naijalander: I think the English language a tool of expression not a measure on intellect.
Also keep your Kenyan disrespect for women out of this forum. No need to call a woman a b#tch cos she's beating you at argument. When you can't express yourself in a language that's the main language of instruction in all your academic institutions and your national language then that's stupidity. |

Henrydone: Nigeria produces more electricity than kenya, ghana with a lesser population also produce more electricity than kenya,Ghana still experience power cut,not to talk of kenya, Nigeria ranks among top 100 electricity producer in d world around 60 sometin kenya does not rank http://www.indexmundi.com/g/r.aspx?t=100&v=79&l=en not just producing more electricity than kenya but also consuming more electricity than kenya https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List-of-countries-by-electricity-consumption. Nigeria also produce more electricity per capita than kenya as in power produced per person http://www.economicshelp.org/blog/59881/economics/list-of-countries-energy-use-per-capita/ kenya is no ways better than nigeria Why don't you talk to a Nigerian that has actually lived in Kenya if you think we are making this stuff up? Your list talks about ENERGY not ELECTRICITY - you consume more energy due to your generators. It is way more expensive for somebody to run their own generator than be connected to a stable national grid. I would spend more money running a generator in my home for a day than what I spend on electricity for three months. |

I don't blame you though - simple everyday words to me are things that amuse you. PissedYagami: a wordpress link. Kibera is the largest slum at 2.5km2. And the government found out that there are 170k people there during the census. Mathare valley slums are located in an old quarry 2km long and 300m wide . Do your math. Is that 401sq km to you?? Others are waaaaaaaaaay smaller. See how salty you are, trying to inflate the figures Nairobi minus Nairobi National Park, Ngong Forest and Karura Forest is about 400 sq. km. According to this dude the whole of Nairobi is Mathare. He is either a madman or his hatred for Kenya is psychological. I don't know what really happened to him but he must have gone through some bad shit in Kenya - and I mean some REALLY bad shit - like someone sodomized him in Kenya or something. |

iblawi: What makes the buildings crappy? They are old buildings that's all.
Go check out the meaning of slum first. A slum is a heavily populated urban informal settlement characterized by substandard housing and squalor. While slums differ in size and other characteristics, most lack reliable sanitation services, supply of clean water, reliable electricity. From the definition above, Ajegunle is even more of a slum than Kibera - Kibera has a constant supply of electricity. |

Pavore9: There is no blanket answer to that as it depends on who you ask. Personally, Nairobi favours me because of what am into as l have more access to opportunities because it is a hub when it comes to what am into.
I live with a certain measure of certainty as l take so many things here for granted. My stay in Nairobi also favours some relatives back in Lagos as l use my local contacts to help them market products that are local to Nigerians but yield more when sold in Kenya as there are stuffs that sells locally for N500 but sells easily for $18 in Nairobi and it is no big deal to the buyers.
There are many Nigerians coming over for studies as one can get a bachelors degree in 2 yrs 8months and after graduation, can relocate to other parts of the world easily and legally (if you know your way)
There are aspects of the Nigerian life, l will never exchange for anything because it keeps one grounded.
It is not about competition but we should have an open mind to benefit from each other as a lot of stuffs l shared in the Agric section, l picked up from Kenyans who were willing to share knowledge just as l have shared with some Kenyans how to achieve better results applying the Nigerian way of doing them. Thank you. Here comes a Nigerian who's actually lived in Kenya. |

iblawi: All I see is slums everywhere in the pics you posted. Look around the pics very well. We even have the video.
Ajegunle, bariga, badia etc are not slums. They have bad sanitation and old building's. The are not even poor people like those in Kibera. You must be having very high standards for Kenya yet no standards at all for Nigeria. That's a compliment to Kenya you know? ......from what you guys are saying, bad sanitation and crappy buildings is a very normal thing to you that you you don't consider such conditions to be slums. |

ianSweet: Yes, having a market is no excuse i agree but lack of sanitation is not enough reason to classify a place as a slum. You see those market areas in Onitsha, people do not live there, so they tend not to take sanitation in those places serious. However, their state govt has really done a lot and i will show u pictures of the new sanitized Onitsha market.
One thing u must understand is that a full blown slum and a low income area are not the same thing, although they may look similar sometimes. A place, no matter how much sanitation it lacks, as long as most of the residents there have an acess to modern toilet facilities and a sewage, paved motorable roads, appartment styled houses built of proper concrete blocks or bricks, such place can never be classified as a slum.
Take a look at the so called Agegunle for yourself, it just cannot be compared to the likes of Kibera. See storey buildings, clear cut roads e.t.c, just that they are in bad conditions, however the current governor is doing a lot to repair their roads as u can see in the last picture.
Nairobi's slums are just too terrible, numerous and large in size and that is why they receive more world and foreign attention. You mean those places are better than Kibera in photo below? Girl, you're very useless. Look at Kibera below and compare it with your Ajegunle

ianSweet: Yes, Onitsha has a lot of dirty places because it has some of the largest markets in West Africa. The market parts of the city only lacks sanitation, but other than that, it can never be called a slum. Like I said before, what we consider slums elsewhere is what you consider normal housing and that's why you think you have no slums. All cities in the world have markets - having marketd is no excuse for being the dirtiest city in the world. |

Show us real rows and dozens of slum houses where people stay just like Kibera or Mathare. You wanted a slum, I gave you a slum.....is that not a slum? Stop being in denial. You've even never been to Lagos |

ianSweet: I dare you to produce the pictures of slums in Nigeria if u really can. All these places u are listing, i agree are low income areas but they are not slums because most of the houses you find in these places are made of blocks, bricks and concrete and are appartment styled houses with streets with motorable roads, sewages for each compounds and modern toilet facilities.
This is why apart from Makoko (which has been demolished), no other place in Lagos can be classified as a slum by the standard definition of a slum.
Prove that those places u mentioned are slums if truly you know what you claim! Bariga slum....
