Could it be true that Christ Embassy charged N1000 gate fee for their end of the year Watch night service because there were too many people who came for the service? How much did Jesus charge from the thousands who thronged him? I choose not to believe this story, perhaps PM News got the information wrong.

It's not about charging people because many people came, that will be like taking advantage of people. The idea is to discourage people and reduce the attendees . The venue served as a studio where the programme is broadcast live. And it can't take all the people. The church has several centres all over Lagos where people were encourage to go and participate through satellite , they don't have to pay to enter those centres , even some of them are close to the main venue for people that lives arround there , so that they don't have to go too far to attend a centre ,and they are all free. The church also pay for all tv stations to broadcast it live so that people can stay at home to watch. So it's only the studio centre that was ticketed to reduce attendance there and to ensure each person has a sit without overcrowd. People were encouraged to attend the free centres or stay at home and participate by satellite. The studio broadcast is beamed world wide and it will be embarrassing to have crowd problem witnessed world wide live. A studio has to be controlled.so the idea is that everybody must not come over here. It can only take about 20- 25,000 or so. But members are well over 100,000. If you make the tisket free, every body will get. So the idea is to discourage attendance there may be stampede. We had trouble in Uk with crowd in the last crusade there.

Besides we have seen people organised Christian conferences that people pay to register,or Christian music shows that people pay to attend. So it is not like taking advantage of people. If it's about money, then every church would have been mandated to issue ticket all over the world. Some churches used stadium as centres . More money would have come in.

So, charging 1000 is supposed to be for crowd control, right? Does it mean other strategies can't be applied to control crowd? What happened to crowd management without pay? Really, what would JESUS do? I think we should be more strategical in our approaches to life. As a church, we can't allowed people to ridicule Christ and christendon as a result of what we do. As church leaders that we are, we shud always try to control and check our pastors when they are going astray. May the LORD set our eyes on the path of light and righteousness. Cheers

I think the idea was to raise enough cash to defray the cost of broadcasting, and probably make a little profit in the process.

The problem with our pastors these days is that they think in 'money language'. Everything is monetized including problem solving.

you should have been at the venue to observe security agents, crowd control marshalls ,ushers and so many others function, and who says other crowd control management options were not carried out.

the truth is the facility has a particular amount of persons it can take so there are no issues of stampede that have been recorded in some other programs elsewhere,

there were other viewing centres where  tickets were not sold, this was only done to ensure that only the right amount of people get into the venue considering that the man of god will be ministering live at this venue and a whole lot of people will want to get in.

more-so these tickets were sold in church alone and not in public places,if the target was to make money am sure we would have had all the eateries media houses, and so many other vendors selling, am sure tickets would also have been sold online.

The i dea was not chaging But it was not madatory to pay, alternative arrangement was made for those who couldn't get into the main auditorium. Last year, many officials and  pastors were locked out. Pastor chris ,is very strict to such things , when they say should be locked , it doesn't matter who is outside. Some officials who had seats had their seats taken over by strangers. Some people are very unruly, especially in an open programme like this where none members come also. Even when you tell them that a seat is reserved , can you imagine people dragging seat in a live programme. Nigerians need to develop his mid set.  Those who bought ticket didn't complain, At least they are sure of their seat and they are glad. But plans were made for other people without ticket. Everybody must not be in the main auditorium. We should not over blow the matter unnecessarily.

I have been involved in  crowd control before. We set up overflow with sound and projectors . When the stadium became full ,but some people will still push at the gate , crushing some others climbing everywhere . It is a Nigerian challenge. Every body must not be in the main auditorium. There would be no need for ticket if all would abide by rules.

Was the ticket sold prior to or on the day of the event? I am sure a lot of people willing to pay the N1,000 were not given ticket because the venue was already filled to capacity. And I want to believe they constitute a good proportion of the people that were sent back to viewing centers. The real control could not have been the money but the efforts of the security agents, crowd control marshals, ushers e.t.c.

now you understand, for you to think that a good proportion of people were sent to the viewing centres it means you believe the crowd was more than double of what the facilty could take.

Re: Pastor Chris Charges Gate Fees For Watch Night Service? by Iysayah(m): 12:19pm On Jan 06, 2011
i do not fully comprehend what crowd control measures the church would adopt than charge 1000. are there
no other means of going about this without charging any money at all?. we keep passing the wrong message all the time! what is wrong in moving the venue to somewhere bigger if you anticipate such large crowd? i wont want to believe there was not a logistics unit in the church to anticipate this problem. now the whole accusations fall to your pastor joagbaje and azibalua. the average Nigeian christian can afford 1000 by crook or nook! christ!

When u drop ur offering in church, do u go back and request for accountability or request dat church accounts be audited,

It wasn't compulsory to be there! Those not happy with the fee could have watched from home or from a designated centre. It is NOT COMPULSORY TO GIVE TO GOD OR GOD'S WORK! Some people put in their time FOR NO PAYMENT to make that event possible! Some people too can put in SOME MONEY to enjoy the work of those who put in their time! Giving IS NOT BY FORCE and God is not constrained to THAT PARTICULAR VENUE!

A colleague of mine who is a member of Christ Embassy, said the money was for seat reservation
and its not compulsory, those who where not able to get the ticket also attended the service.
