Is full body scanners enough?. Even if every airport in Nigeria scanned every bag loaded onto every airplane for explosives, and every passenger went under the full body scanner, a bomb could still get onto a passenger jet. Criminal groups have for years smuggled contraband by stuffing it into condoms and having a "mule" swallow the load, or by having it implanted surgically or rectally. The same technique can be used to smuggle plastic explosives like Semtex past security at any Nigerian airport. I still don't feel safe.

However genuine their intentions maybe, its just another avenue to embezzle some serious dough!!!

An atheist fears death? grin

x-ray technology can also show if something is swallowed.

The step to get full body scanners is to assure the US that we will do whatever is necessary to maintain the recently obtained certification of Nigerian airports. We need to be seen to be doing our best to prevent terrorism, else we become unduly targeted.

Are people comfortable with the idea of a digital strip search.

I posted a topic earlier explaining the refusal to implement these full body scanners in Europe due to concerns about violating human privacy laws.

invasion of privacy vs. the possibility of saving your life?

Excellent move. I hope the manufacturers will also send technicians and more to man the machines for us! lol

With due respect, the privacy fears are hogwash. I fully support the searches - periodic inconvenience cannot be compared to the potential to kill hundreds of people.

Invasion of privacy indeed - people with too much get worried about insignificant things. . . there is a true need for recalibration of expectations by people - value your life over 'privacy'.

Are the manufacturers of the baggage screening equipment at airports in Nigeria also manned by the manufacturers' technicians?

Some things never change.

I definitely agree with all of this.

its still not enough but people just have to do the best they can.

However, as long as there are people who espouse violence as a means to an end, there's little anyone can do to change intent.

The full body scanners will catch some, act as a deterrent for some, but this terrorism issue has to be tackled at the roots if the targetted countries want to be safe.

That includes rooting out terrorist and militant cells and sympathisers in lagos and elsewhere.

Britain also has a part to play here.

on the plus side, this may speed up the construction of other airports outside the main three, since the drog mules still have to transport their loads nah.

Good, this machine will not only help to thwart terrorism, it will also hinder drug traffickers. I have no problem with giving up 'privacy' in order to be safe.
