Babajide Sanwo-Olu @jidesanwoolu

Yesterday marked 25 years since the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, was established on July 15, 2000.

I want to congratulate everyone who has ever worn the LASTMA uniform, past and present. Your dedication, courage, and resilience have helped shape the agency into what it is today.

We owe the creation of LASTMA to the foresight of our then-Governor and now President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He understood, even then, that managing traffic in Lagos would require a homegrown solution. And so, LASTMA was created to keep our roads moving, to enforce order and open up new jobs for Lagosians.

It is worth noting that the current General Manager, Mr. Oki Bakare Olalekan, was part of the pioneer set of cadets who graduated 25 years ago. That is a full-circle moment and a testament to the strength of leadership and continuity within the agency.

LASTMA started with just 1,000 officers. Today, the agency has grown to over 4,000. States across Nigeria and even countries across Africa have come to study how we manage traffic here. It is something we should all be proud of.

To those who have led the agency before now, I thank you. To those who have served and paid the price, whether through injury or the ultimate sacrifice, we remember and honour you. Your efforts were not in vain.

As a government, we will continue to stand with LASTMA. You are critical to keeping Lagos moving, and your role will remain a priority as we build a better, safer, and more efficient city.

Thank you for 25 years of service.

Bayo Omoboriowo @BayoOmoboriowo

For 8 years, I served as President Muhammadu Buhari’s personal photographer. Through those years, he never interfered in my work—not once. He trusted me completely and gave me wings to fly. That kind of leadership and belief is rare. 🕊️🇳🇬

He gave me space to grow. He allowed me, a young Nigerian, to express myself fully—through the lens. He let me tell Nigeria’s story with truth and depth. In doing so, he helped me show what is possible when young people are given a chance.

When he passed, I knew I had to be there. I flew to London to capture his final moments—not just as his photographer, but as someone whose life he had impacted deeply. This was history. This was honor. And I had to document it one last time.

Thank you, President Buhari—for believing in me, for trusting me, and for giving me the platform to serve and grow. You are gone, but not forgotten.
Rest in perfect peace, sir.

It is NOT automatic to use the Presidential flag because he was a former president. It is a respect sort for and granted only by the incumbent as part of a state funeral. It is on that ground that I concede to its use to drape the coffin. That shade of green is completely off, and challenges it use as the Presidential flag
It all boils down to the fact that President Buhari was a former president, presidential protocols apply to the deceased at presidential funerals (the pall bearers are generals, they have a military funeral with 21 gun salute, etc. Did you see the ambulance that brought his body? It had bodyguards walking beside it as if a living president was in it).

Bottomline, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it, whether you concede or not.

Isn’t the presidential standard for the exclusive use of the President? Is it used by anyone else?
Exactly and President Buhari was president.

Unbelievable. Completely UNBELIEVABLE! The remains of a Nigerian General and Former head of state draped with the incorrect flag? What the hwll is that “flag” with the Coat of Arms doing there?!?!
trespas:
@Jubrilgawat once schooled us on the correct Nigerian flag. He said there is no symbol on the flag however yesterday at the interment of the late president Buhari I observed a flag with the coat of arms engraved on it which hot to to ask. @Jubrilgawat kindly elucidate.
Go and research the Nigerian Presidential Standard.

(Note: in case you see it, I am not referring to the Flag of the Commander in Chief, I am referring to the Presidential Flag).
