While gearing towards the end of the Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) 2020 edition, some housemates’ personal traits have earned them well-deserved awards.

Earlier this week, the organisers of BBNaija threw it to the viewers to select each award that suits every housemate if they were available and the audience sure had their say.

Laycon
Unarguably the housemate with the largest fan base, Laycon won many hearts with his lyrical prowess and intelligence, right from the second day the show kicked off. He has been up for the most Intelligent Housemate Award and the Most Disciplined Housemate Award.

The 26-year-old is so far the only housemate who has so far not received any strike or warning.

Nengi
The former beauty queen who became the first and last Head of House in the “Lockdown” edition tops three charts: Most Stylish, Most Composed, and Most Humble Housemate Awards. It is safe to say that Nengi sure deserves the award for most composed, as she has always been mindful of her doings in the house and has managed to stay out of dramas.

Dorathy
Fans of the busty housemate have also chosen her for the Most Fashionable, Best Makeup, and the Funniest Housemate Awards.

Neo
Viewers have awarded him the Most Talkative, Most Stylish Housemate, and the Dancer Award. It is safe to say that Neo’s awards are well deserved with his provision of dressing tips, dance moves, and of course long chat with Biggy.

Neo, during his diary session with Biggie, opened up that he feels that he talks too much each time he is asked if he has other things to discuss in the diary room...

Health / Snail Slime And Milk As Cure For Stroke by nnix: 6:29pm On Sep 09, 2020
A mixture of snail slime and evaporated milk is an instant cure for stroke, claims a Facebook post shared in Nigeria.
“This works hundred percent,” it reads. “Do this mixture regularly for instant results for patients suffering from stroke.” The post has been shared more than 5,000 times.

A stroke occurs when brain cells are suddenly deprived of oxygen and die. This can happen when blockage or rupture of an artery stops blood flow to the brain.

The risk factors for stroke include hypertension, elevated lipids, diabetes and other lifestyle factors such as smoking, low levels of physical activity, an unhealthy diet and abdominal obesity. Stroke can lead to death and survivors may experience loss of vision, speech, paralysis and dementia.

But can a simple mixture of snail slime and evaporated milk cure the symptoms of stroke?

Claim ‘distracts from real therapy’
The claimed cure has been posted on several websites. But Africa Check has found no evidence in scientific literature that it is effective.

Yakub Nyandaiti, a professor of neurology at the college of medical sciences at Nigeria’s University of Maiduguri, told us there was no basis for the claim.

“There is no scientific evidence to the claim,” he said.

“I have not read about the mixture. I am not even aware that such a mixture exists as a treatment for stroke. I would not advise any stroke patient to try the mixture. My simple advice to stroke patients is to visit a neurologist.”

Njideka Okubadejo, a professor of neurology at the faculty of clinical sciences at the University of Lagos, said the claim may actually harm victims of stroke.

“When a person suffers a stroke we have a clear strategy we put in place as treatment,” she said.

“It includes three things: physical therapy, medication and lifestyle modification. This strategy is the same all over the world. Advising stroke patients to combine snail water and milk distracts them from focusing on the things that can be beneficial to their health.”

If you or someone you know suffers a stroke, consult a doctor. The condition is serious and life-threatening, and will not be cured by a mixture of snail slime and evaporated milk.

However, speaking with the show organisers, the 26-year-old actress while explaining how she bonded so fast with Kiddwaya, said the billionaire’s son has a role to play in the events that led to her exit.

“What drew me to Kiddwaya was we have some similarities. We are both carefree, we are both crazy and kind of complete babies too and our conversations flowed naturally”, Erica said.

“I do not think Kiddwaya feels the same way about me but I do not care about that. I think Kiddwaya played a role in my getting strikes. I think it is still my responsibility and I feel I also played a role in him getting strikes”.

While speaking on her beef towards Laycon, Erica claimed she was infuriated by Laycon’s claim that she tried to kiss him when she was drunk.

She also tendered apologies to Prince, Laycon and Dorathy.

Furthermore, the disqualified housemate says the greatest lesson she has learnt is to learn to be happy alone regardless of any situation.

“The lesson I have learnt is I should be happy with being alone. I noticed that I wasn’t fine with being alone but now I know that I have to be fine with being on my own”.

Politics / Igbo Presidency: Ohanaeze Chieftains Urged To Shun Secession Threats by nnix: 5:45pm On Sep 08, 2020
Chieftains of Ohanaeze Ndigbo have been cautioned against use of threat in wooing other geopolitical zones in Nigeria towards their quest for a president from the Igbo extraction.

A legal practitioner, Prince Uche Okeke gave the advice on Tuesday in Nkpor, Idemili North Local government Area of Anambra state following secession threat made by certain chieftains of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and other stakeholders in the region.

He said Ndigbo should rather employ dialogue, stressing that the threat of secession was capable of scuttling the Igbo project.

He said, “In as much as I’m strongly advocating that a person from Igbo extraction should become president come 2023, but the threat that Ndigbo will break away if not elected president already coming out from notable Igbo stakeholders could boomerang and endanger the Igbo agenda.

“Ohanaeze chieftains or anybody who made statements on secession should employ mechanisms of dialogue to make other zones and all political parties to adopt an Igbo person as a presidential candidate.”

The British trained lawyer further listed the merits of zoning to include cost reduction, opportunity to harness human resources from different zones as well as promotion of development at different parts of the country.

“Zoning may not be written in the constitution but there is what is called convention- when something is practiced over the years, it could be accepted as a law", he said.

Politics / No Return To Petrol, Power Subsidy, Says Federal Govt by nnix: 5:01pm On Sep 08, 2020
Government on Monday stamped a note of finality on the removal of subsidy on petrol.

It said the adjustment of tariff on electricity is driven by the need to guarantee efficiency in power supply.

The price of petrol went up from N138.63 to between N162 and N164 per litre last week after the September price modulation.

Power Distribution Companies (DisCos) also adjusted the tariffs.

Nigerians have been lamenting the payment of high rates in the two sectors which are central to their lives.

President Muhammadu Buhari and three ministers at separate fora rose in defence of the decision to end the subsidy regime.

The President spoke through Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the retreat for ministers. Three ministers – Lai Mohammed (Information), Timipre Sylva (Petroleum State) and Saleh Mohammed (Power) – spoke at a news conference.

The government also listed some of the measures put in place to prevent Nigerians from being cheated and how to ameliorate the harsh effects of the increased rates.

Buhari said having lost 60 per cent of revenue due to the effects of Coronavirus Pandemic, the government had no alternative than to do away with petrol subsidy which it could no longer afford.

The minister of Information puts the amount expanded on petrol subsidy in 13 years at N10.41 trillion.

Erica who was infuriated by Laycon’s claims that she tried to kiss him, heavily threw one shade or the other at him.

However, one of the major events that led to her disqualification was that of the 7th Saturday night party.

Erica who was intoxicated by alcohol confronted Laycon, threatening to make him suffer and body shaming him.

“You are a fool. You are lying that I tried to kiss you. You can prove that I tried to kiss you?

“Laycon was my friend but now he is shit. He was using me to trend. I’m not scared of anyone in this house. Laycon is an idiot. Why will you lie about me?

Food / Cultural Cuisine Is Our Heritage by nnix: 2:45pm On Sep 02, 2019
This is a user submitted post
.......................................

Cultural cuisine is considered to be ethnic food or a specific set of traditional cooking practice regarded to be part of the culture of a people. Beyond the preparation of the food, the taste is always amazing in a native way and with uniqueness that can only be cooked by an indigene of that tribe.

Nigerian food culture differs from one tribe to another, and these cuisines involve food preparation in particular styles. Traditional dishes are passed down from generation to generation.

There are over 300 tribes in Nigeria, among which the major three tribes are Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa. These three, form the major languages which are the foundation upon which other tribes are connected indirectly by migration of fore-fathers or splitting of two states. These are some of the reasons most tribe share the same cultural cuisine.

Even though cultural cuisine like Edi-ka-ikong has been adopted by other tribes, it is known to be owned by the Efik people and it’s environ. The same way attire portrays where a person comes from, so is cultural cuisine especially during special events and festivals such as: traditional marriage, carnivals, burial, festivals and other forms of cultural gathering.

For example during the traditional marriage of an Akwa-Ibomite, the displayed traditional food enables guests to have a taste of what their local food is like. A wide array of all their delicacies will be displayed for the in-laws to see and have a taste, thereby...

Technology Market / The Vices And Benefits Of Social Media by nnix: 6:12pm On Aug 01, 2019
This is a user submitted post on the vices of social media
--------------------

Since the emergence of digital marketing through the Internet, traditional forms of buying are gradually dying off as a lot of people now place orders for what they want online. Home delivery service often offered additionally by most online malls also makes it easier for consumers to buy from the comfort of their homes.

An average Nigerian now sees the need to venture into digital business (online marketing) either as a direct sales person or as an agent or affiliate in displaying goods and services especially when such a person has built a good network of visitors, fans or members on social media platform. On the other hand, traditional marketing involves personal selling, whereby...

Religion / How Your Thoughts Make Or Mar You by nnix: 6:02pm On Aug 01, 2019
This is a user submitted post:
--------------------

Thinking has no limitations as to how far you can go but the only limiting factor is you on how far you would want to allow your thoughts to go. The way you think and feel about yourself, your belief and expectation determines everything that happens to you because when you change the quality of your thinking you change the way your life is traveling.

Your thinking could just be the barrier between you and your much needed breakthrough. In reality, there may not be an actual external enemy. Everyone is born with an ability to think things through before setting out on what to do and how to go about it.

One of the best ways to challenge your thinking in life is to prepare for disappointment in advance. Disappointment comes in spite of your best effort put together to avoid it, because it is inevitable and unavoidable as it is said that, “To everything there is a season,” for after sunshine comes rainfall as that occurs in the life of a every man. Romance / Why Relationships Fail – 6 Reasons by nnix: 6:42pm On Jul 31, 2019
This is a user submitted post about the reason relationships fail

--------------------
There can be different types of relationships between two or more people. Some common examples include parent-child relationship, employer-staff relationship, pastor-church member relationship, husband-wife relationship and the commonest of all; relationship between lovers.

Irrespective of the type of relationship in question mutual understanding, love, care and respect are key ingredients in the smooth running of the relationship.

In this article, our focus shall be mainly on relationships between lovers, although the principles outlined below apply to other types of relationship as well.

What keeps a relationship alive is dedication and commitment on the part of both partners. Loyalty and trust also go a long way.

Going into a relationship is often quite easy and sometimes happens at first sight. For example, when you meet someone, you get to know each other better and over time, it is possible you fall in love with the person. But oftentimes, little problems start showing up and if not handled carefully, they may lead to failure in the relationship. Although, we all yearn to achieve that thing called “FOREVER” with our partner, the first step to achieving that is by knowing the key reasons most relationships fail.

Some of the top reasons that can turn your relationship into another breakup story

Lack Of Communication: This is the main reason most relationships fail these days. Communication doesn’t just mean that you are talking to your partner, it is more about not being honest with what you say or your intentions. Without communication both partners will not be able to know each other well enough, it will also make them not know their way about in the relationship.
Lack Of Trust: When the two partners do not have trust in themselves that also makes the relationships fail. This may result from a bad experience suffered in a past relationship thereby making the one of the partners lose faith in members of opposite sex. For example...

Celebrities / 4 Things You Must Know About Body Language by nnix: 6:06pm On Jul 31, 2019
This is a user submitted post about body language comunication:

---------------------
Body language is a type of non-verbal communication in which physical body movement is interpreted meaningfully as opposed to the use of words.

Even though body language exists in both animals and humans, humans make the most of it through various approaches and applications depending on the situation at hand and the intended meaning.

Body language has no standard grammar system and must be interpreted broadly. This means that there’s no absolute meaning corresponding with certain bodily movements. So it is not a standard language (like sign language) and is simply termed as a “language” owing to popular culture.

Methods of body language communication includes the following:

Facial expression
Body posture
Gesture
Body contact
FACIAL EXPRESSION
Facial expression is the easiest way of telling if an individual is sad, confused, surprised, angry or fatigued. These expression on a persons face may tell people otherwise even when the body language is depicting something else. It is also a powerful body language which determines if we trust and believe what an individual is saying or not.

Facial expression involves the eyes which is often referred to as the “Window to the soul.”
Eye movement is a natural and important part of communication process.
When evaluating eye movement one must pay attention to the following eye signals:

(a.) Eye gaze – A direct look into a person’s eyes, may likely indicate they’re interested and paying attention to you while on the other hand, breaking eye contact frequently or looking away might indicate a person is distracted, uncomfortable, shy or trying to conceal their feelings...

Romance / The Color Of True Friendship by nnix: 5:57pm On Jul 31, 2019
This is a user submitted post on friendships and relationships:

--------------

Friendship is a mutual affair or relationship between people, who are there for one another through the challenges of life. Friendship is a platonic relationship which is rationally centered and includes genuine concern for one another. Friendship is not in checking on someone only when you are bored, rather it is when you love them genuinely and want them happy even if it means sacrificing something in doing that.

Friendship gets misinterpreted by most people who often cannot tell the difference between friendship and relationship for instance when a lady shares most of her worries and concerns with a male friend in seeking for advice, overtime such a man may begin to interpret the closeness to meaning that she wants to have a love affair with him.

True friendship does exist, yes ! Only that it varies from place to place with different characteristics. some of these characteristics include: showing sympathy, loyalty to each other, generosity, mutual understanding and compassion. True friends are honest with you at all times, they never try to deceive you or make themselves seem stronger than you are. True friendship is loving someone so much that ...

Here is a user submitted post on body health and wellness:

--------------------
Wellness is the ultimate state of a person’s well-being that promotes proper care of the body for optimal health and functioning of the overall system.

The human body is like an engine that requires servicing and maintenance from time to time or else the machine will stop functioning or it will begin to malfunction.

Health is wealth but a lot of people are ignorant on certain measures that should be taken in order to avert certain body deterioration and harm. The pursuit of good health, wellness and better well being not only comes from living on a healthy balanced diet but also on the ability to live a lifestyle that properly balances our mind, body and spirit.

Most of the food items we often heavily consume do not give the required body nutrients. This could be as a result of our ignorance at how junky those foods are or in our assertion those proper food items are “Expensive”. Unfortunately, this style of eating unwholesome and unhealthy food can continue indefinitely until such a person falls ill from the negative effect of such bad foods. Nutritional foods that help to improve wellness can be found in vegetables, fruits, and whole grains, fat-free or low fat products.

However, there are three harmful agents of body destruction that should be avoided if possible or minimized at least. These are:

1. Salt
2. Sugar
3. Fat and oil

Salt – Excessive intake of Salt affects your body, brain, heart and kidney, because much consumption makes the body hold on to water leading to strain on the heart that causes high blood pressure.

Valentine, the season of love is here again!

Valentine’s day, which comes up on February 14th every year, is a special day of love that should be spent with your spouse and yes, wonderfully too.

It is a period we need to shower our loved ones with love and care, embracing memorable moments that will last forever.

Planning a wonderful line up of activities is surely one good thing to do this valentine.

Here are six ways of being romantic this valentine season, these are things you can do to keep this season wonderfully exciting and definitely memorable:

1. Seeing a movie.
This is definitely a good choice of spending great (quality) time with your spouse. Interesting movies are coming out this month, you and your loved ones can decide to watch them at home or go to a cinema.

Some great movies to see (watch) together with your family include:

‘What men want’
‘Serenity’
‘Glass’
‘The upside’
‘Escape room’
‘Replicas’
‘The kids who would be kind’
‘Isn’t it romantic?’

It would be fun having a pack of popcorn to share as you pop up the viewing fun.

2. Going to a beautiful swimming pool or beach:
This is actually amusing. It is not only about having a good time with your spouse but the activity is also relaxing, recreational and fun. Swimming is a form of relaxation for you and your family, you could have a hydrotherapy or massage which are mostly done in hotels with such explicit services.

3. Visiting a tourist or resort centre:
Traveling with your spouse creates romantic...

Phones / Android Super-smart Devices - The Hidden Genius You Should Meet by nnix: 9:05pm On Feb 06, 2019

---------------
When it comes to smartphones, Android phones have become very popular with Nigerians.
This is not surprising because anyone familiar with Android devices will quickly notice how user friendly and easily customizable Android smartphones are.

Big screen, touch-pad, sharp and bright rear and front cameras with high megapixel and flash light are some of the qualities that have endeared these smart devices to their users.

Also, long battery life, super fast charging and access to several thousands of paid and free apps available at Google Play store has made the Android operating system and its various types of smart devices truly a modern marvel.

Technologies utilizing the Android instruction set (Operating System, OS) have advanced so much that you can even speak to your SmartTV these days, commanding it through voice recognition and voice control to change channels or to adjust speaker volume.
I am sure you have already heard of autonomous (self-driving) cars currently making waves in the tech world.

This is just the beginning of so many advancements possible with the Android OS and devices that are designed to use it or run on that platform.

Little wonder the logo or symbol for ‘Android’ from the very onset of its introduction has always depicted a small Green Robot.
Yes, a robot. That is what all Android devices are meant to be.

And now, with the introduction of AI (Artificial Intelligence) technology to the Android world along with its various types of smart devices and fields of application, things are about to get a lot more robotic… even humans. Ever heard of Humanoids?
Look up the story of SOPHIA the AI Robot with human intelligence and interestingly, emotions, on the internet.

How about artificial reality or Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR), have you heard about these as well?

Augmented reality is an interactive experience of a real-world environment where the objects that reside in the real-world are “augmented” by computer-generated perceptual information often involving visual, haptic (vibrations), auditory (sounds), and several others methods to make the event look ‘real’ to humans.

On its own part, Virtual Reality involves computer-generated simulation of a three-dimensional environment that can be interacted with by a user or player in a way that is seems real or physically present, using special electronic equipment, such as a helmet with a display screen, special VR goggles or gloves fitted with sensors.

While these two technologies (AR and VR) may seem far fetched and strange to a good number of Android smartphone users, you may already be using such technologies on your phone on a daily basis without realizing it.

A good example of such unknown use is with the use of Google Maps or Google Earth apps both of which employ an overlay of user generated location information, remote GPS coordinates, measurements from your phones Accelerometer, Compass, Gyroscope and GPS sensors and so many other dynamically changing parameters superimposed over ordinary (regular) map images.

This has the result of bringing the passive (paper-like) maps to live and from your Google Maps or Google Earth app interface, you can tell which direction you are facing (North, South West, East), you can tell your distance to where you are going and you can even get complete computer voice aided navigation instructions and arrows towards your desired...

Romance / How To Say, “i’m Sorry” To Your Partner by nnix: 8:35pm On Feb 06, 2019
This is a user submitted post:

-------------------
“Love means never having to say you’re sorry” is one of the most insidious aphorisms ever to come from a cheesy romantic movie. If anything, love—especially the kind that includes living with someone—gives you extra incentive to apologize. Yes, saying sorry can be hard, but it’s way better than suffering your partner’s icy stares from across the kitchen table for three days.

Most of us aren’t very good at apologizing, especially after a fight. Of course, it would be great if you sidestepped an argument altogether by, say, waiting to talk until you’re more calm. Or until you’ve eaten. Or remembering that it’s never you versus your partner, it’s you and your partner versus a problem. No matter how good you get at communicating maturely, disagreements will happen. Here’s how to say sorry afterward:

Should you apologize? In a word: yes. Apologizing isn’t always about being wrong, sometimes it’s about the way you said or did something, or how someone else was affected by what you said or did. Even if you feel that you were and still are right that you guys went to her parents’ for Christmas last year (and the year before), you can still apologize after your blow-out fight for how it went down. You also don’t need to hold on to sorrys like you only get 140 in your entire life. The key is to ....
