Programming / Book Give Away - Requirements Analysis And System Design: Developing Information by netzymes(m): 9:27am On Jul 16, 2009
Hello,

We are giving away some of our books and have included 'Requirements Analysis and System Design: Developing Information Systems with UML (Paperback)' by Leszek Maciaszek.

Product Description
This is a thorough text on object-oriented software development emphasizing large-scale applications and capitalizing on the increasing popularity of UML and client-server techniques. The book addresses the latest developments in database technology including object-relational databases. In this context, the Internet-driven shift from thick-clients back to server-based computing is acknowledged. The analysis and design principles discussed in the text apply equally well to conventional client-server solutions and modern component-based distributed applications.

The selected comment is:

'I was particularly elated to discover that a book like this has been written finally. I would like to read this book because it would open me up to the inner life of a literary icon. Chinua Achebe is a writer you would feel you know on a personal level because of his engaging writing style. I've always wondered what informed the writing style of this great man, therefore a peek into his background would be an answer to that question.' by Faith Willie

Sorry MrCrackles, I didn't want to repost the letter as that my violate forum rules. But here it is for everyone else

********************************************************************************************

I am hungry, Please re-brand me by Onyeka Minista, Lagos Nigeria

I am Nigeria. I have millions of acres of arable land and billions of cubic litres of water, but I cannot feed myself. So I spend $1 billion to import rice and another $2 billion to import milk. I produce rice, but don't eat it. I have 60 million cattle but no milk. I am hungry please re-brand me.

I drive the latest cars in the world but have no roads. I loose family and friends everyday on roads for which funds have been looted. I loose my young, my old and my most brainy and productive people to pot-holes, craters and crevasses they travel everyday. I am in permanent morning, please re-brand me.

I wanted change so I stood all day long to cast my vote. But even before I could vote, the results had been announced. When I dare to speak out, silence was enthroned by bullets. My rulers are my oppressors, and my policemen are my terrors. I am ruled by men in mufti, but I am not a democracy. I have no verve, no vote, no voice, please re-brand me.

I have 50 million youths with no jobs, no present and no future. So my sons in the North have become street urchins and his brothers in the South have become militants. My nephews die of thirst in the Sahara and his cousins drown in the waters of the Mediterranean. My daughters work the streets of Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, while her sisters parade the streets of Rome and Amsterdam. I am inconsolable, please re-brand me.

I can produce anything, but import everything. So my toothpick is made in China; my toothpaste is made in South Africa; my salt is made in Ghana; my butter is made in Ireland; my milk is made in Holland; my shoe is made in Italy; my vegetable oil is made in Malaysia; my biscuit is made in Indonesia; my chocolate is made in Turkey and my table water made in France. My taste is far-flung and foreign, please re-brand me.

But then why can I not simply be me, without being re-branded? Or does my complexion cloud the colour of my character? Does my location limit the length of my liberty? Does the spirit of my conviction shackle my soul? Does my mien maim the mine of my mind? And is this life worth re-branding? I am not yet born, please re-brand me.

Properties / Re: Real Estate In Nigeria: What Is It Like? by netzymes(m): 1:58pm On May 10, 2007
Dear bedone,

When you say go into it do you mean as a business or you are looking for investments. The market right now is a speculators market, high risk, high rewards. It would be interesting to find out how many people that have given their advise so far have invested in the market and what the returns are.

There are many VERY NICE developments/houses in Lekki Phase 1, Ajah etc that are currently empty - no buyers and no tenants. You have to do some work on what type of properties you want to invest in or build, who your target market is - find out what the salary level of young professionals are and how much of this they can save and pay for a place - if you are looking for rent and capital gains.

Please remember there are no guarantees. I hear the see the words HOT etc. There is a lot of activity as far as people building in those areas but the quick rentals are under N500,000. The quick sales are under N5m. Anything around N10m and you could struggle competing with larger developers.

Hope this helps.

Good luck!
