Nowenuse: But Nigeria has a larger middle class than your country still. Imagine Nairobi where over 60% of the population live in slums. Where then is the middle class? Continuously claiming Nairobi has 60% people in slums won't push 60% of Nairobians into slums buddy. You've been shown over and over statistics showing Kenya has a larger middle class by percentage than Nairobi. Only Ghana is ahead of Kenya in West Africa. |

freshest4live: My friend, America is world power today mostly because of GDP(wealth, technology, infrastructures all show in their GDP despite the inequality and lower HDI by their standard). The world considers Nigeria, southafrica and Egypt as African powerhouses by African standard basically because of GDP. One of my parkistani friend some time ago was about searching on Nigeria via Google after meeting me, the first thing he searched for on google was GDP. Your wealth should reflect on your GDP and GDP per capita. The best student is not the best because they know him as the best in usual classwork and quiz, the best student is usually known as the best due to his cgpa. Not fair, and l don't like it myself, but that's just the way it is. Stop comparing Nigeria to the USA. The USA has a GDP of $18 trillion that's why it's a world power. Nigeria has a GDP of $294 billion and peaked in 2014 at $584 billion. How can such a country be a superpower? You have a lower GDP than Singapore - can you consider Singapore a superpower? Stop comparing yourself with the US dude |

9jakool: Stop your hypocrisy. It's a well established fact, Nigeria's infrastructure deteriorated during military rule. Stop making fallacious arguments. The dictators in Nigeria were Nigerians, so Nigerians are terrible people? Lol, that got to be one of the most ridiculous and fallacious argument I've ever seen. In that case, Ugandans are messed up because of Iddi Amin and Germans are messed up because of Hitler, in fact most people in the world are messed up because many came from countries with some kind of dictatorship past.
Meanwhile you haven't address the high rate of inequality and corruption in your country, which is worse than Nigeria. Everything happens because people did it. You want to swim in the glory of Dangotes and Adenugas but refuse to accept the Abachas? I wonder why some Nigerians here always feel like they deserve more accolades for their success and excused for their failures. Mara ooh we have large population, ooh, dictators, ooh, oil destroyed us etc yet when they do well they take all the credit on themselves. Interestingly when other countries do better they tend to rubbish it - Mara oyinbo did it for them, they have small population etc. Dude, everything happens because it's done. Your military rulers happened because you're incapable of running a stable government. |

9jakool: Don't ever quote me out of context again!
Did I once mention other people don't have private jets?
Did I ask if you were impressed? no, I simply used that as an example to say that Nigeria's wealth is highly concentrated meaning you have more people in the higher bracket of millionaire-billionaire that's why the number of millionaires per capita is not as high. I used it as an example to highlight Nigeria's inequality.
I admitted that Nigeria has its fair of challenges, but your overinflated ego self had to quote me out of context to validate the illogical claim that Nigerians are more backward than Kenya. Next time, make sure your "non-backward/archaic" country scores better than Nigeria on the Corruption and the inequality index. I used to think Nigeria's corruption and inequality was the worst until I saw Kenya's statistics. Private jet or no private jet, it doesn't concern me, your country in reality has many issues including endemic corruption and inequality. You've seen no statistics buddy. In fact you no nothing about statistics and the economy. If you knew anything you'd realize all statistics indicate Nigeria has a bigger inequality than Kenya. Kenya's Gini = 42.5, Nigeria's Gini = 43 ..... oh, my bad. I forgot you don't even know what Gini is. Gini coefficient is an index used to measure wealth distribution. The higher it is, the more the inequality. |

DonnieTheGreat: 1.Yes am arrogant (am working on improving my humility).
2. Believe me sir am not poor..even by global standards
3. Thirdly, its not my reasoning its the way the Economics of the world works. Again Countries are ranked based on Economic performance (Gdp). It has nothing to do with me. The system was invented before my parents were even born.
4.I understand in a sane world Countries should not be measured by GDP but by the happiness and satisfaction of its citizens. But hey!, those are the pitfalls of democracy and capitalism. It system is built to favor inequality. Thats why the world is upside down.
Yes, Democracy and capitalism are hailed as the best inventions after sliced bread. But look at the world around you! inequality everywhere. Don't blame the leaders they are a victim of the system.....blame the system itself.
Do you understand? What do you mean by 'countries are ranked based on economic performance'? That statement alone is enough testament that you're illiterate. There are different rankings - for example, Kenya ranks number eight in Rugby Sevens. So is that not a ranking because it ain't GDP? |

And besides, it's quite mad to compare with South African cities that have been built hundreds of years ago. I laugh when you use military rule as an excuse. Nowenuse: Yes, the lowest income areas of Nigerian cities look slumish, but yet they are still not slums!
These pics below are pics of Festac town (outside Lagos city), but in Lagos state. See what the average and lowest areas there look like. I have dared Kenyans here to show me what the average, low and lowest income areas of Nairobi look like (aside the slums), but none of you guys can!
It's not about posting beautiful pics of hotels and resorts in Nairobi and Mombasa which majority of the residents cannot afford and continue to languish in slums. A federal housing estate is what you're parading as Nigeria's low income area? Duude. |

Nowenuse: Yes, but Nigeria can never be as unequal as Kenya with wealthy people living in the beautiful CBD side by side with residents of Africa's largest and most terrible slums. I don't know how disorganized your cities are there but here people don't live in the CBD. 9jakool: When GEJ visited Kenya with an entourage of 7 jets, one Kenyan official was shocked of the many private jets. Sometimes I laugh at the reasoning of some of you guys lol. Dude, ask yourself why the official was shocked. See my friend - such entourages are so ancient here in Kenya we pity countries whose presidents still do that. Such entourages are synonymous with dictatorships and used to happen in Kenya during dictator Moi's regime. See, former president Moi once visited New York with an entourage of private jets, military jets and state jets as was his. The following day, New York papers headlines read "Pauper arrives in style" ridiculing what lengths presidents of some third world countries go to to show might. That was Kenya of those days when our president moved around like the president of the world. Meanwhile the president's of very wealthy presidents only move around in a single state jet and one or two military jets. Currently here we viewed that kind of opulence so backward and archaic - something we used to do when we were 'young and stupid'. You think other countries don't have people who own private jets? No buddy, they do. It's just that other countries have matured. They see no reason why the president and a small delegation should go around in several private jets when a single state jet and one or two military jets are enough. We were actually laughing at you - not impressed with you. |

Nowenuse: What is a shame? That the Mombasa city you are trying to brag about is poorer than the national average of Kenya (in per capital income)?
Rivers state (where PH city is found) is 2 times richer than the Nigerian national average. This means PH city should be 4 times richer than the national average (in per capital come). This shows that anyone who migrates to PH city has better prospects of being more succesful than anyone who migrates to Mombasa. Please stop this stupidity. Quoting a random Google search page over and over? ....and to think even the figures you're quoting are not GDP per capita? Dude, that's too low. |

Nowenuse: True. But at least they are making some progress and are not regressing. I think TZ took the swahilinization thing too far. It somehow secluded them and made them quite local in mentality. But the way Tanzanians portray themselves in their musics, movies an tv shows seems very contrasting with what we are saying about them. Why is that so?
(I may be wrong) but they seem to have a higher urbanized and lively social population than other East Africans from what i have observed. They also tend to appear more beautiful, neat, reserved, civilized, friendly, classy, easy-going and cool-headed than Kenyans (am very sorry if i seem too indiscreet), that's just my sincere and personal observation from Tanzanians and Kenyans i see on TV. Why is this so? What's wrong with you dude? are you deliberately trying to start a flame war between Kenya and Tanzania? |

Nowenuse: Kibera alone has 3 million people, what about the other dozens? Pls, tell that to the birds.
Okay, let's settle it this way.
What is the total GDP of Nairobi? Then we divide it by the 6 million people of Nairobi. If the GDP per capital is below or equal the national average, then it's obvious that half of Nairobi's population live in slums and poverty, but if it is far above the national average, (just like Lagos is far above Nigeria's average), then we know that the poor slum dwellers are not so numerous.
Are you up for this challenge?? Kenya's GDP = $75 billion Nairobi's GDP = 40% of Kenya's. Nairobi's GDP = $30 billion Nairobi's population = 4 million Nairobi's GDP per capita =$ 7500 Lagos GDP per capita = $4300 ......and you still think Lagos is richer than Nairobi? |
