In the evening of the fifth of febuary 2002 , Mike a 21 year old man was in a bar seated at the far end corner drinking , he was about emptying the fourth bottle, he was already tipsy but he knew the drink has failed to bring relief to the tension overwhelming his mind.
mike: she did it. yes i know this. but what if she did not i have no choice.i can not make mistake (mike was talking in a low voice to himself)
That very moment two policemen walked into the bar were joined by another another man who mike recognised to be pius ijeoma's husband he was visibly angry, on sighting them mike lowered his head to hid his face but he had been seen.
pius: That is him!
The policemen and pius walked fast to meet mike, he raised his shocked face up and gently stood up.
policeman: you under arrest (one of the policemen said to mike, as another held him tightly by
them right hand,
mike: what for?
policeman: when we get to the station you will receive explanation.
pius: you stupid boy you dont know why! you devil asking why?
mike was led outside and driven in pius's car to the police station, he was locked up in cell as he awaits the arrival of the divisional police officer that was out at the time.
seated at far end conner in the cell room mike began thinking about the incidence which culminated to that moment in time. He recalled that sunny afternoon a year back at central market in kaduna when he went to purchase a pair of shirt and was on his way home, he was standing by the road side awaiting a taxi when a toyota salon car stoped in front of and lady driver called him with a hand sign to come closer and he did.
The driver: hey how are you
mike: am fine
The driver: please what direction do i take to barnawa?
mike: its a bit far from here, you have to drive straight ahead(he points straight to his right)
The lady: are you going that way?
mike:not really , i stay at sabo but i can show you the way.
The lady: that will be nice, come in .(she opens the front passenger door )
mike enters the car then she drives off.
The lady: I stay at ungwar rimi , I am off to see a friend there at barnawa.
mike: OK , we will soon get there its not that far.
the lady: what is your name? are you working?
mike: mike is my name , I am a phone technician , I have my shop at sabo.
the lady : oh that nice, so you repair phones, I have a phone at home which fell down and the screen broke, you can fix it for me.
mike: yes I can , the broken screen will be replaced with a new one.
the lady: OK I will give you my number , then you can come to my house to see what will be done.
mike: that is OK .
