Let Us Have Hr Professionals In The House

Please do we have Human Resource Practitioners in the house so that we can discuss more about our lives. We can also share information that will be of help in the day-day of our jobs. For me, I have a lot to share on HR but I am looking forward to learn more.

Please your responses.

As a human resource professional, What learning principles would you consider in designing a training program?

A training program is a program that provides people with the capabilities they need to do their jobs. It is an important tool used by various organizations, therefore, when designing a training program, I would consider some principles, such as;

(a) A training program ought to have a defined purpose or objective to help the organization meet their needs

(b) A learning program must consider learner’s readiness, learning styles, learning transfer, training categories and issues

(c) Each program must have at the very least the commitment and support of senior leadership, managers and supervisors, and the union, if there is one

(d) A training program must reflect organization’s culture and values

(e) Training programs must use systems or methods that are effective and measurable, as well as cost effective

(f) Training programs should be evaluated and feedbacks provided

(g) Training programs must be credible and valid

(h) Training programs should provide participant with the opportunity to participate and apply the contents of the program

With the new century, came new technologies and the outbreak of online blogs and online websites where various people can put it down as it is, or as they may think right. As a human resource professional, would you look at personal blogs (online journals such as those found in Myspace, facebook, Tagged) of job applicants to help decide if they would make a good employee when hired?

Here is an interesting link to an article that was published in the San Francisco Chronicle;

As a human resource professional, what methods of recruiting do you use at your organization?

Every organization on an annual basis have a programme called performance appraisal exercise to assess and give feedback of performances to employees, however, we need to understand deeply what it takes to conduct a perfect appraisal and to educate non-HR managers and supervisors. Please find attached1 of those presentations that u find useful on same. enjoy it

Monshege,

Before HR is set up in an organization, you must have a perfect and function HR Recruitment policy to attract and retain best candidates, in my coy we have a policy on Recruitment & that has since been a procedure, please find attached a policy on recruitment. Do tell me if it is ok and make your suggestions where necessary, I will appreciate. Thks

Hi yemmight,

I read through your uploaded docs and they were gr8. Thanx a lot for putting them up. But i need some clarification i am in the HR function of a rather small organisation with balance sheet in the tens of millions rather than hundreds or even billions. The documents u uploaded seems like they're for a much bigger organisation than mine, do u think that's true?? What kind of company do u work in? I also wanna know how u got in touch with Human Edge, did u guys make the first move or they approached u? Cos i'm considering proposing hiring an HR consultant to my boss but i'mnot sure how it works and lastly apart from Human edge who has an idea of other good recruitment consutants that won't just chop our money without producing excellent candidates.

Thanks all

I work with a Security Printing coy. I don’t understand what u mean by not true. Though ours is a very big organization with some expatriate in our employment. For Human Edge, they are reliable, we contacted them based on recommendation and they are doing well. This is a company that have a refund scheme if an employee spent less that agreed period in their policy book. These are other HR/Recruitment consulting firm though we are not using them.

As a human resource personnel, you are either good at what you do or you are not. You are either a glorified leader or you are not. sometimes, we get lost in the day to day activities and forget that one of the important tools a human resource personnel needs is trust.

4 Ways to Build Trusting Relationships:
A relationship begins the first time an employee communicates with your company as an applicant. If the hiring process is performed well, a trusting relationship builds. Treat an applicant poorly; they will assume you treat employees the same way. Here are a few tips:
Be respectful and considerate – Respond promptly to candidate inquiries.
Be punctual – Don’t be late, forget, or reschedule interviews.
Be honest – Don’t oversell the position or the company.
Be clear about expectations – Communicate desired job performance objectives.

Good for you. There are many topics you can pick from that relates HR;
Staffing, Training and developing HR, compensation, employee relations are all major topics on HR.
you have sub topics like employment/recruiting, payroll, worker's compensation and benefits (compensation strategies and practice), safety in the workplace, employee and labor relations, employee rights and discipline, unions and management relations. As for materials, google is always there, and you can search your local libraries for information on any topic you choose. Good luck

Hello everyone,

I need help. I have 5 years HR experience (bank) but decided to give marketing a try and am hating every minute of it. I crave to go back to HR like a child would crave for candy but there has been no opportunity. I really would be glad if I could have my HR career back.

Re: Human Resource Professionals: by yemmight(m): 10:46am On Aug 02, 2007
Bum,

Get yourself abreast with current happening in present HR. Get some info @ CIPM, update urself with current HRIS. If you are Graduate/Affiliate of CIPM, fine & if u are not, get exemption to start from P1 & 2 its just less than a year. With all these I bet you will get a desired job. HR jobs are always available in both Tuesday/Thursday Guardian. One of my colleagues will say that this is our time, I mean HR specialists. Get your CV updated. I can design a CV 4 u if ur CV is not properly designed. Sometimes CVs attract HR Recruiters.

Views,

Apply for redeployment officially to HR Mgr. There is no harm in doing that. You might be lucky applying @ the right time. It could just be the time their looking for an HR person or your application may be kept in view. State your current career status. Sometimes HR consider getting someone in House before sourcing from outside.

Gud Luck all
