The court yesterday referred the case for possible settlement by the alternative dispute resolution (ADR) section of the court during Settlement Week and I strongly advise that David (and Sophia) engage truly with the process as opposed to making harmful and irreversible statements on social media which not only violate the law but the interest of their child. I have in the past 9 years tried my best to ensure amicable resolution of disputes and encouraged both parents to have a proper structure put in place for the welfare of their daughter. It is important to note that Sophia did not instigate this court action and is only seeking to protect their daughter and ensure that there is a structured, safe and sustainable manner in which father and child can engage with each other.
The vitriolic rhetoric in the media should be avoided by all means as this only further inflames what is already a traumatic experience for all parties involved, especially the child in question. - DELE MOMODU
Davido and his first baby mama have been battling over the joint custody of their child, Aurora Imade Adeleke.

MY CANDID OPINION ON DAVID ADELEKE vs SOPHIA MOMODU
By DELE MOMODU
Last night, I received a distressing message from Mr David Adeleke (aka Davido). He was obviously devastated by the counter-affidavit submitted in court, earlier in the day, in response to his affidavit seeking a joint custody of his daughter with my niece Sophia Momodu.
I had seen David's affidavit about two weeks ago and I was very surprised as David and I had spoken on a video call days earlier, with him and Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, and he never told me he had any custody issues with my niece. So you can imagine my confusion to find out via social media and subsequently confirmed by my niece that he had filed an action in court seeking joint custody of their daughter.
During the referenced video call, we were all very excited about his forthcoming wedding ceremony, an event our family congratulated him about. Prior to this, David had told me he eventually spoke to their daughter, after a long lull of about two years.
He was very happy and excited. So I thought everything was settled and he and Sophia would now have the opportunity of taking maximum care of their daughter. I had offered special thanks to David's Dad, Dr Adedeji Adeleke, for his kindness and support for our daughter during the period of David's absence.
I had also taken Sophia and their daughter to my very dear friend, Governor Ademola Adeleke, seeking his intervention. To the best of my knowledge, there was never a problem of joint custody. The issues were: non-payment of school fees for several sessions; non-payment of accommodation and salaries of a nanny. There was no car dedicated to David's daughter. And so on. Mercifully, I mentioned all to Dr Adedeji Adeleke and he responded positively, like a true grandfather. On the issue of non-payment of school fees, David's Dad cleared everything and also set up payments of future bills. He gave his grand daughter a car to take her to school. The remaining issue was on accommodation.
David's Dad verbally offered, in his discussions with me, one of their family apartments in Oniru Estate, Victoria Island, however, maybe due to miscommunication, David’s lawyers had communicated otherwise. After Sophia clarified from me, she politely declined the offer, and her reason was tenable in my view, because, since she's not married to David, she can't be comfortable living in a place swarming with David's family members.
She and her daughter had been living in Ikoyi before David and Sophia started their latest quarrels. Sophia's request was that David should pay half of the accommodation while she would pay the other half. David said he could only contribute N5million annually.
My opinion is that the absence of camaraderie between David and Sophia has caused this debacle. I have cautioned repeatedly that their daughter must not be allowed to suffer or be treated like a second class child. David's global status makes this imperative.
Sophia allowed David access to their daughter provided she has her nanny around 24/7. The 9-year old herself made this request and I believe this should be favorably considered and accepted. My grand niece had been released to go out with her cousins on several occasions.
The Governor’s daughter, Nike, was at Sophia’s house with the Governor’s grandson last Christmas Day, despite the fact that there wasn’t ample notice & she still granted access.
Two months ago, the Governor’s son, Sina Rambo, requested a play date between the kids & Sophia rented out a children’s place in Victoria Island for them to spend hours together. The only time she couldn't join her father’s family was when her grandfather requested to go on vacation with her for three weeks last year, as the notice was too short, and Sophia had already paid for their own trips, due to lack of communication between the parents...
'We Waited for Hours and No Bus Came’ — Lagos Residents Describe Flooding
Many Lagos residents have complained about flooding that took over the city overnight, complicating road traffic and preventing commuters from finding buses on Wednesday.
Sharon Adenikan, a storekeeper working in Ikeja, told FIJ that she braved the rain for about two hours without an umbrella before she found a bus to convey her to work.
FIJ met Adenikan in a queue at Egbeda Busstop, where she was awaiting a bus en route to Ikeja under the downpour.
“I regret coming outside today, even though I did it because I had to go to work. We have waited in this queue for over one hour now, and it is not my turn yet,” Adenikan lamented.
“My boss is still expecting me but I am already very late for work. I have told him that there are no buses because of the rain.”
The queue had over 40 people in it. FIJ waited with Adenikan for another 50 minutes before she reached the head of the queue and got on the next bus.
Another commuter in the same queue told FIJ that he did not think the rain had caused such mayhem until he got close to Egbeda.
“The road was terribly flooded for the rain I thought was moderate,” he said.
There were varying levels of flooding around the Egbeda area of Lagos. FIJ observed that some cars approaching Egbeda from Isheri had to maintain only one lane because the entire road was flooded.
Floodwater submerged the road so much that it concealed the gutter and pedestrian walkway.
Another Lagos resident shared a clip of flooding which forced traffic to just one side of their road.
In 2009, my sister Annabel Uzu, married Christopher Onyemali, a lawyer based in Asaba. Within a month of their wedding, he started beating her. Over the years, the beatings became more violent with each case resolved internally due to our conservative background.
Today, my sister placed a video call on our family's WhatsApp Group, and she was bleeding profusely and crying. Her husband had hit her head with a pestle in front of their daughter (one of 5 kids).
To say that I am livid is putting it mildly. My other siblings and I are currently outside Nigeria and my parents, who are around, are too old to handle this. Please, Nigerian youths I need your help to bring this man to justice.
Please if you have any contact in the Ministry of Woman Affairs that can help or with the Nigerian Police, please help!

A former National Vice Chairman, North-west of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Lukman, has berated Northern politicians in the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.
Lukman, who recently resigned from APC, said politicians from the north have been reduced to members of a “choir group poorly singing ‘on your mandate we stand’ irrespective of the shaky and staggering reality being demonstrated by the mandate holder.”
He said the opportunity for Northern political leaders to redeem themselves and return the North back to rational order with committed leaders capable of responding to the challenges of the region was blown away during the tenure of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a statement he personally signed, titled, ‘Explosive North: Open Letter to Northern Politicians’, he said political leaders in the country must be cautioned that things were about to get out of hand any moment from now especially in the North and if care is not taken, hungry people who are everywhere in the region will start breaking into homes and looting properties of innocent citizens.
The statement said: “So far, one year has pass into President Asiwaju Tinubu administration. No doubt, Northern political leaders are becoming weaker and more disorganised. Even the Vice President, Sen. Kashim Shettima GCON, who is the highest office holder and by virtue of that should have served as the needed rallying point for Northern politicians, is anything but a political leader.
“With every respect, hardly any official of the current administration of President Asiwaju Tinubu from the North, including Sen. Shettima, is willing and able to take the needed risk to defend the interest of the North. Painfully, what is emerging is that most leaders from the North are more concern about self-preservation in the government.
“Because of self-preservation, already scheming for 2027 has commenced. Within the Presidency there are indicative cold war dynamics and positioning, which is alleged to be responsible for the praise-singing disposition of Vice President Shettima. The National Security Adviser (NSA), Mal. Nuhu Ribadu has devalued an exalted office almost to the status of a Protocol Office to President Asiwaju Tinubu.
“Virtually all other Northern politicians holding offices in this government, including the Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume are absentee public servants who have been reduced to members of a choir group poorly singing ‘on your mandate we stand’ irrespective of the shaky and staggering reality being demonstrated by the mandate holder with reference to poor service delivery and crashing living conditions in the last one year.”

Nigeria Spent Over N1Billion To Purchase Dollars For Tinubu’s Trip To Ethiopia, N650Million On Honorarium In 21 Days
An investigation by SaharaReporters, utilising the public payments portal, reveals that President Bola Tinubu's trip to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the African Union summit came with a hefty price tag of N1.041 billion, sparking concerns over excessive spending on international travel.
The trip was made in February 2024.
Records show that on February 9, 2024, $692,265 was purchased with over N1.041 billion “for Mr President’s trip to Ethiopia".
This development comes amid calls for a reduction in the cost of governance.
In a related development, between February 24 and March 15, 2024, the Presidency recorded N650 million for “presidential honorarium and transportation”.
This means that in 21 days, the Presidential honorarium cost the country N650 million.
An honorarium is a payment made as a gesture of appreciation for services rendered, where no fee is legally or customarily expected. It's a voluntary expression of gratitude, rather than a mandatory compensation.
In January 2024, it was reported that the President cut his travel delegations by 60 percent to reduce the cost of governance, so it remains unclear how much the country would have incurred for the Ethiopian trip assuming that the delegation had not been reduced by 40 percent.
SaharaReporters earlier noted how the administration of Tinubu spent N473 million on the First Lady Oluremi Tinubu’s to Mozambique, United Kingdom and Ethiopia.
The country's low revenue generation has sparked widespread concern and scrutiny, with many calling for improved fiscal management and strategies to boost economic growth.
The organised labour recently demanded an increase in the minimum wage, a development that has continued to trigger disagreements in the country with the government saying it is unable to pay due to paucity of funds.
SaharaReporters has exposed the Tinubu administration's non-compliance with legal requirements by failing to publish quarterly budget performance reports, thereby denying citizens the right to access crucial information on government expenditures and undermining transparency and accountability in public financial management.
