The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Police has arrested 15 Nigerians for their alleged involvement in embezzlement of money using an American military woman’s fake Facebook ID.

They were arrested from Pallabi in Dhaka on Thursday. Nine laptops, 22 mobile phones and five account diaries used in the scam were seized.

The arrested are Nzubechukwu Eugene Dara, 30, Chuawuma John Okechukwu, 40, Uchenna Damian Emesiani, 30, Chisom Anthonoy Ekwenze, 35, Simon Ifechukwude Okafor, 30, Henry Osita Okechukwu, 31, Ifeanyi Johnpaul Chinweze, 32, Okeke Peter, 32, Emeka Donatus, 48, Gozie Onyedo, 47, Peter Chika Akpu, 48, Obinna Sunday, 40, Nwanna Young, 34, Jeremiah Chukwudi Ezeobi, 34, and Stephen Ozioma Obiakoeze, 34.

OPERATION ENGULF Three Nigerian men become first in Irish history to be charged over alleged ‘romance fraud’ scam

THREE Nigerian men have become the first people in the State’s history to be charged over an alleged ‘romance fraud’ scam.

The trio were arrested by the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau in Dublin, Navan and Drogheda.

Rasak Sanni Sadu, Omawale Olamide Owalabi and Samson Ajayi, all originally from Nigeria and aged between 29 and 32, were lifted last Monday as part of Operation Engulf.

They were quizzed before being brought to Dublin District Court yesterday morning charged with a series of suspected fraud offences.

The alleged offences are believed to have been committed between October 2019 and April of this year.

Sadu has been charged with the theft of €35,000 and two counts of money laundering.

DUBLIN WOMAN'S COMPLAINT
One of the money laundering charges relates to the alleged conversion of stolen property into a €25,000 Rolex watch.

The other two defendants have each been charged with three counts of money laundering.

CHICAGO (AP) — A Nigerian national appeared in federal court in Chicago Friday accused of orchestrating an international cyber fraud scheme that federal prosecutors say defrauded U.S. businesses in six states out of tens of millions of dollars.

Olalekan Jacob Ponle, 29, originally of Lagos, Nigeria, was arrested last month in the United Arab Emirates, where he was living, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office in Chicago. He was expelled from the country and into FBI custody, and arrived in Chicago Thursday night. He appeared in court Friday morning to face a charge of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

Two Nigerian men have been arrested for allegedly scamming a German state that tried to buy 2.3m euros (£2m) of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Nigerian police say they cloned the website of a Dutch company to obtain an order from the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

When the PPE didn't show up, a state government representative visited the company's offices in the Netherlands.

The company then informed him that they had never done business with him.

The representative notified the Dutch police and investigations led to Nigeria where the two suspects were arrested in the commercial capital, Lagos. They are due to appear in court soon.

The suspects, Babatunde Adesanya and Akinpelu Hassan Abass, were members of a "sophisticated transnational criminal network", Nigerian police said in a statement.

The pair allegedly cloned the corporate website of ILBN Holdings BV in order to carry out the scam on Freiherr Fredrick Von Hahn, who represented North Rhine-Westphalia. The PPE was needed for the battle against coronavirus.

Two more arrests have also been made in the Netherlands.
