SportsI Paid 50 Naira To Watch Aguero On TV- Kelechi Iheanacho by Nnaeb(op): 2:19pm On Jan 20, 2017
I can only imagine

The forward has revealed how he saved up a token to watch the Argentine score the title-winning goal for the Citizens in 2012
Nigeria international, Kelechi Iheanacho has disclosed that he had to save up 50 naira to watch Sergio Aguero scored the title winning goal for Manchester City in the 2012/13 Premier League season.

The 20-year-old forward, who joined the Citizens two seasons ago, said that was the club’s first match he would watch, adding that he never knew he would play alongside the same set of players he watched on the television.

"There was one place in town that everybody called the 'game center,' and it had a satellite dish, but you had to pay money to go inside," Iheanacho told Theplayerstribune.

"It was 50 naira [about 15p] for a Premier League match, and I did not have that kind of money. So I would wait outside playing football with my mates until somebody came out and told us what had happened in the match.

"In 2012, when I was 15, I saved some money and went to the game center on the last day of the Premier League season. It was a very big deal, because the title race was so close.

"I sat there and watched Sergio Aguero score the last-minute goal that won Man City the title -- and that took it away from Man United. On the TV, Sergio took his shirt off and whipped it around, and everybody in the game center was going crazy."

"That was maybe the first Man City game I ever watched. I had never been to England before. I had no idea that in a few years, I would be playing on the same team as Sergio," he continued.

"Because I was only 19, I did not expect to be in the starting XI," he added. "When the manager told me that I was going to start, I tried to tell myself, 'it's just a game of football,' but if I am telling the truth, it is not a normal game.

"The atmosphere and intensity gives you a very different feeling as soon as you step on the pitch. It's war for 90 minutes in the Manchester Derby. You cannot give anything less than 100 percent concentration. So I just tried to focus completely on the match.

"I was so happy, but then in the 36th minute, something really amazing happened. I was standing in front of the United goal when Kevin [De Bruyne's] shot struck the post. The ball came right to my feet. I kicked it into the back of the net without thinking. I looked over to the linesman, not believing that I had really scored. The flag was down. I was onside.

"My teammates ran over to me, and I felt what I can only describe as the 'Manchester Derby feeling.' No one can know how I felt unless they've scored in the derby. I did not even celebrate. The feeling was too much."

BusinessBe The Best You Can Be (the Amstel Formula) - Brown Uzoukwu by Nnaeb(op): 7:46am On Jan 03, 2016
Warning please!
This is not a motivational piece. This is a realistic article. What you are about to read is bound to make a significant change in your life like you have never imagined. Therefore, reader’s discretion is advised.
My mentor once told me “Brown, do not just do the best you were asked to do, rather, always do the best you can. If you sincerely do the best you can, most times, the best you can comes out better than the best you were asked to do.” It’s so true. We all have what it takes in us.
In same vain, I will like to start this piece by saying to you; do not be the best that is required of you, rather be the best you can be. Perhaps, there is the best required of you by your family or by your employer. It is not enough. Circumstances and association must have placed a bench mark to the best you can become. That is not best enough. Strive to be the best you can be regardless of what is at stake.
I am not yet the best I can be in my career but I am right on course and I will like to share a formula that is the common denominator of all great achievers and high flyers in our world today. Greatness don’t just happen to people. You don’t just sleep-walk into stardom or limelight. There is a price to pay to become the best you can be. What do you want? You want to be super rich? You want to be a shining star? You want to get to the pinnacle of your career? You want to build an exceptional brand? You want to make global or continental impact? Then checkout the reality that you cannot circumvent.

Aspiration: everything about what we become rises and falls on desire. Aspiration is a strong desire for something. How bad do you want it? I said in my last article that life answers to the speed of our passion. The worst place to be as a person is to be limited in reality and also be limited in your desires. Dreaming is free, yet not everybody can afford it. We live in a generous universe and there is no limit to what you can aspire to become, achieve or produce. For you to become the best you can be, it must be borne out of a strong and passionate desire to be the best. If you cannot see it in your imagination, forget it.

Mentoring: do you need a mentor? Yes. There are people that has gone ahead of you in what you are striving to become. They have covered some milestones and are still moving. Humbly request to be mentored. Please, your role model must not be your mentor. Your mentor must be somebody you can access and someone that can make out time for you. So before you say that Tony Elumelu or Tara Durotoye is your mentor, be really sure that they are. Also, a mentor is not somebody you run to for financial bailout when you encounter challenges in your journey to greatness. If there is one person you shouldn’t ask for money, it’s your mentor. Most people are very skeptical about mentoring anybody again because of this “help me financially” mindset of mentees.

Supernatural: *clears throat*, I don’t want to talk about this, but since you asked for it, we can as well talk about it. This is the rallying point of all the other tools you need to attain greatness. The spirit controls the physical. Every great achiever is alive in the spiritual realm because man is a spiritual being. There is a certain level of greatness you can never attain if you are not powerful spiritually. Every great man or woman you know in any field of life producing exceptional results commands a great deal of spiritual influence, Godly or Satanic. For instance, if you desire wealth, then you should seek spiritual power first. Deuteronomy 8: 18 “but thou shall remember the lord thy God, for it is he that giveth the POWER to make wealth”. Wealth is not for mere men. Greatness is not for ‘children’. To become the best you can be, you must align yourself to a supernatural source, Godly or satanic. You can’t be sitting on the fence and expect to excel beyond measure. You must decide today to align yourself to the supernatural Godly or satanic. If you permit me, I will recommend the former. I rest my case.

Training: we all have great potentials, but potential is not enough. Potential is everything you can be that you are not. It is everything you have the ability to do that you are not doing. Potentials don’t pay bills. It does not produce result. What produces result is skill. Nobody is willing to pay for your potential. It is unquantifiable. You can’t put a price tag to it. If you must be the best you can be, then you must strive to convert your potential energy to kinetic energy. Translate your potentials to skill. When you see a man diligent in his work, He does not stand before mere men but before kings. This can only be achieved by constant training and capacity building. One training a day, keeps mediocrity away.

Energy: in order to become the best you can be, you need energy. Energy is defined elementarily as the ability to do work, which means without the right energy, work cannot be done. So, our ability to manage our energy effectively determines how far we can be able to go. There are two forms of energy that must work in agreement for us to excel beyond measures. Internal Energy (Energy Within) and External Energy (Energy Without). Internal Energy refers to our Health, Strength, Agility and Mental Alertness. Health is wealth remember. If you have issues with your internal energy you will find it difficult to produce at optimum capacity. So, make sure you eat healthy, drink healthy, exercise regularly to keep fit and find time to recreate. However, our internal energy must work in agreement with our external energy or something I call Atmospheric Energy. You must create an atmosphere of success around you. Get rid of negative energy around you. It has a way of choking your internal energy to death. Surround yourself with positive people. Listen to the right things and also choose what you watch on the screens. When you create the right energy around you that is conducive for work to be done, your internal energy will find full expression.

Loyalty: No man is self-made. We all need a helping hand, so in your quest to becoming the best you can be, you must learn how to service relationships. According to an Igbo adage, “when someone is loyal to the King, the crown will one day beckon on you”. Some folks actually believe that out-shining their direct boss will get them recommended for promotion in their workplace. On the contrary, it will only set you up for troubles. You don’t want that. If you desire to get to the pinnacle of your career by climbing the corporate ladder then you must arm yourself with the weapon of loyalty. You must be loyal to the system and to the course. You must be loyal to your boss. People should feel safe to entrust responsibilities to you. You must also understand that Superior relationships (what we call ‘Connection’) is built and serviced by loyalty. If you must ride on it and get to your best, then you must play by the loyalty rules. Finally, for entrepreneurs and business persons that desires to build exceptional global brands, customer loyalty must be at the heart of your core business processes.
I am definitely struggling not to exceed my word limit, but I hope we have a grasp of my simple and easy to remember formula. There is no limit to what you can become, if you adapt this formula. Be the best you can be and see you at the top.

Career6 Tips For Nurturing Superior Relationships- Brown Uzoukwu by Nnaeb(op): 7:22am On Dec 26, 2015
Still in the spirit of the yuletide, I promised to share this tips in my last article here. For those of us that are already expanding our network and creating new strategic and superior relationships, we will find this tips handy in nurturing that relationship. For the purpose of this article, we refer to the other party in the relationship as the ‘contact’, it best describes the role of this party in your life. So finally you now had the rare privilege of interacting with Femi Otedola, Tony Elumelu, Okonjo Iweala, Remi Tinubu, Paul Adefarasin, Ernest Ndukwe, a state Governor or your General Overseer etc. and a relationship was established, how do you nurture and manage such a relationship to get the best out of it? This is very important for career persons and entrepreneurs.

Calls/SMS Etiquette
Now, this is very important in nurturing your new relationship. You must find out from your contact what time is appropriate for him to receive calls. You don’t just call people anytime you so wish because they gave you their number. Even when there is no formal understanding between both of you as regards calling hours, it is safe to narrow your calls between the hours of 8.am to 6.pm.

Secondly, in a situation where you call your contact and he did not answer, don’t keep calling the person’s phone like he or she is under any obligation to answer you when you want it – even when they were the ones that asked you to call. Some people can be so annoying. They can give you ‘6 missed calls’ in a space of 2 minutes. Please, your contact is not 911. I suggest, when you call your contact and he did not pick up, give yourself one hour before dialing him again. If he fails to pick up again the second time, drop a message through voice mail or SMS and that should be it for the day. Yes, I know he promised you a job, a business or a contract, don’t choke him with your calls. You can put him off by doing that.

Also, make sure you are in a quiet environment whenever you want to call him, and also confirm you have a commensurate amount of airtime for what you want to say. I bet you, you don’t want that MTN Lady telling you, “You have one minute remaining” when your contact eventually picks up. You never can tell, when he will be disposed again to answer your call.

Finally, you don’t know how detailed and meticulous your contact is and I bet you don’t want to find out the wrong way. So avoid all those abbreviations you use with your friends when sending him or her an SMS.

Reciprocate Every Kind Gesture or Gift
Please, for every gift you receive from your contact, try as much as you can to reciprocate. Don’t allow him to out give you. I don’t mean competing with him in the quality of gifts but make sure you are at par with him numerically. There are many people that collect gifts from him, but this singular attitude of yours will open more doors for you in his space. Get him a gift on his birthday, wedding anniversary, father’s day and a ‘thank you gift’ whenever he gives you anything. It is not the size or quality of the gift that does the magic, it is your attitude of always thinking of giving back.

Do Not Beg for Money
Please, in your relationship with your contact, you can ask for any kind of assistance but financial assistance. Ask for help with brokering a meeting with a prospect, ask for paper work assistance but don’t beg for money. No matter the financial challenges you are going through, do not allow your friends or your family to talk you into calling your contact and begging him for money. However, I understand that there are critical situations where you must have exhausted all other possible options. In such a situation, you may ask for financial bailout, but you be sure of the quality of the relationship you have built with him before doing so; otherwise, you will be jeopardizing the future of the young relationship you are still trying to nurture. I try to be strict with this rule because some people can’t just use their heads. In the face of any little financial challenge, you hear people around you say things like “you have a relationship with Otedola now, call him” or “ I thought you hang out with Paddy Adenuga, beg him”. If you must make the most of this relationship, do not heed to that voice. You don’t want your contact to start treating you like a charity case. There are so many people on that queue already.

Don’t Feel at Home
I suppose we are familiar with that line “feel at home”. Please, if you don’t really understand what the person means by ‘feel at home’, please don’t feel at home. If your relationship with your contact has grown to a point where you are invited over for breakfast, lunch or dinner or you have even gotten so close that you are requested to sleep over, please don’t feel at home. I have my reasons.

Some people assume that when your host says you should feel at home, it means you should carry your attitude from your home and dump it in his home. That is why, some people make the mistake of lying down and sleeping on the couch in their host’s sitting room or placing their feet on the center table because they are told to feel at home. On the contrary, feel at home means, observe my household and how we behave, feel free to integrate.

Also, try as much as you can not to get too familiar with your contact, especially those of us that seek a personal relationship with the senior pastors of our churches.

Be Productive
Every sustainable relationship is symbiotic in nature. No matter how superior the other party is, make sure you have something to offer. You are valued in this relationship based on what you contribute and not what you consume. You can offer to help in research, social media PR, image management, Speech development, itinerary management, entertainment, strategic business suggestions, and what have you. You don’t expect to get paid for any of these services because you are supposed to know that someone of your contact’s status already has people employed to handle such services. Find a way and show you can contribute positively whenever the opportunity shows up.

Loyalty Rules
Finally, of everything you can offer to your contact, offer your loyalty. Most times, that is all they demand from you. Loyalty is already a scarce commodity in today’s market and rich and influential people are always particular about your level of loyalty. Your contact must trust you enough first before he can let you into his space. Be humble, honest, obedient, loyal and prompt.

Also you must understand that people have weaknesses they are battling with even the general overseer of your church. You know, from a distance, we perceive these people as being invincible and impeccable, but when they bring you closer to their space, your perception about them might start changing. However, loyalty rules demand that you don’t discuss your contact’s weakness, struggles and moral Achilles with anybody. If you hang out with them, the rule is simple “see no evil, hear no evil, say no evil”. Please don’t get scared. It’s not like they are evil or you are joining a secret cult. Not at all. All I am saying is that, minding your business and understanding that your contact is first, a human being with flesh and blood before becoming anything you think he is, will do you a lot of good.

Merry Xmas!

Merry Xmas!

Jobs/VacanciesMy Yuletide Message To Job Seekers by Nnaeb(op):
Christmas is here again. I can literally smell the buzz and the fun in the air. Christmas in Nigeria is usually characterized by a mass exodus of people from different locations to their home towns. I always look forward to the big family reunion. As a matter of fact, I always believed as a young person that the longest night every year is the eve to the day my whole family is supposed to travel to the village for the xmas celebration. I could hardly get some sleep that night.

I remember this particular day. It is dawn at last. My siblings and I are fully kitted up for the journey even before 5am. But no. Dad and Mum are not ready yet. Why on earth will my mum choose today of all day to do the last batch of the Christmas shopping? Up till today I have not gotten an answer to that question. I already woke up with no appetite for food. The only thing that mattered to me is hitting the road to my village. Can we just get it rolling? But no. my mum is not yet back from her last minute shopping. The time is now 2pm and you can practically be deafened by the sound of the heartbeat of me and my siblings just observing my Dad’s body language and hoping anxiously for my mum to get back home before it’s too late and for my Dad, 3pm is already too late for any kind of journey.

Finally mum is back. Our excitement knows no bound, but it was short-lived. It was really brief because the moment mum came back home, she goes into a close door session with the husband and after a heart to heart talk, they emerges from the bedroom with the bomb shell; “Children! We can no longer travel today. It’s now tomorrow”. Gush! You know the rest of the story. If you had walked into our house that moment, one would think we were bereaved. .

However, this piece is not about me and my family, but about the travails of the Nigerian job seeker during this season. One thing is certain, as the yuletide comes with excitement to many, it also sets some people up in a depression mode. Honestly, this is not a very good time to be broke.

For a particular job seeker, the yuletide arrived so fast. The memories of the 2014 yuletide is still very fresh in your mind like it was yesterday. You can still remember how you piped low and operated on a low key throughout the festivity. You still remember the words of encouragements and empty promises from extended relatives that gave you hope for 2015 and here you are, 2015 yuletide, still without a job. You are wondering, what’s the excitement all about?

I can also imagine the fresh graduate. You just passed out of NYSC, you still have some little ‘change’ to play around with. You are super excited about the prospect of rocking the villa for the first time as a ‘Graduate’. You are also motivated by the fact that you will be meeting with that uncle of yours that never sent you money while you were an undergraduate but promised you heaven on earth as soon as you graduate. You are familiar with the line “you don’t have to worry about anything at all. Just study hard. The moment you graduate I will get you a job. I know the MD of XYZ company, the HR of XYZ oil and gas, the Perm sec of XYZ parastatal. Talking to them is not a big deal, just get done with your studies”. Na today?

For another job seeker, it is that time of the year you have waited for impatiently. Finally you can now travel to the village and attend the town hall meeting with that Senator representing your senatorial district or that Rep member representing your constituency. It’s an opportunity for the unemployed youths of the community to meet and interact with them and ultimately drop their CVs with the hope of getting a job as promised during the campaign. One chance!

What is the way forward from here? I have always taught and will continue to teach that strong network is an indispensable tool every job seeker must strive to build. So many jobs are gotten based on referrals or what we call ‘connection’ in Naija and the yuletide affords you that opportunity of networking and you can take advantage of that to enhance your chances of ending your job search next year or making a career switch. However, you need to understand how to attract and manage superior relationships this season to enable you build sustainable ‘connections’ that you will ride on in 2016.

This is a little idea I want to share with us. As you celebrate the xmas, don’t depend on your uncle or a simple town hall meeting with a politician to do the magic for you. You must stand up and assume responsibility. You must do this for yourself because as much as people care, nobody needs that job like you do. As you travel for xmas to continue job hunting, I want you to put the following into consideration.
Get a gift for any Politician, Corporate Executive or Business mogul you desire to meet with in your town. That is the way to their heart. You see, this guys are used to people coming around to collect and collect from them in this season. So, you will be making a bold statement by coming with a gift for them. It is written in the bible “A man’s GIFT maketh a way for him.” Yes. Initially, I will be like, what can I possibly get for them that they don’t have? The idea is not to buy them what they don’t have or can’t afford. No. The idea is to make an impression, that will enable them give you serious attention. I can suggest a good wine, an art work, or a portrait. a bottle of cashew nuts can even do the magic. Trust me. You can’t imagine what this singular act will get you in return. Please don’t visit them with your CV. It was supposed to be a solidarity visit. The question of what you do for a living will surely arise, then you can subtly make your case.
One question you should be ever ready to answer is “what can you do?” Most job seekers don’t have an answer to this question and that is why they are finding it a bit difficult to get a job. What can you do is a different question from what did you study. Before you even embark on this my little mission, ensure that you have any requisite skill that can help a business produce. Make sure you are thinking along the line of contribution and not just an avenue to keep body and soul together. Usurp that moment to sell yourself to your host and secure an appointment. However, bear it in mind that the essence of this mission is to establish a relationship and not necessarily to get a job offer.

Finally to manage this relationship and ride on it to achieve expected results, you must understand Gratitude, Patience and Loyalty. You must learn to be Time conscious and finally, guard yourself with etiquettes that guides superior relationships. For instance, if your host gave you his number and demand that you call him at a stipulated time and you did but he didn’t pick up, that won’t justify you giving him ‘3 missed calls’. Don’t inundate people with calls or else you will be jeopardizing the relationship. Enough said. I promise to share more extensively on how to manage superior relationships on this platform at a later date. Meanwhile, get a gift for someone today and make the most of the season. Remember, a man’s gift makes a way for him.
Merry Xmas!

Jobs/VacanciesHow I Earned 70,000k Per Month As A Private Home Tutor by Nnaeb(op): 6:17am On Sep 09, 2015
Pending when you secure your dream job, there are several means of income you can create for yourself and private home coaching is the best among them. My opinion though.

I want to share my experience with us on how I was earning about 70,000k per month as a freelance executive home tutor. It was that lucrative and flexible. As a matter of fact, my guy that introduced me to home coaching for young pupil is making a whole lot of money from that and has built a strong structure around it. Something he started as fresh graduate of mathematics, leveraging on the contact he has built as a mathematics teacher in one of the premium primary schools in our hood.

This is the model I ran.

Target Market: primary school pupil from Grade 3 – Grade 6

Target Clients: Rich parents (my clients has to be rich to afford my services. If you live in a neighborhood where parents can’t afford your services, take your operations outside your neighborhood).

Target Number Of Clients: six (6) clients (you can comfortably handle four clients alone, then outsource the other two)

Service Charge: 15,000/month/client (Although some clients will want you to come down to 10,000k, but 12,000k was my bench mark).

Duration: four (4) hours/ week (Each of my student was entitled to four hours per week. So I had to break it down to 2 hours per day and we must meet two times in a week. So I have four days of the week to teach four of my clients respectively. Then I complete client A class on Friday, while my Saturday is reserved for Client B, C and D.

Outsourced Clients: if you are good in what you do, your clients will recommend you to their friends. But, truth be told, you can’t handle more than four clients alone comfortably. So when I get extra clients, I give them out to young, intelligent undergraduates who needs extra income. I pay them 10,000k and keep 5,000k and everybody is happy.

Marketing: Forget about pasting posters, or creating hand bills. The rich won’t call you if they don’t know you personally. They are very skeptical of who they allow into their homes, let alone entrusting their wards to you. So a job in a good primary school will help you. However, I did not have a job in any primary school, but my church has a massive pool of my target market. I was a committed church worker, so my face was familiar.

Income: 70,000k/ month and counting.

Jobs/VacanciesHow To Do Marketing Without Stress- Part 2 by Nnaeb(op): 6:06am On Sep 08, 2015
sequel to: https://www.nairaland.com/2581370/see-how-marketing-without-stress

Change Your Association

Marketing is all about building relationships. Successful marketers have great networks. If you must make it as a sales person, then we must break out of our comfort zone and create new relationships. Most of us don’t even have a market for our product in our neighborhood, church, mosque or even within your circle of influence. For Christians, you need to change your church to the one that provides you with the platform for healthy networking and growth. You can join social clubs. You may start hanging out more to meet your market. They can be found in clubs, bars, lounges, or a sports club. People you could have hard difficult time meeting with are very accessible in any of those places.

Sell Benefits Alone

Most sales persons are too in a hurry to discuss terms with their prospective buyer. That is wrong. Do not rush into talking about cost even when the prospect is pushing you to. Some folks won’t even listen to understand what you are selling, they are just interested in knowing how much does it cost. Don’t play into such people’s arm. Make sure you run and dictate the show. Before you discuss the cost of your product or service make sure you have sold it to a point where your prospect believes he/she needs it. If your prospect has not seen a need for it yet, don’t bother discussing price. Just focus on the benefits.

Packaging

Image is everything. Do I need to remind you that people buy into you, before they buy your product? Don’t appear shabbily before a prospect. It robs you of your confidence. Imagine when you secure an appointment with the MD of an organization to sell something that will help him or the organization and the least person in that organization is dressed well than you are. Then you are the person that needs help. Look like you own what you sell. Don’t appear stressed out. Don’t project an image of someone under pressure to meet up with target.

Laws of Attraction

Yes it works. Most people do not believe in the principles of attracting whatever they desire. When you have a mental picture of fear, struggle, rejection, lack and failure then you are actually empowering those things to happen to you. This law is simple but also ignored. Think about what you want and forget about what you don’t want. Even when you pray, pray and thank God about what you desire and forget about praying against what you don’t want. That is why, anybody that is always in the habit of thinking and binding demos will always have more and more and more demons to bind. The more you think about them, the more you attract them.

As a sales dude, don’t just create a mental picture of how much sales you want to make, or how much you want to earn in a year or a month, go a step further by getting them out in print and place it where you will always see it. Before you meet a prospect, build up positive energy that you will get a good deal and most times you will. When someone rejects you, don’t dwell on it. Move on. There are over a hundred persons willing to accept you.

This area is broad but let me stop here. Do have a great day.

CareerSee How You Can Do Marketing Without Stress I by Nnaeb(op): 5:54am On Sep 07, 2015
Sell what you love

Make sure you love what you are getting on board to sell. If you take up a marketing job just to keep busy while looking for a better job, u will end up wasting your time. Passion is a key word in marketing and you can’t have passion for what you don’t love. Personally, I don’t love insurance, so I will have a difficult time selling it. But some dudes are also making it big time in insurance because they love it and it is paying off. There are so many products and services to be sold. Look for the one you love and give it your best shot.

Product knowledge

A broad knowledge of your product is vital to effective selling. Research about the product, find out the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) concerning your product. This will help you master the product at your fingertips. Also, take it a step further by carrying out a research on competing products and services. You must know the advantage they have over yours and the advantage your product has over theirs. That way when you meet with a prospective client, you put your best foot forward by emphasizing on your advantage (USP).

Define your market

Nigeria is the largest market in Africa and one of the largest in the world. However, it is not everything that will sell in Nigeria. Before you get on board to sell any product, do a personal study of the market and figure out if there is a need for it. Define the market segment and also see how readily available the market is. Is it a product for the Elite class, or low income persons, men or women, kids, youths or adults? Define your market. That something is selling in Lagos does not mean it will sell in Enugu.

Draw up a list of prospective buyers

Marketing is a field job, yes I concur. But don’t be in a hurry to hit the field without a clear direction and plan. Stay at home or in the office and draw up a list of your prospective buyers. The prospects on the list should be up to 100 at least. Also, include at five high profile prospective clients. Those ones that will give you a major breakthrough if you succeed in selling to one of them. Source for the contacts and phone numbers of the prospects either through google map, v connect, their website or ask for it.

Develop a sales script

Develop a powerful sales script that will guide your discussion with a prospect. The sales script must cover greeting, personal introduction, product introduction, request for a meeting, and some other things. Some sales consultants can help you develop one if you can’t do it yourself. But it is something you can do.

Call and arrange a meeting

I have said before that marketing is not all about getting yourself engrossed in activity and dissipating energy. That is why some persons complain about the stress. It’s funny how people just dress up from their homes and start wondering the streets of Lagos aimlessly in the name of marketing. That is not professional. Sit down and call ten prospects in a day to arrange for a meeting. Out of the ten, three persons will grant you an appointment. That way, you can plan your movement and schedules effectively. This will help you conserve energy and cut down on aimless transportation cost.

Let’s stop here at the moment. I will complete this article tomorrow. Let me not bore you with long stories cos I really want us to understand everything.

Have a great day

CareerRevealed: 10 Secrets To Making It In A Marketing Job by Nnaeb(op): 9:42am On Sep 05, 2015
N: B: Before I commence with the topic mentioned above, let me just clear the grounds on the issue of marketing and selling being used interchangeably. Selling is quite different from marketing, which means that marketers are not necessarily sales reps.
Most sales persons see themselves as marketers and it is not basically their faults because recruiting agencies and some organizations help to further perpetrate the misconception by calling them marketers when they are actually sales persons. That is why I also refer to sales persons as marketers in my article so I can be able to connect with my audience. But the truth is that marketing and selling are not the same, although selling is an integral part of marketing. However, for the purpose of my audience, permit me to use marketing in place of selling cos that is the language we all understand in our labour market.
Now, I promised to share unconventional marketing rules that will help job seekers, understand how to sell, make money and enjoy selling (marketing). Let’s roll!

Sell what you love

CareerTHE MVP: 4 Career Lessons From Lionel Messi by Nnaeb(op): 6:03am On Sep 04, 2015
This lessons are drawn from a young fellow I have watched from 2005 till date move from obscurity to limelight, from potential to product, from amateur to Genius and from a chap to a leader. I love to watch Lionel Messi play, not just because of what he does on the pitch but also off the pitch. He motivates me, he inspires me and his achievements and results challenges me, may be because he is just a year older than I am.

But one might ask, what am I dragging with Lionel Messi? Are we in the same league or profession? Apparently, the answer to that question is no. However, the principles of productivity cuts across all professions and vocations. Messi’s productivity level has paid off so much for his club, no wonder his services doesn’t come cheap either. He is Barcelona’s Most Valuable Player. He is as indispensable as he is relevant to the system. He is practically carrying the club on his shoulder and the club recognizes and appreciates his input as well.

I see all these things and I ask myself, yes, I am not a footballer, but in my profession, am I the Lionel Messi. Am I the Most Valuable Player in my workplace? What is my productivity level? If my company gives me three weeks off, will my absence be felt or will operations go on as if nobody left? Will my team members and head of department keep seeking my opinion and contribution even while I’m supposed to be on vacation?

Whenever you leave a system and your absence was not felt, then you are an excess to requirement. You need to step up your game and stand out in your organization. The corporate world rewards results and indispensability is attainable. It is not just in the world of sports, in the corporate world some persons are quite expensive in the transfer market. Some folks are even untouchable. There system are willing to pay anything to keep them happy. This ‘god’ status is achievable and that is what I am inspired and challenged to attain whenever I see Lionel Messi doing his job or lifting another team trophy or mountain the podium to receive another individual award like he did yesterday.

Five work lessons from Lionel Messi that can help you stand out in your career

Training: when people say you have great potential how do you feel? You feel good right? That can be quite commendable in the beginning, but at the later stages there is nothing right with being a bag of potentials. Potential is everything you can be that you are not. It is everything you have the ability to do that you are not doing. Nigeria has great potential. This means that Nigeria has what it takes to be all it can be that it is not. Potentials don’t pay bills. It does not produce result. What produces result is skill. Nobody is willing to pay for your potential. It is unquantifiable. You can’t put a price tag to it. Strive to convert your potential energy to kinetic energy. Translate your potentials to skill. This can be achieved by constant training. Lionel Messi puts in extra training hours after the normal scheduled training session by the team. I have seen clips where he ties heavy weights to himself and attempts to run with them. That was how the neck breaking speed was attained and maintained. You have the potential to be a great Content Developer, Programmer, OAP, Artist, Fashion Designer, Stylist, Blogger, Actor, Lawyer, etc. it can only be achieved by submitting yourself to learn. Put in extra hours in building your capacity and you will eventually come out refined and ready to deliver outstanding results.

Beat your Own Records: whenever you achieve a milestone, it’s a call for a greater responsibility. It is not the time to relax on your oasis. Most people in in the work place keep basking on the euphoria of a great accomplishment without striving to surpass that. Consequently, time happens and they become irrelevant in a system they were once champions. The surest way to keep competing at the highest level and delivering mind blowing results is by surpassing your own records. I can bet that when Barcelona brought Messi on board, his job description does not include netting over 70 goals in a single season, but that was the target he set for himself. Any player that delivers 25 goals in a season has done his job as a striker, you don’t ask for more from such persons. But Messi knows he has the potential to deliver much more. He kept training until he attained that level but he did not stop there. Every other new season, he strives to beat his own record. This is not something we cannot apply in our work life. Try to exceed company’s expectation and set higher targets for yourself. It is not easy, but it’s achievable. It is the price to pay for indispensability and high level productivity.

Organizational commitment: standing out in your workplace entails working as an entrepreneur, not just an employee. Own the business. See things from the eyes of the chairman, stakeholders, or your employer. This is a different level of organizational commitment that makes you an MVP in the system. Carry the burden of the company on your shoulder. Deploy your skills in helping to cover up for the mistakes of your colleagues or your boss. When the company is swimming in dangerous waters, do you take it personal or are just concern about the security of your job. You are not ready to sink with them. Always looking out for the available escape route? No. own the organization and you will never regret you did.

Stay Humble: understand that all you have and all you can do is made possible by a higher being (God). The moment all the encomiums starts pouring in and the ovation becomes too loud learn to deflect the glory to God. Make it all about him. Even more, make it look like your boss did the job. The moment you start robbing glory of your boss, you will have a hard time thriving in the work environment that will result from that. Never fail to make it all about the team. Highlight the importance and contribution of the people you work with and you will get the best out of them. Praise them in public and don’t make it about you. Remember, God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.

Becoming a valuable player to your organization is not about striving to be like someone else. Strive to be the best you. Don’t be like any other person. Whenever you strive to be like someone else, the best you can be is second best. You have the potential to be the best you and become indispensable in your field. One training a day, keeps mediocrity away

CareerWhy I Love Marketing (selling) Jobs by Nnaeb(op):
I have done a piece on why job seekers hate marketing (selling) jobs on my blog and I got numerous views from my audience on Nairaland. I have met a lot of graduates who will accept any offer but not marketing (selling). You can visit my post on why job seekers hate marketing jobs, if you missed out on that. What I want to share today is different. I love marketing (selling) jobs and I will tell you why.
Yes, I love marketing (selling) jobs, but not all marketing jobs are meant for you. Before you can succeed as a marketer or sales agent, you must choose your poison correctly. I don’t know about you, but I can’t sell everything. I choose my products. I sell the things I love and that is why I succeed in it. Most people fail as a sales agent cos they want to sell everything. You want to sell pension. You want to sell banking services. You want to sell insurance. You want to sell real estate. You want to sell pharmaceutical products. You want to sell FMCGs. You want to sell Telecommunication. You want to sell cars. You want to sell food supplements. You have tried to sell everything. No, it doesn’t work like that for everybody. Look for a product you love, a product you know and a product you have the market for and sell it. You will love it. Below are the reasons why I love marketing as a job.

1. They are readily available: marketing jobs are readily available in the labour market. No company will say no to you if you walk up to them with an offer of helping them improve sales irrespective of your qualification. Bottom line is the only reason why companies are in business in the first place and anybody who can help in improving that is given an opportunity to do so. A company can never have excess of sales persons (marketers). The quickest way to end your job search is to step out tomorrow as a sales dude.

2. More Money: it’s only a marketing job that gives you a stake in the company you are working for. There is no limit to how much you can earn. All the biggest boys you know in the banking industry are bad sales dudes. Same applies to every other sectors.

3. Relationship: marketing jobs provides you with a platform of building a strong contact list. One mistake people make is that they think that marketing has been completed when you close a deal or make a sale. No. Even when somebody did not buy, establish a relationship. You might find the relationship handy someday.

4. Job Security: no matter how bad the economy is looking, business organizations do not retrench their sales dudes. Every other person might go, but not the guys who are pushing the company’s product. So your job security is guaranteed as a good marketer. You can never be an excess to requirement.

5. Flexibility: marketing jobs are very flexible. It affords you ample time to pursue other personal runs and interests. Its lot like the usual 9 to 6 jobs that keep you stereotyped. You can have other business interests, you can also further your education or find enough time for your loved ones.

6. Entrepreneurship: if you don’t like marketing, then this talk of being your own boss is not something you should consider cos you will not succeed. Marketing jobs builds your entrepreneurship abilities and experience. If you can successfully sell another person’s product, then you can perfectly sell yours.

Marketing jobs are the bomb. It all depends on what you are selling and how you are selling it. Most people make marketing look tedious the way they do it. It is not all about activity and being busy. It is not all about hitting a road or an area without a plan and start harassing people from one office to another. No. Marketing is not all about dissipating energy unnecessarily and getting stressed out. I will share my own personal ideas on how to get the best out of marketing here soon. Forget about what you were taught in school for now about selling. There are unconventional ways to make this happen.

Career4 Ways To Make An Impression On Your Boss From Day 1 by Nnaeb(op): 11:22am On Aug 30, 2015
Unless your new job title is the Oni of Ife or Sultan of Sokoto, you report to someone. Get on the person’s good page and make his or her life as easy as possible from day one, and only good things will happen for you.

1. Ask for your performance checklist? Tell your boss you want to make sure you meet expectations. What would success look like to her? Ideally, during your first meeting, you can get in writing the goals on which you'll be evaluated during your first three months, six months, and year. "The more subjective you leave this, the more open your performance is to interpretation.

2. Find out who you replaced. You'll want to do some subtle snooping about your predecessor. Even ladies do that when they enter a new relationship. They will always want to know the chick, they replaced. It’s very important. Ask colleagues about how previous projects worked out- being mindful not to make it about people, which can sound gossipy, but about their job duties. You can ask your boss directly. Say, "Is there anything you'd like to see me do in this job that maybe wasn't done before? Is there something you really liked about the person who had this job before me that I can continue to do?" That way, you're not asking anyone to trash-talk a former employee.

3. Ask for feedback. Within the first 90 days of a job, set aside some time with your new boss to appraise your progress. All ways seek for performance appraisal. That way you can tell when you are derailing from the ground rules.

4. Let your boss shine: This rule is very basic in politics, but it also applies in the work place. Never try to outshine your boss. Even when you do something worth recognition, deflect the praise to your boss. That way your success and growth is guaranteed in the system. The moment your boss is threatened by your antecedents, you definitely will start having problems with your job.

CareerPlease Help! My Boss Is Scared I Will Replace Her by Nnaeb(op): 6:29am On Aug 27, 2015
Dear JobTrends,

I am facing a very difficult time at my workplace. I landed a job fourteen months ago and the first eight months were the honeymoon period. My boss loved everything I did. I walked around feeling on top of the world. I was very innovative.

First I replaced our outdated newsletter publishing platform with a new one that is faster, cheaper and much easier to use. I cleaned out our newsletter subscriber database and used social media tools to double our newsletter subscription list.

Then I started including fun little quizzes and community discussion topics on our site and our newsletter. Our sales increased by fifteen percent. I created a “Get Started” kit for new customers. I’ve never had as much fun on a job as I had in my first eight or nine months here. Then things started to get ugly.

My boss said “You’ve made your point. Give the new ideas a break.” I was completely shocked. I thought my boss who happens to be of an opposite sex, the Head of Marketing, would want to keep moving forward fast. I thought that my new ideas would make my boss happy and they did at first, but then she said “e don do.”

I have a dozen more ideas ready to implement. The salespeople have asked me for an online customer training that they can use when they visit new customers.

Now I don’t know how to prove my value or even how to get through the day. I can’t even answer sales and customer requests intelligently because I can’t say “That’s a great suggestion, and we are working on implementing it.” I can’t say that because it isn’t true!

I haven’t spent a dime on my marketing initiatives. The only expense to the company is my salary which is not that big. I replaced a person who was paid a lot more than I get paid, because I heard it from the salespeople who were very dissatisfied with my predecessor, kemi.

Please I need your advice, what should I do? I’m completely frustrated. Can I get my boss, to let me keep doing my job or do I have to leave my job after less than a year and a half knowing how unfriendly the labor market is?

Thanks,

Christopher

Jobs/VacanciesJob Hunting Or Business Start-up: Same Rules by Nnaeb(op): 5:57am On Aug 27, 2015
There has been several crusades for unemployed persons to embrace entrepreneurship as an alternative to job hunting. I have also been part of the voices advocating that self-employment is the solution to the monumental unemployment rate that is ravaging our nation even though I don’t think it’s for everybody. I do believe that over 60% of our unemployed youths are actually unemployable. I say this based on a first-hand experience because I interact with them every day. I am a HR consultant and I am no longer surprised by the quality of individuals that are harassing the labour market with their unimpressive personae, poor writing skills, horrible communication skill, lack of professionalism and their desperation to start feeding off someone else’s ingenuity and diligence in the name of employment. Predictably, the jobs are not forth coming. What do we do with such persons? Tell them to set up their own business? No.
I think what we should be advising a fraction of these of persons is to embrace education. They should be thinking of enlarging their capacity and working on their productivity level. If not, self-employment is not even an option they can fall back on. Securing a good job and setting up your own business has a lot in common. Therefore, if you have not developed yourself to be of value to any system that will engage your services, then you don’t even have what it takes to set up and run a successful business of your own. As a matter of fact, entrepreneurship places much more demands on your intelligence, creativity, skills and resilience. Before you ditch job hunting for entrepreneurship or advice someone else to do so, make sure you have what it takes to compete and excel in the stormy waters of the Nigerian labour market because same rules plays out in both ventures. Let’s look at the rules.

1.Research/Feasibility: effective job hunting starts with a proper research. You must do a background search of companies you are tripping for and study them. You are not doing yourself any good by applying for a job you know nothing about. Research is important in helping you with your preparation. Failure to research is why most job seekers show up for interviews clueless. That is also the reason young graduates enter the labour market clueless without understanding the trends. Same applies to Business startup. You must carry out your feasibility study. Every intending entrepreneur must carry out a market research to understand the terrain and the cost of his venture. It’s very important if you do not want to enter the market clueless too.

2.Career Plan/Business Plan: he who fails to plan, has planned to fail. That is the popular maxim. A majority of today’s job hunters enter the labour market without a plan. A well-defined career plan is basic in job hunting. You have to define the kind of job you want. Then you outline what the job entails. Then you start pursuing the needed skill set and certifications that will get you better equipped for the job. If you can’t do this, then know ye that entrepreneurship is not for you either. You cannot launch your own business without a comprehensive business plan. You must count the cost, you must do you projections and analyze your strengths, weakness and opportunities. You must define your market and map out a vision for the business.

3.Professional Signatures/Company Signatures: image is everything in business and in personal branding. Before you start job hunting, ask yourself, are my professional signatures right? Starting from your choice of E-mail Address to your Linked In profile, Twitter handle, Facebook wall and your wardrobe. These things must look as professional as it can be. Do away with the youthful exuberances you display on social media and the funky usernames you put up. It does not go down well with prospective employers. For intending entrepreneurs also, you cannot run a successful business without getting your image right. You need a corporate logo, corporate social media presence, a corporate e mail and a corporate account. If you don’t understand this things as a job hunter, then you can’t possibly execute them as an entrepreneur.

4.Marketing/Selling: it is not just enough to be employable. You also need to learn how to sell yourself. You must discover platforms that can put you on the lime light. It is called strategic positioning. It could mean joining a good organization, club, volunteers, church, professional body and forums. The jobs you are looking for are in people’s hands and with the right positioning and networking you might just be talking to your next employer. Same applies to running a successful business. You must put into consideration the choice of location. You must learn how to build strategic business relationships and improve on your selling skills.

I can go on and on because both path have a lot in common. So failure on the other side does not automatically translate to success on the other side. Hope you understand what I mean.

In a nutshell, I need you to understand that before you start considering self-employment as an option, you must ensure you have what it takes to succeed in a paid employment. You must possess qualities that can drive other persons business. You must be productive and solution driven. You must be proactive, creative, diligent, skillful, professional, intelligent and consistent.
If you are still job hunting and you know of a truth that you have not yet consolidated on this qualities, you don’t need to start your own business because it will fail. That terrain is much more demanding and competitive. All you need is a little bit of personal development and learning. Relax and build your capacity. When you are done doing that, you can now look at the world in the face and choose your poison

Embrace education.

Jobs/VacanciesDear Job Seeker, Is Your Computer Literacy Enough? by Nnaeb(op): 5:53am On Aug 25, 2015
I hear people often say, ‘I am computer literate’ and I am wondering what they meant by that. The statement does not answer any question. For God sake, there are over a hundred thing you can do with a computer, so telling me that you are computer literate is very ambiguous. Bypass the computer literacy cliché and just tell me what exactly it is you can do with the computer.

Almost every CV on my table has that cliché ‘Computer Literate with Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications’ or Proficient with Word, Excel, Power Point and Internet Appreciation and I am like , and so? Is that all?

I am not in anyway disputing the importance of those applications in the day to day operations of the workplace. However, in today’s competitive and ever demanding workplace, your ability to use Word Applications, Power Point and Excel sheet does not spell you are computer literate. Computer literacy has gone beyond that.

Time has passed, when Proficiency in Microsoft Office and your use of internet gives you an added advantage in the labor market. For my friends that have jobs already, if you must remain relevant and indispensable to the system you are working with, then you must take your computer literacy level from just your ability to type on word and surfing the internet. As a matter of fact, this computer skills are what your little niece in elementary school can boast of.

I was on an interview panel yesterday, and I met a graduate of Computer Science from Yabatech who is supposed to be ‘computer literate’. And I asked him, does it mean you went to higher institution to learn how to browse and use the Microsoft office application (that I am not sure he can even use)? He defended himself by telling me that it was only theory that they were thought in school (I knew he was lying), but I asked, so if that was what you were taught in school, which one did you teach yourself? You know the answer now. He was looking at me with that ‘pity me’ gesture.

My advice to you as a job seeker is to step up your game. If you must secure your dream job then you must prepare for it. Learn an advanced computer skill that is relevant in your desired field. Everybody is proficient in Microsoft application, which alone cannot improve your chances.

It is very necessary to pursue a professional certification in a chosen computer application because at the end of the day, that might be the certificate and skill that will get you a good job and not your degree certificate. A lot of persons are feeding and excelling on just a computer skill they learnt and not their degree. It is very important. Below are some of the necessary computer skill you can add to your proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications.

Career''Your Job Can Make You Impotent'' by Nnaeb(op): 5:43am On Aug 25, 2015
My experiences, acquired over the last three decades in the management of infertility within and outside the country, coupled with those obtained since the establishment of the first Modern Mayr Medicine Health Clinic in Lagos, have rekindled my interest in an article we published in the Reproductive Health magazine about six years ago.

It dwelt on reproductive occupational health hazards. The article was also published in an academic journal, the African Journal of Reproductive Medicine. One has realised that virtually most of our patients presenting with infertility who come from the oil-producing regions have myriads of toxins and heavy metal overload, such that even the best of IVFs with good embryos do not stand a good chance of positive result, unless such patients undergo a thorough Mayr therapy detoxification process.

The success that has been recorded in the management of such cases of infertility, prostate ailments and liver disease has necessitated a revisit of this subject, with special focus on the environmental hazards associated with exposure to toxins peculiar to the oil and gas sector. Attention is also given to the prevention of these health hazards, and the management of established cases, including fatal ones.

Over the last hundred years, oil and gas have emerged as two of the most sought-after energy sources in the world. Petroleum products such as gasoline, propane, kerosene, heating oil, and asphalt, as well as many plastics, paints, pesticides, solvents, and cosmetics are used on a daily basis by the majority of the population. Even some clothes and medicines are made from oil!

The development of our petrochemical industry has brought us great wealth as a nation. Not only has the country benefited economically in increased wealth, but many workers are also reaping the rewards as high salary earners.

But then, crude oil is toxic and has many harmful effects on our health and the environment. It emits many toxins in all stages of its extraction and refinement, starting with the methods used to explore the environment and dig for it, transport it, purify it into various products, as well as the ways in which it is consumed by end-users.

Numerous chemicals are used in various processes in the oil and gas sector, the numbers and complexity of which have greatly increased over the past decades. Many of these chemicals are toxic and have been linked to many illnesses.

For example, ethylene glycol monobutyl ether (also known as 2-Butoxyethanol or 2-BE) which is found in foaming agents and is used during hydraulic fracturing operations, is deadly when inhaled and may lead to blood disorders if a person is exposed to it. This chemical is also linked to liver cancer and can cause degeneration of the testes, among other reproductive problems.

Another chemical, called 2-(2-Ethoxyethoxy)ethanol is found in a number of products used in the oil and gas industry, including biocides, hydraulic fracturing fluids and shale stabilisers. It is a suspected carcinogen, known to cause deformities and organ malformations in newborns. It can also negatively affect male fertility.

Ethoxylated nonylphenol is used in surfactants and additives to increase viscosity of the oil. This chemical is an endocrine disruptor that mimics oestrogen and mediates hormonal imbalance, thereby negatively impacting male development and reproductive ability. It impedes brain development and also causes atrophy of the thymus (a critical component of the immune system).

Varied pollutants are released during the normal processes going on in the petroleum industry, many of which pose potential and serious health hazards. Despite precautions, accidents do occur periodically in the course of production, refining and distribution of petroleum products. These may result from accidental discharges attributed to equipment failure, malfunctioning and deterioration occasioned by corrosion, ageing of pipelines, and deliberate or willful acts of vandalisation.

Whether exploration takes place onshore or offshore, it generates wastes that include atmospheric emissions, spillage of drill cuttings, drilling fluids, deck drainage, well treatment fluids, sanitary and domestic wastes, as well as accidental oil spills.

Atmospheric emissions from rigs consist mainly of exhausts from diesel engines supplying power to meet drilling and hoisting electricity requirements of rigs. These emissions sometimes contain small amounts of sulphur dioxide (dependent upon fuel sulphur content) and exhaust smoke (heavy hydrocarbons). An unexpected over-pressure formation encountered during drilling may result in a blowout or gas discharge.

Apart from the chemicals and activities of processing oil, oil itself is toxic. Breathing fumes or swallowing food or liquids contaminated by oil and gas causes reproductive health problems such as irregular menstrual cycles, miscarriages, stillbirths, and birth defects. These problems may have early warning signs such as abdominal pain or irregular bleeding.

Regular contact with oil and gas has also been linked to increased risk of developing certain cancers.

Refineries are factories where oil is made into products such as gasoline, diesel and heating fuels, asphalt, lubricating oils, and plastics. All these products are toxic when one gets regular and prolonged contact with them. For workers in oil refineries, this is difficult to avoid. The health of such workers is therefore at great risk. They have a high risk of contacting cancer of the lips, stomach, liver, pancreas, connective tissue, prostate, eye, brain, and blood.
