I sent money to Ukpayahor on the morning of two days ago for the freezer he advertised here. He immediately told me he is going from Warri to Portharcourt where the freezer is to send to me. I called him yesterday afternoon since I didn't hear from him, he told me he was on the road but he had said he was leaving day before yesterday. In the evening I called him again to know if he had arrived and how he is sending the freezer to me? he refused to pick my calls. Today I called him in the morning he also refused to pick my calls. I sent him WhatsApp message asking if he has put the freezer on the way to me, he didn't read it though he was online, then I sent him another message that I will start working on his case if he doesn't give me any tangible thing by 10am before he responded that I should be patient he will get back to me. I don't know why I should be patient indefinitely? I also don't know if it's the freezer I sent money for or the one I want to beg for that he will get back to me on as I am yet to see why he prioritize himself here? It seemed he came to collect money to settle himself while I should stand still till he decides otherwise because he is running his life like nothing happened.

He transacted with me on 09021498333 which he also uses to run his WhatsApp TV called " the sweet spot". The first few times I called, it was his live in girlfriend who picked, apparently they run their shiit together and she is very much in the know, also it was her account he asked me to send money into.

I'm giving him little time to clear himself before I bring more details on him. Below is picture of him and his girlfriend whose account received my money.

The way you deal is different from the way I deal so my friend you just know yourself but you don't have knowledge of other.. I have buy things more than used car, I've made mistake in the past which I have learnt from it, adjust and rebrand myself. I don't rush and take my time whenever I want to buy things, I am outspoken and state my own terms and conditions, you state yours if I'm cool with it I buy if not I let go.. I bought a charger sometimes ago, I told the seller that I have bought lots which turn out fake and got burnt, he was sure of what he wanted to sell and told him to make a voice record if it got burnt within some time he will bear the cost and change it.. He felt reluctant and later did it and I took his pics with my phone.. Till now the charger is still working.

Go up and read very well, then you will understand me more, like I said earlier the buyer and seller have to come to a conclusion/agreement, if you turn on the gen for me for 3 hrs and I'm okay with the items, thats cool if I'm not okay I can state my conditions if your cool with it fine, if your not, you state yours.. If at the end of the day no conclusion from both parties, you hold your items and I hold my money simple.. I do buy things a lot and if I'm buying a car from you, you have to sign an agreement for me that what you said is wrong with the car is only the fault if you can I won't, if you told me everything about the car and its just as you told me or I detect minor fault I can't let go if not I will come back with the agreement you signed and you have to find solution or refund my money.

You are clearly confusing this situation with the warranty clause that comes with a brand new item. Even warranty clauses in Nigeria is not even honoured most times.

We are on the same page, the way you present yourself and manner of approach really matters in transacting and for this the seller really screwed up big time but I don't want yo be a judge cos both of them to me are trying to claim innocent and at one point in time, they both called each others first and last time. What happened already happened and not in every situations customer are right as long as there is terms/rules of operations. Both are at fault, both are trying to claim right and want us to see them as An Angel. If you have deal on offer up, the some sellers there sell refurbish or fake product, if your not able to confirm the authenticity of the product especially phones, then your on your own

I agree that there should be some terms of transaction. It doesnt matter who was right or wrong in this case. I'm only saying, this matter would not have escalated if the right steps were taken to resolve it privately. The buyer has lessons to learn as well, but most times when an issue is dragged online, the seller suffers. So the seller should not assume they don't have to take precaution also.

The best lawyers try to resolve an issue before it gets to court. Even if either one of them is right 100%, their manner of approach would determine how the judge/jury sees the case. The best sellers adopt this form of approach. I have bought some things on Nairaland and can attest to good sellers who have given me items that broke down immediately I got home, their conduct and honesty during and after the sale makes me overlook the issue, especially if it's a minor case I can fix with the help of a local artisan. After all a used item is not supposed to be as pristine and perfect as new and that's why it costs less. In this case, the seller could have courteously explained why the item is not liable for a refund or offered some form of settlement (even if they are sure the buyer won't take it) instead of initially ignoring or claiming the user spoilt the item themselves. Even if the initial silence was for a genuine reason, his conduct after eventually showing up would put any buyer off immediately. You were nice before the sale, begging the rider not to leave until you have had a chance to show how the item works, why turn bitter afterwards because of a complaint? insulting the buyer and even bringing the sellers husband/family into the public show of shame is only painting yourself in bad light. Businesses thrive on reputation.

That said, I'm happy they are working on resolving the issue. We look forward to more responsible transactions on this platform and others.

I understand you perfectly but this is used item and there is always terms/conditions for every vendors. If an item is taken, there is a certain time frame a complaint can be made and every body knows you have to test an items before you take it home. So the mistakes is from both the seller and buyer but more on the buyer, let's just state the fact. If you tested an item and your not okay with it then no matter what the seller says its your right not buy so like I Still said, since there is not middlemen(escrow) the buy and seller have to come to a term before transacting and a writing or recording evidence must be on record. Like I said I'm not in support nor against. We just need to learn which I have learn this in a hard way now I work more with terms and conditions than just taking a sellers word.

It’s not like selling on the streets where the seller can deny the buyer and claim he never gave a receipt so never met the buyer. You have to keep in mind that this is social media and with the history of online fraud spanning close to 20 years, Nigerians have been wired to suspect everyone they meet online and have developed a system for protecting themselves.

So if you don’t show concerted effort to make your customer happy, even the slightest issue could tick the buyer off and buyer’s remorse will set in. You can be sure they will be going back online to taint your image/get justice. That is why a seller should be careful to make the customer happy, even if the customer is wrong in deed, customer is always right in theory. Show concern for their plight, they might eventually tell you not to bother that they will fix the item themselves. It’s dangerous to annoy them, buyers most times are anonymous and as such have no reputation to protect as such, you the seller have a business to run and should therefore thread carefully and be professional at all times.

Learn from the folks in 1st world countries how they handle such issues (for example eBay). The seller knows how feedback works and seeks to solve problems not compound them.

That is just the truth, the seller manner of approach is very bad, at the same time the buyer too should know if he went to market to buy from this electronics store, once she buying used item and she tested it there without a concrete agreement(written agreement) with the seller at the store, she is own his own. So this matter should be a study case for us here to always state our terms and conditions if it suits both parties.

Things like this won't resolve through a one-sided effort.

I'm not in support or against but electrical go go faulty at any time even with warranty.. Anybody buying used items must have it at the back of his mind that he/she is gambling that's why it need to be tested and apart from testing come to agreement with the seller that within so period if the item developed faults, the seller either refunds or repair??

Have you contacted the neighbour to verify the claims? If they admit the item was faulty why not arrange to have the item returned to the neighbour and a refund given to the buyer?

If the neighbour denies foul play, lets be fair here, 2-3 weeks is not a good enough time for a microwave to go faulty. Let's assume the buyer would genuinely want the item they bought to last and not intentionally abuse it, since they paid money for it, delivery and all. Even if the buyer actually abused the item until it developed a fault, you could offer to refund a fraction of the cost to the buyer enough to take care of repair costs, or you could offer to buy another microwave for the buyer from car boot sales people if she is willing to add some money. When you find the time, you repair the faulty microwave and resell as a refurbished item.

A good seller should show concern for buyers plight. Even if you lose money sometimes, a good name is always a meal ticket to better deals.
