Guys, I've been to 31 states in Nigeria in the last few years. Undoubtably, BY ALL STANDARDS(death counts,state of the road,you name it),the WORST road to travel in Nigeria as at date is the road from Gombe to that Mubi/ Yola axis. It is a daytime nightmare. At night, it is an impossicant,unless you get jazz. I cant find words to describe it. What's the best horror film you know? How I wish someone from that axis would post pictures. Infact, let's all post pictures of the roads we think are bad and visually compare. There is a saying that when someone has not gone out,he will think his father's farm is the biggest. As for me,I have vowed NEVER  to ply that road in that state again,even if its with the latest landcruiser with raised shocks going at 20 km/hr. The Devil Lives on that road.

Without a doubt, the most notorious road is the Lagos Badagry express way. You could spend 5 hours for a journey of 30 minutes. I have experienced that severally.

The road is also notorious for its' high rate of crime, especially around Ojo military cantonment/Volks bus stop. So many lives have been lost on that spot. I have had to abandon my car and fled to safety on numerous occassions.

We can't wait for the construction of the new road.

This one should actually join the five star ranks of bad roads.

About 20 yrs ago when I was in secondary school I actually used that road to Ogoja from Lagos and almost everytime I arrived school or back home in Lagos I took ill for two days.

That road is one of the last standing trunk A roads long fogotten by FG of Nigeria. I have never passed through the road since my secondary school days but I stil get reports that the road is muddy, un-tarred and vehicles spend like two days or move before moving on. Some cars don't even make it on their own without being towed

East-West road is the worst of all federal roads. I also passed through Kogi State and wasn't happy at all. Pls, why is there no airoprt in the yet partitioned state since it seems that roads there are death traps?

As for Lagos- Badagry express way, thats another story on it's own. I have never gone through that road and not encounter go slow. It's either buses stop in the middle of the road to pick up passengers or those mallam that sell ram will block the road with their malu,

I cant think of any good road in 9ja. I came to 9ja last year and had to repair my car 2wice in month due to bad road.

Two roads:
1. Benin-Ore-Lagos Road.
2. The neglected Port Harcourt- Warri Road, also known as the East-West Road.

Benin-ore road is very bad. Though there are quite som bad roads in the East. Commutters 'drive today to drive tomorow', excess speed kills.

My people, have you oticed how no core nothern road has come up on this list, I live in the north and travel all over the country, truth is, the Northern Govenors are paying really good attention to their roads, I;m not saying they dont have some really bad roads too, but they are really trying in terms of road maintainance, they have a way of drawing the attention of Govt to their roads for repairs, the really bad roads in the North are the ones from Gombe to yola, Zaria to jos etc, but their state is nothing compared to the southern roads.

If you travel from Kontagora in Niger state to Illorin, you'll have to check into the hospital on arrival, it is serious.

WHAT CAN WE DO AS NAIRALANDERS TO DRAW ATTENTION OF GOVT TO THESE ROADS MORE THAN HAVE BEEN DONE IN THE PAST?

Let us begin to take snap shots of these roads or even video clips and post them online, we are really suffering in this country, the big men hop onto airplanes and travel in an hour or less, while we sometimes have to sleep on the roads after travelling hours in torture, they would not give us steady power and would not do our roads, they killed our railway system and have made flying out of our reach.

But I will give a brief list of some of the roads that are manageable
Lagos-Ibadan
Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria
Sokoto-Gusau (just repaired recently)
Abuja-Lokoja (fair only that the volume of traffic is exceedingly overwheming)
Abuja-Jos (via barde not Akwanga)
Osogbo-Offa (fair but the Offa-Ilorin axis is terrible)

Other roads are death traps and thieves' hide out
Sagamu-Benin
Ibadan-Ilorin-Jebba-Mokwa-Kaduna
Mokwa-Makera-Kontagora-Sokoto (very terrible dont even try it)
Port Harourt-Aba-Enugu
Ilorin-Kabba (Via Egbe and Isanlu)
Gombe-Yola (death trap yet Atiku was president for two terms.


I would have love to mention more but I cant keep just typing

Just believe this, I am a civil engr, I have travelled to most places around and I know what I am talking about.

Roads in Edo states are d worst. E.g Abraka -Benin road.

All roads in nigeria are bad,the worst are from okene,lokoja and abuja road.they are like dungeon.

I totally agree with Tunene, this is cos no one can just give an answer without being conversant with the roads all around d country.

Abuja-Lokoja road.

Sometime in January this year, i had to make an emergency trip to Yola from Lag. Got to the Lagos airport at 7am for a flight at 4pm. Was told no ticket. Fully booked all the airlines.

Was even begging them to ask the Abuja side (flight goes through Abuja) if they had a spare seat to spare. Cut a long story short, i got a seat. From Abuja to Yola, you would think we were in a Molue. The plane was so full i was beginning to think there were some ppl standing.

From Yola back to Lag, i decided to get to Bauchi first via Gombe.

Omo it was only then i understood why the plane was full. That road is not worthy to be called a cattle track. There are sections completely missing!!!

I was whining for the entire 4hrs it took. That road is a disaster. Atiku should be flogged. A whole VP allowed his people to suffer such torment.

Try Pankshin- Langtang in Plateau, a narrow path in the middle of 2 deep ditches. you
will not repeat it for a million naira. , So scary

All major travelling roads in Nigeria are bad.Even if the road covering is good so far the major travelling road is a one lane road, it is a death trap.Benin-Ore road is most prominent because people from the East use that road mostly and there is no diversion.Imagine this holiday season how many Igbo men will use that road.
