will it accept windows applications? becos windows base application are all round the market and we use them everyday so i think that is the advantage microsoft have over others, take ubuntu linux for example, after installation i counld nt install any of my favourite window programmes, so let them know what they are doing
Na wah for una o! Una really sabi argue no be smaaaallllll,

See, even Windows doesn't ordinarily run on a linux. You have to use a middleware such as "Wine", or a virtualization tool called "VMware" to run Windows apps on a Linux machine. You can google them up to download them for your curiosity's sake. So why must you crucify Google OS so quickly and harshly?

I trust they have this issue of cross-platform operability of softwares in mind before they release their OS into the market. So, guys, shorei o!

I'd even say that what the world needs right now is lighter technology. Believe me guys, I believe quite soon, we are gonna a computer we can fold as neatly as my handkerchief! I know, and believe so. Maybe my company will take care of that.

But the lighter the OS becomes, the better for it we'll be. That is another reason I love Google Corporation: they are very trendy. They flow with the times. Bet me, younger generations might become the major users of "Google Chrome" OS.

Well,
If Google moves quickly enough AND are well funded, THEN maybe in 10 years time they will come up with an OS that can actually compete with Windows 95.

Its just a flash, IF you need a real OS, go for Microsoft. Google OS wont be any better than what you can get from your phone
My dear, it is not a matter of years or funding when it comes to developing a quality product, especially technological products. The most important elements are tow-fold: An outstanding idea mixed with plenty of creativity and uniqueness, and secondly, the right people to implement these ideas. Google Corporation is just made! Even the funding you are talking about, dey get am boku, plenty! plenty!

I just detect a little rigidity in most of us on this thread, else, I really don't see any need for furthur argument.

N.B: You say that their OS is just flash hunh? Let me repeat it to you like I said earlier on on this thread: the major population of PC users don't bother about the technicality behind a product. They love the brand! The brand, the brand! Let's catch this, please?

Personally, I'm in love with the Google brand, and I am sure (without any offense meant at anyone at all) that most of us here prefer to use "Google Search" to other search engines. Because we just love it! Besides "Google Search" is damn good!

Thank you once more for this opportunity,

My dear, the road is verrrrryyyyyy farrrrrrrrrrrrrr. To be as precise as possible, you can ply two routes: the easy way and the hard way.

The easy way? Learn how to use a Web authoring software. I'd recommend Adobe Dreamweaver or Microsoft Frontpage. They are plenty of even easier ones, but for these ones that I recommended, you will easily find online tutorials and communities to help you when you hit difficulties.

The hard way (which is far more professional for my preference) is to learn the languages that drive the web. First of all and most importantly, learn HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language), which if you right-click on this page now and click on "view source", you'll see what I mean. After HTML, learn CSS for formatting skills. Then proceed to javascript for added functionalities. Infact, you have a lot to learn but just start from somewhere. Start from somewhere. Don't rush it. Decide and start from somewhere,

(For the hard way, the best website I'd recommend to you is the w3c tutorial website: www.w3schools.com )

Most of us might ask what this war is all about? Let me expose the light here.

Ira.nians went to the voting booth on Friday, June 12th, for their 10th presidential election since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Their decision was largely whether to keep hard-line president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in power for four more years, or to replace him with a reformist more open to loosening the country's Islamic restrictions and improving ties with the United States. Ahmadinejad's leading opponent is Mir Hossein Mousavi, a former Prime Minister of Ira.n. Mousavi's campaign was propelled in recent weeks by young voters using high-tech campaign tactics (over 66% of Ira.nians are under the age of 30). Ira'ns presidential elections are tightly controlled, and, once elected, the office holder has limited power, but it remains the highest position determined by popular vote.

So now that it seems that the former president has won, citizens suspect a rigged and manipulated election. Using DDOS attacks primarily as their weapon of cyber-warfare, citizens have been attacking and shutting down goverment websites and computers. Twitter is the social networking service they use to make this thing happen.

Guys, are you seeing how a technological country voices out their grievances?

Now, believe me when I say that in all my experience (as much as the years have given me), hacking has been fun to me but my conscience has always been judging me as well. Do you really think that the term "ethical hacking" is sane? Is it a clever phrase to cover the plethora of learning exactly all the skills a malicious hacker would know, all in the name of "hacking for good".

Guys, enlighten me.

My dear, to be honest with you, it isn't actually a matter of which "programme" or "cert" to acquire. You need to define a career path for yourself on time. Define your path by judging where your interest actually lies. Is your passion inclined best towards handling databases, or being creative with programming software applications, or even getting muddy and dirty with computer hardware? Web design/development nko? Who even told you there networking isn't cool, labour-market wise?!

Define your interest first, then start working on building your career path. These days, companies look at more than just a N+ and/ or a CCNA if you are into Networking. You have to be diversified in your area of specialty. And inorder not to be worried over the cost and time you will into acquiring really competitive certifications in your chosen area of specialty, you have to enjoy what you are doing. In IT, once you learn to have fun at what you do in whatever area you choose, your creativity and imagination will make companies chase you up and down. When you have fun at your job, people will seize to justify your value and skills by your certifications and qualifications. Presently, I haven't completed my degree (in Theatre Arts for Christ's sake!) but my skills in programming (ASSEMBLY, PHP and Python basically) and ethical soiling skills open doors for me. I'm even less than 21!

Get it?

Discover the first love that attracted you to the world of IT, and just have fun doing it. If the money comes first in your mind, you will lose out. It's like: Seek ye first the kingdom of personal/intellectual satisfaction, and every other thing will come running after you!!!

Whether Google Chrome is a new Linux OS or not, the success lies in the branding, not in the technical "techspeak" we programmers understand. The "Google" brand is made!

A country in the middle east is on digital hell right now, following an election (political) that no one is satisfied with. Please, let's go to: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/06/13/iran-demonstrations-viole_n_215189.html for the most current, up-to-date info about this development.

@ElRazur
There are already existing open source that is probably as good, but hardly has it given MS a headache. How you arrive at that, I am interested.
Men, you don't get it yet? Google is deliberately flexing muscles with Microsoft. I don't know exactly why they are so opposed to Microsoft (you know, background [boardroom politics]) but Google intends to fully utilize what they have that MIcrosoft can't really boast of: loyal fans!

Microsoft may seem to have fans of her own, but 75 - 80 percent of them don't really enjoy the expensive monopoly that Microsoft exercises through their WINDOWS OS. If Linux, which is open-source was less technical, it would have been popular among the general population. But it ain't!

I trust that Google's incoming desktop and WEB OS (which I am so enthusiastic about) will rock the world. Microsoft fans: AWAIT LIBERATION SOONNNNN!!!!!

Guys, in terms of a stronger branding and CR (Customer Relations), Google Corporation may not equal Microsoft but regarding customer-friendliness, Google tops the list over Microsoft! What am I trying to say? When Google rolls out a strong OS from the competent hands of their powerful programming team, people will flock immediately. Chikena!

God help Microsoft IF Google makes their OS open-source, I'll really console Mr Gates.

Python is quite easier to start with than Java (my personal preference though). It is better inclined towards being Natural language like your normal English than Java. The final decision is yours. Perhaps you should rather check it out? cheesy
