So he threw the gun down. But the "grainy" CCTV image sees him walk immediately off site, and away. So at what point did he go back for the rifle to go and hide it in the woods, carefully wrapped up in a towel.

The FBI is saying he undid the rifle, and conveyed it in the bag he was holding. Except this is a Mauser 98 rifle that requires a tool to undo. And according to ballistic experts familiar with the rifle, minimum 5 mins is required for this.

The question then is how's he then managed about 5 minutes after the shooting, undoing the rifle to put in his bag? The CCTV evidence shows this didn't happen. He ran seconds after after the shot.

Secondly, if the above is true, why did he then go to the woods to fully re-assemble the rifle, and then leave it in the woods for law enforcement to find?

This is a heavily-covered University CCTV-wise, but no single CCTV image captures him with said rifle going to the roof. Instead, they had to rely on AI generated image to identify him.

Seconds after shot is fired, CCTV captures him running and jumping off the roof, but not with said rifle. For reference, reported rifle is a Mauser 98 - 4-feet long.

He flees the scene and suddenly said rifle appears in the woods wrapped with a towel.
