It varies... could vary from 6weeks to 3 months.

Know of some people that theirs took 6weeks, 7 weeks... mine took approximately 8weeks.

When you lodge ur application (not EOI) & have all required docs like police report from both Nig and AFP, assessment letter, medical report, statement of study (2yr) completion, etc etc... its takes the immigration anything from about 6weeks to 3 months to vet and issue/deny one a PR visa.

You got admission with no IELTS? Wow, that's strange. Tho like someone said, alot has changed since my time and this could be one of those changes.

I see no part in you getting PR straight frm Naija (@bellong can advise further, but I doubt it): No IELTS, ur accrediting body ACS has sm complex accrediting system in that the discount 2yrs from ur experience before counting whatever that remains as part of ur experience; for eg if yu hv 4yrs experience in Nigeria, to assess ur experience the discount 2yrs from the 4yrs, thus u hv 2yrs. So in ur case u hv 3months experience. For Australian experience they discount 1yr from ur years of experience.
So getting the min points is near impossible if not possible. Anyone with any information that counters my view can chip in and help the fella;

My advice is be sure ur MSc program is a two-year course.

Write IELTS and attempt to make an 8 in all band (that's 20 pts with ur age another 30pts i.e. 50pts already) - ur program is assessed by ACS which needs 65pts or 70pts (in fact work with 70pts to be safe).

With a successful accreditation by ACS (15pts) and 2 yr study here (5pts) u stand a chance of getting the 70pts needed

The bolded can be misleading on face value. It's not needed for assessment, but can be assessed (if yu hv relevant experience) by Engineers Australia & if +ve gives u 5pts The way it came off, might be seen by some as if work experience isn't needed. My 2cents

A three (3) yrs work experience in Nig gives yu 5pts whilst a 1yr work experience in Oz gives yu same 5pts.

Like bellong said; have yu considered emigrating from naija straight, rather than via M.Eng? Check if yu meet the minimum 60pts for Engineering
Age, IELTS, 1st deg, work experience, wifey work experience etc; if yu do, why not work ur PR from naija? Know personally some folks that did it from naija (three different families)

I screamed!...How expensive was it for you in melborne? I want to be sure i know what am getting into. As a guy who has a family i dont want to go on assumed fallacies.

At the time I enrolled @ Uni Melb the tuition was 33K AUD/yr (with a caveat that the tuition wont be increased by more than 10%) and at time it was the highest or amongst the highest.

Its expensive (wont mince words) erase the thots (ie if yu have such thots anyways) that yu will work in Oz and earn enuf money to pay such fees - one thing will suffer, ur grades or ur fees.

To be able to attempt or pay ur fees yu will have to drop ur course load from 4 courses per semester to 3 or 2-course load and that means elongating ur M.Eng duration time.

Peeps that work and earn money to pay their fees are those that go to lower cadre schools, but not like ur school with 40K/yr tuition

You can work and earn enuf to pay ur bills and be relatively comfy and send some AUD back home from time to time.

During my time I got a job in June/July, which was school vacation time (came in Feb) partly cos of the workload at Uni Melb, so no time to combine working and studies.

Melbourne and Queensland have relatively same living expense but Sydney is expensive;

Is ur family coming with you, as u r arriving or they will join later? U got kids?

things have changed since 2014, a lot actually...there's a new class of visa now since July this year under the ssvf ...so the above schools do not require proof of funds (statement of account )...mind you that is different from proof of payment(usually part or complete payment of first semester tuition)..

Applied around July/Sept... and yes I didn't apply for post-study visa, went straight from student visa (573) to PR (189)

Nah didn't wait to finish my studies, used my 3 yrs work experience in Nig to get the needed 5 points -: Age gave me 30pts, IELTS (9,9,9,7.5 - wrote in sept 2015) gave me 10pts, my 1st deg gave me 15pts and naija work experience gave me 5pts altogether 60pts.

This is to encourage folks that you can make/get ur IELTS score of 8 in all bands (as I hear from peeps that its hard to get 8; it's doable am an example, did it @ 1st try)

Some of Uni u posted here (RMIT, Uni of Sydney, Uni of Queensland, Monash, QUT, Macquarie University etc) are Australian top rated Unis and I very much doubt if they will NOT require proof of payment At least I know of University of Melbourne cos I enrolled there in Elect Eng (M.Eng) Feb 2014 and prior to been issued offer letter or visa or both (can't recall now) I submitted proof of payment from my sponsor.

Done with studies and now have my PR; issued this October

Why am asking is that I applied under SVP on the 27th of Nov last yr and had my medicals sent (as confirmed by the clinic) on the 12th of Dec.

Dear All who have done their medicals, any advise on which of the hospitals in Lagos to use? Or I can just use any of the hospitals in Lagos? I intend doing mine tomorrow, sent emails to all three hospitals inquiring on the cost and the earliest possible time I can come for the medicals, one (Dr. Fatayi Wialliams Clinic) responded via phone call, asked for my HAP ID and after which they texted that I can come do it tomorrow morning and that it will cost 55, 200 naira.

NB: One thing I observed from my engagements with the hospital Matron is that the cost of the medicals isnt static, it varies w.r.t. the medicals exams the embassy recommended for you, which the hospital will knw via the HAP ID. With the ID they will log in and view the medicals you need to do and hence provide the cost for the medicals..... My thots though might be wrong.....

posdream: The number on d slip given after biometrics is just for you to track ur application on vfsglobal site. Now,ur HAP ID can be given to u by ur visa officer if u didn't do medical before applying. And u can generate the HAP ID on immi.gov.au site chk d health declaration page. But as it is now that you've submitted. You have to wait for your visa officer to call u. Cos u shouldn't generate d HAP ID after lodging for visa. I hope u are cleared now.

@ All, I applied for my student visa (Streamlined) yday, got a text same yday that it has been dispatched for processing.

However I have a question for those hu hv gone thru this route before; did you receive ur HAP ID from VFS after lodging ur application or will it be mailed/texed to u later from Pretoria?

Why I ask is because on lodging my application I only got was a slip that has my Visa Ref Number (as I got to know later) and the type of visa am applying for and amt paid but no HAP ID on. How I knew was cos I called the hospital trying to inquire on the amt for the medicals and was asked to call my HAP ID, thinking tha the Visa Ref Number was the HAP ID, I called it, buh was informed that that wasnt it that HAP ID is a 7 digits number.

Pls forumite advise so that I will be guided accordingly.

@All... anyone who followed the election period, between Rudd and Abbott and even the power tussle between Rudd and Julian Gillard and subsequent unseating of Julian by Rudd of PM seat (both in same party) will know that Rudd was/is Pro Immigration and Abbott and his coalition party are anti-immigration. Its not a surprise for me w.r.t. Abbott policy on immigration. That was his campaign message: that Australia should be for Australian... and since he won it means Australians wants their borders closed.

Hi All.... I have been following the write ups here and I must say its been helpful....pls I some questions to and they are thus: I have my CoE from Melbourne University for March 3rd 2014 intake M.Eng Electrical Eng, have my TOEFL (score is 97)and ready to apply for my SVP visa by Friday tis week or Monday nxt week,
1). On the application checklist, I belief I have to ONLY fill in the assessment level that concerns me, in this case ASSESSMENT LEVEL AL X?
2). There is the section that says "proof of ties with home country/incentive to return to home country: All applicants are required to provide evidence of ties with home country and incentive to return home (financial, cultural, family ties)..." how to I show material proof of this pls. Those that have applied and issued student visa pls hw did u navigate this route?
3). Am thinking of doing my medicals prior to lodging my application, pls those that have applied and issued visa who went thru this route pls advise me hw u navigated this...On the checklist, it was made mention that if u want to conduct a medical examination prior to lodging an application, must complete a health declaration form and it will be processed ELECTRONICALLY, if the applicant attends eMEDICAL CLINIC, am a bit confused here, pls "AMERICANA, JENNYKARDY, LAWLAND etc help clarify me on exactly hw and what am to do.
4). Also to enhance my points wrt PR, wihich location is a suburb of Melbourne... want to stay dia, Aunty Jenny Kardy tis questio is for u.
