Seen in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State Driving into the heart of Raffia City (Ikot Ekpene) from Abak, you will be greeted by some youths selling snails by the road to travelers. Snail is called 'ekwong' in Ikot Ekpene and other parts of the Annang and Ibibio speaking areas of Akwa Ibom. It is a special native delicacy mostly hunted in the night and is said to be much during the rainy season. Snail hunters often move in groups ranging from two to five (per group) or more. Snails are found in their numbers in cold places or spots near waste disposals. Preferably, hunters could chose to target plantain trees and bushes at night for plenty catch.
