@All Please before I start writing down TPs from www.lyngsat.com for possible stations on astra2b , sirus4, eutelsat 4, do we actually have good stations receivable in South West Nigeria amongst them? |
Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by Nobody: 1:42pm On Nov 04, 2009 |
@ olofofo, our magnetic declination for this part of the globe is negative 3 (-3), i.e your compass south is 180, just add -3 to it, you'll arrive at 177. So therefore, the true south is at the 177 degree mark on your compass. |
Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by spaceman(m): 2:00pm On Nov 04, 2009 |
@Olayinkaoj Bros me it is high time u grew from asking too many ?s at once. It doesnt matter wether you have Sirius 4 on your Dx or not. select the sirius u find on ur Dx, input the tp u were given and do the tracking! As for , "good stations receivable in S/W Nigeria, " Its up to you. go do the tracking firts and see 4 ur self. Olayinkaoj:yes. and no wahala! but just leave it on Sirius 300000000 on ur Dx and carry go @Olofofo. wa dagba, wa di arugbo lo le i igba odun odun kan Enitan has given you a good answer, work withing that limit, u are sure to get result. By the way what make of compass are u using? |
Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by GeorgeD1(m): 2:00pm On Nov 04, 2009 |
olofofo: @olofofo, Here is what you need for Lagos: Latitude= 6° 27' 11" N Longitude= 3° 23' 45" E Magnetic declination= 3° 14' WEST Declination is NEGATIVE Meaning that the difference between magnetic south and true south=3° 14' or 3.1° Therefore, true south on your compass will be (180° - 3.1° ) = 176.9° |

olofofo:@ Olofofo I got this from dishpointer.com when i searched for my location with a stab HH 100 motor for true south and true north, though i planned to apply it over d weekend. Your Location Satellite Data Dish Setup Data Latitude: 40.8100° Longitude: -73.9620° Name: Stab HH100 Distance: 37572km Motor Latitude: 40.8° Declination Angle: 6.4° Dish Elevation: 24° Azimuth (true): 180.0° Azimuth (magn.): 193.2° |
Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by spaceman(m): 2:18pm On Nov 04, 2009 |
@ Olofofo. Here is another practical approach. If u know the azimuth value of W3A- that's an example of a satellite that is almost true south--at my end its 182.4 deg true azimuth, and the magnetic azimuth is 184 deg. Now if u face directly to the W3A, using ur already W3A-receiving dish as a guide, hold your compass in that direction, and read what it gives u. With this I think your compass should give a value u can now compare what George-D and Enitan gave. good luck and feed back. |

Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by GeorgeD1(m): 4:48pm On Nov 04, 2009 |
@pheleix, I think you just answered the question yourself. If all your channels are showing on that old reciever but refuse to show on the 4663x that means your reciever has a signal problem as a result of the lightining strike. The good news is that it is very easy to fix. Just take it to any good electronics repairer and they will fix it for you or better still take it to Alaba if you stay in lagos. |

@pitondez if you can get somebody that can help you to search Alaba mkt, you could probably get one but if you can't get it you can use the Alcad for the purpose. you have got it right by creating the design for ten houses per box. if you are connecting each of the houses to the box directly, you must use big amp in the box and this will also give the signal the opportunity to travel to the next box, if not, then you might split the signal in the box to two and use one to power the signal to the next box and use the other to link the houses close to the box. the major thing there is that the RG11 cable will help to carry the signal farther than the RG6. you can contact me on 08035726658 or 07026208919. |

Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by FMarshal2(m): 5:02pm On Nov 05, 2009 |
Adeexy:@ the red highlighted: Azimuth (magn.): should be 183.2° not 193.2°. Please, make a note of it. This 10° discrepancy will be a problem when aligning your dish. |
Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by FMarshal2(m): 5:36pm On Nov 05, 2009 |
This is my Mini-Bud C-band Summer Project. The Dish is 1.20M Dish, pointing at Galaxy 16 @ 99.0°W. I got all the strong transponders, but wasn't able to receive all the C-band frequencies on that bird, because of the dish size limitation. It was nice to get C-band signals with a 1.2M dish. Mind you, it was just for fun. If you have a 1.20M dish and a C-band LNB, maybe you could try it. You also need the Conical Scala to make (boost) the signal stable. Enjoy the photos:

Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by GeorgeD1(m): 5:46pm On Nov 05, 2009 |
@F_Marshal, Nice pics. Maybe a little size increase from 1.2 to 1.8m for the dish could have made all the difference, don't you think? |
Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by FMarshal2(m): 5:58pm On Nov 05, 2009 |
George_D:Thanks, but as I stated earlier, I just did it for fun. Wasn't actually interested in getting anything bigger than 1.2m, as it would have a negative impact on my property value, and least to say my neigbours too. Secondly, there are almost Identical C-band signals scattered around the KU band over here in North America. So, for what it is worth, it was an experiment which I very much enjoyed. Oh, BTW, I enjoyed reading your take on the Power inveter stuff. NEPA, abi na PHCN have no holds on anyone who goes the route you suggested. |
