Orlu is the name taken by people from nearly all the 12 LGAs in Orlu senatorial district because before local government areas were created, people from the local government areas of Orlu zone regarded themselves as Orlu people; they do same till today despite the differences in the local government names. Similar culture, same dialect referred to as dialect of “ndi uzo Uzo.”
These local government areas in Orlu zone would have all fused to one big modern city if not for the inadequacies of governors of Imo state from Orlu senatorial zone who paid scanty attention to modern development in their zone.

In IMO state (the 5th biggest economy in Nigeria)

Orlu is the second biggest city in IMO state
It was created alongside owerri and okigwe,
After the olden IMO was divided to carve out Abia state,
Orlu regarded as a separate senatorial zone.
Among the 11 l.G.A Area the main urban areas are the oru east and oru west l.G.A, (with IMO state government estimating the 2 l.G.A population to be around 420,000) while the entire orlu city to have a population of 3millon

It has a long history and has played a critical role as the headquarters for the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) ran humanitarian relief agencies during the Nigeria-Biafra Civil War. The Nigerian headquarters of the British Cheshire Home is in the city.



Orlu is a home for enterprise and industry which gives it the unofficial tag of the commercial capital of Imo state. Many successful Nigerian businessmen, industrialists and champions of industries hail from its eleven local government areas that make up what is widely called Orlu Senatorial Zone. They include Orsu, Isu, Njaba, Nwangele, Nkwerre, Ideato North, Ideato South, Oru East, Oru West, Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta. The city centres of the local government area are within the host towns of Amaifeke, Ihioma/Ebenese, Umuna, Umuowa, Umutanze, Okporo, Orlu-Gedegwum and Owerre-Ebeiri. When all of the LGAs in the zone are included Orlu's population is estimated to be approaching 3,000,000 inhabitants.

The permanent site for various industries, state and federal agencies like the Imo State University Teaching Hospital, the state owned Cardboard Industry in Owerri-Ebeiri, the newly built Imo State School of Nursing and Health Technology at Okporo and a host of small and medium size chemical and pharmaceutical companies, the multi purpose Imo International Market, which houses one of the three most influential pharmaceutical markets in West Africa, are based in Orlu. This is due to the high number of Orlulites in the pharmaceutical and chemical industry. Consequently, the Orlu Zonal Area has the highest concentration of indigenous pharmaceutical manufacturers and marketers in the whole of African continent. The Ogbosisi Timber centre is located within the quick expanding Orlu Urban area and the City centre. The Nigeria Immigration Training School (NITS) in Umuowa and the Technological Skills Acquisition Centre (TESAC) are based in the city.

Abia State Government is seriously working. The last time I visited Abia, towards the end of last year, i noticed a great change.

Ibibios can only be found in Abia as small small village under some wards in Obingwa, ikwuano, (not umuahia at all)
And for arochukwu read your history well
Cos the last time I checked
It's called Aro oke Igbo (hope you know what that means) the created many towns in south east (even in Rivers State) and the sees them selves as the original Igbos more than any other, so just because the ruled and created part of ibibio then, and a little rural settlement falls under present day Arochukwu l.G.A doesn't make them Ibibios (people the ruled)
(Infact don't let an Aro man catch you saying this)
They are Arochukwu not Aroabasi (the name alone self)
As for umuahia, umuahia has no connection with ibibio

Sorry, there are no Igbos in Akwa Ibom State. The south-east is also not 100% Igbos. Igalas in Anambra and Enugu, Ibibios in Abia State and some Cross River tribes in Ebonyi.The only state 100% Igbos is Imo State.

Also Tell me which cross river tribe is found in Ebonyi?
Cos the Last time I checked, Ezza is an igbo village with greater part of it in Ebonyi an the remaining part in benue and cross river (odinary Google search can cure your ignorance)

Taking of Abia, the ibibio people in Abia are minority not even up to 2% and most of them always claim Igbos (visit obingwa, they are few Akwa ibom tribes there) but all of them now speaks Aba Igbo (not even ngwa Igbo)
