BusyUpdates: According to Galaxy Backbone and Ministry of Communication, Govt plans to roll out its eGovernance platform very soon. It is based on a MasterPlan that the Korean Governnent spent $500m to develop. Also, Shittu the former Minister of Science and Tech had during the Launch of the eGov Master Plan on 24 May 2019 said it would run on a NIPOST platform and a private company has been incorporated to manage the effort. This is shaping up to be another Mega Failure already. It is built by government officials trusted to do the best for the country but seem to lose sight of that fact somewhere along the way. There are so many fundamental issues wrong with this; too simple and too many to contemplate. Let's look at a few
Firstly, have everything Nigerian eGov running on one single platform is a serious security vulnerability. How? To incapacitate the Nigerian government, all you have to do is to take that platform down and it would be over. The single NIPOST platform would attract many such attack attempts and eventually one such attack attempt would be successful and bring down the entire Federal Government. Each Ministry is supposed to be allowed to develop it's own assets whilst all that is developed is a framework for communication between the ministry platforms. Security is everything. This single point of convergence is a guarantee for failure
Secondly, nations protect their masterplans, especially technology plans and yet government officials of Nigeria received $500m of "aid" from a foreign power for something as sensitive as this? With all the IT skills domiciled with Nigerians, was it not possible for these officials to call a series of conferences for these skilled Nigerians and build a team to work with?? Again security is everything.
Thirdly, whatever the justification, it is manifestly inappropriate to register a private company to run eGovernance Services. It is the culmination of the commercialisation of Govt services which all have budgetary appropriation from the commonwealth of Nigerians. Why make us pay for it again? and then still involve a commercially registered company. When did government need commercially registered firms to render service, regulate the nation, form policy or even collect money for its services? And worse still, one commercial entity to represent ALL Government MDAs under NIPOST platform
Fourthly, why NIPOST platform? A NIPOST under Bisi Adegbuyi that has not achieved any Transformation of NIPOST? We are now to entrust such with the responsibility of hosting the eGov service of the entire nation? Who is Bisi Adegbuyi? he was once an Ogun State delegate for Jonathan in PDP and now turned out to be an appointee of APC from Oyo State. Despite all entreaties can not make headway for or account in respect of all the stamp duties running into Trillions which NIPOST along with other agencies is accountable for. Attempted to collect 1,000 naira every year from Nigerians for a digital addressing framework that is free globally. Violated Executive Order Number 5 of President Muhammadu Buhari. Misled the National Assembly, Presidency and Ministry that NIPOST had signed a contract with a Foreign Company for digital addressing when no such thing had been done because in reality, it was his friends private company mData Technologies that had actually signed the contract for the whole of Nigeria instead of NIPOST. Now this same person has things to do with national eGov and suddenly a private company has been registered to handle the eGovernance through NiPOST platform? Once again, the word scam is beginning to ring bells around this eGovernance program. If it walks, clucks and looks like a chicken, it usually turns out to be a chicken. The eGov project will be a disaster on a massive scale if steps are not taken to reorient its course.
Olamsoh: This is a follow up to my post above as regards salaries of teachers in "specific location".
Negotiation is key to getting the needed salary, although preference is given to B.Ed & B.sc edu. gradutes because that is their terrain. More often that not, they are paid the same with other degree holders. A "few"schools pay them a little above other degree holders.
P.S. Schools that are starting CANNOT pay you the needed salary. Some would increase your salary as the number of pupils increases, though there are exceptions especially for schools in highbrow areas and A'level or sixth form schools.
1. Ikorodu-Bayoku, Idiroko, Ajegunle, Igbogbo e.tc, some schools in Surulere 15k-22k (Likewise in Uwelu, Barrack and after the Airforce barracks in Benin, Edo State). 2. Bariga- Somolu & Bajulaye 28-30k depending on your qualifications; 3. Festac, Mile 2 & Apapa- 45-75k depending on your qualifications, PDGE inclusive; 4. Lekki-80k- 160k depending on your experiences, professional certifications and qualifications, Nursery and primary 40-60k(source: luffskidz); 5. Gbagada-60k depending on qualifications, experience; (oluemmakay could be reached for details). 6. Anthony- 70k depending on the school and location experience counts a lot plus professional qualifications; 7. Akute-Ajuwon Axis- 35-45k depending on the location, qualification and experience. Most of them usually have high turnover of teacher.... that leaves much to be desire (visit some post on pages 1-23). 8. Ipaja- 35-50k depending on location, qualification and experience... some are ready to give you accommodation. Based on information gathered on this thread, they would want applicants living in that axis. 9. Ayobo along Redemption camp-18k-28k (Not all schools in that location would pay such salary. Just a handful are willing to provide accommodation). 10. Jabi(Abuja), Maraba, Nyanya 25-45k- it depends on the school & location. 11. Ekiti depending on the school- 20k, some 35-45 depending on qualifications. Accommodation is provided for some schools. 12. Ile-ife- 60-75, depending on school location, British/Nigeria curticulum, qualifications and professional qualifications. Accommodation is given in certain school for experience hire. 13. Kwara-13k schools around Ansaru-deen, tanke, Taiwo, post office 25-30k 14. Zaria- 20k upwards 15. Ondo - depends on the curriculum, if it is A sixth form 80-150 with accommodation provided you have the perquisite qualifications. 16. Ogbomoso- details are still sketchy 17. Ogun- Mowe, Ofada, Lambe, Matugun, Ijoko, Are-po It depends on the school, curriculum, qualifications and experience. In Abeokuta, there are A-level schools that pay well such as Daywaterman e.t.c other Nigeria curriculum schools to the best of my knowledge 60k. 18. Onitsha- 12-20k depending on school, qualifications ( from Information gathered, irrespective of qualifications in some quarters, they cannot pay above 40k). 19. Bayelsa- In Bayelsa, Belary Schools, Ayakpo Schools, Faith Comprehensive Sec. school (FACISS), Winners Academy(Not owned by Winners church o), Bieodomo Schools, Divine Comprehensive, New Total Child Academy and Benny Schools are the "Big ones" (though some other schools are springing up and giving the aforementioned schools a good run for their resources). so Belary = 30,000 entry level may rise to 40 0r 45 but not above 45 plus Accomodation for few staff. Ayakpo = same as Belary but with little/no accomodation. FACISS = 30000 Entry level but can pay up to 60000 Winners = Negotiable entry but more rules as it regards dress style. Bieodomo Schools = 35000 (but no holidays even in August else be ready to lose the month's salary) Divine Comprehensive = 30,000 and may hit 60,000 depending on your impact. New Total Child Academy = same as Divine Comprehensive Benny Schools = Negotiable entry salary but not below 25000.
With this, you should be guided on what smaller schools pay. the Minimum here in Bayelsa is 5000 (for WAEC holders teaching in private primary schools)
Feel free to ask questions or add if you are also in Bayelsa.Source: Makozona
20. Porthacourt- information from reliable source gathered from their thread and Morrygreat corroborating the said information. 25-30k. They also have the A-level schools that pay as high as 70k.
21. Ejigbo- 35-50k, power of negotiation is important and experience.
Caleb schools- 70-100k Redeemers schools -90-150k Chrisland- 80-120k British international- 150k Turkish international- 145k American international 200k Pampers- 95k
I also sympathise with school owners because they spend a lot, the reason they set up the business is to provide services at acceptable profit and reduce cost to the bearest minimum.
WARNING: The above should not be relied upon totally. You can either bargain below or above the stated figures above. I STRONGLY advice you do your findings so as to ascertain what is obtainable in the location above.
*Love him, hate him! Mr. Godwin Obaseki is an enigma. A colossus, whose kind of politics since assuming office in 2016 as the Executive Governor of Edo State has caught the traditional politicians in the state napping. It is now, “business unusual.” Edolites love him, the common man on the streets also love him, the market women adore him.*
Since coming into power, he has embarked on massive infrastructural development in all nooks and crannies of the state, thus endearing him to the people. For example in Esanland, towns and villages like Ekpoma, Irrua, Uromi, Ubiaja, Ewu, Ibore and several others too numerous to mention have been uplifted, schools renovated, rural and sub-urban roads revamped, Erosion threats and challenges checked, water scarcity confronted.
Within this three years span, there has been massive improvement on the state’s economy and diversification of the economic base of the state. Thus, he has been managing very well the scarce resources from the federation accounts. Not done yet, roads and adjourning streets are being asphalted and reconstructed, work is ongoing night and day to complete the neglected secretariat/Palm House building at Sapele Road in Benin City, abandoned for over 40 years.
The Benin Technical College is undergoing massive transformation and ultimately, when completed, will be able to train youths on technical skills in engineering, amongst others. This is in accordance with the realities of the present age. That is, vocational and technical skills that will make them not only self-reliant but also employers of labour.
The Edo State innovation hub at I.C.E. Road, Benin City is to assist the teeming unemployed youths to develop their innate abilities and acquire useful information and technology skills. This will inevitably enable them to develop business plans, write business proposals and essentially how to source for funds to commence small and medium scale businesses.
Due to Governor Godwin Obaseki’s insatiable urge for innovation, the Edo job portal has been created. This is simply a transparent and credible way of appointing qualified candidates into the state civil service through this job portal. That is to say, graduates of Edo State indigenes can upload their credentials and application using the website (www.edojobs.edostate.gov.ng)
This is in keeping faith with one of his electoral promise in creating over 200,000 jobs for Edo state people through partnership with both private and public sector operators, thereby eliminating the use of god-fatherism to secure appointments into the state’s civil service.
Obaseki is calm, calculated and has a reticent personae. Despite his convoy, being pelted with stones by hostile youths of Edo Central (Esan) at a time, he was unperturbed to bring the dividends of democracy to their doorsteps.
Not finished yet, the great unforgotten legend of democracy, Ambrose Alli was re-enacted in a quiet and standard event to mark the 29th anniversary of the death of the Esan and Edo political icon and hero who inadvertently set the stage for what gave Bendel State (Edo and Delta), the edge to compete with the rest of the Western region of Nigeria as one of the most educationally advanced parts of the country.
On September 22, 2018, all of Edo and Delta and the rest of the country stood still and paid tributes to this hero-Ambrose Alli, who unfortunately has been treated poorly for decades. Also, recall that Chief Anthony Anenih, an Esan man, who bestrode the political space under the alias of “Mr Fix it”, was given a hero’s burial despite being in the main opposition party (PDP).
Whether he will run for a second tenure in 2020 largely depends on the people of the state. Why wouldn’t he, if he has worked credibly to the satisfaction of Edolites.
Apart from the array of traditional politicians, who feel sidelined by not getting their “cut” from the state’s treasury, he has performed well to the admiration of the people, whose sole interest is uppermost in his mind. Despite the resistance of the APC leaders, Obaseki has been getting accolades and endorsements from the party leadership in the state. Suffice it to say that his support base is swelling by the day as the people he has defended these past three years are lining up behind him.
In a statement by the state APC Publicity Secretary, Chris Azebamwan, “Members were unanimous in their conclusion that the House of assembly election results equates to a referendum of the administration and the performance of Mr. Godwin Obaseki as governor. It, therefore, amounts to an implicit and explicit vote of confidence on him by the citizens of Edo State who have, in very clear and unmistakable terms indicated their preference for a House of Assembly that would be supportive of the vision and mission of the governor without distraction whatever.” The state exco, he added, “resolved that in line with the mandate, the party would continue to sustain its avowed commitment to give the government and administration of Obaseki the needed support to keep it focused and on track.”
By and large, Governor Godwin Obaseki is a democrat, technocrat, an administrator par excellence and a detribalised Edolite.

BeautifulMind2: We Will Deliver On Awka Millennium City Project... Dr. Clem Nwogbo
Dr. Clem Nwogbo, Group Chairman of M-P Infrastructure speaks to Uche Nworah, MD/CEO of Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) on the reason his company, M-P Infrastructure is partnering Anambra State Government in building Awka Millennium City.
(1) What Informed your decision to come home to Anambra State to invest?
For us at M-P Infrastructure, Investing in Anambra was a question of when to go in, not why we should go in. We were never in doubt of the huge economic potentials that abound in Anambra State. We have been following the activities of Governor Willie Obiano since inception and the progress the state has made using several indices. We attended the Governor’s Lagos and Abuja outreach events with Anambra diaspora where he preached the ‘Aku Luo Uno’ Message and were completely sold on his ideas. As an investor, you look out for a location where the operating environment is stable and not hostile, you also consider the ease of doing business in such location, how easy it is to enter, of course the buying power of the people and good returns on investments. We found all these in Anambra. Perhaps one of Governor Willie Obiano’s enduring legacies in the state is the setting up of Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA), the one-stop investment office for everything investment in Anambra State. They have helped in making us to register our footprint easily in Anambra State.
We first started with our agricultural project at Igbariam which began operations in 2016. Lynden Integrated Farms is a modern integrated poultry farm project located at Igbariam in Anambra East Local Government Area of the state. That investment is going quite well. It is probably one of the biggest mechanised poultry projects not only in the South East but in Nigeria.
I am from Awka and have always believed that our people can live, work and play better. Unfortunately, our research showed that it is not possible to create the kind of living and lifestyle that we see in places like Lagos and Abuja from the kind of old city planning that was done in Awka. That really led our thinking towards creating a brand new city within Awka. The project which we call Awka Millennium City is also in line with the ambition of the state government under Governor Willie Obiano to bridge the housing deficit in the state.
(2) About Awka Millennium City
The Awka Millennium City is an ambitious yet iconic, master-planned gated- community Public -Private partnership (PPP) project which will be a large-scale residential neighborhood with residential, commercial and recreational uses and amenities, such as schools, leisure and entertainment centers, parks and playgrounds.
The city will be located within the 3-Arms Zone which will also house the new offices and residencies of members of the executive, judiciary and legislative arms of government. Many dub this zone the new Awka. It will come with 24 hours CCTV Surveillance and access control, underground cables, water treatment, sidewalks for jogging and sporting activities etc.
You can liken Awka Millennium City to the best estates in Lagos and Abuja and it will be completed in 30 months. However, Phase 1 involving 25 hectares out of the total 100 hectares will be ready within 18 months. The investment value of the project is $46.5 Million with the state government donating the land as equity. Profit sharing ratio is 73% for M-P Infrastructure and 24% for Anambra State Government. 3% has been reserved to fund community social responsibility projects.
The project has been structured in such a way that companies and individuals within the value chain will all derive value. We are projecting the creation of at least 400 direct and indirect jobs. We will be using some local suppliers also. For example, we have concluded discussions with Anambra State Hydrafoam Company for a N120M contract to fence the whole project site. Think about the trickle down effect of this on the local Anambra economy.
(3) Who can subscribe to own a home in Awka Millennium City?
Unlike what some are insinuating, we are not building a billionaire city. His Excellency, Governor Willie Obiano was emphatic about this. This is why in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), we are committing to dedicating 25% of the 100 hectares to built-up housing stock for anyone interested to subscribe. This means that M-P Infrastructure will actually build these houses and then offer them for sale to Ndi Anambra and other interested subscribers. The houses will include 5-bedroom, 4-bedroom, terrace and detached homes.
The remaining 75% of the 100 hectares fall under what we call site and services offering where interested subscribers purchase plots of land and build according to approved prototypes.
We will deliver on this project and in record time too. We gave His Excellency and Ndi Anambra that assurance at the MOU signing which held at the Anambra State Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia on Tuesday, June 18,2019. We have strong footprints in the state and in other states in telecommunications, agriculture and road construction. We bring our professional, financial capacity and competence in all we do. We are stakeholders in the Anambra and Nigeria projects and believe in the long term development of our state. Ndi Anambra should look at what we did at our Lynden Farms project at Igbariam to understand what our Group is all about. We mean business. I want to use this opportunity once again to reassure Ndi Anambra and other stakeholders of our commitment to delivering on this all important project.

orisa37: Democracy is Government designed by The People for The People's Development. So The People arrange by themselves which way they desire to go.
The President has started violating the provisions for amending The Constitution by This June 12th Issue.
To avoid further violation, The NASS and The State Assemblies should cooperate with The Presidency to agree on the way to grant full Autonomy of Policing, Resourcing and Electioneering control to our 36 constitutional States.
When the above is done, Development will progress therefrom and The People's Patent Rights will be earned and maintained.
Beremx: Two Stadia named after MKO. One in Ogun state and the other in Abuja. The Abuja Stadium has turned to a grazing ground and cattle ranch. I would have appreciated naming of UNILAG after him.
Tony Momoh is senile for saying because of ethnicity, MKO cannot be immortalised by renaming UNILAG.
Ooni you said has its meaning so as oba has it own meaning too. but literarily they both mean king so you and your fellow yorubas brothets should stop fooling yourself and stop making unnecessary tautology the ("ooni" of ife “oba" adetiyan) it is wrong it is simply ooni of ife then his name follows it only shows there is a motive behind adding the oba attach .in the right sense when you mention ooni everyone know you are refferring to a king in ife there is no need for the attachment of oba the British should be blamed for this giving a name to a people not theres the britsh simply saw the oba of benin controlling the south west at thier arrival and simply called those southwest kings oba too just like the northern emirs......no need to trace origin of the name the britsh is at fault here
Member-elect for Onitcha North/Onitcha South federal constituency of Anambra State under the umbrella of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Lynda Chuba Ikpeazu, at the floor of the House of Representatives, seconded the nomination of Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila as the Speaker of the 9th House.
This was brazenly in total disagreement with the decision of her party, the PDP, which had in the early hours of Tuesday, concluded on the aspiration of Hon. Umar Bago.
At the ongoing inauguration of the 9th National Assembly, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) elected to represent Bebeji/Kiru federal constituency, Hon. Jubril Abdulmumini, had nominated Gbajabiamila as Speaker.
Also nominated for the speakership position is Hon. Bago, representing Chanchagi federal constituency of Niger State.
Bago was nominated by Hon. Yunusa Ahmad Abubakar representing Yamaltu/Deba federal constituency of Gombe state and was seconded by Hon. Mark Gbila representing Gwer East/Gwer West federal constituency of Benue State.
The duo said they were nominating Bago based on the spirit of equity, fairness and justice as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Both Gbajabiamila and Bago accepted their nominations to run for speakership.
Voting, therefore, commenced at exactly 3.43pm, using a secret ballot system.
EFCC will prevail in the End! I doubt if Okorocha will ever secure this certificate of return.

Ecstasy154: Few hours to the inauguration of the 9th National Assembly, vote buying has taken the centre stage in both camps of the lawmakers seeking elective positions.
While Senators Ahmed Lawan (APC, Yobe) and Senator Ali Ndume (APC, Borno) are slugging it out for the position of the President of the Senate, Francis Alimikhena (Edo) Kabiru Gaya (Kano), Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia) and Ovie Omo-Agege (Delta) are in a hot chase for the position of the Deputy President of the Senate.
Recall Lawan was endorsed by the presidency and the leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC), while Ndume vowed never to step down but contest even though the party had endorsed Lawan. Lawan had last weekend said that he has the backing of 60 APC members, 38 People’s Democratic Party (PDP) members and one Young Democratic Party (YDP) member, making 99 senators out of the 107 senators that will vote today.
It was, however, learnt that the lawmakers contesting for elective positions are spending heavily to lobby to win the support of members. It was also learnt that in a bid to outdo themselves, thousands of dollars have exchanged hands just to woo members for support.
Despite the endorsement of Lawan, Omo-Agege, Femi Gbajabiamila his Deputy, Gaya, Alimikhena and Orji have vowed never to step down, even when the leadership of APC has taken position.
Alimikhena had on Sunday said that he’s still in the race and has not stepped down for anybody, Gaya while speaking with newsmen yesterday said that he would contest the election today.
He boasted that despite the endorsement of Senator Omo-Agege by the APC leadership, his chances of emerging as DSP was very bright, adding, “this is not my first time of contesting an election. Tomorrow will make it the fourth time and by the grace of God, it will be peaceful.
“I’m still in the race. I will contest with whoever that would also contest the position of the DSP tomorrow. Democracy is actually a game of number. Whoever has the highest number would win.” Boroffice, who withdrew from the race in deference to President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday, appreciated the senators-elect for their support and also thanking them for their warm embrace and a great display of camaraderie.
Boroffice, in a statement by his Press Secretary, Kayode Fakuyi, also appreciated the people of Ondo North senatorial district and friends across the country for their prayers, support and goodwill messages.
“For the far-reaching endorsements, steadfastness and unflinching support, gratitude goes to all concerned political groups across the country especially, the Women for Buhari and Osinbajo group, and the Ondo APC Youth League,” he said.
Orji on his part disclosed that President Buhari had not adopted any candidate. This is contrary to speculations in some quarters that the National Working Committee (NWC) of APC, after wide consultations with the President and other stakeholders of the party, had formally endorsed Senator Omo-Agege as the party’s candidate for the position of Deputy Senate President in the 9th National Assembly.
The former governor of Abia state, who said that he has withdrawn from the contest, added that “I hold the President in high esteem as well as the National Chairman of our great party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and other members of the NWC and as such, I will not disobey any formal pronouncement by them.
“However, I am still in the race to become Deputy Senate President because the President and the NWC have not adopted any candidate and as such the contest is open to all members of the party, who have the capability.
“I have the political dexterity, leadership qualities and goodwill to complement the efforts of the Senate President in actualizing the objectives of the legislature in support the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari in taking Nigeria to greater heights.
“Leadership positions in the 9th Senate should be given to people who have the will to support the agenda of the APC while not deviating from the ideals of democracy.
“As I continue to mobilize support for the position of Deputy Senate President, I commend the President, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and other stakeholders of the party for their support.
“Come tomorrow (today) by the special grace of God and to the admiration of APC members and Nigerians at large, I will emerge as Deputy Senate President in the 9th national assembly.”
Meanwhile, the PDP governors last night met to finally take a position on who the party will support. The meeting, which was held at Bayelsa state governor’s lodge in Abuja, it was learnt was for the governors, under the platform of PDP Governors’ Forum to take their position.
It was also that the PDP senators-elect are having a crucial meeting with the former Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu and Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike to impress it upon the senators, which direction to take and who to vote for during the election.
A source told INDEPENDENT that Ekweremadu invited the elected lawmakers for a meeting with Wike and thereafter a final meeting of the forum will meet at Ekweremadu’s residence.
HeWrites: The governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have said it only endorsed the candidacy of Senate Leader, Ahmad Lawan, and Leader of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, for the ninth National Assembly leadership, Igbere TV reports
The governors, under the aegis of Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) made this known to newsmen after its inaugural meeting on Sunday night at the Kebbi Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
Chairman of the forum and Kebbi state governor, Atiku Bagudu while countering a statement by Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, APC national publicity secretary about alleged adoption of Sen. Omo-Agege by the National Working Committee (NWC) for the position of Deputy senate president said that “the governors would work towards ensuring that only the candidates endorsed by the President and our forum, Lawan and Gbajabiamila succeeded”.
Bagudu said the governors are of the firm belief that the leadership of the party took the right decision when they opted to support Lawan and Gbajabiamila for the principal offices.
Bagudu also added that the choice of people for other principal positions would be determined in due course.
On the crisis in the party, he said members made comments, but was silent on the position of the governors.
He said the governors were solidly behind the President as the leader of the party and were prepared to work with him to take the nation to the next level.
Among those present at the meeting were governors of Kebbi, Edo, Kwara, Kogi, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kano, Jigawa, Ekiti, Osun, Lagos, Gombe, Niger and the Deputy Governors of Borno and Kaduna States.
However, governors of Katsina, Ogun, Ondo and Yobe states were absent and did not send representatives.
It is very interesting that most of the Ethnic groups claim association to the Nile Valley, somewhere in Sudan, Egypt etc. but no association to one another in Nigeria. On their way from or to Egypt through what we now know as Nigeria, these Ethnic groups never met? Usually, they were each King or Queen, first lady. Who were their subjects? It may remind you of most of our parents who always took first in their classes when they were students. Who came second?
Africans are great sojourners, and they left their genetic traits all over the world. Please see YORUBA WORLD EXPLORATION AND THE LOSS OF DYNASTIES. If Africans were in Australia before the time of Christ, in America before Columbus and spread all over great distances, we should wonder why they never knew or had anything to do with one another until the British created NIGERIA!
Apart from the article mentioned above, I also relied on an article by Sola Omole on the Ijaw, another by the Ijaw Nation. Of course, I also depend on different histories of the Ethnic groups. However, I must admit that many are just like blind men describing an elephant we call Nigeria. Each was about its group but not how it relates to Nigeria, the giant of Africa.
Nigerians talk about relatives in Benin Republic, Togo, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Senegal etc. The distance between Maiduguri and Lagos is not as long as that between Nigeria and Australia, yet Nigerians deny each other at home. Ghana, Mali, Songhay Empires were not formed based on Ethnic groups because some of the Empires were bigger than Nigeria. Ibadan, here at home, was built as a cosmopolitan City made up of variety of people.
The people were around the same place from the beginning of time, and traded with one another before the British came. The Europeans heard about ancient civilization trading in gold, they named one place Gold Coast. They heard about Ivory and named another place Ivory Coast. They heard about Ile-Ife Arts and Sculpture - they thought they found lost civilization of Atlantis. They marveled at Benin Bronze; they heard stories of handsome skilful men and women with mystical power; and drugs that can cure many diseases. They discover aspirin, antibiotics and ancient form of writings on the body and tablets. At the same time, they dreaded the diseases of mosquitoes and tsetse flies, sparing us of earlier domination.
Greek historian Diodorus of Sicily, 1st Century B.C, credited the Ethiopians (name for Blacks) as the first of all men created by gods, as founders of civilization and religion in Egypt imported to Greece.
Nigeria is just a “geographical expression” and 1914 are always in the papers and books written by many Nigerians. Awolowo is always credited with the former. It does not mean that he did not believe in one Nigeria, otherwise he would not have campaigned from the South to the North for the Prime Minister of Nigeria. Actually, Ahmadu Bello could have preferred that he stayed put in the South. We now have scholars from the North who actively support one Nigeria, while some in the South are going the other way. In Nigeria, we call that progress!
Sometimes, I wonder what difference it would have made if the Europeans divided Africa in slices north and south or in slices east and west. Most of the Ethnic groups have relatives across Africa east and west, and the same north and south. Could it have been a better Country that way? The so called main Ethnic groups with their relatives across West Africa could have formed one Country. I am sure nobody thinks that could have solved African problem.
Nkrumah, a man before his time, wanted a united African Country. Tafawa Balewa dismissed it as taking independence from the British only to surrender it to Nkrumah. Only Zik cried out loud when Ghanaians were thrown out of Nigeria in early eighties. Lately, the South Africans rejected free African movement for fear of Nigerians dominating their Country, as we did in Ghana in the sixties. When the East African were kicking out the Europeans, they were asked who would replace the educated labor force. Nigerians, they answered. They were warned – Nigerians were worse exploiters than the British! Some Nigerians, thinking about our politicians, may agree.
The difference between Hutu and Tutsi has to do with one being town boy and another country boy. The Somalis are from the same family with the same language, it is still not a peaceful Africa. After the war in Nigeria, the Ethnic groups have fragmented further, even more so in the south. There was an article I read, “My People are killing My People”, about the fight between close relatives – Ijaw, Itsekiri and the Urhobo youths. Or between Aguleri and Umuleri, or Ife and Modakeke or Fulani and Jakun, Tiv or Yelwa and Shendam. I have not added those between Sunni and Shiite, Moslems and Christians over foreign religions. Africans, calling one another unbeliever of foreign indoctrination.
There are autochthonous Africans in Nigeria, no doubt. I also believe these Africans especially in the rain forest are more or less the same in everything. Those in the northern part of Africa or our Country are so close that our origins can not be different. Since one of the oldest human is dated around Lake Chad, how much distance is that to the sea that man could not have sojourned to?
No Ethnic groups deny each other more than the Igbo and the Yoruba. I am totally dismayed when I listen to young men and women who were not born during the political days of Bello, Awo and Zik trade insult as if they were there. Who passed personal prejudice to them? Check out their internet chart sites, it is full of hatred. When I pointed this out to some of my friends, they ignored it since most people stuck to their favorite sites. Some of the comments about our brothers from the North or vice versa are just as caustic. It boils down to ignorance. It is almost a conspiracy – they fear you may know one another as the children of the same father!
The Yoruba, a combination of OYO and OBA from Ife, has been known as YOBA well before the time of Christ in the Nile Valley and later, as far as Papua Guinea. They refused to be converted to later religions like Christianity and Moslem. The same is true about Oba Koso, King of Shango in Kush from the holy City of Ile-Ife - This was written in Coptic text, published in Paris in 1666.
Oduduwa has been thrown into question even within Yoruba and their close relatives in Ijebu and Benin. Fortunately, this ancient icon before Christ is not only known among the Yoruba as Adamu but among our own Ijaw and in Diaspora, during ancient time.
Each Ethnic group in Nigeria has translations for Yoruba and Oduduwa. Does that mean that these Ethnics groups have been in contact with one another as brothers and not willing to admit it? Since migrations happened in waves, those who came first might have recognized those who followed.
I can not fault Chukwu Eke interpretation of history. Indeed we may agree in more areas than disagree. The Igbo of the Southwest may be the same Igbo of the Southeast. I will also add the Northern part of the Country. These people were not known as Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Edo, Urhobo, Ijaw or Efik. They existed as one people moving freely in Nigeria and in neighboring Countries.
The Igbo also claimed affinity with the Nile Valley. They knew the Yoruba well as they claim they were the original inhabitants of the present western part. But Oba Mafimisebi, the Olugbo of Ugbo claimed they were the original inhabitants. After pestering the Yoruba, the Igbo fell in love with Moremi who gave out the secrete that dislodged them. According to Chukwu, the Yoruba called them Igbo (bush people) and in retaliation, Igbo called them Yoruba (Oyo oru Oba) that is “Oyo, slaves of Oba”. He also has a translation for Oduduwa, “Nkaa bu onye odudu wa or Nkka bu Odu wa”, that is their leader. Here, we part.
Phillip Emeagwali also gave a convincing relationship between Yoruba and Igbo. The Igbo had no king but the Yoruba relatives had Obi. He also pointed to a lost Yoruba dialect, Olukwumu spoken in Anioma, Idumu-ogu,Ubulubu, Ugboba and Ukwuzu. This dialect is still spoken in Brazil and Cuba. Onitsha could have come from Orisha. Orisha is still worshiped in Diaspora. I remember how mad some Igbo were that a man of his status would even dabble into such things. I am not surprise, I am a mere mortal and my friends laugh at me when I bring it up too. But it is not new, I heard it among my friends in the fifties - boasting as the real Ibo vs. the YorubaIbo.
I think once people realize that we are not selling out one group for another, education may overcome prejudices. There are only one related autochthonous people in the rain forest, differentiated by sojourners coming in waves from outside.
It took me a while to accept the link between linguistic and people because one can find any word and link it up. Is Ijebu-Igbo a Yoruba town, or Igbo people? Is alligator called oba by Igbo the name of a king? Even Obi has its own Igbo meaning: court house. But how does court house become a king? The similarity in meaning among us only points to common ancestor speaking the same language at certain point in time.
All I am stating is that there is a convincing link between the people of Nigeria. Herodotus 490-425 B.C described the scarification mark on the forehead of the blacks he saw in Egypt. We also know that it took a combined army of the Arabs to drive out the Africans, “sharp shooters of the eye”, out of ancient Iraq in those days. These Africans were not known as Igala, Kanuri, Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, Ijaw or Efik. Anyone interested can pursue this further. Research is easier now than in my own days as a student.
The Hausa claimed that the Yoruba were one of the illegitimate children of Bawo from a different mother. They founded or ruled additional kingdoms of Zamfara, Kebbi, Nupe, Gwari, Yauri, Yoruba and Kororofa after they left Egypt. They claimed that Yoruba was the name they gave the people of the Southwest.
However, the Yoruba in name and religion were known in the Nile Valley and between the Arabs as unbeliever of their religion before the Hausa met them again in Nigeria. I would say they recognize their cousins again during another wave of migration. What can not be denied though is the relationship of both the Hausa and Yoruba to the Sudanese in terms of facial marks.
An article by Ibrahim Waziri on - The Unhappy Marriage of a Quadruple - described the mixture of people in the North with other so called Ethnic groups in Nigeria. Even though he is from the Saifawa dynasty that opposed the Jihaad of Usman Danfodio, like most Northerners, he has Hausa, Fulani, Kanuri, Yoruba etc in him.
Some Ijebu claimed that they were neither Yoruba nor part of Oduduwa dynasty. The Oba of Benin recently brought out a novel claim about Oduduwa as a lost Prince of the last Ogiso. Indeed, the Edo claimed they are the father of most southern Ethnic group. But the Ogiso and the Oba met the autochthonous people, Oru, Efa and Ijaw in Benin.
Professor Obayemi researched eight Ile-Ife, and we know at least two Oyo including the present location. The Yoruba, coming from or to Ife, passed through Borgu, Nupe in the North and the Nile Valley. These were the Cities that were documented; there must be others in between them unmentioned.
The Ijaw went through the same route through Borgu, Beni, Nupe, Ile- Ife, present Benin before spreading to the delta region.
Do all these parts of an elephant belong to the same animal?
If all these groups are the same, they should speak the same language or may be in different dialects and have the same ancestors. I think they all do.
ARCHEOLOGY: The best tools we have are the discovery made in Nigeria in spite of wet acidic soil that is not good for preservation. A relative comparison of discoveries inside and outside of Nigeria can be convincing evidence of our ancient civilization:
Iwo Eleru – 10,000 B.C Between Akure and present Ile-Ife
Nubia culture - 10,000 B.C
Indian culture - 6,000 B.C
Dafuna Canoe near Yobe dated 8,000 years old compared to oldest
Egyptian boat 5,000 yrs old
China culture - 3,000 – 2,200 B.C
Malenician and South Pacific Hawaii – 2,000 B.C
Olmec Mexico- 1,100 B.C
Igbo Ukwu - 10 AD In the heart of Igbo land
I have left out many Yoruba, Igbo and Benin Arts paraded around the world exhibiting African craft before our Asian and European neighbors caught on to our civilization.
The history of the Ijaw by the Ijaw is not that different from that written by Sola Omole. It links all the Ehtnics groups in the south one way or another. This is important because it collaborate our history beyond Nigeria with our relatives in Africa.
Ile-Ife is a common factor in the history of southern Ethnic groups. Other places, as indicated, are Borgu, Bassa, Nupe and Beni/Benin. The first wave came to Nigeria through the same Borgu, Nupe, Ile-Ife and Benin. The Ijaw spread to the delta region from present Benin.
Oduduwa/Adimu/Adumu/Adum. He created a dynasty before the time of Christ in more than one Ile-Ife. One of his descendants was Ujo, a Prince of Ijaw who ruled over the delta, even on his way back to Ife as he got lost. The Ijaw are familiar with Ogiso in Benin as some left Benin when the Ogiso arrived from the same part through Ife. They also know the last Prince of Ogiso Kaladiran/ Ekalederhan who fled before (or after?) Oranmiyan arrived from the Ife. The Benin are very proud of the Oba era but our history began well before that period.
Even the Ijaw met Autochthonous African in Nigeria and were able to rule over them or moved on. They were ORU who met Nigerians before they become Igbo, Hausa, Ibibio, Ijaw, Yoruba, Igala, Tapa etc. The Kumoni who may or may not be the ORU also came. So were the Bantu, Efa, and others.
In Yoruba land the OOYELAGBO/UGBO/IGBO AND ORU became the son of the soil.
In Igbo land the UGBO/IGBO and ORU and EFA and BANTU became the son of the soil.
In Benin land the OOYELAGBO/UGBO/IGBO and ORU and EFA became son of the soil.
In Hausa land the ORU and HAUSA and OOYELAGBO/UGBO/IGBO became the son of the soil.
The Itsekiri are a mixture of OOYELAGBO/UGBO/IGBO and ORU and EFA.
The Urhobo are a mixture of ORU and EFA and OYELABO/UGBO/IGBO
All Nigerians are a mixture of autochthonous people, ORU and other so called Ethnic groups in different mixture giving rise to different languages/dialects adapting to different environmental stimuli.
How dare?
I blew your cover, man! Aborigines of Australia are your cousins, black Americans are your brothers, West Indians are your men. How are you related to them?
However, the ones you live in the same Country with are unknown and unrelated to you.
I was once a professional student in Toronto in the seventies when Stokely Carmichael, American Civil Right activist, came to University of Toronto or York University. One of the student said he was not an African. So Stokely asked him where he came from. He said Trinidad. (Stokely was born in Trinidad). The student said all the Africans died in the sea before reaching the shore. Stokely said he must be a seaman. As we were laughing, Stokely did not find it funny that such ignorant statement came from a student. He told the student that Trinidad was not a Country but a sugarcane plantation. We laughed louder.
Many of the Nigerian Ethnic groups in general and in the southern part in particular are familiar with the ORU people that many of us have ignored for centuries. In many of our villages they retain that name. Some of them have been relegated to the position of slave or ERU or OSU whenever they can be dominated. The same people created dynasties all over Africa and ruled over the autochthonous Africans they met in other places.
Oduduwa was born in Ife by marriage between OOYELAGBO and ORU. He sojourned north and south of Africa creating dynasties until he was overthrown and came back home. He was known in the Nile Valley as Adum, in Nigeria as Adimu/Adumu and among the Ooyelagbo as Oduduwa. The Yoruba are a good example of how we mix in Nigeria.
If this is the case, why can’t we live in peace in any part of Nigeria? Or in Africa?
Animal Behaviorist and Psychologists teach us that you can only have so many mice in a pen. Two will get along fine, especially a male and a female. As the number increases, discomfort and problem start. I will try to examine this in the future. Some of us are claimers of two states, one leg in each state. One leg (h)as an indigene, another leg (h)as a citizen. If you mix that up with land, son of the soil, off/on/in/out shore resources, wahala starts.
Most of us realize that resources can not keep us together and must not separate us. It is not the resources you have that matters, it is how much it commands in the market. Think! If I buy fresh fish for 50.00 naira, package it, and sell it as sardine to you for 150.00 naira. Add 50.00 naira for taxes, shipping and delivery. Replace fresh fish with raw gold, you get the same result. That is 200.00 naira. My brother, you are left poorer than when you started. As poor as Ghana, the Gold Coast.
Take another hint. How much was oil before the cartel and how much is cocoa now?
In order to conserve energy, many countries imposed heavy tax on oil, like tax on cigarettes. These Governments make more on taxes than they make on the bare products. Not in Nigeria, please!
I hope I have created enough doubt in the minds of none believers of Autochthonous people of Nigeria. Ironically, those with ulterior motives will never be moved. More research is needed to bring these people in us to light.
