CrimeI Didn’t Kill My Wife, Shonde Husband Tells Court by nedufantasy(op): 2:58pm On May 20, 2016
Suspected wife-killer Lekan Shonde Friday told an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court that he was innocent of his wife Ronke’s death.

Dockworker Shonde was docked by the police before Chief Magistrate O. A. Adelaja following Ronke’s death at their Egbeda, Lagos home on May 5.

In a temporary charge with number D/30/2016, the suspect, who was brought around 11:30 am sporting a cream coloured combat shorts, was accused of beating his wife to death with his fist.

The charge reads: “That you Shonde Olalekan, on May 5, 2016, at about 2030 hours at No. 3, Tiemo Street, Egbeda, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did kill one Ronke Shonde, ‘F’ age 37, by giving her fist blow on her head, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.”

When he was asked if he understood the charge, Shonde asked for the last paragraph to be re-read, after which he replied, “I didn’t kill her.”

Prosecuting counsel Inspector Chinalu Uwadione applied that the suspect be remanded in prison custody “to enable us send the case to the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.”

This was not opposed by defence counsel Mr. I. V. Mohammed, and Chief Magistrate Adelaja upheld Uwadione’s prayer.

“The offence is a capital offence and the defendant is to be remanded in prison custody pursuant to Section 264 (1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law ((ACJL) 2011.
“The prosecutor should forward the case file to the DPP’s advice. The case is adjourned till June 24, 2016,” the court held.

PoliticsI Fully Support Buhari, But Not A Sycophant- Shehu Sanni by nedufantasy(op): 1:10pm On May 20, 2016
Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial district, Sen. Sani Shehu, has ridiculed the threat by the Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to expel him from the party, noting that although he is a hundred percent supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari, he will always air his opinion on issues in the country.

The party had on Thursday accused Sani of anti-party conduct for criticizing the new price of fuel introduced by the federal government last week, which jacked up the pump price of the product from N86 to N145 per litre. Reacting to the threat on Friday through his Special Adviser on Politics and Ideology, Suleiman Ahmed, the senator described the party’s threat as mere hallucination. Sani said although he remained “one hundred percent a supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari, but he is neither a sycophant nor a hypocrite who will not speak his mind when there is the need to do so.”

He alleged that the state APC is a tool in hand of the Governor Nasir El-Rufai-led Kaduna government. He said, “It will be interesting for the general public to know that even the so-called state headquarters of the APC is a building owned by a top PDP chieftain in the state.” “The press conference and threat of expulsion made by one Tanko Wusono of Kaduna APC against comrade Senator Shehu Sani for objecting to the increase in pump price of petroleum products stands unambiguously condemned.
Kaduna APC as it exists today is simply an extension of El-Rufai’s government.”

PoliticsRe: Top Contestants For Edo State Governorship ELECTION by nedufantasy(op): 11:08am On May 20, 2016
7. MATHEW IDOURIYEKEMWEN

Mathew Idouriyekemwen, a former majority leader, Edo state house of Assembly, was also Edo state commissioner in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC. His ambition and acceptability cut across the three senatorial districts. He has the support of the youths and prominent party leaders like former minister of Works Architect Mike Onoleimemen.

8. SENATOR UZAMARE

Ehigie Uzamare, a two time senator, he dumped PDP for APC, where he rode to victory on the back of Oshomole. He was quoted that PDP ticket is as worthless as a Zimbabwen dollar then. But as a typical Nigerian politician he went back to PDP. His chances are very slim because he is said not to be trustworthy.

9. EARL OSARO ONAIWU

Osaro Onaiwu was the director general of the governor’s forum in Nigeria. He later became the DG of the PDP governors forum during a split in the forum. He has promised to bring to Edo state what he lend to other governors as the Director General of the Governors forum. Onaiwu is also backed by the PDP Governors forum.

10. KENNETH IMASUAGBON

Barrister Kenneth Imasuagbon, popularly known as “Rice man”, Imasuagbon who has demonstrated his love for and desire to bring succor to the needy in the state through his annual rice distribution and other forms of philanthropy. He has dumped the PDP where he has contested many times under it but was denied the ticket, Imasuagbon is believed to be in APC to try his luck again this time.

PoliticsRe: Top Contestants For Edo State Governorship ELECTION by nedufantasy(op): 11:04am On May 20, 2016
4. General CHARLES ARHIAVWERE

Retired Army General and former governorship candidate of the PDP, he is believed to have dumped the party where he has lost all relevance, with the hope that he could still make it as the governor of the state under APC.

5. CHIEF SOLOMON EDEBIRI

Edebiri contested the 2012 governorship election on the platform of ANPP and came third. He led the ANPP group into merger with the ACN and CPC to form the APC. He later joined the PDP in 2014 after complaining of Marginilization by the ACN group whom he accused of running a one man show in the APC. Edebiri is generally seen as a light weight politician who many say is not equal to the task of tackling the ruling APC and had no political structures that can win him the ticket, but this may be the greatest undoing of those who underrate him in the contest.

6. Professor OSAHIEMEN OSUNBOR

Osunbor, a professor of law and former governor who was removed by the state elections petition tribunal when it restored the misplaced mandate to Oshomole, he was once described by governor Oshomole as a good man in the wrong party. Perhaps he might be going back to the Dennis Osadebe government house.

PoliticsTop Contestants For Edo State Governorship ELECTION by nedufantasy(op): 11:02am On May 20, 2016
On the 10th of September the people of Edo state will be going to the various polling centre in their various locality to elect the person who will succeed the incumbent Governor Adams Oshomole whose tenure will come to an end on the 12th of November 2016. With this we bring to you the top contestants for the race to sit in the Dennis Osadebe government house Benin City come November.

1. PASTOR OSAGIE IZE-IYAMU

Osagie is a man who is believed to be popular and active politician after Oshiomole in Edo state today. He hails from Orhionmwon local Government Area, he was also a chief of staff and secretary to Edo state government during the lucky Igbenedions 8yrs administration. The Redeemed church pastor is already seen by many people as the PDP governorship candidate. He also has political structure within the 18 local government areas of the state.

2. Dr PIUS ODUBU

Pius Odubu is the current deputy Governor currently in a fend with the state Governor Comrade Adams Oshiomole. The friction between the two men is said to have started when Odubu went ahead to contest the election after the boss brought out Obaseki as his candidate. Many candidates like Ogie Osarodion backed down their ambitions for Obaseki but Odubu didn’t. many believe if the APC national leadership fails to resolve this disagreement it might cost them the election.
3. GODWIN OBASEKI

Godwin Obaseki, the rumored favoured candidate being supported by the incumbent Governor is gradually being seen as the next Governor of the state. Obaseki’s emergence in the Governorship race came as a surprise to many due to the fact that he is seen as a technocrat and not a politician. He is also alleged to be backed by African richest man Aliko Dangote who is also a good friend of the state governor.

However, his invitees later turned against him and killed him. They made Ilorin part of the Sokoto caliphate, from where they made advances southwards and in 1937, captured the entire Oyo empire (Ibid). this development marked the collapse of the Oyo empire.

SportsNigerian Hurdler Breaks 33year Old Record, Qualifies For Rio Olympics by nedufantasy(op): 7:19pm On May 02, 2016
Without an iota of doubt, Tobi Amusan’s outstanding peformance in the 2016 season is set to continue, following her latest feat, which saw the UTEP freshman breaking her school’s 33-year old record at their senior day Spring Invitational on Saturday, April 30th.

The African Games 100m Hurdles Champion broke the 13s barrier for the first time in her career, clocking a wind legal Personal Best (PB) of 12.83s to win ahead of Bridgette Owens, and qualify for the forthcoming Olympic Games, surpassing the entry standard of 13.00s.

Her time is 0.12s faster than former school record holder Kim Turner’s 12.95s set in 1983, and is currently ranked No 2 on the NCAA list, just behind University of Michigan’s Cindy Ofili (12.66s), and is currently on the Top 10 world list.

At Junior level, her time is the second fastest EVER, tops the 2016 list and is now the Nigerian/African Junior Record.

Speaking to El Paso Times after her race, Amusan said: “It was a really nice race and my plan was just to get out of the blocks. When I first looked at the scoreboard and it said 13.3s I was very mad, but then when the official results popped up and said 12.83s, I said YES!!!

“It is really a privilege to run sub 13s and it is great to see my goal come true that I have been training for over the past year.”

A few hours later, the reigning African Junior Champion proved what a speedster she is as she came back to win the 200m in an impressive 23.24s, which is now ranked No 1 in C-USA.

“I know I have good speed and know that I am capable of running a sub-23s 200m dash, but a 23.2 is not a bad start,” she said after running her first 200m dash in over two and a half years.

With Amusan’s form that has seen her win most of her races (indoor and outdoor) this season, including once running the 4th fastest time in the world, she is definitely one to keep an eye on as a medal prospect at the NCAA Championships, World Juniors and probably the Olympics this year.

Amusan was not the only Nigerian in winning form in El Paso; her teammate Florence Uwakwe clocked a Season’s Best (SB) of 53.13s to take the 400m GOLD, while African Juniors Heptathlon Champion Rebecca Osinbajo raced to a PB of 25.50s in the 200m.

Another notable performance by a Nigerian athlete during the weekend was Stephen Mozia’s double win in both the Shot Put and Discus events with throws of 20.55m and 49.40m respectively at a meet in Athens, Georgia.

Adekunle Fasasi was a member of the University of Florida’s quartet that won GOLD in the College Men’s 4×400 Championship of America Invitational at the Penn Relays, clocking a time of 3:04.78 to finish ahead of Tennessee (3:07.75) and G.C. Foster (3:08.19).

Meanwhile Doreen Amata cleared the height of 1.85m to place joint 2nd with Maya Pressley and World Indoor Champion, Vashti Cunningham of USA at the Drake Relays. The event, which was competed indoors due to bad weather, saw Lavern Spencer of St. Lucia equal her National Indoor Record of 1.95m to win the event.

In case of boar hunting, it is safer to beat around the bush to avoid attack, or whack a nest of bees which will bring the hunting to halt.

A smart horse trader or buyer could get all the information he needed from the horses mouth. That is directly without the “truth” from anyone else.

A scapegoat was originally a goat driven off into the wilderness as part of the ceremonies of the Day of Atonement in Judaism. CultureThe Four Myths Of Yoruba Origin by nedufantasy(op): 6:24pm On Apr 26, 2016
The Yoruba people in Nigeria as we all know inhabit the six south western states of Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun,Ondo, Osun and Oyo states. Kwara state and some parts of Kogi are also dominated by the yorubas.
The traditions of Origin of the Yoruba people are shrouded in myths and legend which includes the following

1.  One version has it that Olodumare (the supreme God) dropped Oduduwa at Ile-Ife from heaven, from where his descendants dispersed to other parts of the world. This account presents Ile-ife as the centre of creation and dispersion of the world.

2.  Sequel to the first account that I have just expressed above, another account explains that mans creation took place at Ile-ife. According to this account, the earth was covered with water at that time, and God dispatched his messengers to go and create a farmland out of this water. God therefore sent Obatala (Orisa Nla) and a group of other messengers with five pieces of iron, a lump of earth tied in a white piece of cloth and a cockerel. On their way, their leader Obatala was said to have got himself drunk, and another servant of God, Oduduwa, took over from Obatala and executed Gods instructions to create earth and man. Oduduwa descendants dispersed to other parts of the world from this point.

3.  The third account dew inspiration from the linguistic theory. This account categorizes the Yoruba peopleand language to be among the kwa Sub-family of languages. This means that they migrated from the Niger|Benue confluence region and settled in their present location.

4.  The last version of the tradition of origin of the Yoruba people enumerated that Yoruba people migrated from the north eastern area of Africa (supposed) Egypt, Yemen, ancient Meroe and Arabia and settled at Ile-ife.

It is pertinent to note that much as there are variations in accounts of origin of the Yoruba, one significant thing in these accounts is the recognition of Oduduwa as the progenitor of the Yoruba people.

Education10 Things You Need To Know About The Trans-atlantic Slave Trade by nedufantasy(op): 7:41pm On Apr 24, 2016
Slavery according to English oxford dictionary is the practice of having slaves under this system slaves are the properties of their masters just like masters claims ownership of cattle, dogs, sheep, goats, and other household materials.
The convention of the League of Nations in 1926, defined slave trade as “including all acts involved in the capture, acquisition or disposal of a person with an intent to reduce him to slavery.” On a common ground slave trade is the buying and selling of slaves.
These are the basic things you need to know about Trans-Atlantic slavery that was believed to have lasted foe about three and half centuries.

1. The trans-Atlantic slave trade was started by the Portuguese in 1441 when one of their explorer simply named as Gonsalves returned to Lisbon with some African slaves whom he presented to prince Henry the navigator though prince Henry’s intention was to educate them, convert them to Christianity and send them back as missionaries. But his successors encouraged the importation of more and more slaves as domestic servants.

2. The discovery of the New World (America) by Christopher Columbus. Blacks were imported from west Africa to replace the Indians for it was incidentally discovered that Africans survived in the weat India climate, as more plantations were set up and more mines opened, the demand for slaves increased.

3. The Dutch entered the trade when they conquered Brazil and took over her plantations. In this century, the Dutch and the Portuguese was the heading slave trading nations in Europe.

4. Britain and France took over the lead from the Dutch and Portuguese in the eighteenth century. In the seventeenth century the estimated number of slaves that was imported annually to the West Indies was 27000 as against 13000 in the sixteenth century.

5. European monarchs gave official backing, for instance, Queen Elizabeth 1 knighted John Hawkins and made him commander of a squadron of seven that will transport slaves from Africa to the West Indies because in 1562 he erupted a ship load of 300 slaves from Sierra Leone.
