I think most Chelsea fans are not imagining a Chelsea side without an available Caicedo for an extended period. We take this stuff for granted.

We have over reliance on Caicedo and we don't protect him enough. We want to run him into the ground before we have options. In today's yahoo market, Caicedo is worth close to £200m. £160m is not too much money to pay for quality midfield options and protection for Caicedo playing too many games.

If Caicedo breaks down, we cannot even replace him with £300m. There is no one on the market like him.

I am Lavia's biggest stan. I believe a 100% fit Lavia would be magic, and something that has yet to unfold. But I also agree with the sentiment that we cannot sacrifice our season on the anticipation of a fit Lavia. He could well get injured again and be out for 6 months.

Now you are lol..ing at Alonso with 3 in midfield . Remember I indicated early on the he will definitively set up with 3ATB and you weren't convinced. Well... even Alonso himself admits that he could playing 3 in midfield. So this is a good thing all round. Tactical flexibility.

The main reason why it must be two midfielders is if we run into a major problem playing with 3ATB against quality opposition, and we need to go with a 4-3-3 or 4-2-1-3.

Now imagine having to do that but no Caicedo. We have no midfielders. Lavia is barely match fit for 90 mins. Henderson is senior man and Barcola is too slight to marshall any midfield by himself.

The rest are kids in Watson and Jazuli.

Trust me, even you would like to see a midfield 3 and forward 3 of......

Is he though? While the eye test might give an illusion of not being rapid or explosive, the data suggests otherwise.

He's in the 99th percentile of PL midfielders with successful take-ons, even though volume of take-ons are not on the level of say a Kimmich. That's mostly a reflection of the profile of the team he plays for.

He also attempts more through passes per 90 than Guimares, Caicedo, Rice and Mainoo.

In the PL, these are crucial stats from a deep-lying midfielder. You will not get the time on the ball to accrue such numbers if one was slow.

I think he's not rapid or explosive, but he's intelligent, composed, quick at execution and has an elite level ability of space interpretation and exploitation.
