whoscored use opta data and cover multiple leagues. sqwuaka too.

If you need to use transfermarkt, then announce a caveat that their information is not always accurate.

For example TM gave Beckham 22 assists in the EPL. Official EPL website though credit him with 80.

He is currently at 14 (would more than likely surpass it), 18 last year and 9 before then. If you do your math, it places him at 13.6 per season and that is a respectable discrepancy when you are speaking of just assists.

I am not questioning KDB's ability or quality here. How many great seasons has KDB had in the EPL? Maybe you are right, 2 seasons are enough to include him in that list after all, Modric only played 3 seasons. You make a good argument for his case anyways.

Go and bring out the 6 people in the all time EPL assist table and check how many seasons they have over beckham.

Then check how man assists they have.

Frank Lampard had 609 appearances.

Beckham had 265.


Thats more than double the appearances and the difference is only 22 assists

Gerrard had 504 appearances. Almost double, and the difference is only 12 freaking assists.

For me, there is no need to try to do anything in midfield other than getting back the ball if barca has it there. I will prefer costa to alonso and both moses and Costa should have little to do in attack. There focus should be to tuck in to the midfield a bit to help recover the ball, and running to the flank when we have it to open up space for a a quick launch to the running attackers. We will threaten Barcelona back a lot with those quick launch instead of trying to pass it short or running with it from midfield. if you check well, you will see that i used the word 'real'. All we need is for one of hazard or willian to be running behind the defenders once fab has the ball, while morata keeps their cbs occupied. With fabs job being to locate hazard or Willian immediately the ball touches his foot. With the real fabrepass doing the passing, there is no way we don't have a chance. We will just be using the flank and stretching them. Fab will be the one to play deeper than kante. He does not need to run much. He should be the one to collect the ball from Chris and play diagonally to the running Willian and eden, instead of us trying to play out from the back and conceding unnecessary goals.

I dont even know if Fab has to be spraying passes anyhow because Conte already encourages Rudiger and Azpi to aggresively dribble into oppostion half and spray cross field balls.

Rudiger is very very good at that, and we all know how good Azpi is at finding his striker frm deep.

I'm also backing the fabregas pick, but I'm expecting him to be the one to coordinate our play and dictate the tempo. No need for hollywood balls from him unless it's on. All he has to do is recycle the ball when play breaks down, and offer a passing outlet for give and goes with the likes of Alonso and Moses.

Giroud with Morata indicates a 3-5-2. I am not sure this will work. One of the reasons we did well against Barca was because of the pace and width. We stretched the play and pressed in numbers. Giroud's pace is slower than Alonso's. We need pace for the pressing game.

we didnt press Barca though. They were just tapping the ball around in their half. Thats one of the reasons we struggled offensively, cos when we won the ball in our half and wanted to counter, we had nobody to launch the ball up to and ask to help us hold it.

We were having to run at barca players a lot and more often than not ran into cul de sacs.

Morata always looks like hes out of gas after 70 minutes sef, and thats when hes playing up front, rather than in a supporting role where he has to run up and down the pitch.

i either play 343 or 433 with Haz, Giroud and Morata, or play 352/442 with Giroud/Morata willian/moses/pedro on the flanks jn the latter position.

Either way it means we cant effectively field our best player.

i suspect Conte would like to try that but that means dropping one or even both of Hazard and Willy.

Drinkwater could come in for Fabregas in the 2nd half, if the latter is exhausted.

Giroud will obviously hold up the ball much better than Hazard; and his presence would spur more crosses from Willian, Moses, and Alonso

i like this idea a lot.

We're really lacking that central presence to occupy centrebacks and let hazard work in space between CB and CM.

in theory Morata should offer a combination of mobility and strength, running in behind or holding up as appropriate, but he is just an ekpa that seems unable to do either at a consistent level.

At least Gru gives us certainty in what he can actually do, unlike that sunken spaniard.
