Food / Natural Palm Oil by Newstac: 11:22pm On Mar 08, 2019
If you live in Lagos, Nigeria then you have certainly had the expression when you taste a Palm Oil you buy from the market- "What kind of oil is this?"- "The taste no be am at all"- "I no know why I dey waste my time and money dey buy this kind oil".

Well, if you don't fall under that category then you will probably fall under the 'Any thing goes' category. The category with the motto 'At all at all na ni bad pass'. The majority of Nigerians fall under this category because of the hash economy. So weather a necessity good you use is bad or worse, as long as it is affordable, you go for it and dam the consequences, after all na something go kill person.

But the truth is, that line of reasoning is wrong. Your life is too precious to play chess with or gamble away easily. Even in the game of chess the players do everything they can to keep their king safe. So why can't you do everything possible to keep your health in check? Yes the economy is bad, yes there is no money, yes things are hard, but if you end up making such excuses for things that could be detrimental to your health then you wouldn't have a good health to enjoy when things eventually becomes rosy.

This fresh Natural Palm oil from the ends of Cross River State is non like any other. The taste is its voice and its Naturalistic feel is top class. No mixtures, 100% natural. And the price? Well, relatively the same with the 'at all at all na hi bad pass' oils. Our 1.5 Litre oil (Big Eva Bottle) goes for 1,150. The price of low quality ones you see around you should not be less than 950, even 1000 naira, so why settle for that when you can have something that benefits you at almost the same price?

Another simple truth is that you should not mentally settle for less. With the right inquires you will definitely find out that the prices of products of goods you buy that you claim to manage is not far off from the prices of the real, quality ones sold. You just have to find the right source to buy them from.

Order your Natural Palm Oil today by clicking on the link below and experience the Naturalistic taste of satisfaction while preparing that delicious meal.

Car Talk / Another Look At The Vision Mercedes-maybach 6 Concept- Definitely Classic by Newstac: 6:21pm On Aug 23, 2016
My favourite feature? The side mirrors. how about you?

It's a radically proportioned 2 plus 2 coupe and the concept's most defining feature is its enormous size. It's 18.5 feet long and nearly 7 feet wide. It's also designed as an electric car.

Managing director Jodi Lai reveals that it has a probably impossible 738 horse power and more than 200 miles of range. The Mercedes also claims a 0-62 miles an hour acceleration time of under 4 seconds.

Mercedes said this electric drive system is actually in development for real production cars. The concept also has a quick charging feature that can get an extra 62 miles of range in just 5 minutes.

Everything about the car is fascinatingly amazing. Its long hood, its gullwing doors, its boat tail rear end, and its really low roof line. According to Jodi, it looks like something a Supervillain would drive.

A few other interesting key designs are the massive red and partially transparent 24 inch rims and the amazing split rear windows.

The concept also has new and lovely side mirrors of which the job is done by cameras that will relate information to the driver.

This Mercedes is super luxurious but Newstac believes that a lot of the tech underneath the sheet metal will somehow trickle down to cars that normal people like you and I who aren't Bill Gates or Aliko Dangote can actually afford. Science/Technology / Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Passed The Test by Newstac: 9:36pm On Aug 22, 2016
If you are thinking of buying a screen protector for your Samsung galaxy note 7, Think Again.

Apart from the fact that it is one of the most sexiest phones, the amazing thing about this phone is that it has the new Gorilla Glass 5, a breaking new technology that cannot be found on any phone yet other than Samsung's Galaxy Note 7. After passing through a knife and hammer test by TechRax, you'll be shocked by the result.

A sharp knife was used to hit the surface of the screen 11 times at a stretch and there was not a single scratch on the screen. The screen was still perfect and the phone still looking hot and sexy.

The knife was also used to slice the phone like a piece of meat severally, but this phone refused to give in. Still looked perfect, still worked perfect(ly).

Then the back of the phone was tested with the knife as well. After about 16 massive hits the phone finally cracks, but surprisingly the screen of the phone was still intact without a scratch and it still functioned properly.

What could possibly be done to break through this resounding screen. Well, up next was the legendary hammer test. The hammer is about 2 and the half pounds and was just about an inch away from the device when it was used to strike the it 7 times and yet again this lovely screen refused to give in.

The test became a little more extreme cus the screen had to be tested to the fullest capacity so a whole lot more energy was been added

After 32 Massive skrikes with the hammer, the highly anticipated Gorilla Glass 5 finally gave in. The screen was damaged and wasn't responding properly again.

So there you go. Here's a phone that's a NEED TO GET. No more worries about screen protection and pouch to protect your phone. The Gorilla Glass 5 is here to put your frustrations behind you. Sports / The New Chelsea Continues To Defy All Odds by Newstac: 10:04am On Dec 30, 2015
The Blues, or as I refer to them 'The New Chelsea' continue their quest to lift the Premier league trophy come may 2016. Having replaced Chelsea at the top and vice versa, they would have loved to take all three points at the King Power Stadium as they look to assert themselves on the title race, but can be pleased with an outstanding performance once again against one of Europe's finest clubs.

Manchester City headed into their final match of 2015 with the feeling that they really needed to beat Leicester City in order to get right back into the Premier League title race. Despite a goalless draw in which they wasted a handful of good chances, however, they should feel content with a solid night's work.

At this point, solid is welcome. After all, this is a team that has looked decidedly ropey away from home for much of the season. Their last five matches on the road have yielded just two points and two goals - both of those in defeat. There has also been that crippling inability to keep a clean sheet without Vincent Kompany.

And when the Belgian was forced off just nine minutes into his long-awaited comeback on Boxing Day, things didn't seem to be looking up heading into a run of four tricky away fixtures in all competitions.

Leicester have taken on all comers this season and fully deserve their place among the Premier League challengers. For City to keep things together against Claudio Ranieri's men and in the face of a raucous, often outright angry crowd, is something to cling onto going into the second half of the season.

The last time the Foxes failed to score at home in the league was March, and the last time City kept a clean sheet without Kompany was at the end of last season, so in that regard this is very much a corner turned.

There are still concerns, however. Sergio Aguero is playing himself back into fitness and that cannot come soon enough, as he was replaced with Bony at the later part of the game.

Kevin De Bruyne was back at his best at the weekend but he has not recreated those performances away from the Etihad Stadium and tonight was another frustrating night. Even David Silva was not at his influential best. City fans will want to see those three combining at their best as soon as possible.

But this was, on the whole, a good night for City. Raheem Sterling impressed going forward and, bar one almost costly lapse, Fernandinho controlled the midfield well alongside Yaya Toure. Aguero, though he should have scored just after the break, could well have had a penalty on another day.

City could not see out the year with an elusive away victory, but they will get another chance at Watford on Saturday and on this evidence there is a lot to work with.

Car Talk / The World's Most Expensive Car- The Koenigsegg One: 1 by Newstac: 7:28pm On Dec 20, 2015
A SUPERCAR that is capable of reaching 439kmh is set to become the world’s most expensive new model, hitting the forecourt for a whopping $A9.9 million.

The Koenigsegg One: 1 is billed as the world’s first ‘megacar’ and at 1,360-horsepower is 20 times as powerful as a Ford Fiesta.

This Swedish machine can accelerate from 0-99kmh in 2.6 seconds and engineers reckon it can reach a top speed of 439kmh.

Only six models of the car have been made, with one of these sold to Supervettura, a supercar dealership in Sunningdale, Berkshire.

The dealership has slapped a staggering $A9.9 million price tag on the car, making it the priciest new model to ever come onto the market. In comparison, the Bugatti Veyron cost a paltry $A1700,000 when it first went on sale.

Car dealer Supervettura said: “We are delighted to offer this very special Koenigsegg One: 1, the car that was used by the Koenigsegg factory to develop the extremely rare and extreme performance One: 1 model, the world’s first Megacar.
“The car will be delivered with an extensive factory refresh and will be ready for delivery in January 2016.”

Sports / Jose Mourinho { The Pressured One } Sacked by Newstac: 6:07pm On Dec 17, 2015
A month ago, Newstac revealed that Mourinho was on the verge of a Chelsea exit and that has finally come to pass on the 17th of December 2015. Chelsea have sacked manager Jose Mourinho seven months after he led them to the Premier League title.

The 52-year-old Portuguese had been in his second spell at the club, taking charge in June 2013.

Chelsea finished eight points clear last season and won the League Cup, but have lost nine of their 16 league games so far and are 16th in the table, one point above the relegation places.

Mourinho's final match was Monday's 2-1 defeat at leaders Leicester City.

Pep Guardiola, Guus Hiddink, Juande Ramos and Brendan Rodgers have all been touted as possible successors as Blues owner Roman Abramovich begins another managerial search.

Chelsea statement

"Chelsea Football Club and Jose Mourinho have today parted company by mutual consent.

"All at Chelsea thank Jose for his immense contribution since he returned as manager in the summer of 2013.

"His three league titles, FA Cup, Community Shield and three League Cup wins over two spells make him the most successful manager in our 110-year history.

"But both Jose and the board agreed results have not been good enough this season and believe it is in the best interests of both parties to go our separate ways.

"The club wishes to make clear Jose leaves us on good terms and will always remain a much-loved, respected and significant figure at Chelsea.

"His legacy at Stamford Bridge and in England has long been guaranteed and he will always be warmly welcomed back to Stamford Bridge.

"The club's focus is now on ensuring our talented squad reaches its potential.

"There will be no further comment until a new appointment is made."

Reaction to sacking

BBC Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer said he was "shocked" by Mourinho's departure but admitted Chelsea's form had been dreadful.

"I've never known a capitulation like it from a football club," the former England captain told BBC Radio 5 live.

"I have never known players to perform like they did last season and then be so bad now. It's unprecedented."

Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce said he was "shocked to say the least", adding: "They must already have somebody lined up to have done it now.

"I'm sad to see Jose go because I got to know him quite well and he's a great manager with great character. He's a loss to the Premier League."

Former England and Arsenal defender Martin Keown said Mourinho had "lost the players".

"It has imploded in front of our eyes," he said. "It is astonishing. I saw players who were not giving everything.

"There is no trust there, respect is gone. Ultimately it is easier to change a manager than 22 players."

Ex-Blues defender Graham Roberts told BBC Radio 5 live: "He came in and said he was 'The Special One'. He's not 'The Special One' no more."

Mourinho's legacy

He leaves with Chelsea just a point off the relegation zone and 20 points behind Leicester.

Champions League qualification via one of the top four spots in the Premier League looks highly unlikely.

However, the Blues are through to the last 16 of European football's biggest club competition, where they will face French champions Paris St-Germain in February and March.

Mourinho only signed a new four-year contract on 7 August and is Chelsea's most successful manager.

He won three Premier League titles, two of those in his first spell between 2004 and 2007.

The Portuguese has also won the FA Cup, in 2007, and the League Cup three times - in 2005, 2007 and 2015.

Troubles on and off the pitch

It has not only gone wrong in the Premier League for Mourinho, he has also had his issues off the pitch.

A 2-2 draw with Swansea on 8 August was overshadowed by a fallout with his medical team, in particular club doctor Eva Carneiro.

Carneiro had her role downgraded after Mourinho said his medical staff were "naive" for running onto the pitch to treat midfielder Eden Hazard.

She eventually left on 22 September and is now taking legal action against Mourinho and the Blues.

Mourinho also received a suspended stadium ban and £50,000 fine for claiming referees were "afraid" to award his team penalties in a 3-1 home loss to Southampton in October.

He subsequently had to serve a one-match stadium ban and pay a £40,000 fine for his behaviour during a 2-1 defeat by West Ham, when he spoke to referee Jon Moss at half-time.

What now for Mourinho?

It is unlikely he will be out of management for long, given his record of success at Chelsea and other top European clubs.

He guided Porto and Inter Milan to Champions League glory in 2004 and 2010 respectively, then Real Madrid to the Spanish La Liga title in 2012.

However, Shearer said his departure from Chelsea "will tarnish him".

At 52, he is still some way from retirement age, but he has expressed a wish to coach the English and Portuguese national sides at some stage in his career.

In fact, he claimed he turned down the chance to become England boss when Steve McClaren was sacked in 2007.

Mourinho has a proven track record of bringing success over the short-term but doubts will remain over his ability to build a dynasty.

Will that make his candidature less appealing to the kind of club he is used to managing, such as Bayern Munich, Paris St-Germain, Manchester United or Manchester City?

What now for Chelsea?

Chelsea have 'no chance' of top four. The Blues may be struggling at the wrong end of the Premier League table, but they are still in the Champions League and the FA Cup, while achieving European qualification is not impossible.

The key for any new manager is improving the morale of a talented squad that has underachieved this season.

Players such as Hazard, Diego Costa, Willian, and Oscar were key to Chelsea winning the league title but performances have fallen well below the heights they reached last year.

After the 2-1 defeat by Leicester Mourinho said he felt his "work was betrayed" by his players, and midfielder Cesc Fabregas has said it is time for everyone to step up.

"If you are a big player and paid like a big player, you must play like a big player and behave like a big player," said the Spain international.

Health / Cancer Is Not Just 'bad Luck' But Down To Environment, Study Suggests by Newstac: 2:27pm On Dec 17, 2015
Cancer is overwhelmingly a result of environmental factors and not largely down to bad luck, a study suggests.

Earlier this year, researchers sparked a debate after suggesting two-thirds of cancer types were down to luck rather than factors such as smoking.

The new study, in the journal Nature, used four approaches to conclude only 10-30% of cancers were down to the way the body naturally functions or "luck".

Experts said the analysis was "pretty convincing".

Cancer is caused by one of the body's own stem cells going rogue and dividing out of control.

That can be caused either by intrinsic factors that are part of the innate way the body operates, such as the risk of mutations occurring every time a cell divides, or extrinsic factors such as smoking, UV radiation and many others that have not been identified.

The argument has been about the relative importance of intrinsic and extrinsic factors.

In January, a report in the journal Science tried to explain why some tissues were millions of times more vulnerable to developing cancer than others.

Their explanation came down to the number of times cells divides, which is out of our control and gave rise to the 'bad luck' hypothesis.

In the latest study, a team of doctors from the Stony Brook Cancer Centre in New York approached the problem from different angles, including computer modelling, population data and genetic approaches.

They said the results consistently suggested 70-90% of the risk was due to extrinsic factors.

Dr Yusuf Hannun, the director of Stony Brook, said: "External factors play a big role, and people cannot hide behind bad luck.

"They can't smoke and say it's bad luck if they have cancer.

"It is like a revolver, intrinsic risk is one bullet.

"And if playing Russian roulette, then maybe one in six will get cancer - that's the intrinsic bad luck.

"Now, what a smoker does is add two or three more bullets to that revolver. And now, they pull the trigger.

"There is still an element of luck as not every smoker gets cancer, but they have stacked the odds against them.

"From a public health point of view, we want to remove as many bullets as possible from the chamber."

There is still an issue as not all of the extrinsic risk has been identified and not all of it may be avoidable.

'Convincing'

Kevin McConway, a professor of applied statistics at the Open University, said: "They do provide pretty convincing evidence that external factors play a major role in many cancers, including some of the most common.

"Even if someone is exposed to important external risk factors, of course it isn't certain that they will develop a cancer - chance is always involved.

"But this study demonstrates again that we have to look well beyond pure chance and luck to understand and protect against cancers."

Dr Emma Smith, from Cancer Research UK, said: "While healthy habits like not smoking, keeping a healthy weight, eating a healthy diet and cutting back on alcohol are not a guarantee against cancer, they do dramatically reduce the risk of developing the disease."

Phones / Apple Users Complain Of Pop-up Ads Telling Them To Buy A Better Iphone by Newstac: 9:58am On Dec 16, 2015
iPhone users are complaining that Apple is showing them pop-up ads telling them to upgrade their iPhone. Over the last week, there have been multiple reports on Twitter and Reddit of full-screen ads appearing when users open the App Store.

The ad shows pictures of the iPhone 6S with the tagline "ridiculously powerful," offering options to skip, "learn more," or "upgrade now." Most users say they saw the ad after upgrading to iOS 9.2 while using an iPhone 5S or older, although at least one person on Twitter claims he was shown the iPhone 6S ad while using an iPhone 6S.

iPhone owners say the ads seem particularly unfair given Apple's claims that it's only interested in getting users to buy its products — not in turning them into a captive audience for advertisements. One user on the Apple Insiderforums compared the ads to being up-sold after purchasing a new car: "[It's] kinda like buying a low-end/entry level model from a car manufacturer, open up the on-screen owner's manual, and it has a pop-up recommending you by [sic] the high-end/premium model." Others say the ad is just the latest example in an established trend of Apple promoting its own products within its own products, something the company has done within iTunes for years and, more recently, with Apple Music. Even noted Apple blogger John Gruber described the ads as "uncouth."

Science/Technology / Experts Use Forensics Tests To Discover What Jesus Christ May Have Looked Like by Newstac: 10:44am On Dec 15, 2015
Hard at work ... Richard Neave creating the new-look Jesus Christ.
Using a new scientific field known as forensic anthropology, British scientists teamed up with Israeli archaeologists to create a computer-generated picture to show what the Son of God may have looked like.

The Mirror reveals that the striking image was created by Richard Neave, a retired medical artist from the University of Manchester, who used forensic anthropology usually used to solve crimes.
“I made a plaster cast of the skull which gives me something to work on,” Neave told the BBC. “Then I put clay over it and, using soft tissue measurements, build up the anatomy of the face,” he said. “Inevitably there are some areas where you have to speculate, particularly if parts of the skull are missing.”

He used the fact that before Christ’s death, Judas Iscariot had to tell the soldiers who Jesus was because they could not tell him apart from his disciples.

The only conclusion was he had dark eyes and the research team decided that Jesus had dark eyes, hair and skin, like his counterparts and was bearded in the Jewish tradition.

Neave and his research team were provided with Semite skulls which they created X-ray “slices” from and used computers to establish the muscles and skin on a typical Semite skull.

They also concluded that he was only around 150 centimetres tall and had short hair, probably with tight curls.

Sports / Tactically Outdated Mourinho Must Reinvent Himself - Just Like Guardiola by Newstac: 9:00pm On Dec 10, 2015
The Special One has used the same 4-2-3-1 formation for the last five-and-a-half years but must modernise if he is to save his job and win more major trophies

"During our first team meeting at Real Madrid, Jose Mourinho didn't talk much about tactics. In tactical terms, you just have to look at how he eliminated Barcelona in the Champions League with Inter in 2010 by playing defensive, counter-attacking football. Despite all the talented players he has had at his disposal, the recent years have shown that he has probably become outdated tactically.”

This was the damning response of an ex-Mourinho player when asked by Goal if his former Madrid mentor was to blame for Chelsea’s disastrous season.

The player in question asked to remain anonymous - he is active and may have to work with Mourinho again. But he is not alone in his criticism of the Chelsea boss. There have been numerous theories as to why the flailing Premier League champions, who sit just two points above the relegation zone following Saturday’s humiliating home loss to Bournemouth, have collapsed so spectacularly this campaign.

Is Mourinho suffering from third season syndrome? Is the dressing room broken? Is a poor summer transfer market to blame? Did the controversial departure of first team doctor Eva Carneiro affect the squad?

However, the former Madrid player's narrow focus - whether Mourinho has been at fault tactically - is not a question that has been explored in depth. There can be little argument that since taking over Real Madrid in 2010, Mourinho has not evolved in a strategic sense. During his three-year spell at the Santiago Bernabeu and his two-and-a-half seasons back at Chelsea, he has almost always utilised his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation.

But this is a system that - despite emerging as the most popular and innovative formation of the new millennium – is now out of fashion among the elite. None of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus or Atletico Madrid use it. Carlo Ancelotti quickly abandoned it after succeeding Mourinho at Madrid, although the under-fire Rafa Benitez has flirted with its return this term.

The 4-2-3-1 is still relatively popular in the Premier League, so the formation alone cannot be used as an excuse for Chelsea’s dismal domestic form – even if it could help explain why English sides have flopped in Europe in the last few years. But it is just as much how Mourinho’s players interpret their roles within this system that is hurting Chelsea.

Jose's obsession with fielding a team that is solid, organised and protected by a flat back four and two holding midfielders has not once wavered. Although Eden Hazard and Willian do have some licence to roam and switch flanks in offensive phases and Cesc Fabregas can act as a floating playmaker, the position of each player in the team is rigid. Each occupies a place on the right, the left or the centre and generally holds their position throughout the game. With such clear reference points, Chelsea are not only painfully pragmatic but also very predictable.

Top football teams today need to be far more flexible and expansive. They can’t use the same formation and occupy the same positions each game. If they do they will soon be found out, especially with so much technology and data available to analyse every movement on the pitch.

Pep Guardiola is surely the most advanced coach tactically right now. On Saturday, he selected the same Bayern Munich XI for the first time in 100 games. Last season, 10 of Mourinho’s team started at least 26 of their Premier League matches and three were ever-presents.

Attempting to decipher Pep’s formation on the pitch is virtually impossible. To Guardiola, there is no such thing as a set formation, it is all about interpreting space depending on the scenario and where the ball and opponents are. Then it is about exploiting this space by creating ‘passing lanes’ to provide multiple channels of attack in each move. As a result Bayern can line up at the centre circle in a 3-4-3 or 4-3-3, then 10 seconds later be attacking in a 2-3-5.

“We can play a back three or a back four, we can play with one or two support strikers, whatever,” captain Philipp Lahm toldGoal last month. “I don’t know how many systems we have. Our game is very flexible in any case. [A formation to us] is often only about how you write in down.”

Guardiola is a proponent of total football. He demands that his players are comfortable in any area of the pitch – and that his defenders are just as proficient going forward as they are backwards. Compare David Alaba, Philipp Lahm and Jerome Boateng starting moves from deep and pushing into midfield with Chelsea’s John Terry, Gary Cahill and Kurt Zouma, who are incapable of crossing the halfway line unless it is to go up for a corner.

Then look at Diego Costa, a lone striker with little to no lateral or off-the-ball movement – once again an easy reference point for defenders unless he is in peak condition. A big hulking target man has been a favourite of Mourinho for most of his career, with Didier Drogba his crown jewel. But, this type of physical striker may also be going out of fashion.

The best team in the world, Barcelona, employ a trio of small, skilful, interchanging forwards. Manchester City have the premier attack in England with the pint-sized Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling and David Silva buzzing around. Juventus and Atletico are building their futures around the tiny but incredibly talented Paulo Dybala and Antoine Griezmann, respectively. PSG’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Bayern’s Robert Lewandowski may be big but they are technically the equal of anyone.

Guardiola’s philosophy that players and formations need to be eclectic and adaptable is catching on. Last season, Massimiliano Allegri won the domestic double and reached the Champions League final with Juventus by deploying numerous different systems. He regularly switched from a 4-3-1-2 to a 3-5-2, 4-4-2, 4-3-2-1 and 4-3-3 – often during the same game. This ability to “change the menu”, as Patrice Evra described it, is crucial.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have little variation to their play. Indeed, this season 13 of their 28 goals in the Premier League and Champions League have come from set pieces, while many others have been via deflections or goalkeeping gaffes. Very few have been well crafted.

“Juventus are developing a system that will be used by most of the big European teams in a couple of years,” former Chelsea manager Gianluca Vialli told Tuttosport.

“Juventus are at the vanguard: they use a hybrid tactical method that highlights the individual quality, even changing tactically during the course of a single move.”

Mourinho must also embrace this change. He cannot stand still. As Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli pointed out on Tuesday: "Guardiola is constantly developing tactically". The legendary Sir Alex Ferguson was successful for so long because he was always evolving. He won the 1999 Champions League with a flat 4-4-2 formation, then changed to a 4-4-1-1, lifted another European title with a 4-3-3, before returning to a 4-4-2 to win his 13th and final Premier League title in 2013.

The 4-2-3-1 formation and Mourinho's interpretation of it is simplistic and outdated. It is no coincidence that in the last five-and-a-half years he has won five trophies (including two trophyless campaigns and no European titles), compared to the 17 he bagged in the seven years prior – which comprised of six league championships, two Champions Leagues and a Uefa Cup.

At the age of 52, the Portuguese is already one of the greatest managers the game has ever seen. But if Mourinho is to save his Chelsea job and continue winning major trophies for many more years, then he needs to demonstrate an ability to modernise and reinvent himself tactically.

Car Talk / Baidu Driverless Car Completes Test On Beijing Roads by Newstac: 5:31pm On Dec 10, 2015
Baidu- Chinese tech giant, has successfully tested its driverless car on roads near the company's headquarters in Beijing.

The 30km (18.6 miles) test route required a modified BMW 3 Series to navigate "complex road conditions", including human drivers, the firm said.

The car executed a range of manoeuvres, including U-turns, lane changes and merging into traffic from ramps.
Baidu has amassed a library of 3D road maps to guide its autonomous vehicles.

Wang Jing, senior vice-president of Baidu and general manager of the company's Autonomous Driving Business Unit had this to say - "Fully autonomous driving under mixed road conditions is universally challenging, with complexity further heightened by Beijing's road conditions and unpredictable driver behaviour."

Baidu's highly automated driving (HAD) maps capture road data in 3D to within a few centimetres of accuracy, according to the company.

The car is able to detect vehicles, road lanes and objects in its path.

Samsung shake-up

Separately, South Korean firm Samsung announced that it would be launching a new division which will make car components for automotive vehicles.

From reports gotten from BBC, The Wall Street Journal reports that the company will begin by developing in-car entertainment, or infotainment, systems.
"It sounds a sensible move for them - whether it's driver assistance or towards automation, there's going to be a lot of development of the sensors, communications and the cloud computing," Alan Stevens, at the UK's Transport Research Laboratory, told the BBC.

As for Baidu's prototype, Mr Stevens pointed out that the particular roads chosen for the test route would be indicative of the car's true capabilities. "I wonder whether we're talking about very well made-up highways with good markings, the question is how does it work in more rural areas," he said.

Self-driving derby

Competition is certainly heating up in the driverless vehicle space. Recently, German manufacturer Daimler tested a self-driving truck in motorway traffic. And a Japanese firm, Robot Taxi, has developed a plan to provide self-driving cars to people in Kanagawa, south of Tokyo, in 2016. It's not all plain sailing, however.

Google's prototype has been involved in nine crashes since testing on public roads began, though the company has said these are all the fault of humans, not the car's autonomous technology. In one incident, for example, people in a Google-piloted Lexus suffered whiplash after a human-driven car crashed into the back of it while it was waiting in traffic.

Finally, Elon Musk's high tech firm Tesla has had to limit the automatic steering and lane changing functions in its autopilot mode for drivers in Hong Kong.

A report in the International Business Times said that Hong Kong's Transport Department was still reviewing the software to ensure that it complied with the country's regulations.

Sports / Arsenal's Heaviest Defeat In European History. 5-1- Newstac by Newstac: 12:15am On Nov 05, 2015
The Gunners were outplayed and outclassed in Munich, as they slumped to their third Champions League defeat in four outings this season

Bayern Munich romped past Arsenal as a breathtaking first-half display saw the Gunners' Champions League hopes dwindle once again.

Robert Lewandowski broke the offside trap to open the scoring, before Thomas Muller bagged two and David Alaba and Arjen Robben followed suit.

It was very much a men against boys performance in the first hour of the match, as Arsenal slumped to their third Champions League defeat in four outings this season.

They will now be required to pick up wins against Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos to secure their qualification for the knockout stages.

Here is what we learned from the game. . .

Sleepy Arsenal are back to old habits

Arsenal were absolutely magnificent when these two teams first met. On the ball they were clinical and off it they ran their socks off.

It was clear from the first whistle that we were not going to be watching the same Arsenal side. The Gunners were far more reluctant to put pressure on the ball and as a result, went behind within 10 minutes.

Although the finger could be pointed at Gabriel for the first goal, Arsene Wenger will no doubt be furious at the amount of time Tiago had to pick out a perfectly-placed cross for Lewandowski to nod home.

Unfortunately, that was a sign of things to come. Tiago and Xabi Alonso enjoyed a field day in the middle of the park. Loads of time to play with minimal pressure on the ball. They ran the show.

By the time the game entered the 30th minute, Bayern were literally walking the ball into the box.

Arsenal were playing with a death wish and got the tonking their work rate deserved. It was only in the final 25 minutes, when Bayern slowed down, that Arsenal looked like any kind of a threat.

Arsenal's squad cannot cope with injuries

Tonight, it was Laurent Koscielny's absence that took the pre-match headlines, after pulling out at the last moment with a hip problem.

But Wenger has a track record of continually relying on players with a history of problems. The squad, quite simply, is not strong enough to compete with the very best in Europe when they so regularly have so many players out injured.

Just compare the benches of the two sides: Arsenal called up the likes of Alex Iwobi and Jeff Reine Adelaide, while Bayern could turn to Arjen Robben, Arturo Vidal and Rafinha.

Within seconds of coming on, Robben had bagged Bayern's fourth goal of the game.

After going behind, Arsenal had nobody in their team who they could turn to and say 'change this game'. Bayern had already pressed Sanchez and Ozil out of the game.

Wenger's faith in Campbell backfires

It may have taken 18 months to show it, but Arsene Wenger really does have faith in Joel Campbell.

Just months ago, Campbell was very much considered an outcast at the Emirates, but Wenger's rotation system and a couple of injuries have paved the way for the Costa Rican to earn his chance.

Wenger has claimed that he has always had believed in Campbell - and he was handed a vital Champions League start at the Allianz Arena days after his first Premier League goal.

He was perhaps deployed because Wenger thought Campbell would be more effective working with Mathieu Debuchy down the right side to hold off the threat of Douglas Costa than Alexis Sanchez would have been had he switched flanks.

It seemed to be a gamble which backfired. Campbell struggled on the ball and looked out of his depth against the German champs.

The lack of Theo Wacott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was evident as Arsenal failed to offer a threat down the right wing - both offensively and defensively.

Campbell was hauled off on the hour mark having made no impact on the game.

There is light at the end of the tunnel

Until the hour mark - when they were 4-0 down - Arsenal offered nothing in the final third.

But Arsene Wenger will likely be happy with the fight that his team showed in the closing stages of the match, as they were slowly allowed more time on the ball by Bayern.

Olivier Giroud was close to putting in another one of them performances. He was failing to have any meaningful impact on the game.

But one moment of brilliance saw him find the back of the net, proving that the Frenchman does still have something to offer.

Bayern's strikers were clinical as ever, with both Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller finding the net.

The pair of them both look exceptionally comfortable with the ball no matter how they receive it. At their feet or in the air, they constantly look a threat.

Lewandowski's goal was his seventh in seven Champions League appearances; Muller's strikes his sixth and seventh in six at home in the competition.

You look at Giroud and you know that he has the ability to be a top goalscorer, but he's just not got the same consistency levels as Bayern's duo.

Pep Guardiola led another Bayern masterclass

It's an opinion you have probably heard before: 'Pep Guardiola has only taken over great teams'.

It's true. He took a great core of Barcelona players when he first took the Nou Camp helm and he did the same when he was named as Bayern boss.

But the secret to Guardiola's success is not solely down to the calibre of players on the pitch (although it certainly helps). Their success is down to their immense discipline - which all stems from Guardiola.

He has drilled some of the most technically gifted players in the world to graft off the ball and they stopped Arsenal from having the freedom to play.

Very rarely did an Arsenal player get time to think on the ball. It's the high intensity approach off the ball that gives Bayern the upper hand in matches - just as Barcelona did under the Spaniard.

Guardiola is this generation's 'invincible'. Who knows what he could do in the Premier League.

Here are different opinions about the match on twitter:

@gooner8girl- I knew it was going to be bad, but 5? That's just embarrassing. I hope they take the frustration out on spurs

@joek_lib- Cech should endeavour to take pain relief drug after the match, even frog never jump reach this level

@dreamteamfc- foiled again, Arsene... foiled again

@willuvoh- The fear of losing 5-1..."I don't want to Arsene Weng"

@mplsharp- does wearing Arsenal pants and socks not count for anything anymore? It's as if my underwear has no bearing on my teams result. Awful

In other Champions League action:
Barcelona vs BATE 3-0
Roma vs Bayern Leverkusen 3-2
Olympiakos vs Dinamo 2-1
Chelsea vs Dynamo 2-1
Maccabi vs Porto 1-3
Gent vs Valencia 1-0
Lyon vs Zenit 0-2

Health / 2 Year Old Boy At Risk Of Infection After Chewing Used Condom With Wafer- Newsta by Newstac: 10:49am On Oct 22, 2015
Credits to www.thehealthprof.com

A 2-year-old boy in Russia is undergoing testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) after he ate a packaged wafer that had part of a used condom in it.

Central European News (CEN) reported that Rayaz Khakimullin, of Kazan, in central Russia, had been eating his favorite snack when his mother noticed something else in his mouth. She demanded that he spit it out then was horrified to discover he had been chewing part of a condom that had been used.

“I am very concerned about my son’s health,” Guzel Khakimullin, Rayaz’s mother, told CEN. “It is disheartening how a package of sweets can contain something like that.”

Authorities aren’t sure how the condom got into the packaged food. Guzel is demanding that all of the company’s products be recalled because the rest of the condom could be in other wafer packages.

"This can happen to any other kid,” she told the news website. “I want to do as much as I can to prevent it."

CEN did not report the brand of the wafer, but 'The Health Prof' strongly believe that the company would be prosecuted and those involved be brought to justice.

I hereby use this medium to advice parents to be mindful of what their kids eat and also make that extra effort to ensure that what they take in is safe to consume.

Pets / British Man Removes Ears In Quest To Look More Like Pet Parrots- Newstac by Newstac: 9:26am On Oct 20, 2015
A man who has undergone multiple surgeries to look more like his pet parrots has recovered from his latest procedure, which involved cutting off his ears.

Ted Richards, who lives in the United Kingdom, with his pet parrots, Ellie, Teaka, Timneh, Jack and Bubi, has 110 tattoos, 50 piercings and a split tongue, news.com.au reported. The 56-year-old is planning his next procedure ,which would aim to make his nose resemble a beak.

“There’s no doubt that when they made me they broke the mold,” Richards told the news station. He began his journey in 1976 with his first tattoo, and he has since graduated to tattooing his face with colored feathers and whites of his eyes.

Richards said the procedure to remove his ears tool six hours, and he has begun dating a woman since recovering.

“I went to the supermarket the other day and I went in I said, ‘Blimey, it’s so windy out there; it blew my ears off,’ and everyone had a chuckle,” he told news.com.au.

“But seriously I love the fact that I’m unique, and I have always wanted to be different,” he said.

Richards told the news station he laughs off critics. He said the only negative comments he receives are those from people who also want the procedures performed but aren’t able to find a surgeon or from competing artists he didn’t have work done by.

“I know I’m going to get the white coat people coming around saying it’s completely illegal,” he told news.com.au. “They say we can’t do what we want to do to make us look like we want to. But my argument is what is stopping me going abroad and having cosmetic surgery done by an iffy surgeon, coming back here, having complications and getting the NHS to sort them out free of charge?”

Richards said he gave his ears to someone who will preserve them and put them on display.

Health / Watching Movies Could Help Treat Children With Lazy Eye- Newstac by Newstac: 4:02pm On Oct 19, 2015
Credits to www.thehealthprof.com

Amblyopia, or "lazy eye," affects around 2-3 in every 100 children taking the US as a case study. This makes it the most common cause of visual impairment in childhood. But a new study suggests there may be a simple treatment option for the condition that children are unlikely to object to: watching movies.

Amblyopia is caused by any condition that stops an eye from focusing clearly. A common cause is when one eye is unable to focus as effectively as the other, through nearsightedness, farsightedness or if one eye has more astigmatism - the inability to focus on far or near objects due to the abnormal shape of the cornea.

Strabismus can also be a cause of amblyopia, whereby both eyes are misaligned, as can cataract - a clouding of the lens that can cause blurred vision.

The most common form of treatment for amblyopia among children is the placement of a patch over the stronger eye for several weeks or months, forcing the weaker eye to be used instead. This treatment helps vision-related parts of the brain develop more effectively, stabilizing eyesight.

However, Dr. Birch and colleagues say there is an increasing amount of research investigating the use of dichoptic therapy for the treatment of amblyopia, which involves presenting different images to each eye individually.

Dichoptic therapy is usually combined with perceptual learning tasks or games. While research has shown such therapy to be effective for improving vision in children with amblyopia, Dr. Birch and her team note that children often become bored of these tasks or find them too complicated, and home-based compliance to the treatment is low.

With this in mind, the team investigated the efficacy of a potentially more fun and engaging approach to dichoptic therapy among children: watching popular animated movies.

Improvement in vision after just 9 hours of dichoptic movie viewing

The researchers enrolled eight children with amblyopia between the ages of 4-10 years, and the children were required to watch three dichoptic movies each week for 2 weeks on a passive 3D screen while wearing 3D cinema glasses.

During the movies, each eye was shown an image of abnormally shaped blobs that veiled different sections of the film; the blobs viewed by one eye were an inversion of the blobs viewed by the other eye, allowing the children to see the screen with binocular vision, whereby signals from both eyes reach the brain.

The team notes that the images shown to the amblyopic eye were high contrast, while those shown to the stronger eye were low contrast. This imbalance helped to prevent suppression of the amblyopic eye and allow binocular vision.

By the end of the 2-week period, all children showed a significant improvement in visual activity. "Children achieved one to four lines of improvement in visual acuity with just six sessions (9 hours) of dichoptic movie viewing over 2 weeks," says Dr. Birch.

She notes that in comparison, 120 hours of patching treatment normally only results in one line of improvement in visual activity among children with amblyopia who have already been treated with glasses for 12-16 weeks.

While the team says further research is required to determine how long improvements in visual activity last with dichoptic treatment involving movies, the early results are promising. Dr. Birch adds:

"If these preliminary results are confirmed in a controlled clinical trial, passive viewing of dichoptic feature films could be useful as a primary, supplemental, or maintenance treatment for amblyopia."

Nairaland / General / The Dangerous Art Of The Ultimate Selfie- Newstac by Newstac: 2:09pm On Oct 15, 2015
If you thought 2014 was the year of the selfie you are wrong, it was just the beginning. 2015 could be dubbed the year of the health and selfie.

It's a dreadful pun but it illustrates a growing and serious problem - people are literally dying to take a picture of themselves.

In Russia this year there have been a handful of selfie-related fatalities, including the death of two men in the Ural Mountains who posed for a photo while pulling the pin from a hand grenade. And, in June, a university graduate died after trying to take a selfie while hanging from a Moscow bridge.
Most recently a 17-year-old boy fell to his death from a rooftop as he tried to take his picture for his Instagram page.
He had previously taken a number of similar pictures of himself posing on high rooftops in the city of Vologda.

The problem isn't just limited to Russia. In the US recently a man died after shooting himself in the neck while taking a selfie.

At least 12 people have died this year while taking pictures of themselves making the practice more deadly than shark attacks, of which there have only been eight recorded deaths in 2015, according to tech news site Mashable.

The statistic is creating very real problems for governments.
In August, officials at the Waterton Canyon in Colorado were forced to close the park after several people were caught getting a little too close to the wildlife. "We've actually seen people using selfie sticks to try and get as close to the bears as possible, sometimes within 10 feet [3 metres]," said recreation manager Brandon Ransom in a blog. And, at Yellowstone National Park, officials issued a warning after five separate incidents of selfie-takers being gored by bison.

In Australia, a rock that looks like a wedding cake was fenced off because too many people were climbing it to take pre or post-wedding photos of themselves.

While in Russia, in response to the number of deaths there, the Interior Ministry launched a campaign warning that "self-photography could cost you your life". "A selfie with a weapon kills," the brochure read. The accompanying poster campaign listed dangerous places to take a selfie.

15-minute fame

So why are some people willing to risk their life to take the ultimate selfie? It may come down to pure bravado, thinks Lee Thompson - whose snap of himself on top of the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janiero went viral in June 2014.
"People see pictures like mine and see how they spread across the world and see a way to make themselves famous for 15 minutes," Newstac gathers from BBC.

A professional photographer, Mr Thompson admits that the picture he took was done as a publicity stunt for his travel company, Flashpack. He did, however, get permission to climb the statue. "I'm not a serial selfie-taker - this shot was to publicise my business. It was the shot I knew I had to get because people love selfies," Newstac gathers from BBC.

He admits that the trend towards ever more dangerous selfies is "getting out of control". "Be creative with your pictures but don't put yourself in danger," he advised.

Narcissists

According to research published by the Ohio State University, the pictures that people post on social media can tell an interesting story about their personality. Hundreds of tests on people's social media habits were conducted for the study, which showed that people who post a lot of selfies also tend to score higher in traits of narcissism and psychopathy.

Lead researcher Jesse Fox said that, for many, a dangerous selfie is worth it for the number of likes and comments it will generate. "Likes are a quantifiable way of measuring popularity and these days it isn't enough to just post a picture of yourself, because everyone is doing that. The more extreme it is, the more likely you are to stand out and get lots of likes and comments."

The rise of the selfie as an art form has not gone unnoticed by manufacturers such as Asus, which recently launched a phone dubbed the ZenFone Selfie, that as the name suggests, comes with a powerful camera. But it too is sensitive to the issue of risk-taking selfies and its marketing of the device in France came with a poster campaign similar to that of the Russian government, pointing out places where taking a selfie would be ill-advised - including in front of trains, in cars and with bears.

Shark selfie?

Despite the publicity, there doesn't appear to be any let-up in the amount of death-defying selfies being taken, nor people's appetite to look at them.

A video on YouTube, compiling what it describes as the "25 most dangerous selfies ever", has been viewed over 20 million times. It includes examples of a man taking a selfie while a bull charges at him, a man posing with a lion, someone taking a picture in front of a train and a woman taking a selfie of herself and her toddler while driving.

James Kingston's picture of himself hanging off a crane came in at number three.

The list also features several self-portraits with sharks which had gone viral but which the video exposes as fakes.

Selfies may have become more dangerous than shark attacks but it seems that even the most intrepid self-shooter draws the line at a picture with a Great White.

Car Talk / Toyota & Google Expects Self-driving Cars To Hit The Road By 2020- Newstac by Newstac: 7:12am On Oct 08, 2015
The self-driving car talks continues as the market is beginning to rev up. Japanese car maker Toyota on Tuesday announced that it planned to have self-driving cars commercially available by 2020 -- the same year Nissan, General Motors and Google plan to have autonomous vehicles on the road.

Toyota revealed that it has been testing its self-driving technology with a car called the Highway Teammate, a modified Lexus GS that's been cruising around Tokyo's busy Shuto Expressway. It has safely and successfully been changing lanes and merging into or exiting out of highways, all completely autonomously.

The Japanese automotive manufacturer is branding its self-driving technology the Mobility Teammate Concept. "Interactions between drivers and cars should mirror those between close friends who share a common purpose," the company said in a statement, "sometimes watching over each other and sometimes helping each other out.

A good deal of noise has emerged from the prospective autonomous car market this year. Google, after many years of testing out the technology, revealed its intentions to release smart automobiles for sale in the next five years.

There have been rumours that iPhone maker Apple hopes to enter the car market in 2019, with The Wall Street Journal reporting recently that the Cupertino, California-based company is readying an electronic, partially-self-driving vehicle. It's not only tech companies -- automakers old and new are developing self-driving cars too. Nissan has also pegged 2020 as the year it releases its first autonomous vehicle, while Telsa CEO Elon Musk said on Tuesday at the Vanity Fair Summit that self-driving cars are " two or three years away. "

Tuesday's announcement comes after Toyota invested $50 million (AU$69 million or £33 million) in artificial intelligence research in the hopes, it said, of making driving safer. The money will be be split between Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which will build two joint research centres.

The company is expected to reveal more details of its self-driving cars at the Tokyo Motor Show, which opens its doors on October 29.

Health / The Truth About Almond Milk: They're Not All Created Equal by Newstac: 4:30pm On Oct 07, 2015
Credits to www.thehealthprof.com
Aside from being dairy-free, almond milk contains protein, calcium, vitamins, and sometimes even fiber—if you choose the right one. Choose the wrong almond milk, and you might end up with some unexpected ingredients like additives and sugar. Here's how to navigate the many options:

Go Unsweetened

"When choosing an almond milk, you want to look for a few things," says dietitian and creator of the F-Factor Diet Tanya Zuckerbrot. "First, it is important to opt for the unsweetened varieties, preferably original or natural vanilla flavor because sweetened and flavored almond milk can add a lot of unnecessary calories and carbohydrates." The best bet is an almond milk that lists zero grams of sugar per serving and has no sugar or sweeteners in the ingredients list.

Pay Attention to Additives

There's an ingredient in many almond milk brands called carrageneen, a thickening agent derived from seaweed. While most people have no issues with it, "some studies suggest it may be harmful to the GI tract," says Zuckerbrot. Again, this is just a remote possibility, but if you have any sort of digestion issues or find that your almond milk isn't agreeing with you, Zuckerbrot says your best bet is to find an almond milk brand that is carrageenan-free.

Consider Extra Nutrients

If you are just now switching from regular milk to almond milk, "it is a good idea to choose brands with extra protein added," says Zuckerbrot. When transitioning away from dairy (which can be a great source of protein and calcium), it's important to ensure you're still getting enough of both nutrients. Many brands of almond milk have added protein, calcium, and even fiber.

Crime / Islamic State Ties Widen Reach Of Boko Haram - Newstac by Newstac: 9:27am On Oct 02, 2015
Nigeria predicts that Boko Haram will soon be defeated, but the militant group's ties with Islamic State mean that would probably push the fighters further into neighbouring countries.

The Nigerian military has been in overdrive in trying to control the narrative of its war against Boko Haram in recent weeks. It says it has cornered the jihadists and the conflict will soon be over - in line with its mandate from President Muhammadu Buhari to end the crisis by mid-November.

Boko Haram's eccentric frontman Abubakar Shekau has not appeared in a video since February, when he threatened to disrupt the elections. The following month he pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group (IS) in an audio message and since IS also reached out to their Nigerian counterpart, Shekau has taken a back seat.

Shekau has released similar audio clips to disprove reports about his death, although the fact that he is not visible leaves room for speculation among the army that they have killed him, as they have claimed on several occasions. His retreat from the forefront signifies that Boko Haram, also known as IS West Africa Province, now takes orders from the further up the IS hierarchy.

Nonetheless, there was recently room for another message to once again defy the Nigerian government, which sparked the realisation in the military that this game of cat-and-mouse was going nowhere.

Defence spokesman Colonel Rabe Abubakar described Shekau as "irrelevant" and urged Nigerians not to "not to lose sleep over the concocted audio rhetoric of the waning terrorist sect which is a usual antic of a drowning person struggling to hold on to anything to remain afloat".

Overall, Boko Haram's propaganda campaign has waned since the beginning of the year, when it used social media to promote sleek videos showing speeches and attacks. The latest video, released to coincide with the Eid al-Adha festival in late September, is poorly produced and appears to show fighters praying but there is no indication of how recent all the footage is.

It has been two years since the US placed a $7m (£4.5m) bounty on Shekau's head but neither he nor his top commanders have been found. As long as that is not achieved, the group will be able to rethink its strategy, recruit, rearm and develop new methods of operating.

The jihadists have shown that they can continue to inflict significant damage even with few but deadly explosions. In one recent triple attack, they killed dozens of people in Maiduguri, the city where they were formed in 2002.

Boko Haram at a glance

Founded in 2002, initially focused on opposing Western-style education - Boko Haram means "Western education is forbidden" in the Hausa language

Launched military operations in 2009

Thousands killed, mostly in north-eastern Nigeria, hundreds abducted, including at least 200 schoolgirls Joined so-called Islamic State, now calls itself IS's "West African province"

Seized large area in north-east, where it declared caliphate

Regional force has retaken most territory this year

The global concern for the missing Chibok schoolgirls still gives Boko Haram a bargaining chip. The news of their abduction grabbed the world's attention in a way the deaths of thousands before were unable to.

The resulting scrutiny, as well as criticism from human rights organisations, means that the Nigerian military has taken a more cautious approach to the conflict than it did in the early days, when there were frequent allegations that the military was involved in widespread human rights abuses.

The new chain of command means that it is now more difficult than ever before for the insurgent group to agree to dialogue with the government As the conflict escalated, Nigeria needed cooperation from its neighbours to secure the borders but this would inevitably come at a cost for Cameroon, Chad and Niger.

Each of these allies has now been attacked, as the IS militants look to extend their reach in West Africa.
Nigeria remains a priority for the Islamist fighters but what was initially a local conflict is changing.

If indeed Boko Haram is defeated in Nigeria, the very fact that the group is now part of a wider international network means the campaign of violence could very well escalate in the neighbouring countries, particularly Chad and Niger, which have broader expanses of land, far more porous borders and are closer to Libya, where IS began its expansion on continental Africa.

For now, the coalition of the African Union-backed Multinational Joint Task Force should be reminded that a wane in the intensity of Boko Haram attacks says little about the strength of the group as a whole. While aiming to end the conflict, President Buhari should learn from the mistakes of his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, who gave a series of failed deadlines to defeat the militants.

Mr Buhari's government, like many Nigerians, will be hoping for a speedy resolution but by now they know better than to be naive.

Phones / Lg’s V10 Doubles Up On Screens And Selfie Cameras - Newstac by Newstac: 12:09pm On Oct 01, 2015
September has been full of major phone announcements, and LG has decided to join the party with just a few days to spare. The company just announced a new premium phone called the V10 less than a day ahead of a scheduled event in New York City. It's the first phone in the company's new "V" line of phones, which bumps up a few key specs while ditching plastic for more premium materials.

The new V10 isn't terribly different from LG's flagship G4 on the inside. It has the same (removable) 3,000 mAh battery, the same Snapdragon 808 processor, and the same 16-megapixel rear camera. (There is an extra gigabyte of RAM, however). On the outside, though, the V10 appears to have left the G4's curved display behind for a flat one. The phone's also built out of higher-grade materials, with LG opting for stainless steel and silicone over plastic.

There are also a few other particularly distinguishing features, some of which are pretty wild. First, there are two screens on the front of the device. There's the main, 5.7-inch QHD display, and just above that is a much smaller "always on" screen that can do a number of things. When the main screen is off, the second screen can display the weather, time and date, and battery level. When the main screen is on, the second screen can be used to for quick-launching apps, accessing favorite contacts, or serve up notifications. All in all, it sounds like it works a lot like the Edge screen found on Samsung's Galaxy S6 and Note Edge devices.

Next to that second screen is not one, but two front-facing cameras. Both are of the 5-megapixel variety, but one has a fairly wide field of view of 120 degrees while the other is a bit more narrow, measuring just 80 degrees. The different fields of view mean that the two cameras can't be used to create 3D images, but LG does say that the V10 has software that can combine images taken concurrently by the two lenses.

THE PHONE IS ALL NEW, BUT THERE ARE ECHOES OF THE G4

The V10 shares the same camera as LG's G4, but it appears that the company is pushing the camera's software capabilities this time around — especially when it comes to shooting video. (The announcement even goes so far as to say that LG hopes the V10 will do "for video what the G4 did for photographs."wink V10 users will have full manual control over things like shutter speed, ISO, white balance, focus, and frame rate. The V10 can shoot video in HD, FHD, or UHD resolution, and there's even an option to shoot in a 21:9 aspect ratio. The camera also has both optical and electronic image stabilization.

LG's new V10 sounds a lot like the G4, but with enough bumps in performance and material that you'd expect a higher price. And while it wouldn't be surprising if the V10 commands more at retailers than the G4 does, LG is holding off on announcing pricing for now. All we know is that the new phone will be available in South Korea this month, and will make it to the US, China, and a few other countries soon thereafter. The V10 will be available in five colors — black, white, beige, and two different blues — and will come in one storage variant (64GB).

Car Talk / Tesla's New Model X Has A 'bioweapon defense mode' button - Newstac by Newstac: 1:34pm On Sep 30, 2015
This is a real button,' Musk says

If you want to survive a biological attack, you might want to look into buying a Tesla. The company just officially unveiled the Model X, and Elon Musk shared a rather unexpected feature during the unveiling: a "bioweapon defense mode" button.

"This is a real button," said Musk, who was all too ready to have to defend the existence of the outrageous feature. He was in the middle of discussing how clean the Model X is when it comes to air quality both in and out of the car (the air cleanliness is "on the levels of a hospital room," he said) when things got dark.

THE MODEL X IS 800 TIMES BETTER AT FILTERING VIRUSES THAN OTHER CARS

The button should come in handy "if there’s ever an apocalyptic scenario of some kind," he said. All you apparently have to do is push the button and the Model X's air filter — which is about 10 times larger than a normal car's air filter— should be able to keep you safe. The company claims it's 300 times better at filtering bacteria, 500 times better at filtering allergens, 700 times better at filtering smog, and 800 times better at filtering viruses.

"We’re trying to be a leader in apocalyptic defense scenarios," Musk continued. Because what else do you want from a futuristic, semi-autonomous, all-electric car that's as fast as a Porsche than the ability to survive biological warfare?

Health / The Health Prof: The Price We Pay For Sitting Too Much- Newstac by Newstac: 9:26am On Sep 30, 2015
Via www.healthprof. com

New research is helping medical experts devise formulas for how long a typical office worker should spend sitting and standing.

Studies have found that sedentary behavior, including sitting for extended periods, increases the risk for developing dozens of chronic conditions, from cancer and diabetes to cardiovascular disease and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Some ergonomics experts warn that too much standing also can have negative effects on health, including a greater risk for varicose veins, back and foot problems, and carotid artery disease.

“The key is breaking up your activity throughout the day,” said Alan Hedge, a professor of ergonomics at Cornell University. “Sitting all day and standing all day are both bad for you,” he said.

For every half-hour working in an office, people should sit for 20 minutes, stand for eight minutes and then move around and stretch for two minutes, Dr. Hedge recommends, based on a review of studies that he has presented at corporate seminars and expects to publish. He says standing for more than 10 minutes tends to cause people to lean, which can lead to back problems and other musculoskeletal issues.

The British Journal of Sports Medicine earlier this year published guidelines for sitting from an international panel of experts, including Dr. Hedge. The panel recommends a combined two to four hours of standing and light activity spread throughout the workday. And research from NASA has found that standing up for two minutes 16 times a day while at work is an effective strategy for maintaining bone and muscle density, Dr. Hedge says.

“The current scientific evidence shows that when people have occupations in which they are on their feet for more than two hours a day, there seems to be a reduction in the risk of developing key chronic diseases,” said John Buckley, a professor of applied exercise science at the University of Chester in England and lead author of the published guidelines. Among the guidelines’ eight authors, one of the other panel members disclosed a competing interest as owner of a website that sells sit-stand work products.

Other research aims to find ways to mitigate the adverse effects of too much sitting. A curious study, published last week in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, looked at fidgeting.

The researchers examined data from the UK Women’s Cohort Study, which has followed a large group of women for about 20 years. Nearly 13,000 of the women were asked to rate on a scale of 1 to 10 how much they fidget. Among women who were rated as the most sedentary, those who fidgeted a lot had the same risk of dying as those who weren’t especially sedentary. But women who didn’t fidget had an increased risk for mortality.
