seedord247: 1. No two words to describe it, it's SCAM broo.
2. You cant change from visitor (B1 visa) to student (F1 visa) lai lai koo joor
3. If you take the path most of us here have taken, i doubt if you will be spending upto $1000 except for flight.
3. Take your time and go through all the pages on this thread, i promised you, you wont regret it.
4. 1 milla is alot bro unless you have money to waste.. You can go ahead and dash that swindler You can change a B1/B2 to an F1. Though it could take a lotta time and you might end up denied. Moreover, you've to be in the USA during the application process. That fee of 1m. Hmmmmm. Serious . Lots of question marks. If she's your friend, Y charge you that much? Mind you, they could deny the whole group @the embassy. Say na white man or say na your whole village go doesn't guarantee success. And of you've not traveled before, your chances of getting usa visa is slim. If I'd advise, don't waste your money. Gradually prepare yourself. Take standardised tests. Improve your travel history; take shot trips to dubai, UK, Ghana. Get a job that could give you an embassy letter. Get a good sponsor. This is a better way to invest your 1m. |

VO: How are you ME: Am good VO: how did you get to know about the school ME: I did a comprehensive research online using Princetonreview.Com, Usnews.com, and Gradschool. com VO: why did you choose the school ME: It is the most ranked school among the schools I apply to, it is rated among the best in the Midwest by Princeton review and usnew. It is also the safest campus in Michigan and the 3rd safest campus in the United state according to Reader's Digest VO: how many school did you apply to ME: 5 VO: who is sponsoring you ME: My Dad VO: what dos he do ME: He is the general manager of...... bank and his is also into Real estate.
that was all d question she asked, No document was requested. Bros, sorry about your denial. Though I agree that u could do a bit better with ur answers, I don't think it's a bad transcript at all. Even the research stuff is already hackneyed. The truth is that it's not ur time to get a visa. By the time you approach the counter and having gone through ur application, the VO has already made up their minds on what to do. Every other thing u are saying is give n take unless maybe u commit a catastrophic blunder. These guys are seasoned profilers. They know what they're looking for when they see it. Theres sth about ur profile that doesnt add up. Guess u should go through your transcript and application carefully, correct any mistakes n apply next time. |

Nice write up. The truth is: any woman that loves you would go to any extent to please you! Mark my words. Even if she's a V, someday she's gonna let you into her sanctuary. Guys, stop deceiving yourself in that thing called Platonic relationship. The girl simply doesn't value you, wants no emotional attachment in the relationship and is ready to walk away @the slightest provocation. Platonic relationship is akin to a celibate being emotionally involved with a woman. What is the guarantee it won't end up in consummation? Surely, it's a matter of time. According to most religious beliefs, premarital sex is sin. And I agree. So also any relationship without sex is no relationship. So, if u don't wanna sin, why don't you stay single until you're married. Do you think you can lick a pie without eating the meat? |

ebdib: I know he had like 1500 on the old gre. He got full funding at john's Hopkins and partial at Harvard. He did take a loan to attend Harvard. It's the only school I know where intl students can take private loans. (you can explore this option too just research about it)
You can ask more about the private loan option when you mail the mph graduate coordinator at Harvard. MPH at Harvard costs around $50000 per year. Very expensive So Make sure you have a funding plan. In case you don't get funding. They partially fund the 'best' candidates.
I don't have more info now, I haven't spoken to the guy this year. We're forming big boy for ourselves unfortunately. Lol. Lol @forming big boy for yourselves! Do you have an idea on why he didn't attend John Hopkins even with the full funding? That sounds strange because John Hopkins is one of the best in the world! |

ebdib: Hello The field of public health is somewhat different Public health problems are more concentrated in developing countries so they must recruit student from these countries.
Basically you're competing with other Nigerian applicants so if your credentials exceed theirs, then you're good. I have a friend from uch who was partially funded at Harvard HSPH. He was very bright though.
Your stats are cool. PS. Check Harvard shool of public health to see the average gre scores of previous applicants and compare it to yours
Goodluck man. By partial funding you mean like How much % of the total tuition? The reason I applied HSPH is because I discovered its well funded. The chances of getting funding is higher as opposed to mid to lower level schools. I understand that ivy leagues are damn expensive but with funding, the cost of attendance would equal or even become less than that of attending a lower school. |

ebdib: I realize most people on this website think Gre and toefl are the only things that matter in graduate admissions. Especially to top or ivy league schools.
How wrong!!!
Granted you must score within 95+ percentile in both sections of the GRE. But guess what? So will other candidates. If you're looking to use test scores as your edge when applying to Harvard or princeton then you're sorely mistaken. There will always be others who will score perfect in all three areas.
Your Gpa matters. If you're not first class, I don't think you should apply to Harvard or Princeton first of all. I mean you could try but you'd certainly have an uphill task and that means your gre and toefl must be perfect.
Research experience. How much TANGIBLE research work has he done in his field? What about first paper publications and conference presentations? Any internships? Any honours? Are the recommender professors who are grounded in the given field?
After all these then you have a grueling Skype interview with the admissions committee.
Then there's funding. Harvard, princeton, Yale are bleeping expensive. If you're not funded, it's almost 10M per year. That's not beans. To be funded by ivy league schools is even harder than the admission.
I'm not discouraging anyone from applying to ivy league schools. I attend one but I know what i went through. Please you have to know what you are and what you can offer. Don't waste your application fee on harvard ($100-150) when you know you can't even crack 166-170 on the GRE verbal and quantitative or can't get 110+ in toefl or you don't have a close to perfect GPA.
Managing expectations is a wise thing
Cc @bignyash Helo edib. Thanks for the insight into ivy league admission. I'm applying for MPH. My data is as follows: GRE: 313 (157V, 156Q), awa 3.5, Toefl 108, GPA 3.32. By the way I studied medicine. I applied to Harvard and some other ivy league with the Hope of getting funded. From your analysis, does it mean I ain't qualified for admission talkless of funding? I'm confused cos I've a friend that got admission much less scores. |

I've used my naira visa card from zenith n union several times in the past. N they both worked. It's master card that isn't acceptable. That's y people with MasterCard open PayPal to enable them do online transactions. The card could be from any bank not necessarily gtb. Provided they have internet banking facility. |

You don't need a PayPal account if you have a visa card. Even if you wanna open a PayPal account, a master card from any bank offering internet banking would suffice. sirRiddy: Check the ets website. It has more than enough information on test dates, resources and identification. The only twist is the registration payment for your test in which you might need a Paypal account and a mastercard, GTB offers a good internet banking system. Please try and prepare for the test well and ask questions here anytime. We will be willing to help you with test materials and advice. Good luck! |

I just want to try to use one stone to kill two birds while sending application to d two places. So I can choose d one to write out of TOEFL or IELTS. Thanks. Do your school research, know the requirements of each school and decide on the one to write. Be sure to choose schools with similar requirements. In my own opinion, the odds favour toefl because it's easier, straight forward n more acceptable even in Canada. Ielts is important if you wanna do Canadian immigration. |

The course is for 2years.
My older bro is in Casper Wyoming that's why I wanna school there from his advice so as to cut accommodation costs.
I have mailed the school and was asked to apply. All my docs are set but I wanna seek advice from u guys here dat have more experience cos all I have been trying is Canadian colleges for d past 3years and I have been denied by VO all d time. Your added inputs wld go a long way thank U boss. Try getting admission into a good university, secure your visa, enter the united states and switch to the community college with their i20. osahons9: Sorry about the denial. I believe you didn't state your case thoroughly. I think your reason for choosing the school wasnt convincing enough. You fumbled when she asked where you work; Private hospitals have names. She started to probe you and you fell into her trap.
In her mind, you are a medical doctor that earns a salary per month yet you are not co-sponsoring your education, you have no grant, no assistantship or anything. from your age, she will know your sister might have a family of her own and you might be a burden on her as well. To send someone to med school is expensive in nigeria and more expensive in the USA.
To me It's not cogent enough. They denied you because of any or both reasons aforementioned. You need to sell yourself to them.
From my experience, that's what I think. I might be wrong sha My sister is single. The vo never asked. N I have a statement of account of about 2.5 m. The vo never asked though it was on my i20. I concur it's possible I fumbled the reason for choosing the school. Is it possible to reapply n request expedite appointment. Resumption is 12th jan |

Congratulations to all those that had their visas approved. Was issued a 214b denial today @ the Abuja consulate. VO: Good morning. Even before I got to the counter Me: Good morning Vo: Pass your documents. Which I did Vo: You're going to UNT for an MPH Me: Yes Vo: Y UNT Me: Accredited by council on education for pub health, well structured curriculum includes all sub specialties in pub health and the opportunity of doing research work on Ebola infection in the hospital Vo: Who's paying? Me: my elder sister Vo: Y Me: She's been in charge of my education since I was little and paid part of my tuition in medical school Vo: So you're a medical doctor Me: Yes Vo: Where do you work? Me: in a private hospital Vo: As what? Me: Medical officer Vo: What's ur specialty? Me: Gp Vo: What kind of work do you do in the hospital Me: In patient n outpatient management of illnesses Vo: What does your sister do? Me: She's a paediatrician Vo: Pass me her bank statement. After scrutinizing, asked for reference letter. Which I presented. Scrutinized again n continued typing Vo: Have u travelled out of the country Me: No. I've not had any reason to travel uptill now Vo: Typed for a while before issuing the 214b.
The guy didn't even ask of any family ties. He denied all the young people before me though most were tourism visa. School resumes 12th December. I'm considering reapplying n requesting for expedite appointment. Cos I feel this denial is unjust. What's your take on this. Your candid opinion would be invaluable. |
