It fluctuates between $1500-$2000 per share with a minimum of 100 shares. Its not available for trade all yr round though. Those guyz are trying to minimize the # of pips who buy into them. There are more companies and assocaitions than individuals on their shareholders database.
I had to partner with some silicon valley guyz to get it.

If still interested..i could hook u up wit sum info.

Should you be talking of Bill gates (like u r paying him) or Microsoft as a corporation. Anyway if u doubt it, let see what info u have about Microsoft shares.

Re: I Want to Buy Microsoft Shares by kazey(m): 3:03pm On Oct 05, 2005
heheheh well I think Mr layi knows that now. Before you say anything in the future, I encourage you review the kind of people in the forum first, then post.
Re: I Want to Buy Microsoft Shares by layi(m): 10:12am On Oct 06, 2005
Mr Seun is right about the official price but believe me u can't get it except you are ready to go through the 'torture'. U've got to rebuy from stock brokers who have their pricing structure. www.sharebuilder.com would even get you MS share for 4$. Stock brokers use the synergy efect to make money from would be investors.
I gave u that info because i thot u wanted to know whatz up (easiest and best way to get in) and not just paper info.

I don't need to argue...since u think i'm a joker...go get it. If u succeed i'll eat my words.

NB: Tellin me to review members b4 postin is absurd. Nobody is infallible. U could be wrong when u think u r absolutely right. Be open.
Re: I Want to Buy Microsoft Shares by kazey(m): 11:57am On Oct 06, 2005
Well you better start eating your words, because I got news for you. Hope they dont choke you smiley. there is a difference between $1500-$2000 to $4-$25 a share. And if you still insist that you bought your stocks for that price, assuming your claims is true. You are the smartest stock investor on this planet. You deserve to be crowned. Honestly grin

i love your style oooooooooooooo
you mean you want to buy microsoft shares? it is a nice idea.
Re: I Want to Buy Microsoft Shares by Seun(m): 1:44pm On Oct 06, 2005
Actually, I think you're better of buying shares in a public company in the same country. The various fees you'll have to pay in order to buy and sell shares in a company in another country might eat up any profits you were hoping to make.
Re: I Want to Buy Microsoft Shares by layi(m): 1:50pm On Oct 06, 2005
@kazey
Keep being sarcastic (as usual)..just 1 advice..be open to learn.

See where d problems is.
U could believe 4$ because its closer to $25 than $1500?  cheesy

I'll break it down.

How much u bought the shares is dependent on the plan offered by the issuer (broker or company's agent). Microsoft could give it @ 25$ but like i said earlier stock brokers use d synergy effect principle (go check d meanin..because it obvious u didnt get it).
Stock brokers buy large quantities and resell in their own price...reason why sharebuilder.com could sell for $4. Some brokers add insured guarantees (like what IBTC does in Nigeria) but those ones goes for as high as $1500 per share. Its all microsoft shares but different schemes.
A lot happen in the stock market (especially NYSE) which u obviously aint aware of. Stock brokers buy the shares (which is a risk in itself) and even take more risk by guaranteein the returns..and sellin it higher.
I'm a very smart investor because where u missed it is that the $1000 per share aint same in value at the $25 share. Its a diff plan. Buying it for 2000$ per share is like buying 100 shares at 20$. Its put at that amount per share because thats the least u can buy from the brokers since they are guaranteeing specific yr end returns. They dictate in what multiples u can buy.
Just do your research well. There's more to stock tradin than buyin of shares and waiting till yr end for returns. Pips have devised several ways of makin money in between.
I can't put my share cert. up here for security reasons.
Buy urs and lets see. i'm waitin to eat my words o!.

@Seun.
Thats true but it all depends on which country and company. If u have someone in the foreign country who is reliable and can advice you accordingly...go ahead.
But its true the Nigerian Stock exchange is very lucrative. Nigerian Breweries, Oando and Nestle are really good or best of all IBTC. I love guaranteed returns on shares. Its far better than Bank Fixed deposit (aka CDs in USA) and less risky than outright purchase of shares
Re: I Want to Buy Microsoft Shares by kazey(m): 2:54pm On Oct 06, 2005
hmmm na wa o, you taught I wasnt reading and willing to learn? I was just commenting on your facts Mr Layi. You trade in stocks alright, but dont assume you are the only one that does it tongue. Some people are just too amazed and shocked with your claims Mr layi. I cant just cant ignore someone blabbering outside the boundaries of facts. I just cant let it go. sorry.

Bringing in theories that are already known to support your claims is a little bit funny, dont you think. Just admit, you exagerrated the pricings. We all make mistakes in our calculations sometimes wink dont we guys smiley
Re: I Want to Buy Microsoft Shares by layi(m): 3:15pm On Oct 06, 2005
cheesy

I'm suprised and still looking for the line where i claimed to be the only or most authoritative stock broker here.
I can see explainin my claims is really bitin' but i wont keep mum to see u misinterprete my statements. If it was private..cool..i'll ignore But in a public forum like this...nah.
Not when it obvious (from your post above) that u think you're talking for evrybody.

Point still remains i bought it for that amount and am not regrettin it. I wonder what facts u got thats strong enough to say i exagerrated. And even if i don't have the shares or am lying (as u imply), its obvious u don't have d shares either which puts u in no position (and disqualifies u from judgin') who's right or wrong.
Its a market baby. You've got to be in to know whatz up.
Re: I Want to Buy Microsoft Shares by kazey(m): 4:10pm On Oct 06, 2005
Biting me? Speaking for everybody? lolz ok o. Anywayz nice theories you got up there. Besides I really dont re-collect saying, I had shares. It was a statement. Just Be cool. I rest my case on M$ shares. It seems too hard to get my hands on it afterall tongue
Re: I Want to Buy Microsoft Shares by layi(m): 4:24pm On Oct 06, 2005
I rest my case either.

No hard feelings o..abeg. Just untwistin twists. wink

I see this as the dumbest idea of all season. Banking ones financial future on MSFT is a sure and impending financial doom, MS has been losing condisderable market share due to the stiff competiton she hs been getting from the Open Source community.

MSFT has come to her pleatue of financial growth, what they are now doing is consolidating and maintaining the past tempo and vibrations whihc they have generated in the industry, but unfortunately it seems "sand no fit hold water well" in Redmond.

The recent turn around been spearheaded by Steve "the embalmer" of the "I will fu??ing kill and bury Google/Eric" fame has not even change peoples perception of peoples opionion.

The recent planned retirement of Windows Vista's general oveerser Allachin has send some wrong signal at the wrong time to the computing community.

MS Office which is one of MSFT most priced cash cow has constantly been under attack from the like of openoffice.org, and Goole's planned web based office suites.

I recently heard that MS is even planning the armagedon of GMAIL. The new service was said to have been designed from the ground up to be the Outlook for the web, a pure web service that's based on XML and the cool XMLHTTP technology.

We have seen Novel, Caldera(SCO) and the rest; is MSFT the next?

This message is for Mr Layi.... (or any other individual able to give a solid advice)

Hi there you seem to know a lot of your stuffs, well considering i know nothing about it your posting have been a bit interesting....

I am interested in the idea of buying shares especially in naija. I know it is probably a wide topic, however, few pointers as to target companies, trends of the stock market & opportunites would definately be a start for me (if you dont mind sharing). I see you mentioned IBTC once or twice in your posting of which i am quite aware of and i've been thinking about taking up the fund option. What possibly can i loose really?

It would be good hear from you with a few pointers..

Thanks in advance!!

@dimples81: Being an investor for well over two years now and learning about investing for about three years, I consider myself to have accumulated a pretty good amount of information about investing in general and in stocks in Nigeria and I feel I could share of my knowledge. There's a lot of information out there about investing, if you'll search well. I would go on to list some strategies that I would use but you must never take someone's strategies and just apply them like that because each individual has different risk-bearing abilities and if I'm a very "risky" investor and you are more of the conservative type, then my strategies may turn out to be just too risky for you and you could lose money badly. Have this at the back of your mind that the riskier an investment is, usually the more your ability to make profit and the more the amount of training required to succeed.

A lot of discussion has already taken place here and I just barely scanned through so apologies if I'm repeating anything that has been said.

You should understand that there are basically two markets you can buy investing instruments - the money market and the capital market. In the money market, you have investment instruments like fixed deposits, commercial papers, bankers acceptances, treasury bills and bonds. In the capital market, you'll deal with instruments like mutual funds, unit trusts, stocks, derivatives, etc.

With the money market, you are dealing with basically debt - you lend money to the government, bank or company with an agreement to get your money back with an interest at a specified time. If you are looking for safe investments, this may be your route as there's little or no risk usually involved but then the returns are not as high and rewarding as you would if you decided to take some risk in the capital market.

Mutual funds can be an easy way to invest in the capital market whilst also minimizing the risk because you have expert fund managers who periodically invest the money in the pool (contributed by mutual fund investors). They make loses and gains in different investments but at the end of the day, it averages out to a profit (on most occasions).

If you're a risk taker and would not mind monitoring the market and investing a lot in learning how the stock market works, then you are positioned to make money from the stock market. You might want to take advantage of IPOs. Most stocks would appreciate almost immediately after the IPO and that could be a time to sell. If your strategy is to buy in on IPOs (Initial Public Offerings) and sell once you've determined they are high enough, then you could make money that way.

I would like to stop here for now.

Re: I Want to Buy Microsoft Shares by Eby(f): 3:30pm On Dec 02, 2005
@ timba, yu've a nice stuff there, plz could yu explain 2 me what this IBTC mutual fund is all about and this Guarantee stuff.

Yu mean one can sell his/her shares after the 'IPO'. Now Union Bank IPO is on, if I buy the minimum which N20,000 (1000 units, 20kobo/share), how much do yu think I can sell it after the IPO is over.

I can c yu are really into the thing, I really want to know all the nity grity of the capital market.

Thanx my bros.
Re: I Want to Buy Microsoft Shares by demmy(m): 4:07pm On Dec 02, 2005
@Eby the Union Bank IPO will be on till when? thanks
Re: I Want to Buy Microsoft Shares by timba(m): 6:17pm On Dec 02, 2005
@Eby: Let me start by explaining mutual funds. A mutual fund is an investment instrument whereby investors invest money into a pool and the funds collected that way are then invested by a funds manager for the purpose of making returns on the investments made by the investors.

Mutual funds have different goals and are for different types of investors. You could recall my previous post, I did mention something about risks. A mutual fund could be focused on investing in low-risk investments or high-risk investments or even a combination. Usually the fund managers may decide to have a percentage of funds going into different investment instruments.

So why mutual funds you may ask, mutual funds enable investors to benefit from investments that they might not be able to invest in as an individual. Many investments require large amounts of cash and except for high-networth or institutional investors, you may not even know about them but because of the large amounts of cash available for investing by the funds manager, even a starting investor can benefit from such investment opportunities.

For more information about mutual funds, I would suggest you visit this site.

IBTC and the Discovery Fund are examples of companies selling mutual funds. You can visit those sites for more information on the mutual funds they have on offer.

As regards IPOs, I suspect you actually meant N20 per share. There are a number of factors that influence the direction of movement of the price of a stock. I cannot say categorically how fast (if it would as a matter of fact) the price of UBN would rise. But if you would read some research reports on the stock, you may be able to get information and then decide if it would be a good buy. Union Bank has paid good dividends to their investors over the last three years and I'm not sure if that would continue since there's a likelyhood that - although they are getting more funds, they might not be able to keep up with the competition.

If you're doing some short term speculation, yes may be it would be a good buy. Probably you'll want to sell when it rises to about N25 (like I said, there are no guarantees). A good investment advice is that you do not invest what you cannot afford to lose.
Re: I Want to Buy Microsoft Shares by timba(m): 6:23pm On Dec 02, 2005
UBN is simultaneously offering a public offering and rights issue. The public offering closes on Wednesday December 21, 2005, while the rights issue offer will close on Friday December 30, 2005. More information (and their financials) is available on their web site.
