Honestically:
When I read and listen to news about other states implementing increase in salaries of civil servants and other measures to cushion the impact of the subsidy removal and harsh economic reality, even in the states with very little resources, I feel bad about the type of leadership we have in Rivers State. Here in Rivers State, we are not even talking about increase in salaries to cushion the impact of the subsidy removal and the harsh economic reality that has made the current pay (without promotion for 10 years) a mockery in the face of the new economy reality but praying for promotions for 10 years plus. Is a pity we found ourselves in a state that is blessed with lots resources/revenue but we don't feel the impact of such because of the kind of leadership we have.

Last week I read some post here about a meeting and issues that concerns teachers and promotions. Attributing delay to absence of constituted board members and chairman, and a promise of doing so within a week. Now my questions:
1. Is it teachers that constitute board members and chairman that should bear the burden of failure of appointment of board members and chairman?
2. How long does it takes to appoint board members and chairman?
3. Are there no qualified persons in the state to be appointment board members and chairman?
4. When will the one week promised for the constitution of the board elapsed?

The government is not the problem but the civil servants. Most of the civil servants are praise singers of the politicians and believe that the politicians will cut their own cake for them reasons why many are not interested in promotion or minimum wage. Look at NLC and NUT in Rivers, do they exist,the answer is NO.The people believe promotion is a favour given to them by the government and not their right. But same people are on Radio stations criticising Lagos, Kaduna and FG.FG don't fail in all civil servants payment, same with Lagos and other states. Hypocrite criticising others but no time to criticize their own government. NLC and NUT don't even know that civil servants exist, there work is to collect union dues and share in name of an invisible Secretariat which is of no benefit to the teachers or workers.

Glory be to God. The Governor invited the 22 state officers of NUT and the concern teachers led by one Adoye from opobo who complained about the recent deductions by NUT as regards the teachers house and TRCN. His Excellency, after listening to both parties,cautioned Adoye and his group and ask them to support the union because protesting against the union will make them look like rebels and that it may lead to their suspension. He said this should be the last time any group aside the leaders of the union will plan for any protest without channelling their case to the union leaders because he has teachers at heart that if any one will trouble him that it should not be teachers. His Excellency said his first appointment into civil service was as a teacher and that it was teaching profession that made him what he is today. He promised to complete the teachers house to avoid further deductions. For promotion he said 'i know it is your right' for teachers in UBE, we have concluded with them but the senior secondary we are yet because we have not constituted the board but that it will be done in a week time. He promised to pay in arrears. FROM A FRIEND THAT WAS THERE.

We don't have a Teachers union, what we have as exco is a bunch of selfish political teachers working for their pockets.

AS WE ALL KNOW, A MEETING WAS SCHEDULED TO HOLD TODAY AT UST, BUT THE NUT CHAIRMAN AND HIS PEOPLE CALLED THE COMMISSIONER OF EDUCATION AND THE GOVERNOR THAT WE ARE PROTESTING AGAINST THE STATE GOVERNMENT.

WE IN THE CENTRAL PLANNING COMMITTEE WENT OUT EARLY IN THE MORNING TO CARRY OUT LOGISTICS, BUT WAS ADVISED TO PUT OFF THE MEETING FOR SECURITY REASONS, WHICH THIS HOUSE OBEYED, BUT STILL MONITORING THE HAPPENINGS..
THIS FALES ACCUSATIONS OF FIGHTING THE GOVERNMENT MADE THE GOVERNOR TO INVITE THE NUT CHAIRMAN AND HIS EXCOS TO THE GOVERNMENT HOUSE FOR A MEETING.

ON HEARING THIS, WE SENT ALL OUR PROTEST LETTERS AND PETITION TO THE GOVERNOR, COMMISSIONER OF EDUCATION,SSG, CHIEF OF STAFF AND SA TO GOVERNOR ON INTER GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS.
WHILE STILL AT DIOBU MONITORING EVENTS, THE DSS TRACKED ADONYE NUMBER AND TOOK HIM AWAY. THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME, SO WE SECRETLY SENT TEXT TO MADAM FLORENCE OGWUTUM WHO DROVE TO MEET US AT GOVERNMENT HOUSE GATE, SHOUTING WE ARE TEACHERS, THEN WE FINALLY GOT FAVOUR FROM THE GOVERNOR AND LEFT THE DSS SECURITY POST AND ENTERED THE GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

ON REACHING THERE, THE NUT CHAIRMAN WAS CALLED TO I IDENTIFY US BUT HE DENIED US THAT WE ARE NOT HIS TEACHERS, WE TOLD HIM THAT YOU DONT KNOW US BUT YOU ARE DEDUCTING OUR MONEY. BEFORE THE DSS TOOK US IN TO THE GOVERNOR'S CONFERENCE HALL

*MEETING WITH THE GOVERNOR*

THE GOVERNOR CAME TO THE MEETING WITH THE DEPUTY GOVERNOR, CHIEF OF STAFF, .HEAD OF SERVICE,COMMISSIONER FOR EDUCATION, AND PDP STATE CHAIRMAN.

WE STATED OUR POINTS BASED ON OUR DEMANDS AS IS IN OUR STRUGGLE AND THE NUT CHAIRMAN STATED HIS DEFENSE.

*RESOLUTION/ GOVERNOR'S DIRECTIVE*

1. THE GOVERNOR INSTRUCTED THAT ALL DEDUCTIONS ON THE BUILDING BE STOPPED IMMEDIATELY.

2. THE GOVERNOR, INSTRUCTED THE HEAD OF CIVIL SERVICE DR. GEORGE NWEKE AND THE COMMISSIONER FOR EDUCATION TO CALL THE TWO BODIES, (NUT AND US) TO RESOLVE ALL ISSUES.

3. THE GOVERNOR INSTRUCTED THAT THE COST OF THE REMAINING BUILDING BE SENT TO HIM , THAT HE WILL COMPLETE THE BUILDING.

4. THE GOVERNOR INFORMED US THAT THE PROMOTION OF UBE HAS BEEN APPROVED AND WILL BE IMPLEMENTED. BUT THAT OF SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IS ON HOLD DUE TO NO CONSTITUTED BOARD, BUT THAT HE WILL CONSTITUTE THE BOARD NEXT WEEK SO AS TO CONCLUDE THEIR PROMOTION.

What's the outcome of #30k minimum wage?.Rivers State can't pay 30k minimum wage till today. Edo,Lagos and many State have gone pass 30k,what most of them are doing now is 40k. Ebony and Imo just join the 40k States. Today, Rivers State is not thinking of paying above 18k minimum wage.
Kudos to the governor that increases wages because of election, aleast he shows hypocritical concern, let Rivers governor show same hypocritical concern too.

Did any of you listened to the NUT chairman's reasons for the 4k deduction on Nigeria info 92.3?.He said the money was to build NUT Secretariat,that they only me in a "bacha".

We should not border ourselves much in this whole thing, knowing fully well that we are not all that important in Rivers state.Teachers are the last regarded servants in the state.They are not the core civil servants. The core civil servants are those employed by the civil service commission. Remember teachers are not employed by the civil service commission and that is why during their(Teachers) employment in the state,it was contracted to a firm from Lagos.

Even when the state governor approved the promotion of civil servants,he said 4,000 civil servants by the civil service commission .Later the included other categories of civil servants which teachers belong and members of the promotion panel was innurgrated by the board.Let me take you back to when the promotion was approved.

This salary scale is OK for Rivers.

This fake rumors about promotion payment by month end has become a monthly routine. A source in the that that... said this or that, a reliable source said....., the nominal roll or voucher was prepared with new grade level,..... These lies keep repeating in this platform every month and some persons keep believing and getting disappointed at the receipt of their alert showing nothing different from the fixed salary, then a week after these same stories will be reintroduced.

The government is deliberately keeping mute about the issues of promotion and welfare of civil servants in the state, knowing that the various unions which are supposed to speak for the civil servants are almost dead, and the civil servants in their individual capacities are not using the social media to generate the noise that will get the attention of the government, some of the civil servants are party members and praise singers of the government in politics.

In the midst of the subsidy removal and it's attendant hardship, the state government is keeping mute about raising the salaries of civil servants in the state to cushion the impact of the subsidy removal; even the long overdue promotions, the government is not showing any seriousness. May God help civil servants in Rivers State.

Most teachers here are party members and praise singers. They see anything given to them as a favour they don't deserve. They are happy to see all the unions dead at the state level,but alive at the Federal. Most state with little revenue like Edo is doing alot.Lagos teachers are in another world when compare to Rivers.
