arinzeejikonye: To you this is groundbreaking, but to Nigeria it is not new,
Nigeria have done this as far back as 1972 in university of ibadan, before Africa got accustomed to the Internet,
It took Kenya about almost 50 doctors to perform this, for about 23 hours and you don't want us to hear a word, when that of University of maiduguri performed same feet for just 12 hours by a couple of doctors in 2011, Did you see Nigerians jumping like monkeys in the safari?
Mind you the twins shared vital organs too including liver, intestines, and so on,
As a matter of fact apart from this being done in 1972 in ibadan,
Other institutions in enugu, Lagos, etc have done these feet,
In health Nigeria beats Kenya hands down
https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/sunday/index.php/feature/3134-inside-unimaids-breakthrough-with-conjoined-twins-surgery
Initially, there were rumours in the town that only one of the twins would survive because of the complexity of the situation. But after meticulous team work and endless prayers from well-wishers, the process turned out to be a huge success.Probably that was why all the doctors were elated, including dozens of medical students who watched the “miracle” via a television. “We have succeeded in separating the two male conjoined twins,” the lead surgeon, Dr Auwal Abubakar said to us. According to him, “in medical terms, we call their situation iskiophagus (joined at the pelvis). This type of conjunction is the most complex, because their lives were conjoined. Both of them have a small intestine, but shared one single large intestine,” Dr Abubakar said. “We are grateful to God for making this possible…we are really grateful,” he said, admitting that the credit goes to many people. According to him “This is not only pediatric surgery, it is a team work. We had pre - surgery conferences together with other specialists, and discussed several investigations. Apart from the liver that was conjoined, we had predicted almost all the abnormalities we found in the babies. “Plastic and reconstructive surgeons played vital roles in reconstruction. Orthopedic surgeons helped us in separating the bones, theatre nurses also assisted in their own field. anathesialogist kept the babies alive and asleep for close to thirteen hours. Our engineers in the hospital contributed immensely, because they placed us on generator and we didn’t have power failure,” Dr Auwal remaked. He also gave credit to the medical students in the hospital. “About nine of them donated the blood facilityused for the operation.” He said the operation took a long time because of the complications inherent in the systems of the babies. “We had to divide the large intestine into two… we also separated the intestine of the first baby, and joined it with the distal part of the bowel that goes into the anus. We then used the other half of the large intestine to construct an anus for the second baby. The process was really complicated,” the surgeon added. He said as a result of the amendments made in the body of the twins, one of the three legs which they were delivered with, had been severed and they would now have one leg each, and that one of them will grow up as a female. “The two babies shared a single male external genital; as such we left the genital to one of them, because it is much easier to construct a female external genital than that of male. We have actually explained this to the parents, and we are going to raise one of the babies as a female,” he said. Asked whether Hussain whose name will be changed to Hussaina (female) will give birth later in life, Dr Auwal said no. “She will function normally, but will not reproduce, because there are no reproductive organs, we have removed the testicles.” He said the children will be kept in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for convalescence. “This is not the last procedure of the operation. We would have to do other things to tidy up other problems. We would much later go into the phase of rehabilitation, like getting them an artificial limb,” he said. He said this is the second time that this type of operation was done in Nigeria. “The first was in Ibadan in 1972, but the conjoined twins had four legs. Many other pediatric centers in Zaria, Ibadan, Ife, Enugu and other places, had separated other types of conjoined twins, but this is the second time that this particular type has been done,” Dr Auwal revealed. Asked about the factors responsible for giving birth to conjoined twins, Dr Auwal smiled. “Well, nobody will really tell you the cause of giving birth to conjoined twins, but the case is more common in Africa and Asia. Usually when you have twins, they split into two during their formation, but this one did not.” “It was one of our students who was then in Ningi that saw the mother with the children, and recognized the deformity early. He immediately referred them to us and contacted me for discussion. “We deliberately delayed the operation because the chance of survival if you separate them testicles early is 20 per cent and if done it at that (about one year old) they have 80 per cent chance of survival. This is because, if the conjoined twins are bigger, they would be able to tolerate the anesthesia better, and will stand post operation stress. Their tissues would be bigger, and you will be able to identify them much easier,” Dr Auwal said. He praised the management of the hospital for giving all the desired support. “The management of UMTH had waived all the medical bills of the twins because of the status of the parents. There is no way they could foot the bills of the operation, including all the tests and examinations,” he said. Dr Auwal said the efforts put in by all who took part in the operation will not be in vain. “We think they have good chances of survival even though this is not the last of the procedures of the operation. We would have to do other things to tidy up other problems, because…there similar reported cases around the world and the children are doing very well,” he said. He assured that if given the necessary support, doctors at the hospital have the potentials of doing even more complex operations in the future. Binta, the mother of the twins, said the separation of the twins was the greatest thing that happened to her, and expressed gratitude to God. “When they were ‘gummed’ together, managing their life was very difficult. They had only one anus and you cannot tell who wants to excrete. “Sometimes one will like to sleep and the other might not be in the mood to sleep. I therefore have to cajole all of them to sleep…it was really an experience that I will live to remember,” she said. Binta said she had given birth five times and had never gone to hospital for ante natal care. “I gave birth to all of them at home, through the help of local birth attendants,” she said. Her husband, Isa, said he never thought his twins will have a semblance of normal life. “As a poor man, it was really, very tasking taking care of the twins. The only big support we got was from a former chairman of Ningi local government area, who gave us N50,000 to buy food for the kids,” he said. Isa said since that time, there was no tangible financial assistance, and therefore called on well meaning Nigerians to help them. “The parents really need help because they would remain in the hospital with the separated twins for some time, and you know what this means,” a nurse at UMTH observed. For me, the adventure at the operation theatre was a worthwhile and unforgettable experience. We watched and took pictures as doctors pierced and stitched the babies. “Today, you too (journalists) are honorary doctors,” one of the surgeons humoured as we walked out of the operation theatre. Two days after the operation, the same doctor called and joyfully remarked “The twins are in stable condition, we are pleased with what is happening,” he said. Too many words empty points. I told you what happened at the University of Nairobi was a first in SSA outside SA. Stop giving me mere separations that have been happening in Kenya since the 60s. http://www.the-star.co.ke/news/2017/02/07/successfully-separated-twins-show-remarkable-recovery-enjoy-playful_c1502351 |

arinzeejikonye: In health, as far back as 2003, University of ibadan college of health had already separated conjoined twin, University of maiduguri did it in 2011,University of Nigeria did it almost 4 times,
So Nigeria have done it, before Kenya thought of doing it What was the nature of conjoining? Kenya has been separating conjoined twins for years but last year's case was special in that the two girls shared vital parts of their bodies and it was a first one in Africa outside SA. Only SA has done that. Took 23 hours to complete. http://www.capitalfm.co.ke/news/2016/11/conjoined-twin-girls-survive-groundbreaking-surgery-in-sub-saharan-first/ |

We are not saying Kenyans had no culture. What we are saying is that you guys do not promote them or take pride in them. N you will agree with me that we are not wrong by saying this.
>>>> yaah the kenyan swahilis, nilotes n cushitics have great cultures n they try to promote theirs buh you Bantus are the majority in the country n you guys do not promote or uphold culture as elements of national pride or identity. If you did, it would have been a different story. Do you have an idea of how annoying you sound? B.itch, you've even never been to Kenya - the way you talk about Kenya with such confidence elevating your country above it one might think you live in Kenya....lol. Below is a Kenyan matatu. That's our culture - we market it through graffiti and building fancy vehicle bodies. Just to sound annoying as you sound is posting such pictures over and over and wondering why Nigerians have no culture and don't modify their buses to look like this thus not promoting their culture as elements of national pride and identity.

South Africa is waaay ahead of us in infrastructure, technology, military, standards of living, well planned and maintained cities, clean and beautiful cities etc. Nobody disputes that but there's a guy here who's trying to misinform people on the status of wild animals and conservation in the two countries. |

jln115: Large game include kudu, eland, waterbuck, zebra, impala, gemsbuck ect ect.
And why is my source absurd?? Because you say so??
"South Africa currently has an estimated 20.5 million head of game (approximately 16 million on private land and the rest on state parks)"
http://www.africanskyhunting.co.za/articles/hunting-and-conservation.html
As I said before the head count only contains permanent game not migrating animals......that said if you include all the migrating animals, the population would still make up barley a tenth of that in SA. So according to you the population of widebeests, elands, waterbucks, greater kudus, buffaloes, elephants, rhinos, zebras etc in Kenya is 700k? dude you need to see a doctor. I'm done with you. PS... Non of the links you post gives the absurd figures of 20M for SA 700k for Kenya. They just go on talking about how hunting is good. Blogs done by hunters to prove hunting is good won't give you the right figures for anything. Go to KWS and you'll find the correct figures for Kenya's game. The African country with the highest number of large game is Tanzania, not SA. |

freshest4live: The HDI is important but Kenya's HDI in Africa which just recently puts her at the middle class is nothing to boast about yet, and of course Nigeria should sit up and do better. GDP is the greatest measure for powerful societies or economies, that's just the way it is unfortunately, l also believe HDI should be what really matters, but it's not as simple as that. A 70 Billion dollar GDP for 45million people does not speak well of the Kenyan progress. This is the reason Kenya is not there yet for a so called dick measuring. You can't measure up in Economy, Military, Technology, Entertainment, Resources, except you wanna speak of Tourism and of course HDI. Nigeria was the second largest economy in Africa for a long time despite using a 1990 model that didn't account for all aspects of her economy like Nollywood, fashion and the boom in telecommunication, even at that we were just slightly behind south africa, when all of these factors were brought in for the rebasement in 2014, it was already believed Nigeria would topple south africa by a wide margin. You can see that we rarely talk about GDP when speaking with the south africans, this is because the SA with a GDP of about 350 Billion dollars for 50 million people is definitely a big economy in Africa. Like you've said let's forget it, the arguement is not worth it. What technology is this that some Nigerians keep talking about? |

jln115: "The number of the 18 most common wildlife species reduced from a total of 1,809,605 in 1977-1980 to 607,233 in 2011-2013." The number includes your wildebeest population not that of migrating wildebeest since the don't stay in your country permanently!
http://theconversation.com/kenyas-wildlife-populations-are-declining-markedly-as-livestock-numbers-grow-6664 So which are those South African large animals that number 20M? Elephants? Buffaloes? Rhinos? See, there are only 700k Elephants in Africa, Buffaloes are 830k, rhinos are barely over 5k. Those put together are just about 1.5M animals in the whole Africa. Which are those mammals that make up 20M in SA then? About the wildebeest, I told you they're just less than 1M in Maasai Mara after emigration and over 3M after immigration. All in all, the migrating animals move between Kenya and Tanzania and you've put the figure at less than 1M for both countries. That's absurd. Again those are figures for Maasai Mara alone. PS... Your link is absurd. Not only is it unreliable, it says nothing about the numbers of wildlife in Kenya. Honestly you sound like a troll. |

jln115: Google is your friend........ honestly doesn't mean much to have more Animals than the rest of Africa since only Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana , Namibia and Zimbabwe have any large mammals species left:
Total heads of large game:
Kenya: 700 000 Namibia:3 000 000 Botswana:+-2 000 000 Tanzania: less than 1 000 000 Zimbabwe: +- 1 500 000
South Africa: 20 500 000
@TayserMahiri It's not about meaning anything. It's about being factual........and where did you get these crappy numbers? lol. Maasai Mara alone has over 1 million heads of wildebeest alone dude (the population is actually over 3M after migration from Tanzania). That's just wildebeest - and here you claim Kenya has 700,000 heads of animals? |

Oromo is ethnic group as you know.
Borena is one of the 21 zones in Oromia region. Oromos in Borena are known Borena Oromos. Borena is also one of the 2 main Oromos branch.
Galla was the official term used by Adals and Abyssinians to refer Oromos before 20th century. Now, it's an insulting term against Oromos. If you call a Oromo person "Galla", he/she might beat you or who knows, he/she might even kill you. Well, in Kenya we have a cushite community we call Galla and we also have Oromo and Borana and non of the words is considered derogatory here. The Galla live much southward in Tana River County while the Oromo and Borana live in the North. I don't know about the Ethiopian situation though. |

Nowenuse: I am not just talking about looks here, but mostly about character, mindset and dispositions.
Do you also know that people sometimes tend to acquire the physical looks of the people of a place they grew up? For instance, when i go back to my home state, some people over there are surprised to hear that i am from the north, cos i do not look so much like them. They claim that i look more like a Southerner. Likewise, there are many southerners in my home state whom look so much like my own people that i get shocked when they say they are from the south because they were born and bred in the north. Sometimes it is like this. Wow......now you know so much about Kenyans' character and mindset? How many Kenyans have you met and how many times have you been to Kenya? So who did the Kenyans get their supposed ugly looks from since based on your argument people somehow change looks to look like people they live with. So did the Ethiopian-related Kenyans get their ugly looks from the Tanzanian-related Kenyans or it's the other way round? |

Boko haram has been largely contained to just one northern state and there are 19 northern states. ****So, it's very safe, depending on what part of the north you are living in. The north-central n north-west r safe. The north-east is the troubled zone. The WHOLE of Nigeria is a barely over one and a half times the size of Kenya, 1.58 times to be precise. |

Nowenuse: Kenyans may share some ethnic groups with Tanzanians and Ethiopians but that does not make the people (especially the urban populations) have the same views, perceptions and dispositions to life.
Overtime, since independence, most africans are now developing urban cultures, identities, lifestyles and ways of living due to the economic and political conditions in their respective countries.
An Ethiopian Somali that grew up in urban Adis Ababa may share more in common with other Ethiopians from different ethnic groups than a Kenyan somali that grew up in Nairobi together with other Kenyans from different groups. This applies almost everywhere. You should know this. But you said Kenyans are ugly while Ethiopians and Tanzanians are beautiful. Does a Somali growing up in Nairobi become ugly while a Somali in Addis becomes beautiful? Would a Maasai in Nakuru become ugly while a Maasai in Arusha become beautiful? How does a Luhya in Kakamega become ugly while her Sukuma sister in Mwanza become beautiful? |
