Politics / Hoodlums Raid COVID-19 Palliative Warehouse In Bauchi, Find It Empty by Newsbreakers: 10:35pm On Oct 25, 2020
Hoodlums raided the warehouse which stores COVID-19 palliatives in Bauchi State on Sunday, October 25 but left in disappointment after they found it empty.

The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, who disclosed this on his verified Twitter handle, narrated how his Chief of Staff, Ladan Salihu, opened the warehouse which stores COVID-19 palliatives in the state for the hoodlums as they made an attempt to raid the storage facility.

However, the hoodlums left in disappointment after they met it empty. The governor further revealed that the foodstuffs were distributed between May and August 2020.

Governor Mohammed tweeted, “Today, hoodlums attempted a raid on the COVID-19 palliatives warehouse in Bauchi State. My Chief of Staff was informed and he ordered the warehouse to be opened. They saw it was empty, and they turned back. And that’s because we shared everything to beneficiaries as and when due. For accountability, when we started distribution months ago, I ensured to set up a high powered committee that included myself. The core of my mandate remains the crucial drive to give Bauchi State citizens a better prospect and a more excellent opportunity for a prosperous life. We are doing this, and we will continue to do more.”

Politics / Newsbreakers Fact Check: Can UN Intervene In #endsars Crisis After 30 Days? by Newsbreakers: 11:09pm On Oct 18, 2020
If you have been following the #EndSARS protests and campaign for the past few days, then you will have come across a report which says that if the protesters keep at it until a 30-day cycle is achieved, then the United Nations (UN) can intervene and save the day. How true is this?

The #EndSARS protests have been going on for more than a week and the campaign has spread to various parts of the country (Check the picture below for the breakdown by state). Several local and international celebrities have also joined the campaign. The EndSARS protests have held in countries like Netherlands France, England, etc.
However, a report made the rounds on social media claiming that the protesters can expect UN intervention if they can keep up the protests for thirty days. The claim read, "According to the UN Constitution any protests that reach 30days will make the UN intervene in that country. The Nigeria Govt knows this. Many young people don’t know it. EXCEPT the govt makes visible tangible immediate changes, #EndSARS protests must continue."

Several celebrities circulated the message on social media and as of the time of writing this report, our correspondent saw the claim on several WhatsApp groups and Twitter accounts. However, Newsbreakers has carried out extensive research to debunk the claim.

Firstly, the United Nations (UN) does not have a constitution. It only possesses a charter to guide the organization and its member countries.

Secondly, according to article 2(7), under the purposes and principles of the United Nations (UN) charter, the organization does not intervene in matters within the domestic jurisdiction of any country.

Article 2(7) read, "Nothing contained in the present Charter shall authorize the United Nations to intervene in matters which are essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of any state or shall require the Members to submit such matters to settlement under the present Charter; but this principle shall not prejudice the application of enforcement measures under Chapter Vll."

Therefore, Newsbreakers has confirmed that the claim is FALSE in its entirety. We advise members of the public to stop spreading misleading information. Newsbreakers remains committed to spreading verified information and, therefore, we encourage the public to adhere to the same principles.
