If a passenger is not willing to or is unable to assist in case of an emergency, they will not be allowed to sit by the exit door. If they do not understand the language in which instructions will be given during an emergency, they are not allowed to sit by the exit door. Elderly Passenger Deplaned For Refusing To Comply With Instructions And Threatening Airline Staff
Michael Achimugu is the director of public affairs and consumer protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.
Michael Achimugu @mikeachimugu01
Earlier today, an elderly passenger whose seat selection happened to be by the exit door was asked by cabin crew to have their seat reassigned.
The passenger vehemently declined despite being made to understand the reasons why the switch had to be made. He threatened twice to slap the hostess.
As a result, the pilot called in airport security, including the Air Force, to remove the passenger. He (passenger) insisted on speaking with the NCAA Consumer Protection Officers on duty, and they were brought in to deescalate the situation.
The passenger was advised per the threats made and why he had to be deplaned.
The pilot insisted on not flying the passenger for safety reasons.
Airport security and NCAA officials have led him back to the terminal. He has understood the ramifications of his actions and has calmed down. He will be allowed to board the evening flight later today.
May I reiterate that the responsibility of deescalating potential altercation rests with both cabin crew and passenger, and it is not ideal to threaten or actually hit people aboard an aircraft.
If you are not satisfied with the quality of service you have received, kindly report to the NCAA Consumer Protection Department via cpd.ncaa.gov.ng, and a resolution will be reached.
Threats of violence against cabin crew are not acceptable.
Let us all ensure to keep our skies safe and allow other passengers to enjoy their flying experience.

Embraer is a Brazilian aircraft maker. They make airliners and they also make warplanes like the Super Tucano.
President Bola Tinubu announced that Embraer are setting up a service center in Nigeria, while Mr Allen Onyema announced that Air Peace is buying 21 planes from Embraer.
naptu2: I knew, many decades ago, that BASA means Bilateral Air Services Agreement. It is an agreement that is entered to between 2 nations to govern air services between the two countries.
For example, Nigeria and the United Kingdom could sign a BASA. This Basa would specify the number of times that Nigerian airlines can fly into the UK (frequencies), the airports they would fly into (landing rights/slots), etc. It would also specify the number of times that British airlines can fly into Nigeria, the airports they can fly into, etc.
BASAs usually work based on reciprocity.
Nigeria Airways and (later) Okada Air were the airlines that operated Nigeria's slots in the 1980s and 1990s.
There were concerns in the 1990s and 2000s that Nigeria had BASAs with a lot of countries, but no Nigerian airlines operated Nigeria's slots while airlines from the other countries operated their slots.
Another concern in the 2000s was America's "Open Skies" policy. Basically, America wanted to sign BASAs with other countries and these BASAs would guarantee that American airlines can fly into any airport in the other country. America would also allow the other country's airlines to fly into any airport in the US. This idea caused panic among Nigerian airlines because they were afraid that US airlines would steal domestic routes from them.
Our Chairman, Dr. Allen Onyema, joined President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s high-level delegation to Brazil, where historic steps were taken to deepen aviation relations between both nations.
From engagements with H.E. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Brazil’s First Lady, Rosângela da Silva, to strategic discussions with José Serrador, Vice President of Embraer, these interactions highlight Air Peace’s commitment to advancing Nigeria’s aviation sector and championing greater connectivity across continents.
Air Peace remains proud to play a pivotal role in the Lagos–São Paulo direct flight initiative, as Nigeria and Brazil open a new chapter in trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. 🇳🇬🤝🇧🇷

Allen Onyema, Chairman/CEO, Air Peace, speaking on the sidelines of the BASA Agreement between Nigeria and Brazil:
“For the aviation industry, we must commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for taking decisive steps that are truly advantageous for Nigeria and Nigerians. Brazil and Nigeria are the largest nations in their respective continents, and it has long been an aberration that there was no direct air connectivity between us until now.
This agreement will unlock new opportunities, create thousands of jobs, and deepen cultural and economic ties.
Air Peace is fully ready to play its part. We came here with a Boeing 777 aircraft to demonstrate our commitment and to show Mr. President that we are prepared to serve this route and strengthen the bridge between our two nations.”
