Can the Nigerian government just build bigger mines and factories for itself, loans and inflation won’t last forever they too need a source of revenue to maintain their size otherwise they won’t last, Nigeria isn’t China that can just rely on taxing all the money from its own civilians and receive billions they have very little and need to produce a lot |
When is healthcare and vaccines for tuberculosis HIV and malaria becoming more widely available, it’s getting aggrevating seeing folks constantly move elsewhere to receive treatment only to come back and wind up sick again for god knows what reasons even though the government spends so much on it |
Every year oil accounts for a smaller and smaller share in revenue made in this country not just for what businesses take in but also in exports In 2012 oil was 84% of the economy Today it’s 70% and if trends stay the same 30 years from now it’s gonna be in the 30s-40s range while manufacturing and medical equipment grows larger and larger How should Nigerians react to this change |
DubaiLandLord1:Yes didn’t you hear about the recent new station that was introduced like a few weeks ago, thing costed 12 trillion N |
If the government can connect every city in the country together why not expand its influence on foreign markets with railways from Cameroon to Senegal like what southern African countries did? |
He didn’t do Jack shit, infrastructure spending has only recently been proposed not by him but by ordinary mayors and corporations that want more roads rails and factories in order to function. Buhari spent his time aiding domestic terrorists and cracking down on protesters |
That’s a terrible idea, remember what happened in mail? Russians are better or even the best options let Nigeria deal with bokoharam and other terrorists as they’ve been declining in influence for years even without foreign support |
What should northerners expect now that they have competition and also opportunities to sell their goods to our neighbors and what about trade in mail and the rest of ECOWAS with the new infrastructure fund for rail energy and industry? |
Princedapace:I mean on the bright side the government did address these concerns and is ramping up infrastructure spending to prevent that now |
Haha they’re using cooking pots as helmets |
chloride6:Yes Why do you think the government buys so much machinery and factory equipment from China and the west? |
Well this is good news This means local farmers and fertilizer companies have incentives to produce more while the government now can cut costs allowing more funding to industry |
chloride6:Yes it’s over a quarter of the economy, we produce a lot of industrial goods like steel, fertilizers, concrete and tools to the point where sea craft is our second largest revenue producing asset |
Literally every country on the planet has trillions upon trillions of resources. It’s about countries that actually use them or sell them that causes such conflicts, besides oil is a dying sector of the Nigeria’s economy since the government has been raising funding for more infrastructure year after year allowing businesses to grow |
Who cares oil is becoming a diminishing portion of the Nigerian economy in general due to the recent massive investments in infrastructure and rail to other ECOWAS members. |
What Lagos is doing is reasonable They need money for tools like infrastructure factories and rails but other parts of Nigeria need that aswell and can’t benefit off being coastal like Lagos, it’s healthy for revenues to be diverted to neighbouring cities as it all comes back around when every state produces the revenue it needs to thrive and grow its industries |
If this was China this wouldn’t have even been reported. Oh well we’ll just have to deal with this as this is gonna happen more often due to the fact that the federal government ramped up spending a lot on infrastructure and rail systems to encourage business and generally grow the economy nationally. |
Can there be a filter to remove separatists threads. Ethnic separatism is fucking dead in this country and has been for a while because literally no one gives a shit about independence when people need a home to sleep in food and a job |
Jesus they really are spending a lot on infrastructure lately, and for good reasons props up businesses and generally increases labour productivity First there was the 37 billion power rail and infrastructure initiative Then the 3 billion housing boost Then the announcement private energy companies are looking into solar tech And now with this new rail line small businesses have opportunities to take in tax revenue for the government Things are looking good for the economy ![]() |
Literally no one in this country cares about separatism beyond lunatics and cultists. Most of us only want to pay for rent and food consistently |
kokoA:There’s a new vaccine ![]() |
JOemmy:Literally wrong the government budget on infrastructure raised to over 12.5 trillion N just a few days ago and education has been one of the largest govt expenditures for decades now |
From what I understand about that place it’s not really an economy but a massive commercial district the size of a country. To generate so much revenue you need industry and for that you need energy, even if they’re not directly making any revenue off energy it’s not unreasonable to state that the sheer amount of outsourcing and industry that place needs in order to manufacture the goods and the tools it’s service workers use to keep the state alive vastly outpaces whatever the hell it produces |
thebosstrevor1:Unemployment stats only account for documented workers vs the relation that can’t find any work The population of workers struggling to find a job is higher when the North is cut off from cities and factories the country needs to industrialize |
We’re a country of over 200 million and there’s only 62 million workers most of which are in the south that are expected to provide the needs of the whole country, how are we supposed to get the rest of the North productive and working instead of the endless conflicts going on up there |
Yeah the Nigerian government has been increasing expenditures on infrastructure overall and electricity is one of them. Makes sense why your neighborhood is seeing more electricity and overtime more power will be supplied at an increasing rate as time passes |
Okay but what’s the problem? All of you understand that are population would’ve been growing a lot even if we were growing at 1 million or 50 right? What’s important is industrializing to feed more people not being concerned about population control as populations always increase wether or not a country faces a fertility crisis |
Because it is strange A little less than half of us live in rual communities. We have the largest economy and population in Africa and a lot of ethnicities doing a lot of weird stuff We’ve only had a functioning government for 22 years. It’s reasonable to assume foreigners are gonna have mixed feelings about Nigeria |
That city is big extremely big 100s of kilometres big and based off population densities and when you account for migration and the fact that most of Lagoss population is young that means that that young population is gonna have kids while they’re still alive meaning that city is expected to quadruple in size from 21 million to 84 million easily becoming e largest city on the planet. How exactly do you guys think people will live in such a crowded environment, because I’ve never seen a city anywhere on the planet get that huge?
|
Well that’s good to hear and knowing the government has ramped up spending on infrastructure means shit like this is gonna happen more |
Because a increasing portion of us live in cities and likewise aren’t subjective to living in tribe communities like Ethiopia but as citizens in a city run by whichever mayor. Well only get less divided as time passes and more of Nigeria urbanizes especially since the government just jacked up expenditures on public infrastructure |
