Sports / What Is Your Opinion On Keshi’s Recall On The Instance Of President Jonathan? by newslife: 7:38am On Nov 01, 2014
Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has been recalled
back to the Nigerian national team after a hiatus. Keshi was relieved of his duties by the Nigeria
Football Federation following Nigeria’s poor
performances and results in the 2015 African Cup
of Nations qualifiers. The NFF announced the appointment of Amodu
Shuaibu as interim coach of the Eagles who will
work with a consortium of home-based coaches. However President Goodluck Jonathan ordered the
reinstatement of Keshi during his peace talks with
the NFF President Amaju Pinnick and factional FA
boss, Chris Giwa. Keshi’s comeback is understood to be part of the
truce which will avert a FIFA ban that would have
taken place on Friday 31 October 2014. The aggrieved Giwa opted to take his case out of
the Jos High Court which duly ensured FIFA did not
strike after 12 noon on Friday. Now, with the return of Keshi and interestingly, his
recall of Villarreal of Spain striker, Ikechukwu Uche
to the Super Eagles, how do you see Keshi
performing in Nigeria’s remaining two games in the
AFCON qualifiers? Do you support Keshi’s return or do you think
Amodu should have taken the Eagles job on an
interim basis?

Sports / This Picture Will Surely Throw Arsenal Fans Into Confusion by newslife: 11:38pm On Oct 30, 2014
Arsenal fans will have done well to keep their
Sunday lunch down after this pictured of the club’s
former heroes flashed up across their screens. Ex-Gunners’ captains Cesc Fabregas and Robin van
Persie, now currently representing Chelsea and
Manchester United respectively, were seen
embracing at Old Trafford ahead of the weekend’s
headline fixture. Both players left Arsenal in the relative prime of
their careers, and Gooners all over the world – who
still hold a secret place in their hearts for the duo –
will probably have shed a solitary tear after being
forced to see this ‘unnatural’ love-in.

Police will take no further action against Mario

the media carried the news but we were

him in the morning,” he said. Ali said that the community had resorted to prayers

have failed in rescuing our children. “It is only God that has the power to help rescue
our girls and we believe he will help us,” he said.

Celebrities / Police Officer Dies In Sex Romp by newslife: 10:02pm On Oct 26, 2014
The quest by an Assistant Superintendent of Police,
ASP, (names withheld) attached to Ilu-Titun,
Divisional Headquarters, in Okitipupa council area
of Ondo State to satisfy his sexual urge while on
duty has allegedly cost him his life. He reportedly died while having sex with a woman
allegedly laced with the dreaded ‘thunder
bolt’ (magun).
Sunday Vanguard gathered that officer, after
reporting for duty on the ill-fated day, inspected the
officers on duty. The residence of the woman he had sex with is said
to be a walking distance to the police station.
It was gathered that the relationship between the
lovers had been on for a long time. Sunday Vanguard learnt that the police officer, who
had no premonition that death was lurking around
the corner, walked into the embrace of his lover
only to somersaulted mid way into sex. It was gathered that around midnight, the woman
raised the alarm, but nobody answered her
following which she rushed to the police station to
report the case. He was reportedly rushed to hospital, but died on
the way. Sources said some whitish substances
foamed from his mouth. The woman involved, according to police sources,
has been arrested and detained. The image maker of Ondo State Police Command,
Wole Ogodo, said he was not aware of the incident. But a police source in Okitipupa confirmed the
incident, saying it was being discussed in hushed
voices within the police command in the state.
Celebrities / Why I Got Solo Endorsement Without My Brother — Peter Okoye Of P-square by newslife: 7:23am On Oct 26, 2014
Tongues have been wagging, anxiety high and of
course, speculations running wild with all sorts of
permutations on why Nutricima, makers of Olympic
milk should endorse only Peter Okoye instead of
the singing duo of him and his brother, Paul.
Scandal hounds have sniffed another crack in the house of the Okoyes and felt another rift in the air
as the one that nearly tore them apart months
before. But speaking at his unveiling as the brand
ambassador of the milk product, Peter debunked
such development and explained why the
company selected him alone. “ Music is like football.
For example, if I play for Barcelona and I get
endorsed by Nike, it doesn’t mean the whole Barcelona team has been endorsed. This is about
me and not me and Paul” he explained. “Among thousands or perhaps millions of people
in the entertainment industry, I felt honoured to be
chosen as the brand ambassador. The deal means a
lot, not just to me but also to my fans. If a brand
isn’t worth it I have nothing to do with such a
brand. The fact that I am ready to work with this brand is an indication of its top quality” he added in
his inaugural speech as the brand ambassador of
the brand.
Politics / 2015 Governorship And 35% Women Participation by newslife: 7:14am On Oct 26, 2014
The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, is
renowned globally for championing the cause of
women. At her capacity building workshop for
female governorship aspirants, held in Abuja on
Wednesday, October 15, the issue of electing female
governors in 2015 was addressed. Present were three front-runners for governorship
in their respective states: Senator Chris Anyanwu
(Imo) Senator Nkechi Nwogu (Abia), and Dr. (Mrs.)
Esther Uduehi (Delta). These women echoed the
concerns of the First Lady about under-
representation of women in politics. Uduehi was quick to add: “In this century, we should not be
talking about man or woman, but rather whether
the person is qualified.” This also was a theme at a recent Women
Leadership Summit in Asaba where Governor
Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State was quoted as
saying “women must come together to win in a
man’s world.” Uduaghan, who was the host of the maiden edition
of The Sun Women Leadership Summit, added:
“They should refuse to be used to pull down or
limit their fellow women in whatever field of
endeavor. The women must agree to work
together, they will win in elections by refusing to be manipulated by men and not be used against their
fellow women.” Which state will show that it is progressive by
electing the first female governor? The First Lady
has been in the forefront of ensuring that women
are no longer marginalized with her global Women
for Change and Development Initiative (W4CDI),
which is “a socio-cultural organization that seeks to better the lot of the Nigerian woman economically,
socially and politically.” W4CDI is similar to African Women Leadership
Organization (AWLO), which recently held its annual
conference in Atlanta, USA under the theme
AFRICAN WOMEN: HARNESSING OUR STRENGTHS,
GROWING IN ALL SPHERES. AWLO mission is “to bring
together female executives, professionals and leaders to further advance the leadership status of
women in the continent and fulfill the objectives of
the organization.” Two specific objectives of AWLO are: “To challenge
African women to aspire to take up leadership
positions in their respective countries;” and “To
support and initiate strategies that improve access
to legal, political, economic, educational, health
services to advance the status of women in the region.” Clearly, ensuring that women have a level playing
field that ensures the election of a female governor
is within the ambit of AWLO, which is also an
extrapolated aim of W4CDI, which states on their
website that “Women for Change and Development
Initiative is committed to the creation of a movement that will engender the mass awareness
of women at all levels to their human rights and
obligations as citizens of Nigeria.” According to the South-East Zonal Coordinator of
W4CDI, Mrs. Uzuamaka Obianujunwa, W4CDI was
established in 2010 and since then “the First Lady
has been at the forefront canvassing for 35 per
cent participation of women in governance in terms
of political appointment and elective positions.” To achieve 35%, it means at least 13 states should
have female governors. In Delta, Uduehi, who is
partly Ukwuani (Delta North) and partly Urhobo
(Delta Central), appears poised to achieve the feat
of being the first female elected governor in Nigeria,
based on her intimidating qualifications . She has also achieved a lot of firsts in her life
including first female Sole Administrator of a Local
Government Area, first female CEO of state owned
companies as Permanent Secretary in Commerce
and Industry, first female Special Adviser to the
President, first female head of a State media house (Bendel Broadcasting Service) and first female
Deputy Treasurer of a political party. Uduehi’s pedigree includes the fact that her junior
sister is a professor and her elder sister was the first
female SSG in Delta State, a fact acknowledged by
the acting President-General of Urhobo Progress
Union (UPU), Chief Joe Omene, at a recent
consultation visit. Omene even said concerning Uduehi: “If Delta State
is ruled by a woman, it will be better for us. A
woman who has risen to your level, why can’t she
rule this state.” While the rest of the world has been very
progressive with women, including electing female
presidents, female Prime Ministers, Nigeria is still
lagging behind and the world is waiting to see if
2015 will be a watershed year that ushers in a new
Nigeria. Let us catch up!
