Fair but for 90% of a city with a population of over 3M to look like that is just a shame. I would rather have Mathare and Kibera in 6% of the land while 94% of the city is awesome. Look at Nakuru's aerial view and see the difference. Where would you rather live?

I really donno d population of Kibera buh slums r irregular settlements which happen to be very densely populated. So it's very common for slums to be highly populated compared to their smaller sizes.

Actually well planned neighborhoods with high-rises like Nyayo Housing Sacco in Nairobi below tend to have higher densities than slums (non high-rise ones)

If i show u the modern parts of Ibadan, the first sky scrapper in Africa was built in Ibadan. Ibadan is the largest city in west Africa or even the entire Africa if am not mistaken. So, a very large part of it is modern.

~~~There r old sections of other african cities (north africa especially) that look as terrible as the old sections of Ibadan. They can never be classified as slums, cos they were never built as slums n were very beautiful in the times of their prime.
I can show you pictures of these old Ibadan houses many decades ago in their prime n you will be wowed. Can you show me beautiful pictures of Mathare or Kibera in their prime?

For heaven's sake we are talking about the present. Ibadan was awesome years ago, today it's a slum so we'll call it a slum. Majengo too was awesome years ago, now it's a slum.

The few 'nice' places of Ibadan are still a joke in comparison to much smaller cities in Kenya like Kisumu and Nakuru. Most of Ibadan largely remains a dump.

Yeah......that's the worst of Mathare and I agree it's bad. But you see Mathare occupies a very small percentage of Nairobi. Meanwhile the whole of Ibadan looks like that. I showed you photos of Majengo slum which has a similar history to Ibadan. It was initially a Swahili settlement with traditional Swahili architecture that fell into disrepair with time. Right now those once awesome houses that are currently occupied by people from the coast and Tanzanians are badly maintained and dirty just like Ibadan and Abeokuta - I showed you the photos. Very similar. See, we don't excuse Majengo from being called a slum because it ain't as bad as Mathare. Even high end neighborhoods are not posh to the same scale. Majengo is still a slum, just like 90% of Ibadan and Abeokuta.

Most of the houses here have septic tanks n access to other toilet facilities, drainages, motorable roads, boreholes e.t.c.
This is why they can never be classified as slums

Those are the nicer places in Ibadan and are just as good as the nicer places of Mathare and Kibera.

Nairobi is a planned city. Slums take up 6% of the total land while good housing takes the rest. Nigerian cities seem all effd up with slums taking up as high as 90% of the total area. See Majengo slum below that your friends keep talking about and compare it with 'normal' housing in Ibadan and Abeokuta. No difference. The only difference is 90% of Ibadan looks like that while only 6% of Nairobi looks like that.

Most of those houses are made of concrete blocks, their walls plastered n are not like the kenyan slums which i see made of wood, mud, plastics or zincs. Those ugly houses in Ibadan, Abeokuta and around Lagos are slums. You'll need to revisit your definition of slum. Btw I recently bought a small plot in Nairobi and I'm planning to put up a beautiful slum like this wooden house in Nairobi.
