Please, which do you think is more easily achievable ? (1) You are from which state?. (2) How is your O/Level?. If it is very good, you can also look at Unilag. Unilag uses: JAMB - 50% WAEC - 20% PUTME - 30% |

Congratulations 👏🏾 in advance bro Getting Medicine in LASU is not easy if you are not from Lagos state. There are people that have scored above 300 and did not get it. Medicine in LASU is mainly politics. It is a state university and so Lagos state indigenes have preference. |

horpeyemmi66: One can study Medicine without a single physical textbook. When i was in the University, I use to see my secondary school classmates in Medicine carrying big big books. There were no laptops and mobile phones then and no Internet. I still had this impression which was why I was thinking of physical textbooks. |

horpeyemmi66: Hello Daniel,
Congratulations on begining Medical School properly. So let's cut to the chase, I don't think one has to buy Physical books as most texts are now in Soft copy, anyways:
1. Anatomy - Soft Copy Keith Moore: You can read your first 70 pages from here and occasionally for reference - Hard copies of Vishram Singh Vol 1,2,3 -Slides
2. Histology - Soft Copy: Junquiera and Indebir Singh (They are better than eachother on certain topics)
3. Embryology - Soft Copy: Human Embryology by Indebir Singh (leave Saddler, I did not like that book)
4. Physiology - Soft Copy: Ganong, Guyton, BRS, - Hardcopy: Sembulingam - Slides
5. Biochemistry - Soft copy: Satyarayana, Chatterjhea (leave Leninger and Harper's and Lee's) - Slides
Your order of Priority should be to read slides first before textbook and videos, hold your videos well.
Practical Manuals are between you and the Preclinical lab people.
Know what you should know to pass, nobody cares about your stuff if you fail.
Follow those who have their ears to the ground make you no go dey read aimlessly.
Past questions very important, form your MB essay notes using the past questions.
Draw for them in Anatomy, write small put diagram, write small put diagram. Your diagram does not have to be pretty, the most important thing is for whoever will mark your work to know what they are looking at just by looking at your diagram and labelling.
Physiology also write plenty, put diagram, charts, graphs etc. You can't be writing on Hb-O2 dissociation curve and not included the diagram of the curve.
Biochemistry, write and draw their pathways
If attendance is ≥ 75% if you cannot make some classes have people who will sign on your behalf
At the back of your mind, you should always aim to make it through to the other side, nobody cares what you went through to get to the other side, just Pass.
Doctor wey get Distinction and Doctor wey no get, all nah Doctor.
Compete against yourself not others. Your journeys are very different.
In worse case scenarios, always make sure your test scores are not below the mean test score of the class.
You are on your way to bagging an MBBS/BDS be respectful, treat people well, don't be selectively nice, don't look down on the Anatomy and Physiology guys, be humble.
20 Children cannot play for 20 years how much more a large MBBS/BDS class, do and collect your degree and move on with your life. Write your MB, pass and be looking. Nothing should concern you with resit/repeats.
Do what it takes to pass and not your best because your best may not be enough.
May the odds always be in your favour.
Wishing you all the best Daniel. You are right about the textbooks. I was surprised that my daughter in Medicine has never asked me for money.to buy textbooks. I only bought her a laptop and maybe occasional money for practical manuals. She is starting 300lvl now. Do not know yet if that is when the buying of textbooks will start. 😁😁😁😁 |

I'm really surprised that even institutions are just implementing this now because the law is not new. That is the shocking thing. The WHT holiday expired since 2022. Wonder why FIRS is in a hurry to implement it now. A former colleague who is now a stock broker said that they took up the case with the FG Tax committee Chairman and he said that come January 2026 when the new tax laws comes into effect, WHT will not be applicable as there is no provision for it since the tax holiday has ended. So do not know if FIRS being aware of this wants to quickly collect it from existing investments before the new tax laws kick in. |

Sulele04: Hey doc, hope you are doing well ? This message of yours is over a decade ago but I wonder how relevant is some of the insights today.
The thing is my younger brother is a mbbs aspirant, he marginally fell short this year, with a Utme score of 342 & a Post utme score of 70 he was about 1 mark off Ui cutoff Mark.
He is going to go again next year, now we are deliberating targeting Unilag or Lasu then. I don't know how much you know about both schools but any valuable advice on which to pick will be appreciated.
my parents want him to target Lasu cause of higher chance of entry because he is a Lagos State indigene & no post utme conducted all he just has to do is focus on acing his Utme which I have zero doubts he will, but I want him to target Unilag because I feel the opportunities/platform there is superior particularly because of the trend of how their students are always matching in Usmle/plab pathway to Us/UK for foreign practice. Even post graduate studies too.
I am also aware of how much of a common practice it is to take electives in US, & how much of a culture it is there that people even match while still being students.
I don't know much about Lasucom but is the standard similar to comul in regards to this ? Or which of the two will you advice on pursuing ? Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks. I heard that LASU medicine is through high connection because there are various interests. Unilag admission process into Medicine is fairly straight forward. Unilag aggregate is calculated as UTME(50%) + O/LEVEL(20%) + PUTME(30%). So before JAMB, the aspirant can already know his/her O/Level calculation and then know what to aim for in JAMB and PUTME. Unilag cut-off this year for Medicine was high but being from Lagos is an added advantage for your brother because Lagos is under Unilag catchment. |

MistyDense: I don't know if anyone of you can relate to this. But to be truthful, I can't continue taking up these multiple responsibilities anymore.
I'm the oldest of four younger siblings, and we just have one Male among us, who is the Last born. I'm training him in sch, a tertiary institution. The other two girls are already done with their school and are presently learning some skills. None is contributing anything. I work from Mondays to Sundays without Rest. From house rent to feeding, to medics, transport, sch fees, light bills and others, I do all of them. I make sure I work to earn every penny I make. It is so bad that I don't have any savings. My clothes are worn out cos I can't afford new ones. Also, I can't afford my soap and cream any longer because there are more pressing issues to fix. The burden has become so much, coupled with stress from work. Sometimes I overthink things and breakdown. My mum isn't working due to her sight. She's completely Without sight. I had to hire someone to be taking care of her as we all go out for our daily activities. I'm thinking of asking my younger brother to drop out for now so that the burden can reduce for now, but I don't know how to tell him because I don't know how he would feel. He's already in 200L.. It will break him I know, but I'm trying to cut cost at least for a year first, before he can return back to sch. If this happens, I fear he may take his life, due to the passion he has for sch. He's a very bright student. The most academically sound person in my family.
A lot of pressure is on me. I don't want to do what other girls are doing. I don't want to start sleeping with men for money because I need to protect my dignity as a woman until I'm married. I've turned down a lot of suitors already because I don't want to drag them into my family's struggles and later they start insulting me for being a burden to them. I refused to marry for now because of this. Life isn't easy and hasn't being easy since the loss of our dad 10years ago.
Sometimes, I stay in my room and cry all through the night. I can't share my struggles with anyone for fear of being mocked and insulted behind my back. Sometimes I feel like running far away that nobody will be able to see me or even call my lines. I'm really messed up. At times, I feel like I should just vanish from the surface of the earth.
I'm just confused.

kinnad: Nice explanation bro. But what is the function of the 24%, I know it’s the rate at which you gave the money to government but it looks like it’s of no use to you the investor, am I wrong? The government calls it Yield. To you, the government gave you 19% because the interest given back to you was actually calculated on the 19% but in effect, the effective rate is 24% because the government 'discounted' the amount you gave them by giving you back your interest immediately. In Fixed Deposit, you do not have this. If you place 50m in a bank for one year at 19%, you will get 59.5m at the end of one year. No interest in given to you immediately. That N9.5m given to you immediately in TB, you can still go and invest it in MMF funds to get further interest of about 150k every month. If you decide to do the next TB action or secondary market TB, you also get another immediate interest from the N9.5m Contrast this with Bonds that does not give back immediate interest but gives interest every 6months. So if it was Bonds, you will get about N4.7m after six months. If the TB and Bonds were for one year, you get the same Principal amount of N50m after one year. |

nickae: If you check the mail, they didn't say immediately; 'All inflows received before noon on business days will be given value the same day, while inflows received after 12 noon will be given value the next business day.' The good thing is, it reflects on your investment amount, so no action is needed from you, unlike the other account where you have to invest it yourself. There is no difference. In the previous, any transfer made before 12noon gets value the same day while any transfer made after 12 noon gets value the next business day. I think the only advantage of this is that you do not necessarily need to input your E-Account. In addition, transfer can now be made from ATM or POS without having to send transfer receipt to Stanbic. |

Ivan18888888888: Thanks so much for the response and getting back to me. Pls Which banks offer the 19.4% rate? I’d like to spread the funds and not use just one bank. Also, can I reinvest the ₦9.5 million? I do not know. The rate is not static. It is a Bid and Offer issue. It is the CBN that determines the rate after every auction. A bank can fail and a bank can succeed. For example, if a bank bids 19.4% during a particular auction and the CBN releases a rate of 19.3%, the banks bid rate is above the CBN rate and the bank's bid will fail and its customers will not be allocated any TBs. The option left for the customers is to go for secondary market. You might or might not get a rate of that in the secondary market and you might not get a tenor of 364(a year). As for reinvestment of the N9.5m, it is not automatically done. You will have to buy a secondary market with the amount. Rates and tenors are not fixed in the secondary market. |

Ivan18888888888: This whole thing just dey confuse me o. I no go lie, I still no understand how dem dey calculate that 24% return. From wetin I dey see, e no dey add up unless I dey miss something serious.
Maybe person wey dey work directly with Treasury Bills fit come explain am better
Everything for this country just dey
zigzag Lesson 1I = PTR/(Year * 100) I = Interest P = Principal T = Tenor R = Interest Rate Year = Days in Year = 365 (366 if a leap year) In your post we have: P = 50m T = One Year(365) R = 19%. I = (50m * 365 * 19 ) / (365 * 100) I = 346,750,000,000/36,500 I = 9,500,000. So if you invest N50m at 19% for one year, you immediately get an interest of 9,500,000. This is called upfront interest. So you give the government, N50m and they give you back 9,500,000 immediately meaning the bank will debit you for N50m and credit you with 9,500,000. So if you check your account, you will see 9,500,000 there. This effectively means that you gave the government N40,500,000(N50m - N9,500,500) Now at what rate did you actually give this N40,500,000 to government?. This is what is called the True YieldLesson 2We need to now find the rate at which you gave the government N40,500,000. I = PTR/(Year * 100) (I * Year * 100) = PTR R = ( I * Year * 100) / PT R = (9,500,000 * 365 * 100) / (40,500,000 * 365) R = 346,750,000,000 / 14,782,500,000 R = 23.45679012345679 If you aproximate: R = 23.46 R = 23.5 R = 24. Ivan18888888888: Hello everyone, please I need help. I’m about to invest in treasury bills but I’m really confused.
I keep seeing 19% and 24% being mentioned here and there , and it’s not clear to me what the actual return is.
So here’s my question, based on the picture below:
If I invest 50m annually, Am I getting: ₦12 m, which would be 24% return? (Yes or No?)
Or ₦9.5m, which would be around 19% return? (Yes or No?)
Please, someone with clear understanding of this should help me out. I need a direct answer. Thank you! You will get N9.5m. The N9.5m will be given to you upfront. So effectively, you are giving the government N40,500,000 (N50m-N9.5m). At maturity, the government gives you N50m. So it is actually 24% on N40,500,000. |

Beautifulsoul97: What are the benefits of the asset backed loan united capital offers? I believe they can’t loan you more than your capital with them, what’s the interest on the loan? Will your money market investment keep getting the accrued interest while you are servicing your loan?
If I have a capital of say 10m with you and you approve a loan of 9m to me, is this really a loan? Why can’t i just use my money for the purpose i am taking the loan for, If the daily money market interest will keep dropping then i might consider it. Kindly explain, how do one profit from this loan ? Let us assume that you have a yearly rent of N1.8m which is N150k on monthly basis. If you take out a loan of N2m to pay the yearly rent, the interest on your N10m can come to N160k every month. You use N150k from the N160k to service the loan and use the remaining N10k to drink pepper soup. This idea of always wanting to pay cash for every thing is why we find it difficult to get basic things in Nigeria. Cash for rent, cash for phone, cash for a car etc whereas abroad, once you are working, you can get basic things by using a loan and pay over time. Once you use the cash you have to pay, it creates a big hole in your account and you then have to begin to save again. You can use cash and then suddenly something comes up that you need to solve and there is no more cash for it. |

Also is bond a risk free like Treasury bills Money Market Fund(MMF) is better. She can opt for monthly payment of interest to her account. That will serve as a monthly pension. If she opt for Treasury Bills, she gets the interest upfront and she might be tempted to spend all within a short time. Once she spends the upfront interest and now need urgent money, she will now have to break it and pay penalty for early termination. |

Banking and asset management are two different thing irrespective of the fact that both are in the same holding company.
Going to the banking hall doesn't an advantage over those who decide to open account with the link.
The best is to deal with the asset management arm directly and that you can do by filling the online form. When you use the online form, your account opens within 24hrs on a working day.
