases of Coronavirus, 203 recoveries and no deaths.
