This has been an age long debate over which of the two automakers produces better vehicles. Well, there is no straight answer to this but depending on what you are looking for, the following might help in addition to what others have said. I have used Toyota car and now Honda, here below are my opinion about the two:

1. Engine - Honda wins. Most Honda engines are stronger and more durable. A Toyota user is more likely to change the engine of the car before a Honda user if the two vehicles are properly maintained. However, this is not to say that Toyota engines are bad just that Honda edges it here.

2. Interior Design and Aesthetics - Again Honda wins. Honda vehicles are very beautify and alluring. They have fantastic dashboards with user friendly controls. Toyota on the other hand has very poor interior and bland dashboards with very few controls, mostly the most basics that will help you drive the car, use the AC. Compare Honda Civic 2006 and Toyota Corolla 2006. Also compare Honda Accord 2010 and Toyota Camry 2010. Another example, a 1996 Honda car has cruise control as default while a 2003 Toyota car does not even have a cruise control. Look at a Honda vehicle dashboard at night and the illumination will wow you as compared to most Toyota cars.

3. Automatic Transmission - Toyota wins. Most Toyota vehicles have a very rugged auto transmission that can last for a long time. The probability of a Honda user changing transmission or having transmission issues is higher than a Toyota user.

4. Durability - Toyota wins. Most Toyota vehicles are more durable and rugged than most Honda vehicles. Toyota vehicles are built to last longer without breaking down and the issues that could breakdown without prior notice are more in Honda. The probability of the vehicle breaking down is more with Honda vehicles. It doesn't mean Toyota cars don't breakdown but with Honda, it is more considering also the nature of roads in Nigeria. If you use Honda mostly places with good roads then you will NOT see this as an issue. Toyota vehicles are used mainly for public transport because its very durable couple with the fact that majority of our roads are in a sorry state.

5. Resale Value - Again Toyota wins. Toyota vehicles in this part of the world has a higher resale value probably because of it durability. I bought my first Toyota Nigeria car, used it for 9 years and sold it almost the price i bought it 9 years ago without stress because i had many people wanting to buy it. The same cannot be said of most Honda cars. People value Toyota cars more than Honda cars if you want to resale and also its easier to sell off your Toyota car.

6. Cost of Spare Parts - Toyota marginally wins. The cost of Toyota parts is marginally cheaper than Honda parts for most model of vehicles. Both are very available in the market but you are more likely to spend more to buy Honda part than Toyota parts for similar model and year of cars.

Conclusion - Both Toyota and Honda cars are good each with it pros and cons with respect to a particular model and year. For example, Toyota RAV4 2000-2003 are prone to ECU issues while Honda CRV, a competing model does not have such issues. The question is what is your priority in a car? secondly where do you intend to mostly use the car? If you want to mostly use the car to travel especially interstate in Nigeria then stay away from Honda. If you value beautiful interior design with state of the arts controls then stay away from Toyota cars.

My humble submission.

Temilayo816:

The cars are Nigerian used. They are all in good condition to buy and drive immediately, but one would have to fix a couple of things to enjoy continued use.
Some are in better conditions than others and this usually depends on the following:
- Brand (Some brands of vehicles are stronger than others)
- Year (Older cars would definitely have seen more wear and tear than their newer counterparts)
- Previous Owners (Some car owners use their cars more carefully than others. Such cars are usually in better condition than those used roughly.)
Also, sometimes, what is "good" depends on the customer's needs.
I sold a 2003 Honda CRV for N250,000 in November, and it didn't have a single issue. It was a pure distress sale. In the same month, I also sold a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder for N560,000. The AC condenser and Steering pump needed replacement, plus the fact that Pathfinder is a problematic car. The person who bought it saw the Honda CRV but insisted he preferred the Pathfinder because he was buying it for his wife and he wanted her drive the biggest car among her friends.

To answer your question, I just buy and sell.
Repairing the car is an entirely different ball game because spare parts differ in quality, and If I fix, it will jack up the price of the car.
I always advice the customer to come for inspection with a trusted mechanic, who can help you check the car thoroughly.
Customers buy the cars and fix at their own pace and convenience.
I hope I have been Abe to answer you question satisfactorily.

Talking about Original parts for servicing your car, I know a very reliable plug you can trust

They are an authentic auto-parts dealer dedicated to sourcing only genuine parts of all car makes & models directly from their wholesalers.

They only source the highest quality products.

Their prices beat the retail prices you know and are used to.

They also have delivery services. You can see for yourself by checking their Website https://www.smartalaba.com/

I drive an Audi A6 manual gearbox and Mercedes Benz ML 350 automatic transmission. I can categorically say that German cars are the real deal, they are durable, good for everyday use but requires regular service... As far as you are ready to service your car as and when due with original parts then you are good to go.

Again avoid Shakiru mecho, Taju foga and Fatai break_master. These set of road side hustlers will destroy your car in no time, go to well known mechanics in your area who are qualified to fix such cars.

Good luck!.

AkeNathan:

You go suffer in the name of maintenance

Do you know how much it costs to maintain such car in a Nigeria where the repairers are few and body parts scarce in auto markets?

Coupled with Nigerian road cheesy

Do you even know its fuel consumption?

There's a reason why Nigerians love cars like Toyota

They don't consume fuel much, especially in this harsh economy where money scarce, a small fuel goes a long way

Toyota spare parts are everywhere in Nigeria market and they are cheap too.

Their repairers/mechanics are common too.

So know say there is reason why Audi is not common on Nigerian roads

@op Bonjour! I think you've blown me off my feet. I can't get enough of your updates here. I've seen some great reviews too and no one's coming forward to say, you've scammed them. I'm convinced that you are doing a good job here. Well, I don't even know how to drive let alone owning a car for the past 34 years of my life, but one thing is clear, I'd be paying for a ride by ending of February (I might just commit you to start searching for my specs) while I enroll for driving classes in the interim.

See what I want:

- something that consumes less fuel.
- spare parts (cheap) readily available in Nigeria.
- easy to maintain.
- first body, no dent or faint paint.
- has prestige/luxury/looks good on the road.
- durable.
- works great in dry or rainy season.
- buy & drive.

Malheureusement, what I had in mind was Toyota Corolla, but it appears its fairly used are scares so you can find a better replacement for it considering the above specs. I don't know cars. Please, get a good deal for me - something that I'll always use to remember and market your business. My budget is 1.2M.
