The brown roofs are a brand peculiar to Ibadan. While the slums there are due to bad roads and horrible drainage, the houses are built with concrete.

Slum housing in Kenya is built with iron roof sheet and you know it.

The fact that you can compare a slum in Kenya (which occupies less than 5% of urban land) to 'normal housing' in Ibadan that occupy over 70% of the city explains the situation in Kenyan and Nigerian cities. I rest my case.

The Nigerians in Kenya are only there because they do not have access to 24 hour electricity, every other thing, there is simply no competition.

If they could afford 24 hours electricity like some people in Naija do, they would not even bother with Kenya.

There is a level of disorganization in every third world city but the level of disorganization in Nigerian cities is far worse than that in Kenyan cities. For instance you have to be out of your mind to rubbish the gap between the organization of Nakuru and that of Ibadan.

You can probably argue Kenya edges in Nigeria in a large number of aspects, but cities like Lagos and Abuja (most especially Lagos), completely murders Kenya, on a general level.

To simplify, Lagos' GDP at $130B is twice that of Kenya, while it'S GDP per capita (PPP), is thrice that of Kenya, and that margin is set to get even wider in some couple of years.

No hate towards Kenya, but it is what it is. I've been there (Nairobi), I have very good friends from there, both those we met from different parts of the world and those we met in Kenya (especially my very dear special Meru friend -- she is amazing).

Actually, my outfit should start operation in both Nairobi and Mombasa in few months . . . looking forward to it.

I still see no argument in this. Having checked through the thread, it's so obvious Kenya has about 3 major cities. Nigeria has more than 10. Imagine you combine the infrastructure in all the cities for each country, then you can have a clearer picture of the argument.

Kenya having 3 major cities to Nigeria doesn't place Nigeria ahead of Kenya considering you guys have four times our population. Again, Our 3 cities are better organized and planned than your 10 cities.

Brand or not they are crap. The quality of housing is bad, the roads are bad, the regions are ugly and I doubt anyone would wish to live there.

I know why I asked you that question........I have been to all those places and very few girls actually go through that thing. The problem is you get information on FGM from the same people who tell you Kibera's population is 2 million. See? NGOs want to make money and you won't get any donor funding by saying 99% of Kenya's only hear of FGM in the news and it is lower than 1% in communities that actually practice it.

Slums in Nigeria are not the same as what you would call a slum. Old houses having old brown roofs does not equate to slum unless you look at the interior of these houses.

But the truth is you don't consider those brown roofs to be slums lol! In fact there are many slums in Lagos that you guys don't consider slums that's why you think you have no slums. What you call slums, like Makoko are just as bad if not worse than Kibera and Mathare.

Unfortunately you are mentioning slums in Nairobi while I'm mentioning the normal Ibadan. of cause Nairobi slums are dusty but the whole of Nairobi is much better than Nigerian towns................and how long did you say you've been in Kenya? Thika Road was dusty before expansion? lol.........Thika road was lined with so many trees and greenery there was an outcry when the trees were being cut for expansion. I'm starting to doubt you now. That side of Ibadan has been there since the 1800s. Doesn't mean the people there are poor and hopeless.
That is the statue of one of its old leaders Aare Latosa. Ibadan is older than Nairobi.

It doesn't matter whether they are poor or not. What matters is the place is poor and unlivable. Mombasa and Lamu are way older than Ibadan yet they don't look like that.

Like I told your friend Naijalander, Nigerians have no appreciation of the environment that's why your cities are brown, dusty and with no trees. That Eldoret environment is the best place to live - within a city yet all green.
