PoliticsRe: Throwback Photos Of Comrade Shehu Sani During The Struggle For Democracy by naptu2(op): 7:14pm On Jun 12, 2025
I am so happy that Mrs Ayo Obe is finally being recognised.

johnie:
Thanks for sharing Naptu2.

Comrade Shehu Sani is among the recipients of national honours announced earlier today.

I am very happy that at last the he and the following people whose sacrifices had/were gradually being forgotten are at last honoured:

Alao Aka Bashorun - NBA President who used the platform to fight the military government and had to flee the country at a time

Ayo Obe - President of the Civil Liberties Organisation and in my opinion she was the first lady of the movement. I used to wonder what a "lady" like her was doing in the movement!

Chima Ubani - through and through democracy activist and later Executive Director of CLO who later died at the age of 43 in a car crash soon after restoration of civilian government. He died on his way back from a rally in Maiduguri to protest the incessant hike in the prices of Petroleum Products. This post (https://www.nairaland.com/1938/chima-ubanis-death-unfortunate-incident) on Nairaland about his death did not go beyond the first page and probably did not make front page.

Bagauda Kaltho - Journalist. Erroneously linked to a bombing incident on January 18 1996 at the Durbar Hotel, Kaduna. The miliitary government's Special Task Force on Terrorist Activities ininuated that the body of someone found at the site of the blast was that of Kaltho, on assignment to destabilise the military regime,

Festus Iyayi - Was ASUU president and use that platform to fight the military

Gambo Sawaba - not as educated as the others on this list but was a defiant force, powerful mobiliser and loud voice of the movement

Bamidele Aturu - During his NYSC programme, refused an award of the best corps member of the NYSC 1987/88 batch because he didn’t want to shake hands of the military administrator of Niger State, Lawan Gwadabe, in protest against military rule. I believe was sanctioned by NYSC for this.

Emma Ezeazu - former NAN President and also former secretary of CLO

Shehu Sani @ShehuSani

June 12: Recently,I paid a visit to Aba Prison, Abia State where I served 4 years out of my 15 year sentence for treason during the Abacha years. That was after being transferred from Kiri Kiri and Port Harcourt prisons.

My case mate was late Dr Beko Kuti among others. My contact with the outside world was Uba Sani who was also later arrested and lost contact.

Some of the historical personalities who were once detained in Aba Prison were Major Kaduna Nzeogwu and his Coupists colleagues.

The picture on the left was shot in 1995,by a prison staff who is now retired.

My eternal appreciation to Mrs Theresa Okoko and other prison staff for their kindness even though there were some brutal ones.

To God be Za glory.

Comrade Abiyos Roni @AbbaM_Abiyo

The list is incomplete without mentioning Senator @ShehuSani who languished in prison because of the June 12 struggle.

We must honor the sacrifices of the great people like the MKO Abiola who paid the huge sacrifice and others like Col Dangiwa Umar, Senator Shehu Sani, late Shehu Musa Yar’adua, Sule Lamido and others.

Truly comrade Shehu Sani has long been in the political struggle…🥲🙌🏻

This whole thing is not adding up. He arrived the US on April 30 so how did he overstay? Besides, he left voluntarily, according to the article so he wasn't exactly deported.

Wo, make una no confuse person jare
The reason they are confused is because he was arrested by ICE (Immigration, Customs Enforcement).

He was arrested by ICE, but instead of deporting him he voluntarily agreed to leave.

6 and final)

The problem here is that the airport is in the middle of the city and therefore the approach is very steep (in order to avoid the high rise buildings). The runway is also pretty short, but jets are allowed to land here. The approach is so difficult that only the pilot in command is allowed to land planes here and he must have a certain level of experience.

5) This airport is a beach (or should I say this beach is an airport? ). It's a tidal beach and sometimes the runways are underwater. Only STOL propeller planes are allowed to land here.

It is in Scotland.

4) Maho Beach is right at the beginning of the runway. Some people do the "Jet Blast Challenge". That is, they stand on the beach as a plane is about to land or take off and see if they can resist the force of the jet blast (many people are usually blown away by the jet stream).

Some bars, restaurants and cafe's on the island display the flight schedules, so that tourists and plane spotters can go to the beach to watch the planes as they land and take off.

Unfortunately people have died on this beach. Some people have hit their heads and died after being pushed by the jet blast, while others have been pushed into the sea and drowned.

Saint Marteen is a tiny island in the Caribbeans and part of it is controlled by France and the other part by the Netherlands. This beach is in the Netherlands section of the island.

3) This runway is longer than the previous runways in this series and jets are allowed to land here, but it's still a pretty short runway and it is unique because a highway cuts right through the runway and cars have to be stopped by a barrier whenever a plane wants to land or take off (like a railway level crossing).

This is Gibraltar Airport.

TravelRe: 6 Unusual Airports From Around The World. by naptu2(op):
2) This is one of the smallest and most dangerous airports in the world. It's the airport that leads to the base camp for people that want to climb Mount Everest. Jets are not allowed to land at the airport, only STOL propeller planes and helicopters.

A pilot said that the most dangerous thing about the airport is not how short the runway is, rather it is the very tall mountains that surround it.

The airport is officially named after Sir Edmund Hillary (the first person to get to the top of Mount Everest) and Tenzing Norgay (his local guide), but it is also known as. . .

Lukla Airport.

1) This is the smallest airport in the world and it has the shortest runway. The runway is actually shorter than the runways on some aircraft carriers. Jets are not allowed to land or take off from this airport, only STOL propeller planes.

This is Saba Airport.

Its official name is the Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport.

(Saba is a small island in the Caribbeans and it is controlled by the Netherlands).
