Fenix: Wow. The number worked perfectly for me today.
I'll be frank with you, it will take a miracle for you to go for your interview on Wednesday. The embassy usually takes 3 business days to reflect any change on their end. I was also in your situation and I got turned back. If that is the case, can I reschedule my interview for another date, will this attract another 64k? Please someone should save my soul. I don't have another 64k to pay. Is it possible they rectify this issue tomorrow? In your own case, what really transpired, at what point were you turned back and which of the DS 160 did you take along? I am really worried, someone should advice me on what to do |

Fenix: The 2nd number you were given is correct Just be patient. You have to listen carefully to all the options. When you first dial the number, choose option 4. From there choose option 2. From there, choose 6. You will then hear a long message. Wait until the end of the message and you will present prompted to choose an option to tall to a service agent.
Buy lots of credit. The second number is not going through only the first connected through; I tried the second number 0144066218 till the end of work hour which is 4pm all to no avail. What can I do? I have just tomorrow to clarify all these issues, do you have any other number or email address I could use to reach them? And again what would be the implication of all these if the issue is not rectified before wednesday, should I go to the consulate office with the two printed DS160 or stick with new one I just filled? |

Urgent! Someone should help me with the US consulate number, I actually called this number; +234 14603400 and was asked to call this number 014406218. I called the number but to no avail. Does anyone know the number I could call so that my new DS160 form is updated at their end before my interview scheduled for wednesday. This is urgent before they close for the day. |

Fenix: Bro,
From what happened to me, it DOES NOT reflect automatically on their end. I made that same mistake. It takes about 3 business days before the change is reflected by the embassy. I would say call them up to confirm. They are actually quite helpful. Please could you help me with the number? |

cosade: The barcode will change but all the information you filled earlier are retained. Simply review and change whatever you want to amend. I have done that and updated my profile on the appointment site yesterday, so will the new confirmation code reflect immediately at their end? Am I good to go, anybody can reply to put my mind at ease. |

[quote author=cosade post=59207572]On the DS160 application website, use the RETRIEVE APPLICATION menu.
You'll be asked for the first five letters of your surname, year of birth and security question. The select "create new application".
Thank you. Will creating new application change the code in anyway? Also after clicking on create new, would the previous entries still be visible, because I would need to only change the answer to that question as YES or It means I will have to fill to form all over again? |

cosade: Answering "No" implies you're being economical with the truth. These guys have zero tolerance for lies, deceits, misrepresentation etc. You're toying with a ten (10) year ban.
You should immediately fill a new form and update your profile in the appointment portal with the new barcode generated. To make it faster, simply retrieve the old form, click on create a new application and correct your mistake(s) before submitting. Thank you very much, God bless you. Are you saying I can retrieve the DS160 I have submitted? I feel if should try to log in with the DS 160 code, it will tell me the form has been submitted, please elucidate on this, is it the appointment site I will visit to make this changes, please help interview is wednesday. How do I retrieve the old form? I would want to edit just that part to Yes because filling a new one is time consuming, is this possible? I look forward to your prompt reply. |

Please I need help, after filling a new DS160 and answered NO to the question asking if I have been denied a Visa or turned back at the point of entry after my last delayed interview, I have also booked an appointment with the new DS160 confirmation code. However, someone on this platform raised a concern about it that I ought to have filled YES since I was denied. I would like to know if this will likely be an issue during interview or is it possible to fill a new one after submission? If possible I hope the processing will reflect before my interview coming up this week; I wouldn't want to pay another 64k if everything should go awry or should I go to the interview with that hoping to explain to them that I had already submitted the form before noticing the mistake? Any person with a kind heart should help me with a mock interview because I wouldn't want to be delayed the second time; I never knew this interview would be another challenging encounter after all the GRE and multiple applications to gain admission. Fortunately, the school has sent me a new I-20 still with a master's but with a remark that I have been admitted into Msc/PhD which is contigent upon completion of the Msc. This PhD which will commence 2019/2020 comes with tuition waiver/24000$ stipends. And again I hope this will not raise a concern due to the issue date of the new admission letter and I-20 form, that it is an afterthought, u people know these people are not looking for reasons to grant u but 1 reason not to grant you. I know my father in heaven is in control. I am appealing to any kind hearted fellow to review my likely answers to the likely interview questions via a mock interview, I pray the almighty God will meet you at every point of your needs..... |

Please, I intend filling a new DS 160, what do I do to the old one? Should I just go ahead and generate a new code or I will have to login to the previous one and edit anything I feel like, although I wont be altering anything in the old DS160. Please how do I go about it, is it that I will just have to abandon the old one and fill in the new security detail and generate new code? This is urgent, someone should help! |

LagosismyHome: same here, I agree..........even when I see people going from one BSc in naija to another BSC abroad (where it is way more expensive) it makes no sense to me . although yes some have valid reason. Thanks @LagosismyHome. I want you to know that I pondered on this before deciding to go for this second masters, the offer is just too tempting to reject. I believe this program offers a better job prospect and of course it will help boost my professional and career development in this emerging and lucrative business of biologics development and production. Biotechnology is the rave of the moment in the US and all over the world; 8 of the top 12 selling drugs in the world are biologics. Also, mote that my masters is with no clear cut specialisation and I have good reasons to go to the US because there is no institutions in Nigeria offering a masters engineering degree in biopharmaceutical processing. I decided to go for this course because the top 3 states in the US with high concentrations of biotech companies are: Boston, California and New Jersey and this school is located in California with a strong industry collaboration; as a matter of fact additional lecturers are brought as adjunct faculty from pharmaceutical companies around just to keep the program updated with latest trend. Students have business cards and this school has packaging, there are special job fares held where u get to meet business men and industry experts and exchange cards and network. Moreover, you are assigned two advisors when admitted: an academic and industry expert for academic and professional development. They also offer to give me a collateral free loan of 41000$. Why would they want to give a foreigner loan? Of course dem blief say jab sure die. I can always pay back 10years after graduation with an interest rate that is as low as 8 percent. From statistics 90% of people that offer this course are usually employed with an annual average salary of 65-70K. I thought about all these coupled with the fact that it is a 2years program and a PhD is a minimum of 3 years if the Nigerian masters will be put into consideration and valued over there. But come to think of it the essence of going to US is for career development and professional network which should translate to tangible benefits. Me no wan go dey read book too much with no prospect of jab after grad o! Lest I forget, there is a course called the Capstone Team Design Project which is industry sponsored and of course the internship which provide one with a veritable platform for professional network and OPT offer after graduation; students participate in a paid internship between the first and second year of their program. The 10-12 week internship salaries range from $15-$35 per hour, with students averaging $8,000 or more earned during their summer internship. Not only is the summer internship a way to gain experience and draw a salary, but 45% of MBS and PPM graduates report that their summer internship directly helped them find a job. Please think about all these, who would not grab this offer? |

Fenix: Hello. I'm sorry to hear about the denial. I find it to be very strange that you would be rejected for having one masters already. The only reason I can think of is that your first masters looks very similar to the masters you are going in for.
If money is not an issue, I think you can re-apply for next week and you should strongly think of what story to tell for applying for another masters that appears similar to what you already have.
It is well! God bless you. Thank you and God bless! I do not think the VO even understands that the masters are related because the I-20 does not show admission in chemical engineering but the Major which is generic category i.e. Biological and Physical Science the degree falls under; even the admission letter that I never had the opportunity to present shows masters of engineering in biopharmaceutical processing. The old woman had the fixed notion of why would I want to go for a second degree. I can only hope for grace next time because I am contemplating the latter option available to me and elucidate further on that if I the VO doesn't interrupt. The 64k not a small money though. |

I have been a silent follower of this forum. Regrettably, I have been delayed a Visa this morning at the US consulate for the 6:30a.m appointment. My greatest fear actually came to pass; I was denied on the basis that I already hold a masters degree in Chemical Engineering and that why would I want to go for another masters degree.
The Consular Officer did not give me time to express myself and she asked me to apply for a PhD degree if I am serious about studying in the US. I actually thought about this when CGU offered me admissions for masters of engineering in bio-pharmaceutical processing instead of a PhD. It is not that I did not prepare well but the question caught me unawares, perhaps I did not pay close attention that this might likely be the starting point of the conversation. I have been following this thread casually since last year August but with enthusiasm by November. Although I applied lately for Phd in chemical engineering at Steven's Institute of Tech, Uni of Tulsa, michigan Tech with denial from all perhaps due to the late application. I have sent a mail to CGU that my Visa application was denied, this school was not actually part of my plans but I became interested because the school has strong industrial collaboration for internship and not only that, the Amgen bioprocessing centre ABC of the institution which has state of the arts facilities was donated by Amgen which is among the top 5 biotech company in the US. The Executive Vice President of biomarin pharmaceutical(a top biotech company in the US) which is also a big biopharmaceutical company is the chairman of the advisory committee of the ABC. The school also have centre for biomarkers research and centre for rare disease therapy. Moreover, the curriculum is just amazing which comprises both the Technical and the Regulatory & Business aspect of the industry which actually help one to acquire skills and knowledge on how to set up your own biotech firm if you are the business oriented type and of course the small class size. It is a rigorous 2year program with a 60 credit unit hours. I applied late to schools because the first GRE on the 15/01/2017 was not competitive enough 300, Q150 V150. I had to write another one Q158 V152 April which is quite late. My Bachelors CGPA is 3.47/5 while that of Masters GPA is 4.07/5. Although I contacted the 3 schools above that I will only consider a funded offer and I was asked to go ahead with the application. Meanwhile I had already applied to Univ of Illinois, Vanderbilt Uni and MTU using the first GRE score which was flatly rejected; I later got to know that the schools are highly ranked institution. MTU advised that I reschedule a test and write the GRE again, i later got to know that they hardly fund PhD students.
Conversation: I could not remember if I greeted her, the old lady that did the finger print thing at the extreme VO: what is your highest educational degree ME: Masters Degree VO: when did you graduate? ME: you mean the Bachelor's or Masters VO: I mean your last degree ME: February 2016 VO: why another Masters? ME: I stammered which is very unlike me, I couldn't come up with something concrete, I was scared, although I didn't portray it, I tried to pick up myself. I was motivated by my current job role which actually involve working in a pharmaceutical company, I failed to elucidate further on this. And I intend to set up a biotech company in the future, trust I wasn't articulate and I was hoping she will move to another question where I felt I was well prepared for. VO: I am sorry bla bla......... handed me my passport with the blue paper..... if u are ready to pursue your study in the US you can apply for a PhD degree. ME: I was shocked even with my $20000 scholarship trying to explain, I just said to myself move on the blue paper had been issued already. Trust the entire process is barely 3 minutes, it was brief. The American dream clear for my eyes! I was not happy left gallantly but dejected and I said to myself, if it is PhD admission you want I will get you just that. I must also admit I wasn't articulate and the reasons I gave was not a strong one. Honestly, I didn't know what came over me, this is unlike me, I can't stand disappointment. It really sucks..I have written the school because I got to know lately that they have an industry sponsored PhD program in bioprocessing. I asked if they can offer me new I-20 for this same Fall term or possibly the Spring Term which I doubt they accept intake. Mind you for chemical engineering coming to bioprocessing the Track will have u taken some courses like Molecular basis of disease, molecular biology and genetics, biochemistry, pharmaceutical based therapeutics, mammalian cell culture, principle of bioprocess design and practice, bioprocess engineering principle, principle of bioreaction, entrepreneural financing, finance and accounting principle, a team design project and an optional research project in bioprocessing entrepreneurship and bioprocess business plan, quality control and assurance, CMC regulations, laboratory and workshop courses, regulatory and other business courses. I have actually highlighted these courses to show that there is is quite a number of differences between this masters of bioprocess and the traditional Chemical engineering masters I already have. Do i have a strong chances of approval if i should reshedule an interview; one can not rule out the fact some of this VOs are not science oriented and might not be patient to listen to your jargons. I am actually brainstorming for a catchy and subtle answers I could give next time should I decide to reschedule. This course is actually a hybrid of chemical engineering, biotechnology, biochemistry and cell biology and the likes; i will actually be trained in process modelling and scale up of biological based drugs and therapies such as vaccines, human growth homones, tissue plainogen activator, insulin, monoclonal antibody for auto immune disease and cancers, etc. A chemical engineer should understand me better. Will a VO be willing to listen to all this explanation? Or better still i should tell the VO that I applied for a PhD but was given a masters admission to complete all the biological science prerequisite courses before I can enroll for the PhD after I must have completed a Masters degree with a satisfactory grade? Will the VO reckon with the latter. If the school refuses to issue a new I-20 for PhD i might be forced to apply to new schools this coming Spring because really there is no time to wait for Fall; I am already 30. Age is crucial in anything you doin life. I need help!!!! Should i refire and apply again possibly next week. Orientation starts by 14 August and class will commence 29 August. I need constructive feedback from Gurus on this thread on what I need to do, I presently work in a pharmaceutical but not biopharmaceutical/biotech company with 3 years experience I graduated 2010 November for Bsc, Masters Feb 2016.
Forgive my errors, I didn't actually proof read the post.... |
