Dear political contributors,

I consider it necessary to brief us on the happenings in this section in the last few weeks, due primarily to the increasing demand by observant and worried forum members in the various threads opened, especially the 'Where is Aisha2 thread?', to know what exactly is happening in this section.

First, I must apologize for my inactivity in the last couple of weeks, which made the tribal warlords and spammers run berserk. I did come around actually, but most times I accessed NL from my phone, where I cannot exercise the mod rights. I apologize, once again. It was due to a private commitment.

POST - ELECTION RECONCILIATION:
In the run-up to the April elections, all of us, from the members to the Mods, to even the forum owner, exercised our political choices and never hid our preferences. A lot of debates, lots of accusations and counter-accusations, lots of allegations, lot of name-calling etc. It was a trying period for we Mods too but we tried to maintain our cool.
But elections are over and I am especially happy that everbody has moved on. Normal debates have returned, and the boundary of polarization is fast tearing down. I am really impressed at this. Pls let's keep it that way. Let's forget our electoral differences and come back to make our country a better one.

TRIBAL TOPICS
It is a pity that at this age, some people still pre-occupy themselves with 'my tribe is better than yours' ranting. Even more surprising is when you see otherwise brilliant analysts descending into such abyss. I saw the level it degenerated to when and Aisha2 were away, but thanks to other authorities who took care of it, as I can see today that most of the topics have been consigned to their right places.

Pls do not hesitate to call our attention to such topics and threads, using the 'Complaints' thread especially.

AISHA2
The continued absence of Aisha2 has raised a lot of questions and thread. I have explained earlier. Aisha2 is fine. We still chatted few days ago. There is just a misunderstanding between her and the forum owner. For now she has tendered her resignation, but I hope there will be a reconciliation and she will be back.

Finally, I appreciate those that went extra mile to give a call while I was not so active for some days. Those that asked on-the-thread are also acknowledged.

Let's all join hands to make Nigeria the country of our dream and consolidate Nairaland's position as Nigeria's leading forum.

Thank you.
Jarus.

Welcome back.
Awaiting an apology for those whose calls you refused to pick during your days of AWOL tongue
On a more serious note, if Aisha2 has resigned (i don't blame her), why is a replacement not being appointed as this section can't survive with just one mod.
secondly besides cleaning up threads, what exactly is being done to permanently punish these persistent tribal lords?
The level of trolling is not only irritating, it has become tiring.
If permanent action is not taken against these ethnic jingoists, this problem will persist.
Welcome back, however much work awaits you and the new mod(s) of this section.

Jarus,
Thanks for your update on "Matters Arising", I will appreciate if the tread on "Nigerian Bill Gates of Africa" could be featured on the front page. This is a unique opportunity to show case Nigerians as the talented high achievers we truly are; across the board. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

i fail to understand what you mean by the bold part.
the place is still filled with all sort of silly ethnic threads. What exactly have these authorities done, that you are applauding?
The 'report to moderator' button is it not valid?
i have used it sensibly repeatedly but nothing seems to happen.
With due respect to all hard working mods,i often wonder if this site runs on auto-pilot.

They did things. For example when I accessed NL thru my phone(from where I cannot perform Mod duties of deleting, moving, locking etc) I saw a lot of tribal threads, which I was not able to remove. When I opened this place thru my system to remove them, they had been cleared by someone else, obviously Admin or Supermod. Hence, the 'bolded part'.

It's not run on auto-pilot.
Anything that is public has the challenge of control. The publicness brings the issue of limited control. Except one will sit here 24/7, being in every thread at the same time, it is impossible to have a perfect public forum. There is no way one can know the intention of a registrant at teh point of registration, and even when banned, they simply register a new ID, you keep banning and banning.
A perfect forum doesn't exist anywhere. Looking for perfection on Nairaland, to me, is removing humanness from forum handlers.
Re: Matters Arising by houvest: 3:00pm On May 31, 2011
We are not asking for perfection but improvement and when i say improvement, i mean real noticeable improvement. Their seems to be a tacit encouragement to rabid tribalists and inter ethnic rivalries.
Re: Matters Arising by jmaine: 3:15pm On May 31, 2011
Heart warming opening remark by Jarus . . hope the Brutal  cheesy crackdown on all tribal mafia gangs on this land would act as a deterrent  . . this days it takes courage to even read interesting threads beyond the third page due to the aggressive  knack of the tribal lords to hijack proceedings, thereby rendering the whole intentions of having a decent discussion and mild abuses tongue void . . .and by the way . . .if Aisha2 is still unrelenting in her decision not to return to her role as a mod . .don't we have other able hands trusted hands who are willing to fill in  . . cos the work load is enormous for just an individual

Jarus, this seems to be the view of rational posters here.
It seems the owners and Mods of this site and this section in particular are enjoying this ethnic jingoism.
The section is filled with threads that have long generated to ethnic jingoistic exercises for days.Yet days after the essence of the thread was derailed, the offensive posts are neither deleted or the entire thread binned.
This job is too much for an individual.Considering that you have more important things in live to spend your time on, this section in particular needs a couple of more Mods.

^^ I wonder if you guys have a delete button for member comments, if you do, Just use that one for the "tribal posts"

I'm not speaking of whole topics, I mean indivdual comments with tribal hate and childish tribal baiting. If people see that their thoughts are being constantly deleted, they will exercise caution before clicking post. It will be sad to just delete a good topic because some few trolls made a few comments, just be more aggressive with the individual posts.

You might need a few more moderators to do it effectively though, I noticed that most of your Politics MODs are based in Nigeria, I think getting one or two more from different time-zones will be a good idea.
Re: Matters Arising by 1025: 6:02pm On May 31, 2011
Dear Jarus,
i would want to use this great opportunity to make suggestion that thread topics as power sector(electricity) and corruption (both as they concern nigeria) should be given separate sections as we have for nollywood, celebrities, sports etc.
this idea is born out of the growing importance of these two topics as they are related to nigeria and nigerians.
please do look at this suggestion as a matter of urgency/relevance.
thanks,

Nice one jarus. Its about time. I was starting to wonder if no one was in charge anymore. The tribal slurs, name calling and subtle references to sectarian violence is disturbing to say the least. In some recent post showed to me by a friend in the security services, two guys were talking about how to get in touch to purchase an ak47!! I think a lot of responsibility comes with administering a site like this. After all its naija's biggest online community

Its in lieu of all the tribal warfare and negative comments that I decided to create this thread to celebrate Nigeria's rich diversity;

https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-675630.0.html#msg8392907

It'll be quite great as well as "calming potential ranters" when they see such thread pinned to the top of the section's thread list in other to encourage decency and maturity by potential posters.

Thanks.

Also, there should be votes on potential moderators thereby giving us political section posters, the ability to "elect" our own moderators instead of imposing moderators on us - who might be already unpopular with many posters afterall, we're all political boffins and we're in a democracy here!

We should practice democracy in this section.   wink

Even u and aisha2 should be elected and not imposed on us like a monarchy. We should impeach you or aisha2 if u guys fall short of your duties so as to enable a free and fair election to elect other moderators.  wink

You are right. Since this is the "POLITICAL SECTION", we should practice democracy. cheesy

I choose

1) Kilode?!
2) Houvest
3) Katsumoto
4) Salami
5) Alexleo

Anyone of those 5 will do well in this section.

Since you support my view here, maybe its time to move a motion of impeachment of the non-active moderators such as aisha2. In a democracy, a government official cannot just do as they like. Its monarchical in nature to leave without notice.

Government of Nairaland

Motion of impeachment of the moderator (aisha2) by the MPs of Nairaland.

I, dem_people, representing Anambra South Senatorial Zone,
hereby moves the motion of impeachment by the powers bestowed on me by the
constitution of Nairaland contained in the rules of governance on page 1, line 4
of Nairaland forum.

MPs for this motion, say YEA
MPs
against this motion, say NAY

@henry,

Why the 2nd and not the first? What position does that leave you?

No ethnic group has monopoly of this site so remember that when you point a finger at another, the remaining four is pointing at you!
Re: Matters Arising by Nobody: 8:36am On Jun 01, 2011
All comments read and noted.

The forum owner reserves the right to choose a moderator using the system he wants. If he wants election, so be it, but I don't think the CEO of Zenith bank will appoint a Manager by open voting. He knows those he can work with. Just consider that.

And for those moving for Aisha's impeachment, she has resigned voluntarily long ago, so carry your motion go another place.

I'm already suggesting three names for Admin to consider as co-Mod for me. I will also suggest the 3 mods and time-zone considerations for him.

Jarus thanks for your response. It is highly appreciated. A lot of peeps come here to vent their anger and frustrations real or percieved. This could be so annoying,at other times thought provoking or even funny. A spade should be called a spade we are humans and exhibit some form of bias even in the face of logical reasoning. Elections over lets forge ahead n work together to make Nigeria great. Rhino.dm n z-stranger should be left alone jor(someone quickly goes to check my profile aproko/amebo),if you dont like their gist then let them be,it is not a must commenting on all post abi award dey for highest number of post? Please lets act like adults and be more accomodating, show love with less provocation, less tantrums, less insults, less ethnic bigotry equals Peaceful NAIRALAND.

Tot I was the only one who thinks that guy should be contained! He is always full of hateful comments and death wish to anyone that occupies/occupied any position in Nigeria.
As if he will not sell his state if he accidentally becomes a governor for example.

But come ooo, oga Jarus;

talking about resignations sef . . . . can you explain what you think about resignation and presidential election outcomes as it concerns the moderation of NL political section.

Cant find a better way to put it so as not to sound insulting or confrontational.
