look at the pot calling the kettle black. Take the beam out of your own eye before acknowledging my splinter of a grammatical error which does not equate to lack of common sense but just quick typing Mr. Professor. ![]() |
@ geometry, I'm not sure if you realize this but divorce rates of Nigerians home AND abroad are steadily rising. No one (women I should probably say) is willing to suffer in silence anymore, ESPECIALLY if you grew up seeing your own mother being treated like horribly and stifling it all in the name of marriage. |
Wow @ abeg-abeg. You hit the nail right on the head. Educated illiterates indeed. Common sense isn't so common. |
I was just talking about this fruit again today with someone and it seems to go by alot of names depending on where you are from: soursop, guanabana, etc. I know it to be known as the custard apple as this is the genus that this fruit's family is from. Here is a source if anyone is interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Custard_apple |
Its name is custard apple. |
To papa-gee, My sole purpose when I am at church is to pray but while I am down here since this is the only real place I've been to meet people I was wondering if it was possible to meet anyone. So far I think not. |
To kind.way, Perhaps if I decide to live in Texas after this trip maybe that is what I will end up doing because I've noticed my auntie's church members are kind of cliquish although they are nice people. |
Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone has been successful finding friends/companions in church. I am not looking for a husband as I don't feel I am ready to take that step and am just working on myself. I don't want anything serious even though I make this known to guys and they get upset or don't understand. I would like to know if it is possible. Although I am not a devout member of any church as of yet, I am visiting my aunt and will be attending her church while I'm here in TX and would like to know if this is possible without seeming like I am looking for a boyfriend. Although I have female friends, I enjoy the company of guys and long for someone to be closer to and who knows what else. Thanks, Chinwe P.S. I say the church because I am staying with my aunt and her fam. and the only places I've been since I've landed was her church and prayer meetings so I won't be getting out much while I am here. Also I am under 30 years old, although I'm not sure if this matters. |
Hi all, I am presently visiting some family in Sugarland, TX and getting to know a bit of Texas though not much as I can't easily get around. I was just wondering for those who are nurses in TX, what is the job market here like for nurses, primarily new graduates? I'm from Jersey so I am just trying to keep my options open. Thanks, Chinwe |
No problem deltalife, I believe in sharing thats all. ![]() |
@InesQor, wow very intriguing and dare I sat it, true. |
Hi All, I was just discussing this topic with someone the other day and its interesting I saw this post so I've decided to give it ago. Firstly, as someone already mentioned no matter what you do whether it be shave, wax, use depilatory creams (veet, nair etc.) you are going to get razor bumps. This is because of the curly hair the curls back on itself as it grows, with black people. As someone already mentioned, it is a good idea to not really shave. I would suggest to trim as close as possible. Also if you do plan to shave for whatever reason, here are some helpful tips that most people neglect or don't do at all: 1. Don't shave during your shower. Reason: The hair is still hard and may not get cut by the blade well. Solution: shave AFTER your shower when hair is the softest. 2. Make sure to exfoliate the area whether it be through using soap/cleanser on a wash cloth or loofa, or using a skin scrub just make sure to exfoliate to get that top layer of skin that could also be hiding already ingrown hairs that need to be clipped. 3. Use a quality shaving cream, NOT drying bar soaps. This makes quite a difference in a close, clean and itch free shave than to not use it. If you know you are allergic to fragrances there are sensitive skin shaving creams that you can use. 4. If you don't have access to a new razor or if it is not time to change your blade, clean your razor with alcohol and let it air dry, thus killing the germs that may harbor on the blade that you may end up transferring on to your skin, which may cause bumps and possibly pimples. 5. If you use disposable razors use the ones meant for sensitive skin as our skin is sensitive because of the curly hair. You may ask how do you know if you are using a sensitive skin razor, well whatever brand you use whether it is Bic or another, they are usually the shaving stick with only one blade NOT two which can cut too close to the skin leaving the bumps as the hair grows. 6. Disposable razors are called disposable for a reason. Stop using your razors too long. Most people use theirs way too long and don't even rinse them with alcohol after use so of course you are just asking to get bumps. 7. When you shave, shave in the direction of the hair growth. If you are not sure the direction of your hair growth before you shave take some time to look at the area in question in see which way the hair is going as it grows out of the follicles. 8. When you shave, DON'T stretch the skin. This leads to too close a shave and can result in the dreaded bumps. 9. After you shave, make sure to use a solution that will act as an anticeptic since you've just manipulated the area with a blade. There are many on the market to choose from and their magic ingredients are usually acetylsalicilic acid or glycolic acid. This step can make or break in you in your quest to stay bump free and should NEVER be neglected. If you don't have the funds to buy these solutions or don't feel like using men's aftershave (which may help), or don't feel like spending the extra money (like yours truly, lol) I have a recipe for one that I use that works EXCELLENT as well as some tips to deal with the occassional bump if you should happen to get one. If you want the recipe pm me and it shall be granted to you. 10. Smile. Razor bumps are not as bad as they may seem as long as you follow the afformentioned steps you will be fine. ![]() I hope these help as many people as it has helped me over the years of needing to be hair free. Hi All, Well since this thread was resurrected, I will just like to leave an update. So far the studying has been going well and I am presently tutoring someone on the side so this also helps in the retention of information. I am still waiting for my ATT to register for my test date (it takes quite a while where I am) and will soon be getting my finger printing done. I can't wait to be done with the testing and find work but at the same time I can wait as I'm somewhat enjoying the process. Chinwe |

@toyecoach, I've become quite aware of this news but decided earlier on in my nursing education to pursue anesthesia or midwifery before I became aware of pay because this is where I think my strengths may lie. All I need is the experience to really determine where I fit. |
big dave; Well, a career goal of mine is to either 1.) work as a nurse anesthetist, as I enjoy the OR experience and don't think that I would just want to be a circulating nurse or scrub nurse or 2.) a nurse midwife with a specialty in holistic nursing and women's health as I'm attracted to women's issues as it relates to holistic health. I know that these choices are so different from each other but from just my clinical experiences as well as research that I have carried out in the two areas, I feel that these two will suit my niche. I also have a deep appreciation for fitness and wellness as I have a previous degree in exercise science and sports studies and am a personal trainer so I am still trying to put all of these together. This all brings me to the conclusion that I still need to whittle my final goal down although I feel I am close. I want to be in a fulfilling position and not just financially, otherwise I would have just gone on and been a PT after finishing a masters program for it after my first degree but instead I chose to go for more education to become a nurse to see if I could be more fulfilled. I realize that I may need to be a floor nurse for quite a while but I need to find a way to get through so that my goals I've set for myself are not in vain. So I guess what I would like to know is, where exactly do I fit to achieve this? Is it just to do med surg for 2 years and then enter masters or is there another way? Thanks, namazon |
Hi Alloy, It will not kill you as this is treatable. It takes time to get rid of so you have to be patient. I would suggest you starting with eating more raw vegetables because of the fiber content. You MUST start drinking more water ASAP. Not juice, not tea, but clear water. This is because you've probably been straining or passing hard stool which is what is causing your pile. If you continue to eat the way you are and not including fiber AND water (your body weight in ounces per day) you will not get rid of your piles and may end up with more that may even bleed. I suggest you try what I've stated and give it some weeks to reduce until it diminishes on its own. As a comfort measure I suggest you try using TUCKS pads or if you don't have access to them just take cotton soaked in witch hazel (available at drug stores, apothecaries, or even dollar markets) and apply them to the pile to reduce the swelling and irritation. You may find that this alone may alleviate the problem if you are consistent with the application. Also ice packs may help until your body heals and it goes down on its own. You will be fine and I wish you go health. Peace ![]() |

@Dave: I already have in mind what I want to do after I pass the boards this spring and that is to gain employment at a respectable hospital. I don't want to be chained to the bedside and I am striving to use other gifts I believe will enhance my life and career within nursing as well. To do this my goal is to work for 1.5 - 2 years MAX, then get my masters in anesthesia or midwifery, although I'm not sure if I will get my choice as to which area since I'm new. I am far aware of the humanitarian aspect, as that is the reason why I switched fields and acquired another degree to become an RN. My only qualm is administration and the milieu of nursing. There happens to be quite a bit of politics and it doesn't help that it is predominantly female dominated so there are enough problems there. I guess I just have to deal with the potential attitudes as I've been a tech/nurse's aid/unit clerk and have often bore the brunt of nurse's frustrations for whatever reason. I am hoping to build a thicker skin to withstand it because after all, it has taken me alot of time and resources and I would hate for a few choice people to ruin my experience by causing me frustration. I don't want to be going to work everyday with another reason to fear the plight of my license because I can't concentrate due to the amount of hateful horizontal voilence that nurses these days are exhibiting. In spite of this, I greatly look forward to finding my niche and making a difference in the health of others because that is just one of the many things that really makes me happy. ![]() |
Interestingly enough, besides the fact that coke (at least the full sugar and not the aspartame riddled one) does contain quite a bit of sugar, it also contains phosphoric acid which when the body breaks this down, the acidity the amoung of hydrogen ions available) of the blood increases (when it should be more neutral or slightly alkaline (ph about 7.2). To balance this out the free hydrogen ions end up binding with the minerals, which include calcium and magnesium. If they aren't in the blood, the body draws calcium out of the bones which leads to weaker bones over time and eventually breakage in susceptible people. Take home point: stop drinking coke or at least reduce your frequency of drinking this beverage. Reference: http://preventdisease.com/news/articles/soda_may_not_hurt_bones.shtml |
No problem Fogman, just be patient and take it one day at a time. ![]() |
Thank adetoru. I really need to treat myself. ![]() |
@adetoru: where else do you think I can get a nice gold chain as I have been looking for one for some time now. I wear small beads but I think the chains are very beautiful. |
I've had hair for 7 years and am never going back to the creamy crack. Nothing is appealing about scalp burns and running from the rain like I'm training for Olympic trials. |
I am glad to see this as I am preparing for my boards in May and haven't started working yet. I was just wondering as a new nurse where do they typically place us as I'm not too sure I want to start out doing medsurg but I was told this is best if you need critical care experience to prep for Masters. |

You have to understand that it is all about calorie intake. Calories in vs. calories out. If you are eating more than you are burning off, then you most likely will gain weight. If you are eating less you are burning off, you will lose weight. I guess the point is, you may need to need to track what you eat to begin with and make adjustments from there. Here are ways to go about this: 1. write down what you eat, including drinks, for about a week just to see what you eat on a daily basis. Be as honest as you can here as it is for your own benefit and no one else. 2. after this week of writing your food diary, see where you think you are eating too much and how you are eating. 3. if you pinpoint where you intake is too high, try and think of why, is it because a.) hadn't eaten enough the meal before b.) you were bored or c.) you were around people who encourage you to eat more etc. etc. 4. determine which foods are too calorie dense or processed and replace them with healthier substitutions 5. if you eat out of habit, as this may be the case with many, try to replace the food with other activity like exercise or even try another healthier food in ts place lie fruits, or vegetables. As long as you can figure out a way to make them more palatable for you as not everyone enjoys just plain salad. 6. try to drink more water because a lot of times when we think we are hungry, it is really because we are just thirsty. 7. lastly, be patient with your body. It will make the necessary weight adjustments if you are kind and patient with it. Best of luck with this, any more help needed pm me. ![]() |
