Investment / Re: Business Opportunities You can start with 30k that will change your life by nigeriaschoolne(f): 5:08pm On Aug 09, 2019
excellencey:
I still remember clearly in march 2016, how I vowed to stay back in Benin to kick-start my life after I completed my BSc. program at the University of Benin, Instead of coming back to Lagos to manage with my parents and five siblings in our house. My decision to start a life in Benin and not come back to Lagos was made for a number of reasons but top 2 of these reasons were >>>

1) I couldn't imagine coming to stay under the same roof with my dad because we didn't really get along that much, he's one person who always had something to complain about and at that point in my life I wanted to stay completely away from any form of bad or negative energy.

2) I love a private and independent life and the only place I was already familiar with asides Lagos that I could achieve that independence and privacy was Benin.

So, somehow I managed to tell my mum about my plans to stay back in Benin and start my life, as you probably imagined, her response wasn't funny, she couldn't accept the fact that her son was done with school and instead of coming back home to her, he had decided to stay back. My mum figured I wasn't coming back home because I was trying to avoid my dad, she knew the relationship between myself and my father wasn't so good but she wasn't okay with my decision. Eventually she told him about my decision to stay back in Benin and he went mad, first he called and threatened that if I didn't return home, I should forget about him been my father, after which he stopped sending me anything money but I wasn't really moved, then he called a family meeting where he made a lot of threats in my absence and then also called his brothers to report me to them. That period, I got several calls both from my siblings and uncles advising and some begging me to leave Benin and return home.

The issue became overwhelming, so eventually, I had to heed to all the advice and pleas and I returned to Lagos.
Getting to Lagos, I didn't know how or where to start from but I had some money with me, monies I had raised from writing exams for people while I was in school, it was about 90,000 naira, so I used 35k from it to make my room comfortable enough for a fresh graduate. I didn't know where to start from with my 2nd class lower result but I knew I had to make money and I had so much love for business. The big question was "What lucrative business was I going to start with 40-50k

For a long time, I contemplated what business I was going to start, fortunately, sometime around May 2016, I stumbled on an advert for training on mini-importation and online sales, and so I signed up for the classes and went through it for 5-days. I was really excited, I had gathered so much knowledge within a short time and so my worries about what business to start with the little money I had was gone, I had received so much knowledge on importation and online sales that I was set to start making good money, so with that excitement, I imported my first set of goods which was some beautiful ladies slippers and purse that I liked and thought would drive massive sales, I ran sponsored ads for those products for close to two weeks without much results, eventually I had to keep reducing the price of the product in order to at least raise back my capital, I was able to sell a few of the products but in the end I had to dash out a couple of them.

That experience wasn't funny, all the excitements and money dreams I had for that business crashed until some weeks after, when I met a young guy online who called himself an e-commerce and mini-importation expert, he changed my life. I had told him how I imported goods with about 42k and struggled to sell them even with the kind of money I spent running adverts on Facebook and then how I eventually dashed out some of the products. He thought me three things that changed my life, gave me a new approach to my e-commerce and mini-importation business and revived my dreams of making unbelievable money from the importation business. The three things he thought me that changed my life forever are >>>

1. How to find a hungry market
2. How to find hot selling and high-in-demand products for that market. Not products you like or products that you think will drive sales
3. How to run targeted adverts on Facebook and Instagram that will produce maximum sales. Not just likes, comment, shares, and inquiries like I experienced with my previous product.

With the lessons he thought me, I decided to give mini-importation and e-commerce another try, so I borrowed 50k from my mum, and this time, after doing my research on the hot selling product to import at a cheap rate, I decided to import some particular hot selling breast lifts, waist trainers and Butt lifter, in total I imported 50 pieces of those products-combined, at both purchase and shipping price of 800 naira per 1 on the average. Guess what after I applied his lesson on how to run targeted adverts on Facebook and Instagram for maximum sales, within 4 days of strategic and targeted ads, I sold off 49 of the products and gave one of the waist trainers to my girlfriend. I sold them at 3,300 per 1 and made a profit of 2500 naira on each of them, the orders were so overwhelming that i had to contact the manufacturer of the products, negotiated for a better bulk deal and imported 120 of the products. Before the goods arrived, about 15 people had pre-ordered and paid in full while I had to take down the contacts of others who had asked to be contacted as soon as new stock arrived.

That period, my financial life changed for the best. I advanced my research skills on hot selling products that drive massive sales and I became more like a guru in mini-importation and online sales, I made and still make crazy money from this business till date.

Sometime in 2017, before I went for my youth service, a brother in church told me about an investment opportunity with his friend who was an exporter of metallic and non-metallic mineral products and just secured a contract to supply a Chinese company 25 tons of muscovite mica blocks. His friend couldn't cover the supply cost alone because he had just concluded a supply to India. So he asked if I was interested in partnering with the guy for that supply.

I had always had mad love for export business even before I finished university, I always knew I would go into the exportation business one day because I had heard that it was a very lucrative industry, but after school, I didn't know how to go into the exportation business , there was no one to put me through, so when this opportunity came, I was glad for the money I was going to make from it but I was more happy about the knowledge of the business that I was going to get from the partnership, so I told my church brother to ask his friend to contact me and also arrange a meeting between myself, himself and his friend. So he arranged the meeting, we met, discussed about the contract; payment terms, duration of supply, cost of covering the supply, everything that concerns product sourcing and shipping and then we drew up a partnership contract but one of and my major condition for the partnership was that he would use that supply as a medium to teach me everything about the business, also help out with my company registration and all registration with governmental and non-governmental export bodies. My total investment in that supply was 50% of the total supply cost which was 1.7 million naira, it was easy for me to raise the money because, by that time, I had made close to 2.1 million naira from my mini-importation and online sales business. I transferred the money to him and immediately the supply was set in motion.

I followed through with the processes and procedures of the supply and also used that opportunity to learn about other metallic minerals and non-metallic mineral supplies, but in the course of the supply, Nigeria called, and I had to heed to the clarion call. I was posted to Abuja, so I traveled to NYSC camp Abuja for the compulsory three weeks orientation after which I redeployed to Lagos for business purposes. While I was in camp, I followed through with the supply by making sure to get detailed updates on the supply processes and also made sure to ask important questions that gave me a quality understanding of the business.

Before the round-off of the 3 weeks in camp and my return to Lagos, the product had been shipped and 50% payment made upon sending of Bill of laden to the buyer's bank. Agreed payment terms on the sales contract signed by both buyer and seller was 50% payment by buyers bank upon sighting of BL, so upon payment of the 50%, I got full payment of my capital while interest was to be paid as soon as buyer got product, confirmed that it met agreed product specifications on the sales contract and pays the 50% balance.

A month and two weeks after shipment of the product, the guy I partnered with called one afternoon to inform me that the products had gotten to the buyer and that the buyer was refusing to make the 50% balance payment, as expected I was really mad, while I was in NYSC camp, before he shipped the product, the guy sent me images of produced mica to be shipped to buyer, these images were great and properly matched agreed specifications on the sales contract, I also remember asking him if he also sent the images to the buyer, his answer was in the strong affirmative and also said that the buyer was very happy with the images he sent to her, he even screenshotted his conversation with the buyer and sent it to me. So you'd understand why I was surprised when the buyer got the product and the testimony was different from what I expected. Before entering into the partnership with him, I had requested for the contact details of the buyer as a condition for partnering with him on the supply. I never thought I was ever gonna need it although I kept it safe anyways. So when this happened, the need for the buyer's contact details presented itself, and off-course I was not prepared to let go of an interest of 1.4 million naira on my investment, I needed to confirm where the problem was coming from and find a way to get an interest for my investment. So I contacted the buyer, introduced and explained myself, it was easy for the buyer to relate with me because at that point she felt helpless too, not knowing how she was going to get help, it appeared she had been scammed. I requested that she sent me videos of the products supplied by the seller. When I got the videos, I was shocked to my bones, it appeared all the images sent by the seller-guy to myself and the buyer as images of ready products were far different from what he eventually supplied.

Apparently the buyer wasn't the only person that was scammed, I was scammed and also deceived, only difference was that I didn't lose my capital although I imagined how much I would have made if I had invested my 1.7 million naira on something else, but on the bigger picture, I didn't completely lose out because I had gained a huge business idea and skill and also acquired quality knowledge of the metallic and non metallic mineral exportation industry and also did some personal research and study on local sourcing of some agricultural products that are in high demand on the international market and how to supply them. Basically, I had gathered knowledge on the pricing of these products which included local sourcing-prices of these products both in-season and off-season and also learned the international selling prices both in season and offseason. I had also learned how to find ready buyers for these products and how to position one's self to be found by international buyers of these products, I had also learned everything I needed to know as per shipping, inspection of products and a couple of other things too many to mention in this write-up. So like I said, on the bigger picture I had almost completely achieved the main reason for which I partnered in the supply although there were also some important things I had not learned.

My plan was to get the remaining information about the business from the guy at the close of my partnership with him. So after getting the videos of product supplied to the buyer, I contacted the seller guy, he was surprised to find out I had gotten the truth but then he was still trying to play smart, at this point the buyer was constantly contacting me and begging me to help her handle the matter, I also needed to get at least something for my investment because apparently the first 50% was divided into two, half of which was paid to me to cover for my capital while the seller took half, it appeared to me that a large chunk of the 1.7 million I paid to him went to his pocket and then he also got over 1.4 million naira from the first 50% paid by the buyer.

I contacted my lawyer and involved the police on the case, he was invited by the police but for a long time no serious headway was made on the case and so I had to abandon it. But something remarkable happened which also made me neglect the case, some weeks down the line after I established contact with buyer, she chatted me up one morning asking if I could supply muscovite mica blocks to her. I suppose after her experience with the guy I partnered with, she didn't know how to trust the other suppliers who had contacted her but based on our conversations till that point, she felt she should give me a try. It was an opportunity for me, but at that point I hadn't done the very important things that could enable me to export those products, I thought the guy would help put me through the registrations at the close of the transaction with him, but unfortunately, things didn't eventually go as I planned them.

I knew I needed to take advantage of the opportunity that presented itself, so one way or the other I found a way to get the information I needed from elsewhere, that was how I was able to register my company (GAVI GLOBAL RESOURCES LTD) duly registered with the corporate affairs commission, also registered my company with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Special Control Unit against Money Laundering (SCUML) and other export registration bodies. I was able to build one of the most standard commodity trading business website in Nigeria (www.gaviglobal.com). Today, anywhere you are in the world, if you search for Muscovite Mica Mineral suppliers on google, my company website will appear on google's top page, we get at least 20-25 inquiries from international buyers every day.

So I signed a one time contract with the buyer to supply 10 tons of muscovite mica, to be followed by a bigger and recurrent contract if the first supply meets the buyer's product specifications. After that supply, my company entered a long term contract with the buyer and till date we supply at least 5 times a year to that buyer alone. Last year we made a total profit of about 10 million naira from supplies to that client alone.

Late last year, we got our first supply of agricultural product, 10 tons of cashew nuts to be precise and we're currently preparing two supplies, a container(27 tons) of muscovite mica supply to same client and another 10 tons supply of cashew nut to the same buyer we supplied to late last year. We're planning on increasing our supply capacity because for some time now, we've been turning down supply orders because our hands are full, it's really not easy managing my mini-importation and e-commerce business and the exportation business with only two primary staffs working with me.

NOW TO THE MAIN QUESTION YOU PROBABLY WANT TO ASK, which I guess is; Purpose of this write-up

So in the interest of full disclosure, Gavi Global Resources Ltd is building a community of global commodity traders, mini-importation and e-commerce experts. The Philippines Educational system is one of the finest in the world. Its curriculum is patterned the American style yet far cheaper than US or UK.
Philippines is the largest English speaking country in south-east Asia and the environment is peaceful, the country is beautiful and the people are very friendly.
There are intakes in all semesters including summer (June, Nov & April)
Tuition cost varies from school to school and also depends on program-course.
An average university tuition of $600 USD per semester.
Some courses are cheaper though while some are more expensive.
It is worth emphasizing that students are not allowed to work during school sessions, besides the curriculum is so tight and students are likely to be busy 7days a week.
Your student visa makes it easier to travel around Asia like Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore etc and any other part of the world if you have the desire to apply and sponsor the cost.
Students are expected to get their accommodation, feeding is also their personal responsibility. School dormitories are walking distances to school while outside can cost an average of $100 for a comfortable apartment with 24 hours light and water supply.
Some students prefer to share accommodation with other students to save cost.
You will also be expected to annually update your student visa as at when due.
As of 2014, about 8,000 Nigerians are studying in the Philippines and more than 500 students arrive the Philippines each year from Nigeria till Date

Crime / Re: 27-Year-Old Man Commits Suicide In Uyo, Akwa Ibom, Drops Suicide Note by nigeriaschoolne(f): 5:03pm On Aug 09, 2019
waywardpikin:
I have been through a lot. A whole lot in my life. I have suffered and was baptized into the hard life from a tender age. I've suffered gross emotional and physical abuse from parents who love me but didn't know any better. I was slow to learn academically before I eventually picked up, it took a while before I could master the alphabets and 1-100. I was a slow writer, they always had to wait for me before cleaning the board.

My schooling was a hit and miss. I was constantly last position or almost from Js1 - Ss3. I was a truant, I didn't fit in, I was an outcast, no actual friends if I must say. You know those high school movies that have jocks and losers? I was the chief loser. I tried to find religion, it seemed like religion rejected me. Boarding school was hell for me. I dropped out off my first university in 300 level. Why? Horrible grades.

I had about 20 carryovers for a course I never wanted to study (Medicine) in a fùçked up school (Madonna) I didn't want so I did the maths that it'd be better if I took jamb that year, enrolled in another school and did a 4 year oshaprapra course and be done with education altogether. My dad hated me, and why not? All my life I had been a perpetual source of disappointment and a colossal waste of sperm. A waste of money and oxygen. He always looked at me like he wished I came in another package. Like I was everything he didn't want.

Home was hell for me, so I hit the streets and got something doing (a job). It took another 2 years before I would gain admission into another school to study Economics oshaprapra and get out. This time, I really tried hard to put in the work even though I didn't give in my complete best (women and flexing no gree person), and I ended up the second highest graduate from my department by the time I finished. I have never liked maths btw. I just changed my mindset towards what I wanted to achieve from that uni and a little more maturity also helped.

I've only really loved two women in my life but it was my experience with the latter that left me seriously fùçked up. The goddess that she was, she left me mostly cos I was broke, and she was everything to me. I tried to overcome it, couldn't eat, felt deflated, defeated, dejected, useless and worthless. You know when you see food but you can't eat it, when you can't listen to music cos everything reminded you of her. The hot tears that would roll out of your eyes despite how much you try to hold it in?

The damage that would do to your self esteem, the gaping vacuum her exit would have left in your life. What are you going to do with yourself now that she's gone? Years after, faint tremors of my encounter with her and how epic our love was and what she put me through, it still reverberates with me sometimes. That was most likely one of my lowest points in life. I had never felt so sad.

The truth is, I understand when people kill themselves in cases of love and heartbreak. But I cannot accept it.

It's a cop out.

I have set up businesses that have been colossal and embarrassing failures and waste of time. I have engaged in hustles that have required me to swallow my pride and my shame. I have lost over a million naira before, it was hell. I went from hero to total zero. Less than a year later I made that money back. I wouldn't have made that money back if I had offed myself. We need to control our thoughts, it starts from there. No condition is too bad, it is our mindset towards the problem that is bad. And most of us don't take action, we prefer to sit and pray.

Prayer and wishful thinking isn't going to solve your problem or pay your bills. Take action, do something - anything. Get creative. When your back is against the wall you should fight back, that is when the best of you comes out cos you are fighting for your survival. That is why it is called a 'survival instinct'. But now, people take the easy way out instead of staring into the eye of the storm.

Life was never meant to be easy. The satisfaction is in overcoming all insurmountable odds. Does nobody want that anymore?

Studentscalenda:

This article provides a list of all the private universities in Nigeria, based on the information we gathered from the official NUC website.

There are several private universities in Nigeria; however, they do not all possess NUC accreditation / licence to operate.

The National Universities Commission (NUC), which serves as the regulatory and accreditation body for universities in Nigeria, is responsible for ensuring all private universities in Nigeria meet certain requirements.

In recent times, the NUC has granted licences to individuals, corporate bodies and religious bodies to establish private universities in the country.

Needless to say, it is extremely important to make sure a private university is NUC accredited before enrolling yourself, child or ward into it.

Here are the NUC accredited private universities in Nigeria:

Politics / Re: Return To North Now, Northern Elders, Youths Order Fulani Herdsmen by nigeriaschoolne(f): 10:32pm On Aug 02, 2019
dailynaijamode:
Members of the Northern Elders Forum and the Coalition of the Northern Groups have asked Fulani herdsmen to leave the southern part of Nigeria.

They said the herdsmen should return to the North where their (herdsmen) safety and that of their property could be guaranteed.

The northern elders and the youths said they were worried that some southern leaders had allegedly openly threatened war against the Fulani herdsmen.

They claimed that for this reason, all the herdsmen from the North living in the South should return home.

Recall that the controversial Ruga policy suspended by the Federal Government generated various reactions with southern leaders rejecting it.

The southern leaders had argued that it was wrong for the Federal Government to take people’s land by force and give it to herdsmen who were operating personal businesses.

The rejection was further fuelled by kidnappings and killings of innocent men and women by the suspected herdsmen.

Also, the Coalition of the Northern Groups had given the Federal Government a 30-day ultimatum to resolve the objection raised by the southern leaders.

However, at a press conference after a meeting of the NEF with the CNGs on Tuesday in Abuja, where the youths demanded the return of all the Fulani herders to the North, the NEF’s chairman, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, also backed the youth’s position.

However, Abdullahi said the call on the herders to retrun to the North was borne out of the alleged realisation that their lives had allegedly been put at risk due to the recent actions and utterances of the southern governors.

Abdullahi said, “We are worried about their well-being. If it is true that their safety can no longer be guaranteed, we rather have them back in areas where their safety is guaranteed.

“The bottom line is that their safety is far more important than their stay there. This is a country we all wish to keep together but not at the expense of other sections.”

Abdullahi, who is a former vice-chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, also called for the establishment of a judicial enquiry that would be saddled with the responsibility of determining the quantum of loss of properties by herdsmen and farmers.

This, he said, should be done with a view to paying compensation due to each of the warring parties.

Also speaking at the event, the CNG’s spokesperson, Abdul-Aziz Sulaiman, who presented the position of the northern youths to the elders, alleged that the southern governors had on July 9, 2019, jointly agreed to stop the movement of herders and cattle in the South.

He also said the governors even arrogated to themselves powers to decide which category of herdsmen could be allowed to live in the South and others whom he said they allegedly tagged as criminals.

Sulaiman also regretted that herdsmen were being blamed for the killing of Mrs Funke Olakunri, daughter of the Afenifere leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti.

He said this was wrong as the culprits had yet to be identified.

He noted, “Throwing caution to the winds, Gani Adams, Fani-Kayode, Yinka Odumakin and a host of other southern regionalists shamelessly insisted on changing the narratives around the killing of the Fasoranti lady.

“In the process, they threatened all forms of violations and breaches against northerners including the threat of an all-out war.

“With all these statements and steps taken by the southern governors and opinion leaders, we are worried that none of the northern governors or federal official has deemed it apt to caution them.

“The failure or neglect of the police to trace a connection between the Fasoranti daughter’s murder and the seeming prearranged conduct of Fani-Kayode, Odumakin and Adams by their haste to shift the blame in order to render the Fulani object of attack is certainly suspicious.

“We are concerned about the sincerity of the Federal Government in implementing the NLTP going by the manner previous efforts at executing developmental projects like the Mambila hydro-electric power project and several initiatives on the herdsmen dilemma were invariably stalled.

“We are equally worried that the NLTP is vested in the office of the vice-president that is believed to have frustrated previous projects meant for the North.

“We find it difficult to trust the commitments of this government ,which has for the past four years, failed to execute any positive initiative towards resolving the herders’ problems nor shown any encouraging concern for the dilemma of the Fulani who have been attacked in various states.

“Based on the above observations sir, and the fact that the instigation of hatred against the Fulani persists, we feel obliged to advise the leadership of the Northern Elders Forum to consider calling on the Fulani to forgo their right to live and flourish anywhere in the South and relocate to their various states in the North to ensure their safety.”

We’re not aware of return to North order – MACBAN

But when contacted to know whether the herders would heed the advice, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria told one of our correspondents that it was unaware of the recall of herdsmen to the North and refused to speak further on it.

The National Secretary of MACBAN, Baba Usman, said, “I am not aware of this development. I didn’t know anything about it. I am just hearing it from you now. So, I have no comment on it. I don’t know anything about it.”

ACF spokesman declines comment, says I’m on sick bed

When contacted on whether or not herdsmen in the South should heed the call by the leadership of NEF, to return home, the Arewa Consultative Forum’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Muhammad Ibrahim-Biu, declined comment on the matter.

He said, “I am currently in the clinic. Not feeling well. Just here(clinic) to receive injection. I can’t talk on this please. Thank you.”

No Fulani herdsmen in Benue – Gololo

However, the Leader of Fulani herdsmen in Benue State, Garus Gololo, has said there is no need to ask if the Fulani herdsmen will leave Benue or not, “because we have left the state long time ago.”

Gololo, who spoke to one of our correspondents on the telephone, said that all Fulani herdsmen had left Benue State since the enactment of the anti-open grazing law.

“Why are you asking me that question as if you are not in Benue, (Governor Samuel) Ortom has driven away Fulani herdsmen from Benue. As I am talking to you now, I have since left the state when there was a threat to my life. Fulani herdsmen started leaving Benue State shortly after the enactment of the anti-open grazing law.

“Those who tried to stay behind have to leave when the livestock guards (group enforcing the anti- open grazing law) were impounding their cows and spending millions to retrieve the cows. So no herdsmen is in Benue State now, we have all left,” Gololo said.

Politics / Re: Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial Election : I Contested Against INEC And PDP, Say by nigeriaschoolne(f): 8:17am On Jun 27, 2019
AbokiReporter:

Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial Election : I Contested Against INEC And PDP, Says Akpabio

Senator Godswill Akpabio has disclosed that he contested against the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC at the Akwa Ibom North West senatorial district election held on February 23.
Akpabio said the election that produced Chris Ekpenyong of the PDP as the winer of the election was highly skewed against him by the electoral umpire, the INEC.
Akpabio made the allegation when speaking as evidence in chief in a petition he filed at the National Assembly Election Petitions sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, challenging the declaration of Ekpenyong as winner of the election.
Led in evidence by his counsel, Sunday Ameh, Akpabio said: “If this is (election) how INEC is going to conduct election in Nigeria, it is a pity.”
The former governor of Akwa-Ibom state further disclosed in his testimony that INEC showed a great deal of bias against him by mutilating result from many units and wards in the senatorial district to make sure votes to him were either reduced or invalidated to make them insignificant in overall result in the district.
Akpabio, who was visibly agitated in the witness box, told the court he felt so bad that the election which he got majority of votes cast was mutilated to favour his opponent.
While accusing INEC of hooding election materials when he requested them to prepare his case, Akpabio said, “It was what INEC gave me that I relied on to prepare my case. Out of 169 units in the senatorial district, only in 116 polling units INEC gave us true certified copy of the result sheet.”
When told by the first respondent (Ekpenyong’s) counsel, U. U Njoku, that his claims to winning the election was based on invalidated votes, Akpabio said: “Majority of votes cast for me were lawful while those for my opponent were unlawful.”
In response to Solomon Umoh’s claims, counsel to the second respondent, the PDP, that he (Akpabio) did not vote during the election, because there was no election in his polling unit, Akpabio said it was a great disservice by INEC to say that the result from his polling unit 9, Ward 11 in Ukana West 2 were not recorded in final result sheet for the local government.
Also, answering question from INEC’s counsel, Robert Emukpoeru, that he (Akpabio) did not apply for smart card reader and voters’ register because they will not support his case, Akpabio said he knew that they were sensitive materials which were exclusive to INEC.
Earlier, the three-man tribunal had over ruled the second respondent’ counsel, Umoh , who objected to the admissibility of police report which confirmed that election was peaceful in the petitioner’s polling unit as against INEC’s claims that the result from the polling unit was cancelled due to violence.
But the tribunal in a ruling dismissed the objection raised by Umoh that a witness cannot give evidence on an exhibit that he had not been listed in his deposition and affidavit on oath, insisting that it was not listed among the evidence in his deposition.
In a ruling, Chairman of the panel, Justice W. Akanbi, said the exhibits were conveniently covered by many paragraphs of the petitioner’s statement on oath and reply to respondents’ response to the petitioner’s petition.
“We are of the view it is the duty of the petitioner to tender evidence in open court. The court cannot sit in the confines of its home to sort out exhibits to be identified.
“We hold the view that the exhibits are conveniently covered. They respondents cannot say they were taken by surprise. They were lifted from evidence in court. Objection over ruled,” the court held.
Earlier, a witness, Aniete Ekong, who was subpoena by the tribunal said he would be surprised that there was no result in Unit 9, Ward 11 in Essien Udim Local Government Area, where Akpabio voted in the February 23 presidential and National Assembly elections.
Ekong, told the court that to say Akpabio did not vote during the February 23 election will be “ridiculous.”
He spoke under cross examination, after he was lead to present a video clip in the open court by Ameh which showed Akpabio and wife going through accreditation and voting during the election.
He said he was surprised that INEC is saying there was no election, and that Akpabio didn’t go through accreditation and voting in his polling unit.

According to Youth learn initiative “field trips are a great way to bring excitement and adventure to learning.”

Recently 300 level students from the Microbiology Department (MCB) of Akwa Ibom State University undertook a field trip exercise to the Port Harcourt Plant of International Breweries Plc located in Oginigba, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) places strong emphasis not just on classroom knowledge, but consciously seeks to expose her students to the practical side of their various disciplines. It is our considered opinion and belief that the things students see and experience during exercises like SIWES, field trips, teaching practice, etc not only helps to increase their motivation for learning but also greatly enhances the students understanding and grasp of their subject.

Currently a large number of Geology students from AKSU are on a 2-week intensive field trip exercise. A comprehensive report of that exercise will be .... (click the link below to read MORE==> https://www.aksu360.com/2019/06/mcb-students-from-aksu-visits-interl.html)

Politics / Re: Fake News Alert! These Images Are NOT From IPOB, Army Crisis by nigeriaschoolne(f): 11:43am On Jun 25, 2019
36govs:
Two images flying across social media that are fake and deliberately shared to manipulate people’s minds regarding IPOB and the military action in Aba have been identified.

Yes, we know there is trouble in the southeastern part of Nigeria.

We know soldiers are on the streets of Aba and have been at loggerheads with members of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

We also know Nnamdi Kanu has not backed down on his showdown with the Nigerian government, and the once peaceful streets of Aba, Onitsha, Enugu, Umuaiha and others are no longer at ease.

But what we also know at Vivian Gist is that many of the images flying across social media are fake and deliberately shared to manipulate people’s minds.

We have since realized that some Nigerians are only out to milk this situation to further cause chaos.

What is more worrisome is how many Nigerians are so gullible that they draw their daggers at each other before asking if what they saw on social media is authentic.

Here are some of the fake images we have seen this week of the Nigerian Army’s Operation Python and they have nothing to do with the Army-IPOB faceoff.

1. Biafra Rocket Missile

This was just released by a blog and it is so fake! There is nothing like that.

This was the creative burial ceremony of a staunch member of the Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) sometime in July 2017.

His kinsmen simply decided to build his coffin in the shape of a rocket and painted it in Biafra colours.

Here are more pictures from the burial ceremony.

2. Burning of Hausa men

There is also this video being circulated on WhatsApp purportedly of IPOB members burning two Hausa men.

It is FALSE.

Renowned journalist, Kayode Ogundamisi who takes factchecking seriously tweeted about the video saying:

“Video does not have anything to do with the current crisis, it is a video of a mob lynching of alleged robbers. Close study of the video has multiple persons describing the activities of Armed Robbers, no reference to IPOB.”

Furthermore, no security agency has confirmed such an incident ever happened.

“When you receive any information, video, photos regarding current crisis, always fact check before sharing,” he added.

Politics / Re: REVEALED: How Politicians Hijacked INEC Officials, Compromised Military by nigeriaschoolne(f): 11:43am On Jun 25, 2019
TheTrueSeeker2:
Imo REC loud on how to make elections free and fair Says human involvement must be reduced for electronic machinery Regrets effects of poverty, role of military; recalls day police almost shot him on duty

The 2019 general elections have since become history, but reactions trailing the exercise appear unending. In this no holds barred interview with our man, Chidi Nkwopara, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Professor Francis Ezeonu, recounts his experience and the way forward.

The 2019 general elections have come and gone. Can you please, give us an overview of what happened?
Well, like you said, it has come and gone, but for me, it afforded me a lot of opportunities to learn a lot of things. Definitely, the last general elections posed a lot of challenges.

Like I kept saying before the elections, it was the most deliberately planned election in Nigeria. We had a strategic plan. We had election project plan.

What about the implementation?
Well, in terms of implementation, things did not go as swiftly as we had planned. There were hiccups in some areas, especially with respect to human factor, areas where human beings had to get involved. You would realize that what you thought was different from what others had in mind. It was a clash of interest or modus operandi of sorts, if you like to put it that way. We wanted an election that would be very free, very fair, nonviolent, friction-less, very credible and thoroughly in the best international practice.

Would you honestly say that the Commission achieved these lofty goals?
I would say to good extent but I must also concede that there were several contending factors along the line of duty. One is the politicians themselves. There was too much desperation on the part of our politicians. This issue of desperation attained feverish peak! There is this other point I would like to make public at this point. I call it attitudinal factor, largely because of hunger. There is too much hunger and poverty in the land. Every person sees every little opportunity, as a golden chance to make quick money. This is so much so that even some people we entrusted with some responsibilities, as adhoc staff, sadly sabotaged the Commission.

Can you please, be more specific here?
Of course, I am sure you heard the story of how we moved from using lecturers of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, FUTO, because we felt that most politicians were already used to them. We reasoned that they may have had personal relationships, which they didn’t want to break or some other unverifiable reasons. So, from the experience we had during the presidential election, we requested that we get collation officers from another place. Lecturers were sent from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Abia State. Unfortunately again, even before they could reach the State INEC Office, they were contaminated half way. They were hijacked. They did not report to INEC the night preceding the election day as directed and in the morning, stories were all over the place that something untoward had happened. And we knew what happened. So, we had to make alternative arrangements. That was why you could recall that the collation of gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections started very late, because we had to make alternative arrangements to save the integrity of the exercise. I must also state unequivocally that but for this prompt action, we would have found ourselves in a deep mess!

So, what next?
If we can find a way of reducing human involvement or interference in the nation’s entire electoral process to the minimum, that would be trite. For me, the ultimate is electronic voting because when you consider a lot of things, you will realize that it is the best for Nigeria. If you consider the army of workers that are disenfranchised on all election days, you will then appreciate where I am coming from. The youth corp members who are engaged as adhoc staff, don’t vote. The journalists who monitor the polls, INEC staff, police, army and other security personnel do not also vote. When you check the population of registered voters who are disenfranchised on all election days, you get worried. At the end of the day, I have not ceased to ask if the people that were finally elected, actually represent the rest of us that could not vote. So, if there is a situation when we can relieve these people of this burden and allow them to vote and of cause, allow our votes to go right, I think it will make a lot of sense. We may not be ripe for it but the ultimate will be electronic voting.

If the 2019 elections were to be repeated, are there things you will do differently?
Certainly! Lessons have been learned and we will keep learning. There were things that happened, which, with benefit of experience, I wouldn’t want. Immediately after the presidential election, you were here in the state and witnessed what happened, I had to restrategize, because it became clear to me that the strategy we put in place, did not run perfectly to our purpose. So, we had to re-engineer the process. And of course, we have to keep re-engineering the process until we get to perfection. So, there is no way you can keep repeating the same thing and expect a different result. So, if I say that I won’t do something different, it will look as if we conducted a perfect election. I know we did not and we can always improve on the system.

How do you assess the activities of the security personnel in the last polls?
Actually, this remains a problem and it was at the centre of the crisis we had in imo State.

How?
There is this provision in the Law that you don’t move electoral materials except they are accompanied by security personnel. This means that INEC is not totally in control of the security agencies. It means that we are working at their instance and pace. There were issues when we had delays in deploying materials to the RACs, because of the uncooperative attitude of the security agencies. It was an issue and at a point, I had to escalate it to the INEC Chairman. In some other places, when we wanted to move materials to the local government councils to RAC centres, you didn’t see the security personnel again. It became a serious problem. Even at a particular occasion, we were unduly delayed from taking out materials from First Bank because they were not there! This is especially the lead security agency, the police. So, it was a great problem. Virtually every security agency in Nigeria got mobilized for the last election! It was worrisome. At a time, we had people from National Intelligence Agency, the Defence Agency and all sorts of agencies, coming and wanting to be part of the exercise and we tried to resist this, because some of these things impinged on the touted independence of the Commission. And until we control what happens in the field 100 percent, we will not get it right. The law is that actually, the security personnel should be handed over to the Commission, for the purpose of prosecuting the election, but in practice that is usually not what happens. It must also be said that because of the command and control within these security agencies, they don’t take directives from you. They take instructions from their bosses. On one occasion, a police officer almost shot me!

What happened?
He refused me access to the office. This was on an election day. I was well kitted, had my identification card and official vehicle and they refused to let me pass! Well, I got infuriated and did something in security parlance that I almost committed suicide, because I came down and removed the barrier, so I could gain access to my office and they cocked and pointed their guns at me. They almost shot me! And it was a very terrible experience. Unfortunately, I lodged a formal report to the police authorities but nothing happened. Things like this, give room for serious worry, as to what you meet when you go for election. So, if a Resident Electoral Commissioner can be handled that way, you can then imagine what happens to people out there. There were also instances where vehicles conveying election materials and personal were intercepted and conscripted, because there were no security persons. A vehicle is supposed to take materials to polling units and at the material time, you have no security to accompany them. You don’t have to keep waiting for security agencies because at the end of the day, INEC takes the blame for late arrival of voting materials and adhoc staff. So, when I get such information and I make contacts with the security agencies and I feel that they are not prepared to do anything fast, I direct my staff to move the materials to the polling units. In one or two places, these things were conscripted by the police!

You reported your experience with police formally and nothing happened?
Well, it was what happened in battle front. The most important thing was that I was able to overcome the incident and delivered on the election. It is not an isolated case. There were a lot of such incidents in many places in the state, and this is part of why the Commission is having a review of the last outing, because we have to document such incidents. I also have a feeling that it didn’t happen only in Imo State. I shared my near ugly experience with other RECs and they told their own stories. There is no doubt that this is very worrisome. I think that with time, these things can be ironed out.

Imo now holds the ace for announcing result under duress. Does this not prove that our Electoral Law is insufficient?
Sure. I won’t go deeply into this issue because the Commission has assured Nigerians that it is going to appeal the judgment. There is no doubt that there are some aspects of our laws that need to be properly reviewed or interpreted. It is just like the issue of party primaries. There is this law that INEC cannot refuse names submitted by the national headquarters of any political party. But they do this in isolation, forgetting that Section 87 of the Nigerian Constitution provides the condition for somebody to emerge. It is only when somebody has emerged that the name should be forwarded to INEC. So, I am happy with what happened in Zamfara and Rivers States. The ruling about the two states clearly defined it. Also, this idea that once a declaration is made, nothing else can be done, gives ample room for worry. I looked at some aspects of the last judgment over that but because I am a referee,it is not proper for a referee to start commenting on the quality of a player or team. We did our job to the best of our ability. The law is there. INEC is going to appeal and at the end of the day, all these things will help to develop the law. There is no doubt that there are some loopholes in the laws that we need to plug. The sad thing is that the people who are supposed to plug these loopholes are the politicians who are beneficiaries of the same loopholes. It is clear that sometimes, they don’t want these things done.

Are there INEC or adhoc staff that were penalized for being on the wrong side of the law?
Well, yes. We have internal mechanisms for dealing with people we had issues with, especially dereliction of duty. At one instance, I had to relieve an Electoral Officer, EO, of his responsibilities. He didn’t do anything criminal but there was dereliction of duty and I felt sabotaged on the election day. I handed him over to the security and I took over his job as the EO. He was thoroughly investigated and later given a clean bill of health. There was nothing criminal about his act and was released. It was just a case of dereliction of duty, which we have handled internally. There were a number of other incidents, which we reported to the police but I do not know how the cases stand now. There was the case of a corper that sold our smart card reader. I handed him over to the police and I didn’t hear anything about it again. Sometimes, you want to follow things up, but you get told that they were not documented and this becomes a problem.

What is your advice to Nigerians?
If we must tell ourselves the simple truth, a system is as good as those who participate in the system, operate it and benefit from it. If the citizens of the country are not committed to having a good election, we cannot have it. If the government in power is not committed to having a good election, we cannot have a good election. If the electoral umpire is not serious about having a good election, we cannot have it. If you look at what has happened, INEC is the most improved public sector organization in Nigeria. There is no doubt about that but the people you are working with are only looking for a way to thwart the efforts. By this, I mean the politicians and even the electorate. This is not a one sided affair. Today, vote buying has sadly come into the nation’s political lexicon. INEC did its best to deploy men and materials, but in the field, we are not totally in control, because we were battling with politicians who were trying to buy votes. We were battling with some security personnel, some of who were bought over and were already working for some particular persons. This is the simple truth. It is not about what an individual can do but it is about how to reform the entire system, so as to do things better.
