RED LINE: Special Guest of Honour, the Ekiti State Governor @biodunaoyebanji today joined his Lagos State counterpart @jidesanwoolu to officially flag off the Oyingbo overpass bridge.
The Oyingbo bridge has the following features:
1. The bridge is T-Shaped 2. It is 717 metres in length 3. Connects Murtala Muhammed Way to Apapa Road to provide access to Costain, Iganmu Industrial area, and Lagos Badagry Expressway. It also provides access to Herbert Macaulay Way and Third Mainland Bridge; Otto towards Carter Bridge and Ijora. 4. It separates vehicular/pedestrian traffic front rail traffic 5. And it eliminates accidents associated at railway level crossing.
This bridge, along with others, including the Yaba overpass bridge, the Pen Cinema Bridge, Yaba bridge, Mushin bridge, and Ikeja are built for the convenience of passengers and other Lagosians as we roll out the Red Line Train in not too distant time.
Verily, the Greater Lagos promised by Governor @jidesanwoolu - @drobafemihamzat administration is rising.

Flash: Arrival of Governor @jidesanwoolu in company of the Governor of Ekiti State @biodunaoyebanji at the commissioning of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Oyingbo overpass bridge in Oyingbo.
“The commissioning of this massive infrastructure project speaks to what is possible when you have a thinking leadership and a government that works with a vision at the helm. We have seen Lagos evolve to become a great city under the grand vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who laid the foundation for the development initiatives being implemented by his successors in Lagos.
“Ekiti State has a lot to learn from Lagos in terms of creating a practicable development vision that will be passed on to successive administration. This is the first time, in several years, which Ekiti is witnessing unbroken transition to Government by same political party. Ekiti is toeing the same path, as we are committed to build on the foundation laid by my predecessor.”
Governor @biodunaoyebanji of Ekiti State today at the commissioning of the Oyingbo Flyover Project, in preparation for the Red Line Rail Project
The final two months of the year will bring a wave of completed projects and initiatives that represent our commitment to improving the lives of Lagosians.
Today, I commissioned the Oyingbo Bridge, a significant step in our journey towards completing and opening the Red Line Rail project.
The Oyingbo Bridge is a remarkable T-shaped structure, stretching 717 meters in length. It connects key areas of Lagos, enhancing accessibility and safety.
A big thank you to the Governor of Ekiti state, H.E Biodun Oyebanji, who joined me today in the commissioning.
This bridge links Murtala Muhammed Way to Apapa Road, offering access to Costain, Iganmu Industrial Area, Lagos Badagry Expressway, Herbert Macaulay Way, Third Mainland Bridge, Otto, Carter Bridge, and Ijora.
Not only does the Oyingbo Bridge improve traffic flow, but it also enhances safety by separating vehicular/pedestrian traffic from rail traffic, reducing accidents at railway level crossings.
From infrastructure to education, we're determined to keep Lagos moving forward, and these projects commissioned are just the beginning.
Your support and patience are greatly appreciated.
seborrhic: Naptu, why would u use the word "SEEMS"? It's clearly abandoned and unused. Infact, what is left is for abokis that deal in scraps to be made aware of this site for them to come buy the parts as scraps.
I didn't use that word. In fact, in my post about it (further below that one) I wrote that is has been abandoned. The post you quoted was taken from another website (you can see the link below it).
GanagiBitrus: See a Oyibo naked inside office because of AC wey no dey work.
Do you know that you reason better & more productive in an Air-Conditioned office? Maybe that is the reason we are less productive in this part of the world.
That would then be the fault of the Americans. Go back and read that post (the anti-spam bot banned me before I could write it). That earth station wasn't Nigerian owned. It's not Lanlate. That was the earth station that was built by the American NASA in Kano.
NITEL: Reps probe sale, abandonment of earth satellite station in Oyo
By Levinus Nwabughiogu-Abuja November 18, 2021
House of Representatives, Wednesday, mandated its Committees on Telecommunications and Privatisation and Commercialisation to investigate the sale and abandonment of the eart satellite station at Lanlate in Oyo State.
The station belonged to the privatized Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL).
Considering a motion on the matter presented by Hon. Oluyemi Adewale Taiwo at the plenary, the expressed worry that the abandonment of the station has rendered the equipment obsolete.
“Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL) was a monopoly service provider in Nigeria until 1992 when the Federal Government enacted the Nigerian Communications Commission Act, allowing new entrants into the Communications sector.
“NITEL has contributed immensely to the development of the sector in many ways as it seconded several pioneer staff to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Digital Bridge Institute.
“NATCOM acquired all assets owned by NITEL and its mobile arm, Mobile Telecommunications (MTEL), thus ending a decade of trickery over the resale of the company.
“Since the Privatization of NITEL in Lanlate, Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo State, the infrastructure has been abandoned thus becoming obsolete with many of its equipment rendered useless”, Hon. Adewale explained while presenting the motion.
Adopting the motion, the House gave the Committee 2 weeks to carry out the assignment and report back to it for further legislative action.
The earth station at Lanlate is not the first earth station in Nigeria.
The first earth station in Africa was set up in Kano in 1961 by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) of the United States. In the mid-1960s, NASA used a network of communication bases around the world to track spacecraft during various missions of the Gemini program. One of these stations was located in Kano, Nigeria. Here are pictures of that earth station.
The Post and Telegraph Department (P&T) later the Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (Nitel) used the earth station to transmit telephone calls via satellite.
P&T/Nitel was a member of INTELSAT. Originally formed as International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (ITSO, or INTELSAT), from 1964 to 2001, it was an intergovernmental consortium owning and managing a constellation of communications satellites providing international telecommunications and broadcast services.
P&T/Nitel was also a member of INMARSAT. The International Maritime Satellite Organization (INMARSAT) was a non-profit intergovernmental organisation established in 1979 at the behest of the International Maritime Organization (IMO)—the United Nations maritime body—and pursuant to the Convention on the International Maritime Satellite Organization, signed by 28 countries in 1976.
The earth station was also used to transmit television signals. I had a relative that worked at P&T/Nitel and any time that Nigeria hosted a major event, like the 1980 Nations Cup, she would say that P&T gave the NTA the frequency that they were transmitting on. There was no NCC or NBC at that time, so the Ministry of Communications along with the P&T regulated radio frequencies.
She would sometimes say the same thing when the NTA showed international events live, like the 1985 Under 16 World Championships, and we would argue that the NTA was receiving signals, not transmitting.
Today many private organisations are able to transmit by satellite without going through Lanlate and almost everybody has a satellite dish at home. The earth station at Lanlate has been abandoned.
Lanlate I Satellite Earth Station was Nigeria’s first international satellite telecommunications gateway to the outside world.
It became operational in March 1971 with one antenna (Lanlate I) tracking the Indian Ocean INTELSTAT satellite. A second antenna called Lanlate II was added in December 1975. This one operates with the Atlantic Ocean satellite.
Is it mental laziness or an inability to comprehend simple texts? Did these people attend any schools?
I wrote that there were controversies in 2006 and 2010 when the Navy requested for a presidential yacht and none was bought. I wrote that we have not had a presidential yacht since the Amaria was decommissioned a long time ago. I wrote that this is the third time that we are witnessing the controversy. I was even more specific about the 2010 controversy and wrote that the government rejected the request and President Jonathan reviewed the fleet from a Shaldag MK II and I posted a picture of the boat with SBS commandos on rafts guarding the president, yet people who can't read or comprehend anything are saying that I didn't write about it?
Has Nairaland gotten so bad?
No wonder people like wittywriter and OkpaNsukkaisBae are commenting on threads without even reading the first post. How can you make a reasonable and meaningful comment when you don't even know what you are responding to?
I am sure that these people don't even know what my thread was about!
Guyman01: Naptu2 Contrary to your deliberate attempts to distort facts, we can see that the N3.3B was never approved by GEJ to buy Presidential Yatch, you decided to distort history by trying to use Nnamdi Azikiwe et al to promote an anomaly. Shame!
Reading must be difficult for you.
naptu2: The Nigerian Navy held an international fleet review in 2010 to mark the 50th anniversary of Nigeria. It had asked for money to buy a presidential yacht, but this caused controversy in the media and the government was roundly criticised. Therefore, no presidential yacht was bought. Instead President Jonathan reviewed the fleet from a Shaldag MK II patrol boat of the Nigerian Navy. You can see the boat (guarded by SBS commandoes in rafts) in the first picture below.
naptu2: The Navy has made this request several times since Year 2000 and it leads to controversy every time
emmyN: naptu2, why did you not supply us with this information in your thread about the yatch? Did you forget?
