Politics / Biafran National Team Winning The AFCON Cup by nairawall: 1:38pm On Feb 11, 2013
There is absolutely nothing transformational in the Biafran National Team winning the CUP as many want us to believe. While Abiola was languishing in jail under Abacha in 1994, the CUP was won. In 1996, while Abiola was mourning the assassination of his wife, Kudirat Abiola by Abacha, we won the Olympic gold in football.

Winning the CUP yesterday, predominantly with the players from the Igbo National team has helped to further the argument for Sovereign National Conference that will ensure True Federalism. The cup was won not based on Federal Character or Quota System as enshrined in our flawed unitary constitution.

If Okechukwu Keshi can grouped together Igbos and won the CUP, how much more if Yoruba people inside Nigeria are grouped together under Yoruba Autonomous Region, with a Yoruba Prime Minister, who controls all the wealth and resources of the Yorubaland? I can bet it within a decade, Yorubaland would have surpassed any greatness known to man.

Ok.

Most short code services bills per successful messages sent to your short code.

There is no way you can run from the access fee.
Webmasters / Re: I Need A Good Company To Setup A Shared Short Code Services For Me. by nairawall: 3:33pm On Feb 06, 2013
What would the short code do?
Is it for just a two way communication or simply to keep records?

I can help you setup one but I think your budget is pretty small given that most provider's charge a bit close to N90k - N100k for a shared short code and a monthly access fee of about 5k - 15k. This is outside the development of the application that interface with the short code.

A short code without a message processing application does nothing.

Do reply this thread and we can shapen your project and try to bring it within appropriate budget.

Sports / Corruption In Africa Soccer Administration by nairawall: 8:35am On Jan 25, 2013
Africa no doubt has been at the center of attraction for a while now, from the uprising in Libya, to the drought in the Horn of Africa, couple with petty crimes, internal terrorism and more importantly issues of political, economical and infrastructural deficiencies ravaging the land. Despite all this, Nature has blessed Africa with enormous talents and also market to match, from the war ravaged to a simile peaceful area in Africa.

Soccer in Africa is the most “followed” sport. In Nigeria alone, soccer is fast becoming Opium of the people.
Government alone controlled almost 100% funding of this sport. It is obvious that Government subventions are not enough which has always necessitated the call for private sector involvement. Though the later participation has always been on-and-off in recent times, the basic reason is their loss of confidence in the Administration in the land due to myopicness and the corrupt tendencies of these Administrators. Other stakeholders too seem to have lost confidence in these administrators. Though, the issue might not be that bad as it sound, but it is definitely hampering “genuine” Soccer development in the land.

Still on Nigeria, the National Soccer league, comprising of 20 clubs with more than $20million equivalently changing hand in every soccer season, while 98.5% of the aforementioned fund is unaccounted for. That is why it is very easy to compromise the local match officials and maybe, fix matches with impunity. The resultant effect is a badly organized and monitored soccer league. More so the local Soccer league is just the solution to all the soccer woes the country has been contending with for a while now. Systemic Soccer development can only be achieved if that league and every other index are in place.

Yours truly, has been at the vanguard, advocating for the local soccer authority to “Instutionalize the System of Accountability”: in which every cash-flow In the league are effectively monitored by an appointed, credible, and neutral “watch-dog” that is empowered to investigate, recover any misappropriated funds and prosecute any erring administrators, official, and even personnel’s. This is a proven way to raise confidence by the various stakeholders and more importantly the Sponsors/investors in such a way that for every cent they (sponsors) invested is judiciously expended in order to get value for their investments.

Sports / AFCON Telecast Still Possible- Sports Minister by nairawall: 1:04am On Jan 21, 2013
The Nigerian Sports Minister,Bolaji Abdullai, had assured the soccer-loving Nigerians that efforts were still been made to ensure Nigerians watch the live telecast of the 32 matches of the on-going African Cup of Nations(AFCON), currently going on in South Africa.

Abdullai made this promise at a Media Roundtable with the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria(SWAN),Lagos State Chapter, last Thursday.

The Minister, who said it was unfortunate that the country had found itself in such a difficult situation, wondered why those saddled with negotiation of acquiring the broadcast right acted late in starting negotiation.

The Minister, who said he was still optimistic that something would still happen because negotiation still continues, asked why this was just coming up now.

The issue of getting broadcast right by Nigeria for the on-going AFCON has been a subject of controversy between Nigeria and CAF.
Nigerians had missed some of the matches played yesterday and today, including the Opening ceremonies.

Religion / Pastor In Court To Divorce His Ninth Wife by nairawall: 8:17pm On Jan 20, 2013
Pastor Ope Balogun has pleaded with an Orile Agege Grade ‘B’ Customary Court, Lagos, to dissolve his three-year-old marriage to his wife, Taiwo, whom he accused of troublesome acts and nagging.

“My wife, Taiwo, is a troublesome woman. She has driven almost all my church members away”, the 54-year-old cleric, who lives at 7, Ilupeju Street, Oke-Odo, Agege, said as he testified that he had not known peace since he married his wife.

“My children from my previous marriage cannot come to our house because they are afraid of my wife. My family members cannot visit me as well.

“My Bible school students cannot continue their studies because of her incessant troubles and even some pastors working under me left the church.

Speaking further, Balogun alleged that his wife drove him out of his house on Nov. 2012.
“She pursued me from the house and she still came to damage the windows of where I am taking refuge,” he said.

The 36-year-old wife, Taiwo however denied the allegations. “I am the ninth wife of Pastor Balogun. Trouble started when I took in, and he told me that he did not want a child again but s*x.

“He maltreated me during the pregnancy and did not pay my hospital bills when I was delivered of the baby.

“I love and respect everyone around my husband, but what usually causes misunderstanding between us is the issue of money. He does not give me and my child money for feeding.

“After the delivery, he told me that I should be eating once a day, so how do you expect the house to be peaceful?”

The defendant however told the court that despite the fact that her husband doesn’t want her anymore; she doesn’t want to leave him because of her child.

Politics / Jonathan To Promoted Generals: Use Your Promotion To Fight Terrorism, Insecurity by nairawall: 3:37pm On Jan 19, 2013
President Goodluck Jonathan has challenged the fifty-five newly-promoted generals to use their promotion to stem the unfortunate tide of terrorism and insecurity in the country.

The President, was represented at the decoration ceremony of the generals, which consisted of some majors-generals,vice-admirals and rear-admirals,by the Minister of State for Defence, Mrs.Olusola Obada.

The new two-star generals comprised 22 major-generals,19 rear admiral and 14 air vice marshals.

President Jonathan, who is of the belief that through determination of Nigerian people to flush out the scourge of insecurity and persistent support from the international community, the nation's current security challenges would soon be over, hinted that the objective of his administration to transform all sectors of the Nigerian economy would not be fully actualized in an environment of gross insecurity.

He urged the newly- promoted military generals to devote their ideas and talents to peace and socio-economic development of the country.

Politics / Revealed! Why Nigerian Immigration Boss Was Sacked by nairawall: 3:08pm On Jan 19, 2013
Fresh facts emerged during the week as to the reasons behind the abrupt order from the Federal Government to the Comptroller- General of the Nigeria Immigration Service,Mrs.Rose Uzoma,to proceed on a compulsory pre-retirement leave.

Uzoma was ordered last Tuesday ,by the Federal Government to hand over her duties and responsibilities to the Service's most senior Deputy-Comptroller General, Rilwan Musa.

Findings revealed that the reason behind her sudden removal might not be unconnected to her involving the Presidency in the Service's latest recruitment saga.

A close source at the Ministry of Interior in Abuja confided in Ellist.com,that the Presidency decided to fire Uzoma, who he informed, has a few months left to her official retirement, for invloving the Presidency in the recruitment of new staff members to the Service.

The CGI was once rumoured to have shared the vacancy slots among certain prominent government functionaries- the president, president's mother, first ladies, minister of interior, among others.

While appearing recently before the House of Representatives Commitee on Federal Character,Uzoma ,who claimed she obtained the endorsement of the nation's Head of Service,to employ 4,560 people to the Service ,gave tha reason why the recruitment exercise was not advertised in the media, which was the grouse of the law-makers,who promptly summoned her for an explanation.

At the HOR,Uzoma said she did not advertise the job so as not to unknowinly recruit terrorists.

The vacancy slots given to top government functionaries were given as follows: President Jonathan,250 slots;First Lady, 100 slots; President's mother,40 slots; Minister of Interior,100 slots, among others.

The involvement of the President in the whole saga was said not to have gone down well with the President hence her compulsory sack.

Politics / Centenary Celebration: Lawmakers Clashed Over President's Request by nairawall: 9:40am On Jan 18, 2013
The Federal House of Representatives yesterday went rowdy,as a mild drama played out on the floor of the House.

The rowdy session was caused by President Jonathan's Letter of Request seeking the approval of the House for the nation's centenary celebration, which will come up next year,to mark the nation's one-hundred years of existence, after the Southern and Northern protectorates were amalgamated by Sir, Frederick Lord Lugard in 1914.

But the law-makers got extremely divided along two lines:those who opposed the approval and those in support the approval.

Among those opposing the approval of the sent letter, which was read on the floor of the House by the Speaker, was the Deputy Minority Leader,Samaila Kawu, who said the letter was in breach of privilege of the House. He further informed that the President ignored the House's invitation sometime last year and thus does not deserve the endorsement he(President) is currently seeking.

Supporting Hon. Kawu's position, was the House Minority Leader,Hon.Femi Gbajabiamila, who said approving the centenary celebration would amount to waste of scarce economic resources, especially when the government finds it hard to fund the budget.

Canvassing for the endorsement of the Pesident's request,Hon. Linus Okorie, was of the opinion that the celebration was in order and should be approved without further delay.

Politics / Abuja: Govt Bans Commercial Buses For Own Transport Scheme by nairawall: 10:11am On Jan 17, 2013
The Federal Capital Development Administration (FCDA) has placed an indefinite ban on privately-owned commercial buses ,popularly called ''Araba'' from the Federal Capital.

The ban had since stopped commercial buses from plying the city centre. And as a result, there have been serious transportation problems facing the people in Abuja, especially those who reside in the satellite towns surrounding the city.

The ban has been taking its toll on virtually everybody: government workers, residents and the drivers themselve, whose means of livelihood had been dealt a great blow.Workers who live on the outskirts of the city now arrive their workplaces late due to transportation hitches which make them waste precious time.

Ellist.com's findings showed that the ban was introduced by the government because of the government's plan to launch its own transportation scheme-special long buses to replace the privately-owned ones.

The ban,has since been affecting movement of workers and residents, who now find it hard to get to their places of work or business.Commercial and social activities have remain grounded since the ban was introduced this Monday.

Over 90% of Abuja residents live far away from the city centre; where they commute to work every morning due to high cost of accommodation in the city centre.

The ban still takes effect as at the time of sending this post.

Nairaland / General / Posters Seeking 'sugar Mummies' Invade Nigerian Capital City by nairawall: 9:07pm On Jan 13, 2013
Influxes of posters, expressing the readiness of some young men who are ready to be employed as lover boys to older women have flooded Abuja in recent times.

Posters or papers of this nature, are pasted on sideways in the city , with the inscriptions that read ‘Please, I’m available to serve as your lover boy’, has become a common sight in Abuja’s major and highbrow areas of Wuse, Asokoro, Gwarinpa ,among several others.

The ones spotted in the early hours of Sunday, at the Central Area, very close to the popular Thisday Dome reads thus:’’ Suga mummy call me if you need a young guy 4 dating.07065483371.You will like my style and treating’’. Information on them could at times be typed or handwritten, with the writer’s contacts, mostly telephone numbers inclusive.

Speaking to Ellist.com on what can push a young man to offer his body up for prostitution, an evangelist, who gave his name as Evang. Peter said: ‘’This is end time, when we should expect the unexpected. For young men, for whatever reasons, to offer themselves up for such a job shows the level of s*xual perverseness and immorality in our present society.’’

Also speaking, Mrs. Dolapo Adeniyi, who is of the opinion that the cause of this is the growing unemployment that has held the country by the jugular over the years. The youth are frustrated because they can get a job after school. They must feed; they must possess the necessary things, like food, clothes and so on. They need to survive by whatever means. Our government is not helping matters.’’

Ellist.com ‘s findings revealed that Abuja is a city where prostitution thrives more ,as there are more hotels and brothels located in it, where women are seen mostly at nights selling their bodies for money.
It was also revealed that Abuja is a place where prostitution does not only involve the ladies; it equally involves young men.

While confirming this, a newspaper vendor, who pleaded strict anonymity, said there are some areas where young men are spotted at nights, waiting for their patrons, whom he said are mostly popular society women, most of whom are single mothers, divorcees or wives of busy political/public officers, who cannot meet the s*xual needs of their wives.
The wives, he said, in their bid to ‘satisfy’ themselves, often take solace in these young men, most of whom are jobless, for a ‘treat’ at night, at either their houses or in one of the numerous hotels that dot the city.
Corroborating the above, was a commercial driver, who said at times, commercial drivers are sent to pick up these youths, whose ages are between 18 and 30,by some high-classed women for a fee, at nights.
As of the fee, the driver who gave his name as Tunji said it all depends on how s*xually skillful and handsome the guy could be. That the fee ranges from N10, 000 to N50, 000 per night.

On patronage, he said the patronage has been encouraging as many clients do patronize them at night. That in fact, some of the youths have regular clients, who often call them on the phone, to join them at a hotel or other secret places, for some fun.

His words: “Some of these young men are big boys that make a decent living from this. You know Abuja is no man’s land, where most couples, for official reasons, are not living together. This makes the trade more impressive and lucrative.

Politics / The Persisitent Boko Haram Menace: The Best Way Out by nairawall: 8:55pm On Jan 13, 2013
One major challenge Nigerians are currently facing besides extreme poverty and growing unemployment that the country is notorious for, is the growing insecurity, which has rendered the nation grossly unsafe, with thousands killed and property worth billions of Naira destroyed. Daily, there is panic in the land and the country is tilting towards the predicted disintegration.

Nigerian security problems seem to be in phases: in those days, it used to be a series of armed robberies. Then, it advanced to kidnapping-an off-shoot of the Niger Delta militancy and today, to what used to be an alien to the country, bombings and suicide bombings, which the country recorded its first case on the 16th,June 2011,when the Police headquarters was attacked by the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

Thereafter, bombings have continued to be a recurring decimal, recurring unabatedly, therefore, throwing the whole nation, nay the world into a pandemonium. Today, in Nigeria, the fear of Boko Haram is the beginning of wisdom for all Nigerian and world citizens, who often catch cold whenever Boko Haram sneezes. From Europe to Asia, Australia to the rest of Africa, the Africa’s most populous nation, Nigeria, is always in the news, for wrong reasons: Boko Haram insurgency.

Boko Haram has become a nuisance, a menace and an endemic and pandemic scourge to the country .It is holding the entire Nigeria, especially the northeast zone hostage. It was formed in 2002 in Maiduguri, Borno State; it has since 2009 exposed the ineptitude of the nation’s security agencies and the insensitivity of the government, most of whom are masterminds and sponsors of the nation’s most dreaded Islamic sect, a sect many believe has a link with the Al-Qaeda of the North-Africa.
Confirming Boko Haram external affiliations, the former National Security Adviser, Gen. Owoeye Azazi (retd) said recently, while fielding questions from foreign news agency in Abuja: ‘’There is now wealth of evidence that Boko Haram has linked up with global jihadists like Al-Qaeda’s North African wing, including meetings between the sect members and evidence show some are trained outside Nigeria and their increasingly sophisticated bomb making technologies’’.

While buttressing this point recently during an interview with a London newspaper, the arrested Boko Haram spokesman, Abu Qaqa confirmed that the group’s leaders met with the Al-Qaeda in Saudi Arabia last August where they cemented the group’s financial and logistic base. His words: ‘’Al-Qaeda are our brothers. During the lesser hajj, our leaders travelled to Saudi Arabia and met Al-Qaeda there. We enjoy financial and technical support from them. Anything we want from them we ask them’’.

Bombings, the latest entrants into Nigeria’s security problems, right from the October 1, 2010 bombing at the Eagle Square, bombings have become celebratory fireworks that can be likened to the ones seen at carnivals. And the country has lost count of its numerous explosions as well as its uncountable hapless victims.

The solution; the best antidote for curbing if not eradicating it totally. On this, Nigeria seems confused .Nigerians are equally divided along several schools of thoughts on how best to stop this fatal Boko Haram insurgency. The president is also clueless on the best method to adopt. Everybody seems confused and clueless like the president. While many see dialogue, peaceful and bloodless resolution to these attacks, thousands are advocates of violence, military option and bloody resolution.

Foreign Affairs / Ghana's Oil Production Hits Over 105, 000 Barrels Per Day by nairawall: 11:51am On Dec 21, 2012
Oil production on Ghana's Jubilee Oil Field is now in excess of 105,000 barrels per day (bpd), one of the partners, Kosmos Energy, has announced.

The lead operator on the Jubilee Field, Tullow Oil, in a report last week, said production had reached 90,000 bpd because the much anticipated Jubilee Phase 1A project had finally come on stream.

It said production on the Phase 1A was now at a rate of 16,500 bpd boosting total output on the field to 90,000 bpd.

In its update on the company's global operations last Wednesday, Kosmos Energy said production was in excess of 105,000 bpd.
