Women's football began in Saudi Arabia in 2006. Many regional leagues and tournaments have been held since then. The Saudis decided to create a national league in 2020 and they decided to create a premier league (a new top division) in 2022. Many Nigerian players have played in Saudi Arabia since the creation of the league in 2020. These include Rita Chikwelu (who moved to Al-Shabab in 2023), Ashleigh Plumptre (who moved to Al-Ittihad in 2023), Macleans Chinonyerem (who moved to Al-Shabab in 2024) and Francisca Ordega (who joined Ashleigh at Al-Ittihad). |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELGucNh-XC4?si=AnGdvvorfL7b8EDz Oshoala was the highest goal scorer at Bay FC in her first season, but problems developed in her second season. Some former players and staff accused the coach of bullying players and staff. Many players left the club and the coach was twice placed under investigation. Oshoala created a social media post when the coach was found not guilty after the first investigation. She wrote: Waking up and feeling reluctant to show up to work because of a protected somebody is draining. She later deleted the post. As a result Oshoala did not play many games in her second season. When she played it was mainly as a substitute. Many Bay FC fans have gone to her farewell posts to apologise to her for the way that the coaches treated her. Bay FC played against Washington Spirit on Saturday the 23rd and Oshoala took these photos during the game (her last game with Bay FC). Monday Gift plays for Washington Spirit.
