Car TalkRe: Can I Get Cars With Drive-by-wire systems In Nigeria? by nairaimporter(op):
Zoharariel:
Is someone trying to give Boko-Haram new initiatives on how to carry out their bombings effectively? grin

Imagine a Toyota vehicle modified to drive-by-wire system, laden with kilos of C4 & rammed into the CBN edifice in Abuja or the Police HQ. grin
No, self driving cars are the future. Like most new innovations, they have both their bad sides and good sides.

As far as i know, fear of terrorism has never stopped researchers from innovation. Proper regulation stops new innovation from being destructive.

There are several economic and social benefits self driving cars will provide
1. They will make car ownership accessible and usable to larger members of the public like aged, minors, disabled individuals etc.
2. They will free up human time so that our precious time and attention is not spent on the road rather doing the things we truly love doing.
3. In the future buying a car will be as easy as buying an I-phone or a samsung galaxy. Just walk into a shop and walk out with a car several times intelligent in driving than humans.
4. Professions like mining, business like logistics etc. Think, if all of Dangote's cement trucks were self driving? For the company, that would be economical and safer than having humans drive those gigantic trailers.
5. For example if the Lagos BRT system was fully automated how cool/safe will that be?
There are several other possibilities. What other ways can you think of that self driving cars will help you?

Thanks for your contribution

I recommend Toyota Hybrid cars (for drive by wire throttle, brake and "partial drive by wire steering"wink . Try the prius or camry hybrid for your experiment.

For a very simple and non sophisticated drive by wire system, yes, you can find someone in Nigeria.
Thank you very much, i already know about the Toyota prius. Google's very own self driving cars first used the toyota prius about five years ago.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_self-driving_car#Technology
But now they manufacture their own cars. Some of the Prius models i found are electric(they use batteries). I am looking for a gasoline/diesel car. Maybe there is a gasoline model?

And yes i am going to make a self driving car that's better than google's and everyone else. I believe in the future when cars drive themselves, "driving" will be a skill that we will forget.

I have a limited budget for this research so i don't want to make a mistake with the car model i chose.

Thanks for replying, pls could you recommend auto repair shops in Nigeria that can convert mechanical cars to drive-by-wire?

Just like Nigeria the country you want to go from lantern and candles to nuclear power, why not get the gas generator to work first?

Why not just get a new luxury car and you have it automatically
Thanks for taking time to answer.

Yes if i'll have to buy a new luxury car. Only new cars have these ECUs

I am a researcher in need of cars that can be automated with a computer. i.e a computer can be used to control steering, throttle and brake.

I know that a mechanical car can be converted to a fully drive-by-wire system, in-fact examples abound the internet.

Full drive-by-wire is described below:
The three main drive-by-wire technologies are referred to as:

Brake-By-Wire
Electronic Throttle Control
Steer-By-Wire

1. Can i find competent engineers to convert a normal car to full drive-by-wire car in Nigeria? Please if you know one please recommend.

2. If no 1 above is not possible, are there dealers of drive-by-wire cars?

3. Does anyone knows any partially or fully automated car models currently on sale.

Please help if you can.

P.S this website claims to do conversion http://torcrobotics.com/solutions/

how can the Benin man be telling a lie when the First king to be call Obasanjo in Benin lived like 500 years or more ago and the Yorubas recently start using the word. It may also interest you to know that the very first Ogiso is Oba-godo. O ba means to shine. Omo N'oba N' edo is the full title which can be translated as ' the child that shines for Edo'. Cc
Omo oba ni edo means the son of the king that now resides in edo.

Oduduwa had 7 sons, one of them went to bini to become king.

We keep making mistakes by not learning from the past!

The number 1 sign of an imminent economic disaster in a country is a currency crisis!

Humans will always be humans, we've seen this before but now that we see this again, we wish it isn't true.

From my experience following this thread, I know that when I see a post in which the person gleefully asks other people to sell their oando/fcmb/and all the nonsense insurance stocks so that they can buy it because they know that the stock price will appreciate or their "company" wants to acquire more percentage of the stock...........

I know that
1. the person dosent know what he/she is saying

2. The said stock will continue to fall into the abyss

3. Don't ever listen to them

P.S pls make sure to offload said stock

This was how the PDP told us that Yaradua was hale and hearty, even after various reputable sources had claimed otherwise. I can still remember September 17, 2008 like if it was yesterday. After a heated board room meeting by the ChannelsTV board members on if to report the news or not. We eventually decided to report it, because we felt the people had a right to know. But after reporting it. Men of the SS stormed our office and treated us like terrorists. Eventually, we were vindicated. But in this case, I hope the APC candidate is hale and hearty.
I just had this feeling you were the Maupe from Channels TV

Hello seun, I have something that has an accuracy of higher than 90 percent. And I want to submit.

Do I still have to make my submission public or can I send my files directly to you.

I prefer the later.

pls reply. You've gone absent.

Seun is there any time frame for this competition? Or is it until someone meets up to 90% accuracy?

Can I make another submission? I guess I should be able to.

90% is feasible. I think.

Yesterday I decided to try my hand on this project. knowing that I am a beginner programmer, I am more interested on what I will learn. I did some research and read some few papers on this topic.

I decided to make a rough trial demo of 3rd Party Libraries I found. My intended language was Java.

I first wrote a desktop application using a Java library called Recognito. The link is here if you want to read more about the library.

I will say that it is a good java library for Text Independent Speaker Recognition in Java. I integrated it to my application and checked the usefulness

The NetBean Java application is attached below. I obtained the following results in four different Buhari speeches

https://inducesmile.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/bexample.jpg

The first two results show the positive matching result of different audio speeches from President Buhari.

The third result was 100 % positive when you match the same audio speeches from Buhari.

Finally, the fourth result is a false negative result. When I dig into to find out why the result return negative, I realize the following factors can prevent detection of a speaker voice.

1. The encoding software used to convert from any file type to .wav file

2. Noise in an audio file

3. Quality of the audio file

It is also important to understand that there is a difference between Speaker Recognition and Speech Recognition. According to wikipedia - “Speaker recognition is the identification of a person from characteristics of voices (voice biometrics). It is also called voice recognition. There is a difference between speaker recognition (recognizing who is speaking) and speech recognition (recognizing what is being said).”

I went on to test Audio /Sound Fingerprinting in android app

(The file size is big to attach here. I will look for a way to share to anyone that wants to download)
how is this different from my own submission?

I used recognito and had about the same level of accuracy.
