The Managing Director of Intercontinental Paints Ltd., Mr Aigbe Omoregie, on Friday advised the Federal Government to ban importation of paints as part of initiatives to build a virile economy.

Omoregie gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

He said that it was improper for the country to be importing paints when the production capacity of local manufacturers had improved.

A total of 128 countries on Thursday at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly voted against the decision of US president, Donald Trump, to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

This is despite threats from Trump to cut off financial aides to countries who vote against the move.

Gov. Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state replied Governor Ayodele Fayose and others making a ruckus over the $billion approved to fight insecurity. He said the decision by the governors was taken in good faith.

Dickson who belongs to the same Peoples Democratic Party like Governor Ayodele Fayose, who has challenged the move in court, explained why the Governors’ Forum’s decided to grant Federal Government permission to utilize one billion dollars from the Excess Crude Account for security.

A 57-year-old businessman, Haruna Isah, has been sentenced to 3 months imprisonment in prison for for assault, NAN reports.

Isah of Utako village, Abuja, was convicted on a charge of causing grievous hurt. He pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.

The Judge, Sadiq Abubakar, however, gave the convict an option of fine of N10, 000, and said that it was intended to serve as a deterrent to others.

Movement of vehicles and commuters was on Monday put on hold around major areas of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital as students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) embarked on a protest, Channels reports.

Nigeria’s minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohamed, has said that the Federal Government (FG) will make the annual Calabar Carnival festival a major foreign exchange earner for the country owing to its increasing popularity.

Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said that the $1 billion approved by the National Economic Council (NEC) for the fights against Boko Haram insurgency is for Buhari’s re-election.

President, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick has given the assurance that persons whose dereliction of duty led to the fine placed on the Super Eagles by FIFA would not go unpunished.

Pinnick made the vow on Tuesday in a press statement released by the Football Federation.

The NFF boss has directed that an internal inquiry be instituted to investigate whose neglect of duty led to Nigeria being fined. He also apologized to Nigerians for the fiasco.

The Ibadan Council of Obas, on Monday, rose from a meeting at the Mapo Hall, Ibadan, accusing the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, of acts capable of undermining his office.

The Nigerian Seafarers Development Programme has produced another 59 cadets, who graduated from the Liverpool John Moores University, United Kingdom.

The programme is part of the Capacity Building initiative of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency.

NIMASA Head of Corporate Communications, Mr Isichei Osamgbi, in a statement on Thursday said 1,343 graduates have been produced by the scheme since its inception.

The graduates were produced from institutions in UK, Egypt, Romania and Philippines.
